  • Pulling spinners is a great way to target walleyes in the weeds. Unlike most methods used to troll walleyes this videos showcases a very hands on approach to pulling spinners. This video was shot in the Northern Wisconsin and shows how effective pulling spinners through new weed growth can be this time of year. Thanks for watching!

    Just had a trip up to Northern Michigan, and we killed it with these set-ups. Used a single hook harness for leeches, and 2 to 3 hook harness for crawlers. Walleyes were hitting the crawlers more than the leeches, but had many catches on both.

    To the point with every detail covered! Thanks for the insight. I usually run bottom bouncers and they pick up a ton of weeds. I will be trying this lindy weight style my next time out! When you say bullet weight you mean the weight for a Texas rig? It would be good also above a swivel. Might try that too. Keep the vids comin!

    Watched this recently and have some thoughts, you were fishing weed edges and sometimes right in the weeds, early growth weeds. Up here on the Bay of Quinte, the walleye have changed from open water to weed beds. I have a type of spinner that I use in conjunction with a small piece of night crawler and a small plastic worm trailing from the hook. We also use line counter reels, so we know where we are. From Mid June to end of August, I fish generally in 7-10 feet, sometime 12 feet and have great success, IMOP the line counters help us a LOT. Just my .02

    My boats setup for salmon. On my home walleye lake in wi ten min away it’s really clear with deep weeds and rock I like pulling spinners on boards and downriggers with long leads. Idk why but tanks come off the downriggers prob because I’m presenting the bait at exactly the correct depth since my helix picks up my down rigger ball

    Hey Tom,
    I fish a lot of water with very minimal weed growth in the lakes because they are very turbid as well as a heavy presence of common carp (eastern Nebraska reservoirs). Right now our water temps are hovering around 58-64 degrees depending on the water body, most of the contour changes are very gradual with the fish I have been catching right off the rock jetty's and dams in 5-12 feet of water. But I can't ever seem to locate good schools of fish other than dinks. This only seems to happen once or twice a day I feel like fish are deeper but cant seem to find their midday holds, checked creek channels, any deep structure I can find such as a tree or some gradual humps, 90% of all the lakes an hour away from me are only 14-30 foot deep at max with the majority of the lake being around the 12 foot range. Tried pulling cranks and bottom bounces and jigs with leeches and minnows which I've had some success, what are some things I should focus on to get more bites? 2-5 fish a day is all I can seem to muster on an outing not counting dinks.

    Great vids. 2 Qs one, the last fish had some bloody damage on the camera side. Have a idea on what caused it? Two, when we troll like this (Minnesota) we can count on several 2-4lbers bass in the mix. Q, do you catch them and cut them out of the vid? Or are the lakes just not popular for bass?

    Cool video man. I recently subbed to your channel and your knowledge of walleye is incredible. Quick question, I know it typically depends on where the fish are relating to the bottom and other variables, but what is your standard leader length for a spinner rig? I may have missed that in the video. Thanks!

      @chrisweber4450 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have any issues with them scattering when you drive over them in that shallow of water, or do the weeds give them a sense of comfort to avoid the scatter?

    • @TomBoley
      @TomBoley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Leeches pull through much better. Another tip is don't pull the bait away from them. Run a larger octopus hook so the font hook themselves and just don't move the rod when they bite. Most the time the leech stays on and they just fall off the bait.

  • @outdoorsman9384
    @outdoorsman9384 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tom if I'm doing that technique drifting in river current do i have to get my electric trolling motor faster than current a little to get spinner moving and using one hook should i use a piece of worm or full length crawler if I don't use leaches

      @TomBoley  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jwill9877
      @jwill9877 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slow death works better than this on lakes where the water is clearer. But your crawler has to be spinning and it has to be a hook only and no beads or spinners. I don't know what but it's deadly. It wins tournaments. It must mimic bug hatch's or something
