- I take my 2008 Audi R8 V8 back to Garage Auto Sports to see how much power we are making after a stage 2 tune and custom exhaust. This 2008 Audi R8 makes 420hp and 320lb-ft stock, and with the tune and exhaust on our best run, we hit a blistering, eye-popping 516HP and 404lb-ft of torque! Not only is it making much more power, but it also sounds like a true demon 👹

I don't think you read that screen right once. Had me rolling. I went through the ECU tune and have mine straight pipped since we last talked. Thing is a monster.

That's really good imo. 💯👌🏾 I'm planning on getting an R8 V8 in a couple years and tune it stage 2 of course so it really makes the difference. That's my last thing to get on my bucket list.

Wow what an insane power increase from a tune! How does it feel when driving? Also, I am about to ceramic coat my IS250 and I was curious on in 10 years or so, would I have to buff all the old ceramic coating off when applying a new layer?
Throttle response is much crisper and obviously the power increase is enough to definitely feel it across the rev range. The ceramic coating will come off after 2 to 3 years, most likely, depending on which one you got so none of that will be required 👍
Amazing figures man, was it a custom tune? Because the max i can see online is 465hp stage 2, great car, im picking up mine in 10 days in white

They do take out the ECU to program. Thanks man I’m really happy with not only the numbers but the responsiveness of the car!

On the TH-cam front, would love it if you felt like doing a video showing how you film stuff inside the car. Kind of a behind the scenes look at your setup and how you film for that. I assume it's go pros? And if you do any recording w/ camera's attached to the outside, how you do that w/out damaging paint/exterior of car. Even for the audio, any tricks to picking up engine sounds the best.
Don't know if people would enjoy that, but i think while there's quite a bit of content on 'general youtube' advice, i haven't have as much related specifically to filming for automotive content (and POV inside car).
Either way, love how you keep taking us behind the scenes when you take your R8 to Garage Auto Sports. Thanks for taking the time to do that!
I could definitely do it behind the scenes look at my set ups and everything. I actually link all of my camera gear in the description box below as well. It’s GoPro and my Sony A7C mixed with drone footage etc. I got a gimbal and more as well. I have added this video to the list :-)
In all fairness was it not more then just a tune? You also added all new custom exhaust plus new injectors and plugs so you had an amazing starting point and had not tuned anything since install correct?

Fairpoint you are right, so this is probably the best that I could ever hope to get out of this engine especially considering the age but I did do all of the maintenance just before this and the exhaust is another factor of course. Yes, the original mapping was from 2008. Honestly, it’s definitely added that extra punch that some people may feel is lacking compared to supercars of today. Obviously, you’re still have to wind out this engine to get all the power but damn let me tell you the exhaust sound really adds to the experience and the feeling of that power rushing. Love it.
The "full exhaust change" means all 4 catalysator are removed...thats is to say in averrage a gain of between 20 to 25hp...
If you have done the maintainance on time, and a carboncleaning...plus the ecu remap, it can easily match with real 470hp

Really that was the best run so more like 460-470ish with the other runs but still impressive.
Are the figures correct seems extraordinarily high maybe there dyno is +15% try on a random dyno to check figures that’s super impressive never seen a 4.2 v8 produce this before my supercharged rs4 only got 538 bhp😂. Love you videos on the hunt for a v8 r8 right now 👍👍
Well this was the best run seems like a one off but the other runs are pretty much expected for a tune and exhaust! What year you looking for? Pre facelift?

Does the R8 really have 20% power loss through the drivetrain? I'd didn't think the drivetrain had that much loss. RWD conversion incoming haha
My guess probably 15-18% but let’s just say 20% so haters don’t try to poo poo on the numbers haha
Don't think I was hating, just surprised it was that much parasitic drivetrain loss. Ngl after I watched this I tracked down stock dyno pulls. It really is like 18ish%. Gotta figure it's still making 480 to 500 crank which is nothing to scoff at. Set of intakes and a reflash and you'll definitely be over 500 with zero questions.

Those numbers don’t look right at all. They are definitely much higher then normal. Try another dyno mate. That engine can gain 20-40hp max with a tune and exhaust
