Walnut Shuffleboard 2.0 ...In this video, I take on the monumental task of a 10-foot walnut shuffleboard table for a corporate lounge. Although I built a similar table last year, building it by myself wasn’t quite as easy as tackling the project with 2 friends. However, I was able to rope in a few special guests into this walnut shuffleboard table build and steal some shop space from my buddy Kevin at Fine Point Cabinetry and some CNC time from True Trade Carpentry. And I made a few fresh mistakes on this one that I had to problem solve and fix. I hope you enjoy following along with the process of building this walnut shuffleboard table that will hopefully be enjoyed in the offices of LAUDA Brinkmann for years to come!

You're one of my favorite creators on TH-cam. Your videos are entertaining and your skills are something to aspire towards. If I'm ever able to create things out of wood that turn out even close to what you can do, I'll count myself very lucky. I don't understand why your subscriber numbers aren't higher. Thanks for what you do!
Too kind, John! Thanks very much for the comment. I greatly appreciate the kind words! 🙏🙌
You forgot to tell us the mode of transportation at 17:55 when you went back to Kevin's shop. I'll just assume you teleported. What a beautiful build. Cheers!
😂🤣 I totally forgot about the teleportation option! Next time. And thank you! Cheers!
The tip on avoiding snipe by gluing on extensions is great! Who knew New Jersey had such diverse methods of transportation 🤔Amazing job Keith!
Thanks Mary! To be honest, we don't really have hot air balloons at the ready here in NJ. Please forgive my Tom Foolery 😉😂
Still a beginner woodworker so I appreciate your detailed build videos. I can only hope to get to your level of organization and craftsmanship.
I appreciate that! Thank you. And best of luck on your woodworking journey!
You are a rockstar and one hell of a woodworker. I knew the table would come out nice, but could have never imagined how nice. It is absolutely stunning and we love it. Thank you so very much
Thank you so much, Michael! 😀 And I'm so glad you are enjoying the table and that it was a hit around the office. Thanks again for the opportunity! 🙏👊
Jasons bit in the video was epic lolololol. Great build Keith. Your Craftsmanship is second to none.
Thanks a ton, Nate! And yes, Jason has a way of always stealing the show 😂😆
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this material Keith. I watch every video and learn so much from your techniques. I'm not sure you fully understand how your woodworking craft has become so inspirational for the woodworking community. Keep up the great work!!!
You are very welcome! Thanks so much for the comment and the kind words. I greatly appreciate it.
My 6-year-old son: "Jerry is an expert at climbing. Remember when he climbed up there?" *Points at the garage door tracks*
😂🤣 Jerry has mad ups!!
Bourbon Moth has no chill lmao! Nice job!
😂🤣 he is a busy man and can’t be bothered
At 25:10, you did not explain your mode of transportation. Just took me completely out of the story. C-
Completey kidding, great build as always. This is the level of quality I strive for. Keep them coming!
Good point! 😂. I must have done it the old fashioned way and just drove. And thanks for the kind words!
7:12 What a surprise to see the Gediminas Castle Tower, which is in my native country Lithuania! :) By the way, the table is looking great!
Thanks to Adobe stock videos! 😂 And thanks so much for watching!
Million to one shot doc, million to one
😂🤣 Literally made me LOL. “It’s a corkscrew pasta”
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking haha
"Dude, I already built this table for you once. Why don't you just f*cking figure it out, alright? Don't call me again." -- Spit out my coffee on that!
😂🤣 still gives me chortle every time I hear it!
the bourbonmoth cameo was hilarious
😜🤣 thanks!
Amazing work Keith, and all by yourself! Well, almost. Great collaboration. Keep up the good work, you're a true inspiration.
Thanks so much! I tried to go solo, but my arms aren’t long enough 😂
You did a killer job Keith. The amount of woodwork/effort that goes into a project like this can't reealllyyyyy be appreciated by non-woodworkers. Keep up the great work! -Andy
Thanks Andy!! Very true! Everything looks simple until you dissect it, and break it down into all the processes. 👍🏻
Disappointed there wasn't a British guy narrating this 😂 stunning work as always Keith
😂🤣 those guys are expensive! And thanks very much!
Gotta say, it must be awesome to have such good help so close to you. My wife and daughter help me a bunch and just having extra hands is a big bonus. Great looking build as always!
So true! It's hard to do everything by yourself! 👍
Love your straight up wood working videos. Please wait on buying a new shop or house. Haha I love those videos too but being a woodworker myself I really geek out over videos like yours. Great project!
Thanks TJ! Don’t worry, a new house or shop isn’t on the radar any time soon 😂. Thanks so much for watching 👊🏻
Incredible work. I love the attention to detail and all of the templates and tricks.
Thanks Hector! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a beautiful table, Keith! I love how it turned out, and you taught some really good stuff in the video!
Oh fantastic! So glad to hear that. Thanks Earl!
Although it is highly unlikely I’ll ever build half the projects you post, your vids are always packed with killer tips and tricks that are so useful. Thanks for taking us on the journey with this one!
Thanks Robbie! I greatly appreciate the comment and the kind words. It makes it all worthwhile! 👍
Derek spitting truth
No BS with that guy.
Love your collaboration with other folks and their shops! Great camaraderie there and it seems-you work well with others. Oh such a good idea---love that 'L' jig for the table saw, ingenuous. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Daniel! 👍 Working with fellow craftsmen always elevates my game and makes building much more fun!
Hoping to eventually buy some property right in-between your and Kevin's shops. I can't imagine a place with more beautiful landscapes and interesting things to do. I can hot air balloon over my mountain ocean yachts, that are also being jumped by daredevils on dirt bikes.
It’s a lovely place to live 😂
Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for sharing Keith.
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻😎
Good think you had some actual Woodworking help on this one, Keith!! As opposed to Jason and Nick… 😂
😬😂🤣
Amazing work, Keith! It really turned out fantastic! 😃
I don't even know how to play it, but already want a table like that! 😂
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
thanks so much! It’s a pretty simple game…even easier than curling! 😂
Great build, nice work! (Loved the callback on the mitres!)
Thank you! Cheers! Unfortunately, those miters haunt my dreams...😂
It’s so much fun to watch your videos and listen to your humorous voiceover ❤
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Fanfrickentastic! I cannot imagine how much walnut or the number of hours that went into this. Not to mention the enormous pucker factors when fitting the logo! Great job.
😂 I think I’m still puckered! Thanks so much for the kind words - I greatly appreciate it! 🙌🏻
This is so amazing. Love how the logo inlay turned out!
Thanks so much! Although, it might be time to hang up my epoxy artist apron after this one 😂🤣
this is inspiring woodworking... everything about this video is high quality
I really appreciate that! Thanks very much for the comment and for watching!
Damn dude, that is incredible. You need to do a domino tips, tricks and alignment video. You drill 16 million holes and they always line up!
😂Thanks man! People think those machines are just point and shoot, but it’s all about layout and using the old noggin 🤓
Despite the hurdles here & there, i'm still appreciating your ...wait for it ...POSITIVE ENERGY!
Great project, Keith mate! Didn't even notice when 37 minutes passed. Now i can go to sleep in a good mood, because of your ...wait for it ...POSITIVE ENERGY!
Wow! Thanks so much! I greatly appreciate the comment and so glad I could help put you to sleep 😜😂
That's an awesome looking board, Keith~! I've always looked at one of these as something I'd love to make, but after watching your build, I might have to leave it on the "dream project" list. We'll see...
Again, great job~!!
Thanks Andrew! Yeah, always more work than you think from just looking at a picture. That’s why I like it when clients watch my videos because they can see how much work goes into building their furniture.
Keith back at it again. You're a pro, always a pleasure to watch and learn from you.
Thanks a ton, Shane! Much appreciated 👊🏻
such a great team work seeing youre fellow woodworker helping you.
Thank you!
Thanks. Great video. Great table
Thanks Joe! 💪🏻🙌🏻
Great job, looks good and you had several nice tips that I'm going to immediately start using.
That’s great! Glad it was helpful!
This is epic build and a really good video. Your narration is always very useful and fun.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it 🙌🏻🤙🏻
I have to say that Jason's advice to you seems perfectly in line with his stabdard demeanor. 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, he's a dingus and we all know it. 😂
Your talking tempo in the end reminded me of chef john for a second
👍🏻👍🏻
Great job. Looks really cool. Taught me to never make a shuffle board. For me, I always seem to be facing the other direction when shop fixtures want to give me wedgey. Look forward to the next project.
😂 Thanks Andrew! And I guess at some point, we all take a sawhorse to the groin, in one way or another 🤣
Love the stock video interludes!
😂🤣 thanks! Gave me a chuckle, too!
Look what the algorithm recommended to me.

Nicely done Keith ✔️
I think you should sell all those fancy modes of transportation and put an addition on your shop...😜

Very nice shuffle board table. I hope you were paid well cuz man you worked you behind off on this one. All the running you did. Awesome job Keith! Beautiful work you awesome impress me. Happy New Year! Wil-

I've been waiting for this video! I feel like I've been hearing about this on the podcast for a year now.

Looks amazing beautiful work as usual Keith
Thanks a lot, Jim! 🙌🏻
Super cool project Keith. It's great to see the work you're putting out!
Thanks Darin! Great to hear from you! Hope all is well!
That's just a crazy amount of work, but damn it is BEAUTIFUL! Nice work as always Keith.
Thanks Bob! Definitely a lot of work, but all worth it!
Keith, I have to thank you for this video. Because of its amazing quality my wife was finally able to achieve climax. I should also mention that I’m not married….hmmm. Anyways, great build. Loved the look of the walnut on walnut!
Fantastic! Glad I could assist with...ahem...that. 😂😆. And thanks for the kind words!
Great snipe trick, thanks!!
Glad it was useful! 👍🏻
Loved the video Keith, did you consider having Jason and Nick make a cameo at the end offering to help?
😂 No, but that would have been a good idea!
Incredible build.
Thanks Kevin! 👍🏻
Good old Jason Hibbs, aka Bourbon Moth. You can always count on him for a laugh.
You’re right about that! 😂
that is beautiful!
Thanks a lot, Jim! 🤙🏻
This was pretty cool, next you should make a skeeball alley.
I’ll have to pass on that one 😜🤣
You must have the patience of a saint, Keith. Most of the problems you had would have broken a normal person, but you sorted it out like I knew you would.
It is however, a shame that you wouldn’t have made any money on this project though; paying friends for their help… plus buying speedboats, bicycles and even a jet. Mind you, it’s how a TH-camr with a quarter of a million subs should travel! Either way, it’s a superb job and looks incredible. I wasn’t sure if you used the printed version of the logo when I listened to the Shop Sounds podcast, but it’s nice to see the epoxy one being incorporated instead. The whole project looks super slick and as you say, the customers face was one of an elated man. You definitely need to make yourself a cart to wheel stuff around your shop though.
On a separate note, I noticed you have a Pica Dry pencil. Have you seen the Pica Precision Pencil that they make? It’s a mechanical pencil with a 0.9mm lead. I have one and they’re great! Keep up the great work, my good man and have a good day 👍
Yeah, buying all those fancy toys (especially the boat) really cut into my profit margin 😂. Oh well, feeling that ocean breeze through my wispy hair made it all worth it! 😜 And for the Pica precision...it looks great, but don't think they make white lead for it which is why I use a sewing ceramic pencil for the fine layout work on walnut. Thanks so much for the comment and the kind words!
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Couldn’t agree more, Keith. My wispy hair would like the same! 😂
As a side note, the Pica Precision is a superb bit of kit, but with regards to replacement leads, any brand will work. Amazon sell plenty of white leads (at least over here in the UK), if you can handle a different brand being in it? Although, I know what you’re like when things don’t match 😉
Take it easy and have a great day 👍
Hi, going home via Berlin seems a little excessive … happy holidays!
I had a little extra time in my schedule 😜😂
really enjoyed this one keith! hope that posterior is doing alright
Ha! Thanks man! There was a moment there where I honestly didn’t know if I was going to be able to extricate myself from the plastic beneath 😂
Sold me on the shaper. Great build Keith thinks it’s better the second time 😉. I know plans would be a stretch but I think it would sell for you. If anything possibly selling the template pattern svg.
Thanks! Plans never really sell well for me, so it’s not worth the upfront cost.
Good work Keith 👍
Thanks a lot, Jose!
I really appreciated the plywood blocks and CA glue for clamp in the mitered corners! This is incredible project I am dying to know how you figured out how much to charge and what did you ultimately charged him for this table? Since this is your second build I realize you knew approximately how long it would take. But how would you figure out it the first time?
Thanks Dan! You can check out this Made for Profit pricing guide which is what I use a baseline for developing my pricing structure: madeforprofit.com/pricingguide/
You are a master of workflow! I am learning a ton from every video
I appreciate that! Glad to hear you are picking up some tips along the way! 👍
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking i do have to ask....since you have a whole work shop full of very very expensive tools and jigs that get aggressively marketed on TH-cam (woodpecker, festool, etc).....did you buy any of those or are they all free stuff?
@@ronj8000 Bought 90%-95% of my tools. I've been at this for 30 years - long before social media and youtube.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking much respect!
Nice work
Thanks a lot! 👍🏻
Keith, you forgot to thank Jason :)
Oops! 😂
I'm not into shuffleboard, but that is a great looking table! Regarding the epoxy logo, would it be possible to have poured the blue color with the form at a slight angle which would create a taper of the blue epoxy. Then after it cures, pour the red so you would have a transition from blue to red with out the actual mixing? The catch is that you would have to sand it by hand to find the depth where the two colors blend, but it might be a more gradual transition without having the muddy mix of the two colors. Then just clear over the top. I've never done a project like that so I'm certainly no expert, just thought it might be an idea if you do something similar in the future. Or maybe Jason would help. Apparently he loves epoxy tables. In any case, awesome work! I wish I had your patience.
The pigment is too opaque for the the colors to show through each other.
As always: great job! But let's be honest, your cats did the hard job of this project. 😉
It’s true. They always do the heavy lifting 😹
Jason really edits his videos to appear less angry.
He uses an “anger reduction” filter 😂
Uh oh. You left your hot air balloon at Kevin's.
Dang! I was wondering where it was! 😜😂
Any chance we can get the table dimensions? Beautifully done!
I don't remember all the specifics, but the frame is 10 feet long and 5-1/2" high. The deck is about 2-3/4" thick x 9 feet long 18" wide. I do remember it was over $4000 in materials! LOL.
Hi Keith,
I was curious, what kind of over ear protection are you wearing, and would you recommend them or not? Also, in a previous video I noticed a holder on your bench for your sanders. Do you have any links for these as well? As always, great work, and thanks for the tips, especially the snipe elimination legs for the planer 😎
Thanks so much, Lacie! These are the ear muffs I wear: amzn.to/3G0HAu5 and here is a link to the 3D printed sander holders from RAB Tools: www.etsy.com/listing/1140528056/sandrack-by-rab-tools-a-thought-out?click_key=d1b30358e8db32c9218d6ce4d9fec34ddd06dfa6%3A1140528056&click_sum=d6da3fc8&ga_search_query=festool%2Bsander&ref=shop_items_search_1&pro=1&frs=1&variation1=2444685641&variation0=2422471075
I believed you up until when you claimed you rode your bike. That clearly wasn’t you. 😂
Stunt double 🤣
Nice work. Are you from Pa?
Been to Willard Bros years ago and lived in Bucks county. Thinking your in the area somewhere near there, if you sold to a client in Philly?
Thanks man! I’m in NJ.
you should put some castrs on that thicknesser cart
Those are casters 😂
interesting that you had to work that way, does anyone near you have a large planer and widebelt sander?
Yes, but then it’s traveling to yet another shop.
What countersink drill bits did you use for the table legs?
Festool countersink
What grey work pants are those when you went at the cat with the shop vac?
Truewerk T2: amzn.to/3VJvj1R
Nice anti snipe tip!
Thanks man! Glad it was helpful 👍🏻
I now know that there's at least 1 nice thing in Philly.
😬😂
I'd easily pay $100 for some plans for this
Unfortunately, no plans. It just costs too much much money upfront with no guarantee of recouping costs.
Same definitely want plans.
what happened to the playing surface finish at the end there? was it the lighting or had it begun to fail?
Office lighting.
Neat. What happened to the printed logo that you mentioned putting clear epoxy over? Did the client want the logo circle to be oriented that particular way? It almost seems like red part of the circle should face one end and blue the other end, like dividing the table up into zones. Did you have those discussions with the client?
Yes, everything was discussed and decided with the client.
Why not use contact adhesive for putting on the carpet? Also whoever owns that Laguna CNC they need to tram the cutter as it looked like it was out just a touch.
Because it’s toxic, flammable, bleeds through canvas, it was 50 degrees in there and and you need proper ventilation or you will smell the fumes for a week. And feel free to reach out to True Trade Carpentry with your CNC suggestion.
I love shuffleboard and what an amazing build!
How do you price something like this? I ask because things DIDN'T go according to plan and you had to redo different things a few times. Did you factor that in? Did it reduce your profit?
Thanks Beau! It’s impossible to predict problems or material issues when you originally price a job. There’s always a little fluff factor in there, but It’s impossible to account for everything. If your price is solid upfront, then a few little issues shouldn’t have a huge impact.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking appreciate the thoughtful response!
@@BeauChampion You bet!
Great build as always!!! Anything you’d do differently?
Thanks! Hmmm…aside from the rug under the canvas snafu, I think I would do it the same. Great question, though!
I assume the cats know better than to play with that exposed table saw blade.
Yes, they are quite aware
Woah a Jason length video
And that was from over 12 hours of footage! 😂
I always assumed there needed to be some sort of hard finish on shuffleboards.
Rubio is a hard wax oil and then you spread micro beads of wax for the pucks to glide over
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking thanks for the clarification. I guess it's time for me to give monocoat a try.
Beautiful shuffleboard.
your jointer/planer.. what’s the make and model?
Hammer A3-31
hmm, did you make the shuffleboard totally flat on top? Isn't supposed to be a bit concave?
There are no rules about that. Client wanted it flat.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Okay, I was just wondering if I had missed something. Very nice table
Shout out to Beth!!! How'd you like the new location? Quite a downgrade.
Hey Chad! Yeah, it’s small, but cozy! 😜
