Elizabethan Priest Hunters, Priest Holes and the Ghosts of Athelhampton House

- Athelhampton House is said to be one the most haunted places in all of Dorset.
The Martyn family were the lords of Athelhampton house for almost 250 Years. The Martyns were devout Catholics and had Athelhampton House altered in order to hide priests during the time England was under Protestant rule during Elizabeth I and James I. Small secret recesses were placed in the house, and many other houses of wealthy Catholic families, and were called Priestholes.
It is said a man wearing a black priest's robe haunts the halls of Athelhampton House and maybe it was it was a priest that was hidden in one of the priestholes of the house long ago.

Evelyn Edwards is a successful American actress and photographer. She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, and the Ridley Scott Associates film Loom.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Music degree from UCLA and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love for castles and photography together.

I enjoy a good ghost story. Hate this part of our history, sad for the priests that were persecuted.
Elizabeth wasn't all good that's for sure. Humans have such a hard time being okay with someone else not believing the same thing they do.

In justice to Elizabeth Pius V was to blame for what happened to the English Catholic population whydid he have to excommunicate her and tell Catholic to act against her and overthrow her common Elizabeth had to defend herself from this sector of her people t hey. forced her to act harshly and ruthlessly against the Catholic population and this is why Catholics had no civil rights for almost three hundred years until they were restored in 1829

Why would a priest become a ghost? If God exists (and I believe he does), why would he leave a priest’s soul to wander aimlessly in a house? If we have souls, then there must be a God and if God would leave a priest’s soul out of heaven, why should anyone serve that god?
