- Modern-ish [ LIVE EDGE ] Walnut Dining Table
It’s no secret...I love walnut. In this video, I take a beautiful live edge walnut slab that was air dried, build a slightly modern base and put it all together for a pretty unique dining table. This table was designed to fit in very specific space, so it’s narrower than a traditional dining table. At its narrowest point it measures 27” and flairs out to almost 31” at the other end. The live edge adds a unique feel and detail to the table, but doesn’t overpower the design. Are you a fan of live edge furniture? Let me know in the comments below!

Have you plans for sale on the oak dining table?
This table is exactly what I’ve been wanting to do myself. Amazing job man. It looks incredible!
Thanks a ton, Matt!! Had a lot of fun building this one!
The commentary is quickly making this guy my favorite youtube woodworker! I'm not gonna lie about it
Thanks so much! I greatly appreciate that. New video drops this Saturday 2/27!
Wow! Your work is simply spectacular! You can see the mastery acquired through years of experience. Seeing your work is mesmerizing. The beauty of the wood grain when discovered with the final finish is glamorous. Congratulations on this beautiful table! Greetings from Argentina, South America!
Wow, thank you! You are very kind, Juan!! I super appreciate the comment. Cheers!!
You are the most respectful carpenter that I ever seen

This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
Just the table. I don't build chairs.

Thanks bro!! I just about maxed out my shop with this table and it’s only 1/4 of the size of the furniture you build! 😜👊🏻
Keith, this is crazy good! You're top man!
Thank you Adrian! That means so much from you 🙏😊
instablaster.
To put it simply... THAT is a beautiful table! Well done!👍👏👏👏
Thank you sir!! I have to give most of the credit to the walnut, though. LOL.

That’s an incredible build. Way beyond my ability. I haven’t seen buttons used in years. But it’s the correct way to go.
Thanks a lot Mike! And I love the buttons! 👍
Awesome work! Like!
Thank you very much!! 🙌🏻
Beautiful built. Great commentary and excellent woodworking skills. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
lovely result, really like this kind of solid wood table, minimalist.. what is the function of C steel under the table?
Thank you!! The c-channel helps keep the table top flat and hopefully prevent it from warping/cupping through seasonal humidity and moisture changes.
CAM 😊 I have just began my endeavors to make amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing your journey.
You're so welcome!
Simply: Outstanding! (And nice to see, you are human as well and make mistakes ;) )
Oh yes, plenty of mistakes. I just usually don't catch them on camera. LOL.
Lots of details in this build. Great work Keith.
Thanks Greg! I was sad to see that one leave the shop!
I've never made a mistacke in my life.
Kudos to you my man!! 😜👊
Keith, wow man...wow! That table is something special for sure. Amazing artistry 👍

Beautiful design once again ! Love how you even made your own buttons. Definitely adds to the beauty of the table. Big fan, take care!
Thank you very much! I appreciate that. 🙏👊
Et voilà!!! another magnificent achievement. Bravo
Thank you!!! 🙏🏻😁
The internal debate of "should I follow another woodworker?" was raging in my head, and then I saw Jerry and Lola. Shop cats AND humor while I watch beautiful furniture being made? SOLD!
🤣 Well, I’m glad my little feline friends were able to sway your vote! They can be quite persuasive 😺. Thanks for watching and the sub!! 🙌🏻
Wow! Certainly a level of perfection to aspire to. (Still learning to refine my joints...mistakes are such a good teacher!!!) I Look forward to move up from pine and poplar to fine hardwood...thanks so much for the inspiration.
You are so welcome!! I think you'll realize how much easier and more forgiving hardwoods can be. And satisfying 😉
My very first attempt to learn a trade was woodworking, but it drove me down because I ended up in mass production. I just didnt have the skills and patience. Its great to see someone who loves the trade and has mastered it. What I hated doing I could watch for hours on end :)
Thanks Peter!! Yeah, I would fail quickly if i had to make the same thing over and over. Variety is the only thing that really keeps me going.
Beautiful build. Your putting out the best woodworking videos right now. Love your content, craftsmanship and entertainment value
Wow!! Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. It is greatly appreciated.
Your accuracy in the work is extraordinary!!!
Thank you very much!
Finally!!! A video with 12,000 likes and not ONE dislike! Perfect video brother!
Ha! They literally took away the dislike button in videos yesterday. But thanks for the kind words!
Jerry seems to be doing all the work!
He's got that long lost feline work ethic! 😺
Pretty spectacular. Lucky client! Great work approach and capturing it on video. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching and the kind words, Neal! I really appreciate it 👊
The medallion is a great idea. A contrasting wood for the medallion might look cool too. Thanks for the video ! Well done!
Thank you! Cheers!
That’s looks amazing brother!! Your explanations are on another level. Not a lot of people can explain that good!
Well done
Wow! Thanks Philipp! I always struggle with over-explaining vs. under-explaining, so I greatly appreciate the feedback!
Beautiful job! 10 points for using the tight setting on all of the dominos! I’m never that brave.
Haha. Thanks! You can always sand the Dominos if you need a little more wiggle room.
wow! thats one of the most complex woodworking videos ive seen! cool skills!
Wow, thanks!
I love the glamour shots! :-) Very good job, thanks for sharing!💜

Awesome. Great channel. A lot harder than you make it look but love your commentary and making videos that are fun as well as interesting to watch
I appreciate that! Yeah, the video edit always makes it look much easier than it is when you condense 30-40 hours of work down into 10 minutes. 😂
The quality of this table is outstanding! Congratz!
Thank you very much!! Super appreciate that!!

I found your channel a week ago, watched everything, very fun and entertaining. Love the humor
That's great! Thank you!
👍
Incredible result, you made a wonderful job as always! Great walnut too. Il love your attention to the details, your sense of humor and the editing (we can see all the steps of the build without useless -in my mind- slow motion or whatever), this kind of video format is nice to me. I like to use Rubio too, quite easy to use for an hobby woodworker like me, quick and very great looking. Thanks for sharing your art, greetings from France!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!! And yes, Rubio is very user friendly and produces a great, long lasting finish. Cheers!

Holy guacamole! That’s a fantastic table!
LOL! Thanks so much! And that's exactly what this table needs...a giant bowl of guacomole...😜
Excellent. Your videography is so clear, impressive as well. Thanks. 🇦🇺👴🏻
Thank you very much! iPhone for the win!!
Outstanding! I love your humor.
Thank you kindly! 😺
WoW, great work Keith
Thank you!! Cheers 🍻
That would be a spectacular base for a glass top table.
Yes! Great idea!
This guy is an amazing craftsman!
Thanks Pete!!
First impressions...If you care about such things. Saw the thumbnail and thought this would be one of those snobby Maloof style craftsman, but I was pleasantly surprised with the humor and solid workmanship.
Thanks so much!! I appreciate the honesty and glad you didn't regret clicking on the thumbnail! 😜
A great and beautiful work!
Thanks for the great laughs, you got a great sence of humour!
Yep - using shelack on wood before applying resin, makes a world of difference when it comes to clean up.
Wheter it is a resin table (I use shelack, let it dry completely, and a good tape on the edges before puring.
That saves a ton of work when you dont have a plainer, just doing it a hobby basis!), or instead of using glue for table legs etc.
Ads a great bond for instance to wood legs or a corner insert.
Awesome! Thanks for the tips! 🙏👊
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
Great work, and at that, a beautiful work.
Thanks, I learned the hard way that using shelack is a lot easier to get resin out of details 😂
@@fnordeon1013 Ha! We all learn the hard way the first time! LOL.
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
The first time??
Im Swedish. We have a saying - if it fails, try and try again.
Meaby I should have tried another way instead...? 🤔
You know, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th time....
@@fnordeon1013 The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. LOL. And my grandfather was born Helsingborg!
That's lots of angles. Beautiful!
Indeed!! 😂 Thanks very much!!
Very nice table my friend. Really enjoy your builds
Thank you kindly!! 🙏🏻
Beautiful Piece of Art
Thank you! Cheers!
Proud to see that you use Festool instead of Dewalt , gave you a big like on the video
Thank you! I have a couple Dewalts in the arsenal, but I rely on Festool to do the heavy lifting 😜👊
@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking Dewalt can be good for "some " things. But i perfer the Milwaukee Impact / Festool driver over any other driver as i am a proud owner over both :)

Awesome! Thank you so much!! 🙏👍
Wonderful! I wish I was as skilled as you are. Love the way you work.👍
Thank you so much 😀
Another excellent build Keith.
