    Nice trip so far, love seeing the dogs work. One time I was in the mountains hunting and had a snow storm move in on us. Before we knew it, we couldn't see our tracks etc...this was before the GPS era. Probably the most scared I've been to date thinking we were lost.

      Yeah, mountains can create crazy weather. Gotta be prepared. 👍

    Whoa Eric. Another vid after #2 ? This is a bonus. You are right with the scenting conditions. Strange. Only thing I noticed is the wind (hitting the grasses) where the previous vids did not show.
    Just guessing here. Humidity/dew point ?

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there are many factors that go into scenting conditions. It is a bit mysterious.

    This video came out while I was still down there. First day back home, and I'm already missing it down there.
    Great video as always.

    Live in South Louisiana. No upland bird hunting here. Looks like the finest type of hunting however. Lots of walking/hiking. Working dogs. Explosive flushes. Etc. I envy guys who have upland birds.

    I love your videos! Taking a trip out to Idaho for some chucker, and any input would be appreciated. Upland hunted, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa pretty heavy, my whole life, but never chucker. Looking for some general direction as far as what areas to hit thinking about staying in the Riggins area and setting up a base camp and heading out from there.

    Man Arizona was good too you except the rain part great dog work as always and the only time I have hunted the same spot over is in South Dakota and that just because trying to find spots that don’t have a lot of other hunters or not finding birds

    Great video sir, always great footage from a man we can all tell truly loves the challenge. I hunt grouse in the up and bobs on public land in Fl. The bobs are far between and hard to find but nothing beats it. What’s your take on running a bell on the dog hunting bobs. Grouse don’t mind it at all but I wonder if it’s spooking the quail. Keep it up brother.

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t really run a bell except a couple times when we were in wolf and bear country so I don’t think I could say if it has an effect on the birds. However, I feel in general, the sneakier you and the dogs can be, the better.

    Man what a difference a year makes. Last year was so bad for Mearns, clearly I was there the wrong year! Are you ever planning a dedicated trip for Mountain or California quail?

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not dedicated but I hunt them occasionally on my Chukar trip in January. Valley quail that is.

  • @richc4231

    Great advice for safety concerns hunting alone (I do it all the time!) What do you think made the scenting conditions so much better? Thanks for sharing another great video.

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume it was weather related. The next day we had a change with the rain so maybe barometric pressure, or ? I’m no scientist, I just know it’s amazing how much the scenting can change in the blink of an eye.

    Great video, Eric! I can completely identify with how getting wet can make you surprisingly cold... especially if there is some wind. I had a quick question about the long points you had that first day: is it possible some of those birds were running? I've never hunted these birds before, so that may not be realistic at all, but I was just wondering. Thanks!

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I would say some of the distance between dog and birds could be running. Mearns aren’t known for running, actually the opposite, but I think almost all birds will run given certain cover and some pressure.

    Eric - Love the videos and I've actually hunted that exact second spot that you were at, good find! I'm from Tucson
    Question - What kind of setup are you using for recording?
    Thanks,

    Where are you hunting

  • @hameedullahkhan2752

    Sir Eric, i have two english pointer females. One is mother and one daughter .when i take seperate and alone both work at hunt very well, and work slowly and near to me. when i took them together at hunt both run by seeing each other. Due to running they flew away the birds and cannot point.
    I notice that the daughter always follows mother in filed by chasing her. Due which mother runs more abd fast.
    Tell me some solution they both work together slowly.

    • @ericforrester1
      @ericforrester1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have dogs that do the same. Some dogs are just very competitive with each other. I feel the best solution is to hunt them together until they learn to trust each other and honor each others point. However, some dogs may not do that naturally and you would have to help them through training.
