  • While searching for pegmatites, we found and explored the entrance to an old Beryllium Mine. Inside we found books of mica, quartz, feldspar's, many garnets and of course beryl crystals. We plan on returning to this mine to fully explore it as well as the mountain itself which covers many miles. The mountain is made up of granodiorite and schist rocks.

Fun spot, looks like lots of possibilities there, could be a beryl of fun. Definitely wellies next time and maybe an O2 tester or live flame depending how far it goes back, CO2 bad.

It goes back about 400 ft and we made it to the end. The air seemed fine but the quality of it was on our minds even before we entered the mine. They did not use wood timbers which means no rotting wood that would suck oxygen but deeper inside was some sheets of metal and metal tubes that were all rusted over. For iron to rust it needs oxygen. There were small animal nests inside too. Most of the tunnel is flooded with water also. I have another video to release with more footage of whats inside. I should hopefully get it on TH-cam within a week. Unfortunately, I was not recording when we were at the very back. Lots of beryls and other minerals that glow under ultra violet light.

I have a mine claim(hills). So far, we have found beryls, aquamarines ,columbite and some mica and quartz in the soil and we've gone down to the depth of about 11 meters but still no solid rock. Can there be pegmatite below or they maybe alluvial deposits and usually what's the average depth between ground level and pegmatite?

Sounds like you may be on to something good. I was thinking that maybe the soil your digging in is saprolite which is highly weathered rock. But if you dug down 11 meters, I would think you would have hit more solid rock? What does the soil look like that you are digging in? I would say its either a highly weathered granite/pegmatite or it is a thick deposit that came from somewhere else. If it is a deposit, is there a steep slope where it could have come from? If so, I would check it out. If you think it could be highly weathered rock your digging in, I have a few videos where we dug in rock that was weathered if you want to check them out for a comparison. It was loose like soil for the most part but usually after a few feet it slowly gets harder to dig in and eventually becomes solid rock. Hope this helps you. If you have more questions, let me know and ill try to help with what I can. Sounds like a fun claim you got going.

@@GeoForgeThanks man, It's red soil(with pockets of white coarse soil) but after 9 meters the soil is greenish- black with very weathered mica. The area is hilly, there are four hills in total, we are still working on one hill(artisanal mining). The problem we have right now is there's no way to track where the minerals are(veins etc) because they're dispersed anywhere in the soil, ( the coltan pockets we have found so far range from 0.5-13 kg and the beryls range from a few grams(gem grade) to hundreds of kgs(non gem grade) and mica.

@@mysteriousdude280 I cant be certain but, I believe your digging in a highly weathered and deteriorated granite/pegmatite since your finding all those minerals in the same area. Sounds like you found a good spot. I imagine the hard rock would have to show up at some point. Are you digging a hole straight down? I have no real experience when it comes to mining but, I was thinking, if you haven't already, to dig some test holes/trenches around where you are finding beryls, columbite, and etc. Maybe doing this can help you better understand where the pegmatite or pegmatites are at. Best of luck to you, sounds like your finding some really cool minerals.

I'm sorry to hear that. Been trying to fix this problem. Its hard to realize just how fast I'm moving when I'm holding the camera while hiking, climbing over things and ducking down. Ill be working on this and I think I'm slowly getting better but it is still something I need to improve on. Thanks for letting me know.
