The "You said you'd die for me, why won't you live for me?" line is my favorite and I've always interpreted as someone who is all about the grand gestures of love when all their partner wants is for them to be there on a day to day basis. Like they want the drama of breaking up and making up when all Lauryn wants is nightly dinners and for him to do the dishes and take out the trash.

When The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill tour came to Saint Louis my friend and I were front row center. Best seats in the house. Best concert I've been to, next to Prince of course. I wish you could hear the live version of this she did. I still sing it that way to this day.
@@cam0.680 lol. Yep. She was at the Fox Theater. Also saw the Fugees out at RiverPort if it's still called that. And saw solo Wyclef twice. Matter of fact, Lauryn signed the poster I bought after the show but I didn't bug her more than that. She was being nice but she was exhausted.
Roberta actually wasn't the original singer of that song. A 20 yr old white girl actually wrote and sang it a yr before Roberta convered it. Roberta's version blew up though.
Love your videos guys! I think the “why can’t you live for me” lyric touches on the instability of the relationship. He says he will die for her, which is very passionate and intense, but as Lauryn comes to the end of the song, she asking herself/him why can’t he just love her without the drama. She’s essentially saying it’s doesn’t need to be a “battle” in which we damage each other. Why can’t we love each other in a way that builds each other up?
Dads love for our sound is so geniune. I apprecite those that can truly appreciate the full spectrum and essence of our ability and it seems that dad is being indoctrinated into a whole new musical world.

This was an awesome album. I understand why she never made another one, and that breaks my heart. Her vocals, soul, & rhythm is outstanding. Ms. Lauryn, PLEEZ make another record ❤
The thing I love most about the song is how it just keeps getting better and better the more it goes on. Man that verse is so heavy then the chorus starts to just break you down, like you just feel it. Then the last chorus (not sure how to call it), man, that is my favorite part. its just so beautiful. Then to top it off man that guitar solo at the end. There aren't many songs that stir up that emotion in me. After listening to that song Its like my heart feels heavy almost like I did something to my wife.
Miseducation is one of my all time favorite albums from any artist. “Now the joy of my world is in Zion.” I lost a son years ago. The song Zion helped me so much in the early days coping with the loss. I stumbled upon your channel and haven’t listened to Lauryn Hill in a minute. Thanks for bringing me back brother. Cheers
My mom always played this Album on the cd player when she cleaned the house back in the day. I was just a small kid playing around the house happy as ever. She passed away at 28 when i was 9. I said on the first video I saw of this father/son duo listening to Tupac's Dear Mama that Dad was the coolest one on the planet but after hearing that Mum was playing a Fugees track I'm going to have to contend that this might possibly be the coolest family on the planet bar none. I love that they have this as their 'thing'. The grandchildren are going to be so lucky to have a Grand-dad - and Dad for that matter - to teach them about all the music they know. It's so important to find a way to connect with your children these days and this Dad has that on lock. Man, if Carlsberg made families....!
This is one of the rare albums for me where I do not skip a single track. I wore out my first copy playing it so much. I'm so stoked you reacted to this song. I hope your dad listens to the whole album. I also highly recommend her Unplugged albums. Her emotions are so raw.
For me, the “live for me” line is just as you say- you want the other person to live a good life. You want them to be happy, not feel the pain of the unhappy relationship, but also... maybe the person has habits that are harmful to themself, killing themself. You said you could die for me, but can you LIVE? Can you free yourself from the pain you are causing yourself? For me. It’s so emotional and raw.
Thats Funny That Dad Said That Lauren Hill's Voice Kind of Reminds Him Of Roberta Flack's..Because Lauren Hill Sings The Song "KILLING ME SOFTLY" by Roberta Flack...But With The Fugees..It Is A Great Version Of The Classic🔥🔥👍🏿💯💯

YES 🙌🏾!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Str8 Ate and left NO CRUMBS 🙌🏾
Top 10 for me and I’m a metal head.
Requesting this entire project and Fugees album
I’ll make it happen! Thanks for watching Bri
When The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill tour came to Saint Louis my friend and I were front row center. Best seats in the house. Best concert I've been to, next to Prince of course. I wish you could hear the live version of this she did. I still sing it that way to this day.
I’m from St.Louis too l never knew we had real talent come through the city lol
@@cam0.680 lol. Yep. She was at the Fox Theater. Also saw the Fugees out at RiverPort if it's still called that. And saw solo Wyclef twice.
Matter of fact, Lauryn signed the poster I bought after the show but I didn't bug her more than that. She was being nice but she was exhausted.
Yes. In the Lou here. I was blessed to be able to see and hear both Lauren and Prince in concert.
You guys should react to “To Zion” a song she dedicated to her son. It’s also my name ☺️ so that’d be super cool.
It’s one of my favorites!
It’s interesting that Dad picked out Roberta Flack of all names as Ms Flack was the original singer of Killing Me Softly (Fugees)
Roberta actually wasn't the original singer of that song. A 20 yr old white girl actually wrote and sang it a yr before Roberta convered it. Roberta's version blew up though.
@@blacksmith1925 No she was not. It's a folk song.
This album will always be a masterpiece. Ex factor is one of the most emotional songs ever written.
“See I know what we’ve got to do, you let go, and I’ll let go too”. The pain. 💔
Funny Laura Hill redid killing me softly from Roberta Flack!
Dads love for our sound is so geniune. I apprecite those that can truly appreciate the full spectrum and essence of our ability and it seems that dad is being indoctrinated into a whole new musical world.
Lauryn is so gorgeous and her talent supercedes that! Your Dad is such an expressive, beautiful soul! Please review the full album! Wyclef really put a through the ringer😔
Yes he did but if he didn’t WE wouldn’t have this MASTERPIECE
Y'all show really dope. I like how yall first take the culture serious and study every element of the records. I make sure I check out all your reviews. Keep up the great work fellas! I have a review request!! CAMP LO - LUCHINI and COOLIE HIGH. would be dope to see your pop's reaction to that pure hip hop!!
Luchini! Yesssssssssssss!
Dope song - Camp Lo is a must! Check out Atmosphere - fantastic lyricist!
@@cb4664 I think pops will love it!
@@nimabedi absolutely!!! its like they totally skipped over one of the most important songs in hip hop history with that lol
Whhhoooaaaa!!!! Take my breath away I haven't heard those songs in too long....
Now I want you to play India Arie “Ready For Love”. Or really anything off that first album.
Beautiful track
Yes!!!! I love this song.. her vocals are so beautiful.
Yes please!🙌🏽
This album is the album that has affected me most. Listening to her lyrics and delivery, it made me certain I wanted to write poems. Lauryn Hill and Inger Hagerup is the two that has influenzed my style of writing poems mostly.
She did a remake of Killing me Softly by Reberta Flack on that same album.
And then she also married one of Bob Marley's sons.
I just saw her this weekend live in Vegas.... she's just as beautiful in person. Great album even greater artist/emcee/singer 👑
Was she late😝?
@@kimakotrotman6860 😂😂 nahh she was actually on time
You’re dad is on the money. Roberta Flack sung killing me softly , and the Fugees covered that song as well. Her tone is reminiscent of Roberta Flacks in a way. Lauryn hill’s voice is extra saucy ! ❤️her music
I just realised why I love you guys and what resonates with me so deeply...It's a relationship between a father and son who engage and seek understanding of each other through music.
I love this channel because it communicates a deep need in me that I wish I had experienced such an open and honest relationship with my own father. I know it would have healed and made me whole in a lot of ways.
The way you both listen to the music with more than just your ears and then engage in such open, organic dialogue just brings a big ol' smile to my face. I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Please keep 'em coming!🎊🎉
"Love is not rational". I love it, that makes so many things make sense. Brilliant!!!
🥺 dad was getting teary again! He must be protected! Lol.. Great analysis of the songs. You can tell you and your dad are fans of music.
We need more Lupe Fiasco reaction videos. Honestly the whole The Cool album.
And Kanye! Original Kanye - College Dropout Kanye. (All Falls Down)
Tribe Called Quest - low End theory album
(Oh and Afrobeats, at some point 🙃 - Tems - Free Mind, Wizkid - Essence, PAMI some Burna Boy too)
This song is soooo spiritually inclined. Like ON SOME TWIN FLAME STUFF. STRONG KARMIC SOUL TIE. I FELT EVERY BIT OF THIS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND TIL THIS DAY, IT STILL HAS THE SAME EFFECT. SHE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS! 🙌🏿🙌🏿💪🏿💪🏿🔥🔥💎💎💜💜
Lauren Hill is one of the greatest female artists of our time IMO and the song choice you made to review was a good one. I truly like how you both really get into the messages being related within the music from the artist. I can tell you both are true music connoisseurs of deep content and artistry. Another great introspective review from you guys. Looking forward to the next one. 🙏🏾💯💪🏾🎯🙌🏾👍🏾
One of the greatest artists period male or female IMO.
@@cb4664 That goes without saying
@@cb4664 I Strongly disagree…i get it you like Lauren…But 1 of the Greatest Artists NO! I can name 5 better just off the top of my head Not Debatable Michael Jackson Prince James Brown.. Being among them ! To say that an put her on there level an that is Blasphemy
I love EX-FACTOR. Definitely one of my favorites off the album. My other favorites are TELL HIM, WHEN IT HURTS SO BAD, and FINAL HOUR.
The entire album should be reviewed..this is a masterpiece. This track brings back so many memories.
It's the melancholy in Lauren's voice, that is similar to Roberta Flack. I love this song. ❤
This is a classic album. I love the choice of songs/albums on this channel. You guys are doing choosing great music that many of the other channels don’t. Looking forward to this one.
My dad until this day owns a bunch of albums and still has his turn tables. I really enjoy watching you and your dad listen to music. It brings back memories of me watching my dad DJ at the house. Plus your dad's reactions are so genuine. Keep up the good work guys. This is my favorite Lauryn song as well.
I think the guitar insert was hint at Wyclef from The Fugees who is a guitarist and the person she is singing about... 💔
Fun Fact. Lauryn was also in Sister Act two and her vocals shine there too. Just beautiful 🥰😍
Please have your dad listen to “To Zion” by Lauryn Hill. I’d LOVE to see his reaction and hear his thoughts on it.
Why am I crying?
The way he dissects and savors these songs/artists that are iconic and rooted in black culture and experiences is exquisite! Great conversation guys ❤️
She covered Frankie Valli ‘s - Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.
I’m not sure if y’all have already discussed this but you and your dad should watch Sister act. if you don’t know why you’ll understand when you see it. You’re welcome LOL I love your chemistry.
This whole album deserves a listen!
I'm repeating what others have said, but you all need to check out Lauryn's version of Killing Me Softly.
This was an awesome album. I understand why she never made another one, and that breaks my heart. Her vocals, soul, & rhythm is outstanding. Ms. Lauryn, PLEEZ make another record ❤
I love dad. He's such a cool cat.❤💯
Neo Soul is full of raw emotion and passion ❤ My fav genre
The thing I love most about the song is how it just keeps getting better and better the more it goes on. Man that verse is so heavy then the chorus starts to just break you down, like you just feel it. Then the last chorus (not sure how to call it), man, that is my favorite part. its just so beautiful. Then to top it off man that guitar solo at the end. There aren't many songs that stir up that emotion in me. After listening to that song Its like my heart feels heavy almost like I did something to my wife.
Your dad is deep. He got soul ❤
Cheers
Thanks for stopping by. Hoping things are good with you now.
My mom always played this Album on the cd player when she cleaned the house back in the day. I was just a small kid playing around the house happy as ever. She passed away at 28 when i was 9. I am now 28 almost 29. I cried relistening the album with you guys. Good to hear people also enjoy the songs i thought were pure nostalgic for me. Bless you guys.
This album is a 5 stars ! Every song is perfection and it’s rare enough to say it. Why not listening to Lost One next?!
This is such a sweet comment 🥺 thank you for your kind words! Glad to have you along with our musical journey! - Kai
I love this song so much, legendary as a sample and on its own
This is one of the rare albums for me where I do not skip a single track.
Your Dad is amazing. I appreciate him for opening his mind up to listen to great music that raised many.
*Lauryn
I just absolutely applaud your choice in music and I adore your dad and his openess and willingness to listen to great hip hop classics. Love your channel ❤️
That's a 5 GRAMMY album 🥇
Lauryn is one of one! This album has no skips! I gifted it to my daughter when she turned 18…she still listens to it regularly (on Spotify of course 😂). IMO one of the greatest albums ever made! Respected the same as Stevie’s The Key Of Life…🔥react!!
This album is indeed a work of art. Lauryn put her heart and soul into it. I love Dad's perspective. He's a very thoughtful listener. I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and I look forward to future videos.
Her music is amazing she’s iconic just because of this album right here. I just want to say I never listened to this song like I did today, every word meant something and I didn’t even look at it like that all this time. Such a great reaction I love that you guys learn off each other and really pay attention to the words and the actual music the sounds and things like that. Great reaction
With as much as Lauren put into this album emotionally it’s no wonder she didn’t make another one. She pour it all out on this album. Queen of hip hop
I so love and appreciate that you are ranking some of top of the top music, and with your dad,,,PRICELESS
9:35 your dad was definitely about to mention Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack. Perfect time to hit him with the Lauryn’s incredible cover of that song. A classic in its own right. It will blow him away.
It is coming up! Stay tuned :) - dad
@@frontroom 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!!
I’m so in love with both of you! How your dad describes the music gives me an appreciation of music I listen to all my life. Even the conversation around the lyrics…just beautiful. Thank you ☺️
Wow, thank you! (dad)
The excitement in your eyes when u introduce your dad to a song u know n love & his openness n joy to hear it is beautiful. Respect.❤
Lauryn Hill is a legendary vocalist. Among the very best of the best. This whole album was 🔥
This of many is such a beautiful song. The bitter-sweet is what makes it have such and ebb and flow. I love listening to you both talk about it...it really brings me joy to see the interaction of an actual conversation between you two!! Great job to you both!
Makes me tear up every time when I listen to this song.
So much nostalgia
This song PERFECTLY illustrated a relationship that I was in many years ago. It always kills me and reminds me of that time every time I hear it.
