When I was 12 I found a peice of car tail light. I showed my uncle as a joke he owned mines all over. Ended up being a 8 carat ruby and I was hooked on mining forever.

My mom lives in Franklin NC, right off of Highlands Rd. This past October my kids and I went to visit, and while my 11 yr old son was walking around on her property, he found a rock that looked like gravel to me, but then I saw glints of a dark pinkish red in it! I have to find a gemologist out here in New Jersey to tell me if it does have rubies in it and if they're worth anything. If there's a way, I can email you a picture of it. My mom mentioned that she has the mining rights to her property, so I told her it might be worth it to get out there and see what she can find! She is 75 yrs old, so...Thank you for this informative video. I sure hope that you guys have some form of gun, machete or something, just incase you run into any wild life, or a bigfoot! P.S. My mom also had/has one of those X tree limb formations in her backyard, just like bigfoots are supposed to do. One time when she was planting flowers in her backyard, she got tired and left one for the next day. When she went out there to plant it the next day, it was gone, but she found a marble on top of the dirt right by her back steps. She also found a marble one other time, on top of the dirt by her mailbox, which is by the street and probably about 60 or 70 feet away from where the other marble was found. Something also hit the back of her house one time. I think it's pretty interesting :)

My grandfather got me interested in stones when I was younger. He passed and I've gotten into looking for them as a hobby. I wish I had more time with him to have all the knowledge he had but I would consider myself a novice. I still have a hard time with telling the difference between quartz and some of these other gems, especially when the color is similar. I found something today that looks very much like blood quartz or rose quartz but is significantly heavier then it's counterparts. I'm having a hard time with it lol

One of my favorite spots! Also Herbert Mine, Hart cut, corundum knob, Big Shaft Mine, Buck creek. Also Zoisite branch can be productive. I find some gold over on the Tennessee side. I have found some gold in the upper stretches of Buck creek and also a little in Zoisite branch. Thanks for posting!

I think you'll probably find that the mystery striated greenish white material is a type of serpentine called Antigorite, and the small black mineral is Spinel, both of which are common in these similar WNC corundum locations. I have found big pieces at Buck Creek and the old Carter Mine in Madison County, and both are easily identified by a hardness test.

A real rock hounding video finding real stones from a real documented historical locality. I get so tired of seeing these Russian and Asian mining videos showing people pull out pounds of gold or valuable gemstones every time they go out. It just doesn't work like that.
