Digging in an old Beryllium Mine - BERYL, AQUAMARINE, GARNET, URANIUM ...

  • Me and Wyatt headed back the the beryllium mine to dig around for some Beryl crystals hoping for some aquamarines. Inside the mine we found books of Muscovite, Quartz, Feldspar, Garnets, Beryl, low quality Aquamarines and some type of uranium ore. Most everything was in the harder rock so trying to extract it without it breaking was a bit difficult. This mountain area is made up of Granodiorite and schist. We plan on doing more digging here later as well as searching around the area for other spots that will hopefully give us some better finds.
    * Going into mines can be very dangerous and is not recommended. Research, experience and awareness are all needed before entering a mine. We made sure to do our research before entering this mine. It was a single tunnel and went back about 400 feet. Always remember to be safe when exploring new areas*

go to Mt. Antero or Mt. White in the Colorado Rockies . most is claimed but many claim owners will let you dig . take half of what you find if it's valuable . the stuff these guys found is JUNK so would have no value to a claim owner . you will find what they found in size but pure sky blue , crystal form but opaque like turquoise . I'm looking on my desk at an aquamarine , 69.4 carats , 12X13X15mm hexagon , 45mm long , clear gem quality , Platinum Blue color Maxixe , double termination , I left a small piece of the matrix on to help identify it . dug out of solid decomposing granite and ice at the California Mine claim on the side of the mountain at 13,000 feet .

you are dealing with plenty of dangerous minerals, beside uranium, there are silicate minerals and tiny shrapnels get entrapped in the lungs and never leave. You will start paying a heavy health price in few years. Best thing to do is put on some good masks, at the very lase 2 or 3 of the blue ones one on top of the other.... good job!

The uranium coming out of that mine should be Autunite. Drop me an email if you want to hit up a spot together sometime.

The gem quality ones were surrounding that low quality large one. They're small but you can glue them in a setting all together and they have more sparkle than that big one.

Uranium is mostly harmless unless inhaled. Then you've got an Alpha particle source IN your lungs. Can you say "Small Cell Lung Cancer"?

Had to quit watching when he started hitting a screwdriver with a geologists pick. Those tools are not meant for that job.
