I hope you all enjoy my reaction to Rogue One and thank you for watching! What a great "Episode 3.5" that is so action-packed with a VERY good story! Make sure you watch all the way to the end to get my full thoughts on the film. Personally, I prefer to do most of my thought dumping when the movie is no longer distracting me and I've had a few minutes to digest and reflect on what I've watched. This is the format of reaction video that I really enjoy as a viewer, and want to provide as a creator. 🧡 Please check the Community tab on my channel for updates and read the FAQ for more: kaiielle.com/faq

You wondered why they called it Rogue One. It’s a very neatly tied loop. In A New Hope you had Blue, Red, and Gold squadrons (although blue was ditched due to chromakey issues since green screen used to be done as blue screen).
In The Empire Strike Back, Wedge heads up Rogue squadron which then makes various appearances in future franchise stuff.
This movie gives a nod to that, explaining neatly where it came from given that this team went ‘rogue’.

Fun fact: that hit K-2SO gave to Cassian: was improvised by Alan Tudyk, the actor behind K-2, and Diego Luna covered his mouth to hide his reaction of surprise, intention to scream, curse and laught, all at the same time; turned out to be a fun scene!
About what you say, your intention to see the sequels: just go for it, yes, many complain about it because it’s not what they wanted to be, specially since they wanted them to be still based on the main characters of the original trilogy, they can’t understand they actually didn’t want to really keep being the main characters, with all the things it implies, they just wanted to be there to make the transition to new main characters and not having to be there as main characters for another three movies; got to remember they’re not young anymore and didn’t want to have that intense participation, we even have to remember that even Carrie Fisher died in the middle of the realization of this trilogy. For that thing to happen: a real continuation of the original characters, this trilogy should have happen at least 20 years before it was made, and the actors would be able to make it the way many fans would like it. Also they’ve used things like the one you saw at this movie: gigital face recreations from those characters when they were younger or alive, like Mof Tarkin or Leia, and something that was made with Luke also at the recent TV series, but: these first times it was made, as you can see, they’re not perfect, and at the most recent one, the one from The Book of Boba Fett, it was made just the last year, after many efforts to make it better, and just for some very short scenes; to pretend to make it for main characters that will be on screen for almost all the time it would be a titanic effort, and not able to make it good enough at it’s time, 7 years ago, that it was still not good enough. Those that expected that from the sequels were not realistic, yes, there were stories from the old cannon that would have made an amazing sequel trilogy, like Dark Empire, but like I said: it would have been great if made at the middle 90’s with the main characters young enough to make it. At this point it was made something that could be made given the circumstances and technological resources, so yes, it delivers what could be considered good enough. 👍🏽
Now for the TV series, a few years later, with new technological resources they’re giving the fans something closer to what they want but still being able to have those characters not as main characters but for short appearances that can make those fans as much as those that understand the circumstances happy.

Love Rogue One it perfectly captures the practical look of the original trilogy but adds a dark and brutal tone described as a war movie by the director. This movie also has my favourite space battle with the Battle Of Scarif. Fun details but Gold squadron (in the Y Wing bombers) and Red Squadron (in the X Wings) actually appeared in A New Hope both squadrons took part in the Death Star trench run along with Luke. Gold Squadron were wiped out along with most of Red Squadron. They actually used old and unused footage of the Gold and Red Squadron pilots (mostly footage of Gold and Red Leader in their cockpits) from A New Hope. The female pilot who says "Look at the size of that thing" was talking about the Death Star when she recorded that scene meant for A New Hope but she was cut from the film. They happened to find a bunch of archived footage from A New Hope so they used alot of this for the cockpit shots. Red five who got shot down in this movie was replaced by Luke in A New Hope who flew as Red five throughout the movies and was often referred to as Red Five in comics and novels along with games.
The Hammerhead Corvette you see ramming the Star Destroyer is heavily inspired by the Hammerhead-class cruiser which first appeared in the amazing Knights of the Old Republic video game in 2002 you of course know it as the Endar Spire from the opening of Kotor. Pretty interesting that their using a design based on a 4000 year old ship but hey i love Knights of the Old Republic so I'm not complaining.
We also have the MC75 Cruiser used by The Mon Calamari admiral Raddus who led the assault on Scarif. Shuttle SW-0608 which we saw Rogue One use to land on Scarif along with their squadron of rebellion solders. Delta-class T-3c Shuttle which was used by Krennic and his Deathtrooper. This is an older model than the iconic Lambda-class shuttle which we see in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. TIE Striker It was specifically designed by a research group on Scarif to protect high-security Imperial bases in an atmosphere. Pretty sure it cannot travel into space which makes it very similar to the snow speeder used by the rebels in Empire Strikes. There's so many ships introduced in Rogue One had a massive impact on future games and shows.
Those Black Stormtroopers are called Death Troopers who were an elite variant of the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers designed for stealth, espionage and lethality. These guys were actually the first image we saw of the movie as they were teased before the trailer came out. The vehicle you see Jyn Erso being rescued from is a turbo tank which is based on the Juggernaut from Revenge of the Sith used by the Republic. This tank also shows up in the Clone Wars and some video games.
That interesting ship you see being named the callsign Rogue One is a U Wing created for this movie and is still used in alot of Star Wars media. Overall Rogue One has created the most Disney content in terms of Vehicles and ships along with droids and weapons seconded by Mandalorian. Stuff introduced in Rogue One can be seen in Video games, Comic's, Books, and other TV shows like Mandalorian and Star Wars Rebels.
We also see Coastal defender stormtrooper on Scarif also known as Shoretroopers who you'll find on more tropical planets introduced in this movie. We also see tank troopers who are riding in the new Imperial combat assault tank introduced yet again in this movie both the trooper design and the tank. We don't see Imperial tanks in the original movies but they did have more land vehicles shown in video games. comic's, shows, and novels.
The person who gave the plans to Princess Leia was Raymus Antilles who we saw at the end of Revenge of the Sith and moments later after Rogue One he would be choked by Vader in A New Hope. Such a small character but its fun they kept connecting him to Leia and the Tantive IV this famous ship which was the first thing we saw in A New Hope.

    • @williamozier918
      @williamozier918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

"Pretty interesting that their using a design based on a 4000 year old ship" My headcannon is that since physics doesnt change it makes sense that over thousands of years of space travel some designs would just be the most optimal for some sizes/functions, so they would be repeated every few generations.

I don't think anyone can fully understand why the last 5 minutes of this movie are so deeply moving unless they saw Star Wars as a kid in 1977. "Rogue One" is basically a love letter to the first film, and it hits hardest for those of us whose profound love of Star Wars began before it was even called "A New Hope".

I'd watch other reactors just sit and stare, or some were put off by his straightforwardness and actually didn't like him. The slap K2 gave Cassian wasn’t planned and the actor who played Cassian covered his face to hide his laughing cause he thought it was funny and didn’t want to ruin the take. I like your reactions. I like how you don’t feel you need to talk all the time and only when you think of something. That feels more like an honest reaction to me. 33:59 Anthony Daniels has been in all of the Skywalker Saga movies and the two Anthologies. He played 3PO in 10 of them and played a character helping the Wookies escape Kessel in Solo. 35:08 the X-Wing crashing was Red 5 which made that call sign available when Luke joined the rebellion. The only squadron to make it through the gate was Blue Squadron which was done to explain why Blue Squadron wasn’t in Episode 4. The real reason was they used blue screen and you couldn’t see the blue on the space battle so they changed it to Red Squadron. If you look at R2 in Luke’s X-Wing during battle you’ll see his blue parts aren’t blue. 45:34 According to rumors all of Rogue One or at least a part of them survived the battle then Disney & Lucasfilm questioned why they survived. Apparently the director and writers thought Disney & Lucasfilm wouldn’t have approved a film where the main actors died. It made sense for them all to die cause they weren’t in Episode 4. In this movie I’d have to say that Chirrut and K2 were my favorites. Donnie Yen did an excellent job as a blind man which he did again in John Wick 4.

Your final thoughts are on-point. The first reel and a half can seem a bit slow. Even in a universe where we know the timeline and the major players, introducing the viewer to new settings, characters and some exposition on why we should care about them does take time and effort. But, how those are spent can make or break a movie. Gareth Edwards has been quoted as saying that war movies were part of his inspiration working on Rogue One. A fair number of reactors don't pick up on that while watching... You obviously did. I like your thought on Baze and Chirrut being atypical for Star Wars characters! In this story, they do indeed stand out. There are many duos throughout the SW stories (I loved you getting a little misty seeing 3PO and R2 again!), but for me Baze and Chirrut's relationship feels unique. They are easily my favorites from this movie, with K2SO a close second. Thank you for continuing to be real and honest with us, and I enjoyed watching this with you! Nicely done!

On the war movie aspect. The stormtroopers and Empire in general is filled with Nazi iconography. Like they for the most part are kind of like Nazis or fascists. So its in purpose
Speaking of Nazis, i actually really liked Krennic. He really believes the Death Star is amazing. And he deserves everything for it. The irony is, the last thing he sees is his precious weapon killing him

This is a movie that you have to watch a few times to get involved with the characters. Like you said, you don’t have 3 movies worth of character attachment to get emotionally involved. It took me 2 or 3 times to really feel the gravity of this movie and the more I watch it, the more I love it. Big fan of Felicity Jones performance. Vader is a beast and not sure if you noticed that Red 5 died freeing up Luke’s spot in A New Hope. Thanks for sharing this reaction with us! Looking forward to more 😊

You are absolutely correct in saying this is a war movie. Though the comparison you made is different than how most see it. A lot of people see this more as a Vietnam war parallel, whereas the originals were more WW2. Either way it makes sense and I like your interpretation.
Tarkin, who was originally played by the late Peter Cushing, was digitally recreated and yet somehow the gravitas of Mr Cushing still showed through and gave the character that extra oomph as you describe it. Krennic was just another imperial jackass with desire for power, I completely agree that he was not the most memorable of villains.

Funny story: I worked at the movie theater when this came out and we got to see it early and when Bodhi Rook (the pilot) gets captured by Saw Garerra, one of the girls I worked with thought Saw said "Booty Rock" when he was reading the card with his name on it, and she just went hysterical and every time I watch that scene I laugh my ass off. 🤣 Every reaction has been amazing so far and love to see new fan's perspective on the movies.

Holy crap! I've been waiting for you to get to this. MADE MY DAY, and I haven't even started in. Gotta go make a good snack and some hot coffee. What a treat. I'm an older fan, who loved and saw the original trilogy IN A MOVIE THEATER, quite an experience. I love my original characters played by the original actors, so it's always difficult trying to view other actors in the parts. I've tried watching I, II, and III; and they're a lot of fun for entertainment, but I've never been able to sit down and get through them. Lots of tech and flash, but I love heroism. The first time I saw this, I had no idea what it was about. Rogue One? Another Star Wars movie? Ehhh, I dunno. I started watching and almost immediately found I loved two things: 1. The story idea, and 2. the overarching heroism of each of the characters to fulfill the mission. What a wonderful idea to actually tell the story that leads right into IV. Gosh, it was like the first two hours of "...a New Hope..." that I missed because I walked into the theater two hours late. Welp, gotta make some coffee. Thanks for doing this one. :)

speaking of original actors, Red and Gold leaders are the same people from A New Hope who are with Luke when they attack the Death Star. they used archived footage from ANH to add them in here so for OT fans it was a great connective tissue between this movie and the start of episode 4.
also for a brief second when the rebel fleet arrive you can see the Ghost ship which belongs to the main characters from Star Wars Rebels.

For the battle over Scarif they utilized some unused footage from the Death Star run in A New Hope so Gold and Red leader could reappear.
In a way the battle explains why the Rebel forces we see in A New Hope are so meager for a Galactic Rebellion. Scarif cost them a lot of casualties while a lot of the fleet presumably scattered across the galaxy.

I think he's a cool villain who believed in the Empire and his Death Star project, but unfortunately for him had his life's work confiscated by his old colleague and rival, Tarkin, who sought to take credit for Krennic's efforts. Ironically, Krennic ultimately met his end at the hands of the weapon that he created, an attack ordered by Tarkin in order to eliminate Krennic as a competitor for the Emperor's favour.
