    I enjoyed this very much. I hope you continue to make more videos of house tours. This place is stunning. And your presentation was perfect. I like the pacing and the sound of your voice is very soothing.

    They have done such a wonderful job on the restoration of these rooms. The Elizabethan kitchen in particular is amazing (though personally I'd have kept the aga!). A really great video, you have a real talent for telling the history in such an engaging way and so thoroughly researched.

    Thankyou. It's so lovely to visit these places that are so far away. (I'm in New Zealand).I love the birdsong - it really enhances the experience.

    In October half term (28th Oct- 1st Nov) there is also a living history week. You can visit and many tudors will be wondering the manor who you can ask questions to as well as meeting the Martyn family and others who have connections to them. :)

    I played billiards with the Ghost Ape - he’s actually quite laid back and amiable.

    This house featured as the home in the 2009 ghost story movie From Time to Time with Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonnerville (both from Downton Abbey). I think many scenes were filmed inside and outside. The movie was written by Julian Fellowes (who wrote Dowmton Abbey). It’s on TH-cam to view.

      @@thehistory_student I just checked it (as I said it’s on TH-cam as well) and it most certainly is. Recognise the doorway and that little tower bit to the left that joined the wings. Good movie.

    In the King's room, you can see the drag marks from the secret door on the floor to the left of the fireplace. It has made semi-circle shapped marks into the floor.

    I think about how many wonderful Trees had to felled to build these nohemouth houses. No wonder most are left to ruin in this day in time. I can't imagine heating these Enormous rooms ,upkeep etc .
    I'll bet it is Haunted.

    Can anyone explain to me why the exteriors of these histoeic homes are left covered in filth? It seems to me that they would look polished, pristine, claen and sharp. Is it preference or would it be harmful to the stone? This is such a beautiful home. I say clean it up and keep it clean and gorgeous!

    • @mikee8605
      @mikee8605 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Yes, unfortunately the more you clean exterior masonry, the faster it degrades and the less hardy it becomes. Ironically, in many cases, the patina that these houses develop actually helps to protect them from the elements and can even aid in insulation.

    It won't be good for the oak panelling to have that cast iron radiator near it in the King's Room.
