After Screaming Mantis, Meryl stood behind to cover his back. When Snake almost reach the Microwaves room he starts to feel real bad and the syringe no longer works. FROGs Units apears but Raiden interfears to save Snake once again. He wanted to go by himself because he sees himself as a machine. Snake disagrees and then Raiden stood to cover his back.

I love how Snake and Raiden spend like two minutes having a heart-to-heart in front of the enemy, who are both just waiting politely until they finish evidently../

To be faair, Raiden's cyborg body is definitely not normal, not just being basically bullet-proof to 50. cal bullets, his body stood numerous many strong strikes from Vamp his, legs easily lifting 2 heavy GEKKO's breakdancing style, and he literally block Outer Haven, its more than half a Kilometer long ramming into him,
Raiden's Body just blocks it at a complete stop, extreme amount of Force / Pressure that extremely heavy Ship produced, and his body literally absorb all of it, didnt even flinch till the ground break
Plus, he's fast, he can just run through the hallway tnh

Raiden is what is know as a tragic hero. He started off as a literal copy of snake in mgs 2, and people were infuriated. Saying just that, only later do people realize that that was the case. The patriots orchestrated the big shell incident as an experiment to combat against those who would threaten their reign, and Raiden was the unfortunate guinea pig simply because he was the only child soldier who acted differently from the numerous child soldiers that solidus trained.
He became so confused, so fearful, so angry at himself that all he could do is protect the one person who gave him any sense of what is real... Snake. He only see's himself as a protector to the one who gave him any closure. Poor guy.
He then became a beloved figure in the franchise because we see him undergo such an evolution. Raiden really is the hyper representation of the everyman in everyday life. Trying to fight fate, while keeping close those who gave a sense of peace
He wasn’t a copy of snake. He was the complete opposite of snake as snake was a battle hardened veteran who can charm girls while raiden was this feminine looking pretty boy who was barely able to keep a relationship up with his nagging girlfriend.

But at face value their not the same character as snake is battleharden veteran cool guy while raiden was a complete rookie who was dorky at times.

Main problem is the distinct lack of arms in MGS4. Granted they could've just have him wear the trench coat like a normal person but where is the fun in that?

For anyone who finds this and is wondering, it's a quote from the first X-Men movie, where Storm kills a character named Toad. In its current form, the line is super weird and random, but that's because Toad's character had a lot of cut dialogue rambling on about toads. The line from Storm was supposed to be a payoff to send off an annoying side character, but since he barely speaks and they kept that line in, it's one of the strangest lines in the entire franchise lmao

Raiden is actually my favorite MGS character. He has the most character development out of all the characters. And whereas Snake was a badass soldier from the beginning, we actually get to see Raiden get transformed from a new recruit to an absolute unit, and it’s so so satisfying.

It says a lot about Snake's reputation that even though he's having a seizure on the floor a bunch of near-emotionless bio-engineered soldiers are still so wary of getting close enough to capture him.

I love this scene. Raiden has gone from being Snake's pupil to being his true equal and friend. It's a great call back to a similar moment in MGS2, where Snake stayed behind to fight a seemingly impossible battle with Fortune while Raiden went ahead to fight the RAYs and confront Solidus.

@@BIGD-cc7ru I know this is old but they both technically lost too. Fortune beat Snake and Cuffed him. Raiden, while still putting up a really good fight, started to get overwhelmed and crawling away. Perhaps not a completely loss for the later but he definitely didnt win.

the saddest part of mgs 4 is raiden's sacrifices. raiden is ebery bit the hero snake is. this scene is particularly touching. of course sniper wolf's death scene is still the biggest tear jerker in mgs. i cried like a baby the first time i played that scene lol.

I love how everyone, Meryl, Raiden, ... even Liquid Ocelot (at the very end), pretty much give their lives so that Snake can have another chance, another footstep closer to accomplish his duty.

God Raiden’s arc in this game is a real tear jerker. The fact that he went from clinging to Snake’s leg like a scared child, begging him not to go and die and leave Raiden feeling all alone in the world, to being able to let Snake go here and accept the prospect of facing a life without him… 😭😭😭

And no, I'm sorry, I don't buy the "honor" explanation you brought up, not from the F.R.O.G soldiers. They have "Nanomachines, son" that suppress emotions in combat, so why would they care about honor? I'm sure you can explain.
Like the Snakes Stun Knife, Raidens Sword carries an electric charge (in case you played MGS2, Olga knocks him down electrifying him with the swoed) though with nanomachines on his body, the electricity could possibly disperse, such as when he throws the sword against the wall he stops sparking all around. (this is a theory still in research, cuzz kojima didn't spoke about the subject neither) Another theory is that in mythology, Raiden is a japanese god of storm and Lightning (like in Mortal Kombat Saga) like Raiden says "I am Lightning, the rain transformed", maybe kojima wanted to make a refence here aswell
don't forget the room is too tight, there was no reason to start an warzone in there, CQC fitted better in there. Nanomachines suppress emotions that forbids the soldier of doing his mission, honor its not the case, therefore Liquid/ocelot had some kind of honor in some perspective

With all the hate on Raiden over the years, I always thought his character was awesome. From starting out as a timid young rookie in MGS2 to becoming a fearless killing machine putting his body on the line to help Snake in the end. That’s what you call a warrior and a loyal friend. What a great arc. With all the weird supernatural villains in the game, it was nice to have a powerful cyborg on the good side.
And then MGR:R where he becomes even more of a badass
