Yes, minimalist is very trendy, and no, it's not for everyone. Perhaps in response to the excessive lives many modern humans live, minimalism has become a sort of virtue.It almost feels like a competition sometimes. Who can survive with the fewest pairs of pants?
I don't think that sort of approach to minimalism makes sense, but I do think the philosophy can be helpful when applied to our closets. First off, having a minimalist clothing collection takes up less space, both physically and mentally.
You need less room in the closet, and you don't have as many options to choose from when you're getting dressed. Since most people don't wear most of the clothes they own, they have less real options than they think. Why not just get rid of those items?
Second, if you build a minimal and interchangeable wardrobe, putting together a cohesive outfit becomes a very easy task. When every top goes with every bottom, getting dressed is easy.
So it's not about owning the fewest possible garments. It's about trimming the fat from your wardrobe and being intentional about what you own. But many pairs of pants do you actually need? 10? 5? 2? I think most men can get away with owning just 5-8 pairs of pants, and in this video we'll take a look at this minimalist collection.

I have been simplifying my wardrobe for a while now and this is exactly what I have done...I gave away so many shirts to a friend that I bought and never wore...tons of space in my closet now...I have 2 pairs of jeans now, not 10 like I used to have....it makes getting dressed so easy...this video is great...can't wait to watch more of them.

One can not have enough grey pants, especially flannel. Didn't know until have a pair and now my go to if can't decide on kaki, brown, or navy.

Tthis is what I have for my minimal pant collection,
1. Black skinny jeans (this are my everyday choice, and most days I am wearing them
2. Dark-wash slim jeans (could have gone for a ligther wash, but I just prefer to wear dark bottoms in general)
3. Wool grey trousers (for dressing a bit smarter, even though I don't really need it)
4. Black chino shorts
It suits me just fine. Bear in my mind that I am 22-year old who works in a very casual enviroment, though.

The first thing to stay minimal in pants collection is to stay basics for the shoes, cz sometimes, my only reason for buying certain pants, is to matching with my shoes collection.
My minimalist pants collection would be:
1. Cream chino
2. Olive chino
3. Black jeans
4. Dark washed jeans
5. Charcoal trouser
6. Tartan relax pants
Shoes
1. Brown laced up boots
2. White vans slip on
3. Black chelsea boots

Really helpful video! I have the khaki chinos, navy chinos, dark jeans and light jeans but only black dress pants from my stupid youth when I bought black everything, including a black suit (of course...). Will probably pick up some grey dress pants this summer so I have them ready for fall.
What's wrong with black suits? Everyone tells me that's what I should buy for my graduation because it's the most versatile. I'm swedish btw :D

If you’re graduating from Swedish version of secondary school (gymnasiet) the tradition is to wear black. You can wear that suit on weddings and funerals too, when having nice accessories is inappropriate (you don’t want to steal attention from the wedding couple and you want to look subdued during a time of mourning).
If you also want to wear your suit with accessories and when you’re not at a formal event then don’t go with black. Black can’t be color coordinated and thus accessories look odd. If you’re at a New Year’s or birthday party and want some colorful, fun accessories with your suit the black one looks way off.
A darker navy suit or a charcoal suit can both be worn to graduations, weddings, and funerals too in addition to more casual events where you want to experiment with some color. They are way more versatile. People are telling you to buy black simply because that’s tradition. I listened to tyat advice too when I was a young Swede and I regret it.

I live in Hawaii and if minimalism was a competition, I see a guy in downtown with just shorts, a t shirt and a blanket - he might win. Oddly enough, he has some cash to buy beer every so often. He does crazy shadow boxing in the windows of the neighborhood businesses in the evening.

I wanted to ask about fit, specifically in the ankle openings. I've been sent several pants (from stitch fix) with 7.5" ankle openings (32" waist). The PM dark jeans linked above mentioned a 7.xx" ankle opening, which to my eyes I don't think I've seen anything like that on you. What is the typical ankle opening width you find on your jeans and chinos and how do you feel about the range of variations in what you wear and what you encounter?
I wear the PM skinny stretch jeans, which have a narrower opening (probably 6.5). I usually go with less than 7" opening.

I’m 5’ 4”. Any idea who sells joggers, specifically chino joggers, with shorter lengths? I don’t want to have to spend the money to get them altered. Preferably with functional button and zippers. Oh and not looking to spend a lot of money on them either. H&M prices would be ideal. Thanks!
You mean joggers, as in chinos with cuffed ankles?
The Modest Man Basically Chinos or Khakis with an elastic band at the ankle. I’ve bought some from H&M and recently some from Amazon Essentials, Just too long for my taste.
I don’t know of any brand that sells that kind of jogger in shorter lengths. Too bad!
