At first, the wants-based gameplay felt so fresh and it made so much sense, but soon it showed how limiting relying only on sims' wants was. However, this habit of focusing on the wants is still stuck with me which is really hard to unlearn haha
I always look at my sims wants (and I've been doing it ever since I first started playing the game and when I was playing insecurities-based), but I've never felt like I absolutely have to fulfil them. It COULD BE NICE if fulfil them, but if I don't - who cares? It's just the same as believing that if you don't pair Alexander Goth with Lucy Burb up you'll forever be banned from The Sims community and all your save files will automatically delete themselves. But habits can be very strong, that's 100% true.
@@baddynaddy yeah I know, I just got too lazy with the promise that if I fulfill wants the game will make up the story for me 😆but it always just turns into the grind
Thanks for sharing your playstyles. I'm a Sims 3 player and have never played Sims 2, but in some ways my playstyle resembles yours. I want it to be fun, so I want a plan, but I play on high free-will, so the plan isn't always kept. If my sims go off the rails, I let them. I always randomize the personality traits so each sim is different and most of them are interesting to play due to some negative aspect of their personalities. I spend a lot of time sitting back and watching them or the sims around them to see how they behave with each other, which helps direct my decisions when I decide to exercise them. I like jumping from household to household and getting to know the individual sims, which has caused me to connect with them and become fond of them.
I never managed to be fully wants based, because if wants didnt interest me, I didn't want to do them. I tried editing the wants that rolled, but hafl the time it didnt even seem to work, and then new wants i didnt care about would just appear. So I play wants based when i feel like it, and just do what I think they might do based on their hobbies or personality if I dont! Aspiration selection was something I never agreed with the zodiac method on, and I started doing the calculator, but the problem was that I didnt have access to my teens' personality points when they aged up so I had to start writing those down when they were children, and this just became really cumbersome. So, I started doing something extremely simple instead: If I have an idea of what their aspiration should be, based on what they were like as a child, I give them that one, same for secondary. If I dont know or dont want to choose, I have a randomizer set up in a spreadsheet, that gives me two primary and two secondary (and also turn-ons and turn offs, everyone gets one eye/hair color turn on and one other) and I just choose one of the ones that rolled, the first one being the priority. And sometimes? I re-roll if I dont like what I got. It's my game I can cheat if I so wish 😂 I did tune my ACR, but I just want to give all my sims babies all the time. It's growing out of control and I need to make some child rules haha. I think seeing what kids look like is super exciting, but since I don't enjoy pairing similar looking sims together and also dont want the hassle of watching out for genentics, I do play with the equal genetics mod, but your way of doing it is very fun to hear about!
Hearing you share your "bad" way of playing is hilarious because it is almost exactly what I do, except I take it a step further. I make my perfect sim/family or two separate perfect sim/families, then use the "no-aging" mod to lock the household to the first day of the life state I want them to be in (mostly teens and adults). Then I just have them pursue whatever interests I figure they'd want to pursue, with 0 time constraints. I rarely ever bother with townies past befriending them for job-promotion purposes. If I want my sim to have a friend, lover, loved one, and so on, I just go back to chargen and make whoever I think would be interesting to introduce them to. Same for wants. I fulfill the ones I agree with, ignore the ones I don't care about, and just live my best Sim life on my own terms lol I think I mostly avoid your issue of getting bored playing the 2nd household because I mostly make lesbians, so I never feel forced to play a character I don't connect to, just in order to give my main sim a lover. But I can see how that would be a problem for people who prefer to play het characters!
I would've 100% prefer to play lesbians too (which I later did a couple of times in The Sims 3 and it was much more enjoyable), but I always really wanted my sim to have a biological child, that's why she needed a male partner. I used to believe my sim was super pretty and I didn't want to "lose" her genes. That was really funny, because she mostly had the 2nd face template 🙈
@@baddynaddy I totally get that, and that's one of the main reasons I tend to make full households when I want bio kids with no mods! You can link up a child to two moms during chargen, and I'm willing to headcanon the child as being biologically related to both moms, given we already have aliens, witches, plant people, genies, and whatnot lol Mods make it possible for two women to have a child and to run them through the same gene mechanics the base game uses for het couples, if people want to actually have babies mid-game rather than making full families in chargen!
I want to share the way I play the game too - inspired by your video on wants based gameplay stile! Also I gotta say it totally feels like you started a trend with that video, I’ve been seeing a lot of people here sharing their ways of playing the game now! Btw all my Pleasure Sims are spoiled brats lol! I also ignore zodiac signs but I treat personality points as traits and do pay a little attention to them! Also I don't quite understand the whole "personality points x aspiration" thing a lot of players have going on. I don't feel like aspirations should be chosen based on personality points! Great video 💖
I don't think I started a trend with that video (people were sharing their way of playing TS2 years before), but some of them got sort of "motivated" to refresh their playing style/tell the world about their journey to something more promising than wants-based. I'm very intrigued by your playing style (I remember you mentioned you enjoyed "playing the God") and I am looking forward to see your video on that topic. 🤩
I basically never play Pleasure sims but your description of a spoiled princess gave me an idea and I'll give it a chance with one of my upper class families in my Uberhood. I also don't really care about the bolts for longterm relationships. For hook-ups, sure, but long-time relationships are generally based more on equal experiences and goals in my game. Sometimes even social class, although that a bit less. Unless I want a Sim to be irresponsible and non-caring, they'll try to make a good and sometimes even just a sensible match as seen in my upper class where land, money, connections and reputation matter much more than compatibility. Does Alexander Goth love Tara DeBateau? Not really and neither is she really in love with him. But the Goths and DeBateaus are the richest of my families and since there is no female Landgraab of age yet, it was the most logical match for both families. They also already have an informal marriage pact with Malcom Landgraab. If his marriage to Hermia Capp should produce daughters, they should be raised closely with the new DeBateau heir as well as the future Goth heir to ideally make some matches. Same goes the other way for any Goth or DeBateau girl and the Langraab heirs.
Also striving for two or three bolts often leads to some sims being unable to find a couple at all. Players spend a lot of sim days checking their sims' chemistry will all the playable sims they have in their hood only to eventually agree to pair their sims up with townies at the end of their sims' lives.
I love your dedication to actually do make-up for the intro 😂 And not only your voice and accent are very pleasant to listen to, but I really liked this video! It really enlightened me as a player... Even if I'm a TS4 player 😂 Keep the good job! Hoping that your channel will go even farther ❤🇧🇷
very glad to have found you! thank you for providing new ideas and inspiration to get into the game once again. sims 2 gameplay is my absolute comfort zone, and I think that goes for a lot more people we could imagine. lots of love! 🩷
I also have to go in and adjust hobbies/interests to make more sense together, hate it when a sports and health hater rolls fitness or sports as their hobby! I've been trying to make more interesting personalities, by giving some sims more extreme personallity points for at least one category, so one 8 , as I found I was making sims all the same (very nice and then even 4/5s for everything else) and I needed to shake things up a bit that way. Especially when I make townies. I love your approach to aspirations being values and experience influenced, that makes so much sense, I will be looking at it like that from now on!
And my males during the "insecurities-based" era were always super active... I'm so happy that babies born in the game always get extreme personalities. Agatha (the alien one) was born with 0 neat and 0 outgoing + 9 active and 10 playful and nice 👽
Thanks for sharing your ways of playing!
I play with TS3 to TS2 traits. But for a loooong time the only mods I have for that were the one that stop Hopeless Romantics from rolling wants to woohoo multiple sims or give them bad memory after proposing/going steady etc or give them advantage in certain careers. I used them more as a tool to give them more personality on top of the personality system in game. Small personal stories you can say. Right now I slowly add more mods for traits but they arent important enough for me to have every single trait mod ever made. XD But I enjoy my clumsy sims to burn their food more often, I won't lie.
I've been sure all those mods do is to slightly change wants for the sims with a certain token, but your comment has just made me realize they really change certain gameplay moments (like clumsy sims burning food). Maybe one day'll bring myself to check them out (at least in my personal save files). Overall, I prefer The Sims 2 being The Sims 2 (without CC from from further games).
@@baddynaddy I absolutely understand. For me, as a relatively new player (only 2 years), it's easier to change things in the game because I don't feel any type of nostalgia, so my game is full of default replacement (skin, eyes, clothes, plants and trees) and mods that slightly alter the gameplay. But when it comes to The Trait Project I view it more as an enhancing it than altering it.
I'm the first like today haha and I just noticed you're at 900 subscribers! Congratulations!!! I can't remember where you were when I found you but I've been here for a while and I've loved it all 😇
Do you mean trying to achieve aspiration failure instead of platinum mood? I love such challenges, I even had a sim once who started with passing out, roaches and fires and then her life "suddenly" got a billion times better (thanks to the motherlode cheat) 😅
