Now at the end of 2024, it is still in my posession, with 20,000 miles. Totally dealer maintained, with annual services performed. Two major fixes were replacing the high pressure fuel pumps, and last year replacing the magneto shocks with BC Coil Overs. I can never see myself selling this car. There are plenty that are faster, louder, etc., but nothing...........nothing drives like the R8. And as you have said, it is an absolute stunner, with timeless design.

Yo man love this review, and love the R8. I remember when I first saw the R8 years ago it was the craziest and coolest supercar I've very seen. Now fast forward, I honestly take more looks at an R8 V8 than a lot of supercars that I see. Definitely my dream car, can't wait to own one soon, hopefully my next car. I'll take it in either an Auto or Manual doesn't matter at this point. Life is too short to wait. And when I DO get one, I plan on keeping it forever.
That’s awesome man and I completely agree with you. 100,000% life is way too short, I pray that you can get your dream car either auto or manual and enjoy it :) I’ll keep sharing my journey as well 🙏😎
I personally felt in love for this car when I first saw it in Ironman movie ... Now, my dream has come to reality. R8 V8 owner for one year now... I just changed the exhaust and a pair of K&N filters... It's now Perfect to me...A real pleasure to drive it and even just to have a look at it ☺... I hope to enjoy and keep it forever. My best advice: Take your time... Find yourself the R8 which is related to your personality.... You will enjoy everytime
Man i was excited to see you just put this new video out about your R8 experience, wow, loved it!! That was super encouraging that in 5 years, only had one issue that affected reliability. But otherwise, been problem free, that's awesome. Appreciate the tip about Ethynol gas, didn't know about that one yet, thank you!! I didn't even realize that was an option to buy gas that way, lol :D One question i had is if your hand ever gets worn from grated texture on the shift knob. I just watched a video yesterday and it was the first time i heard someone mention that. He said after driving the car for a while, the shift nob will start to feel uncomfortable b/c of how that grated metal texture starts to rub against his hand. So i was curious if you've had that experience yourself or heard of anyone experiencing that? Again, great video, thank you!!
Yea only She’ll has ethanol free gas in 91. No that’s crazy it’s not like you are using lifting weights, he must have hands softer than butter. My hands are soft and the shifter does nothing to them.
I love this generation of R8. Truly analogue experience, especially with the gated manual. Regarding maintenance, I recall reading about an issue with the aluminium sub frame cracking on these cars. Have you heard about that? As far as ethanol free gas, since I also live in your neck of the woods I gas up at Canadian Tire station. They have ethanol free 91. Enjoy the car. Cheers!
Yes about the subframe but it is really rare. I did a video showing how you can investigate this on your own: th-cam.com/video/3yzNBwhAXGI/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the tip on the gas :)
I hope you can keep this car for a long time. It's a jewel, a breed that pretty much is gone. Now, I understand the gear box is the major point of failure (both manual and automatic). It's an unit manufactured by an Italian company called Graziano, and apparently around 150 thousand Kms it will give up. Yet, I definitely, this is a car I would own for sure, this specific V8 with 6-speed manual.
Thanks my friend. Where did you get information about the gearbox on the manual failing? Thanks for the company information I’m going to look into them now actually!
I was doing a research on R8 and no other channel provided this much information. Loved it. Looking forward to own a R8 soon. Keep it up. You made us believe that we can also own it.

Look, I think the auto is great as it does give you a sense of the shifting being a single stage clutch for the R tronic, but make no mistake. You should be picking up the 6 feet gated manual transmission at any opportunity you can over the automatic.
@@carswithsonduren I appreciate your feedback! I was just about to pick up a nice v8, but it was an R tronic. theres another 6 speed for 10k more that I may have to spend. Keep up the great content.

Hey guys. I'm not car savvy but I love this car so much..I'm just concerned about major repairs say a used one with say 30k mileage. Any advice? Will the Ac compressor give out soon?

I made a series of videos you should watch that go over the main critical things you need to look at when buying this vehicle. Check it out and I’ll continue to share my experience so be sure to subscribe!
The hydraulic motor mounts fail at about 60k.. Cost me 7k to install new motor mounts in my 08 R8. Save for your motor mounts...so when it comes time you have the funds.
For some time I've been dreaming about owning a R8 V8. Seeing you drive down the same roads I like to hit up in Burlington and then see you ride past our home, it really hit me lol. Trying to convince the wife that the Mk1 TT needs its a bigger brother lol... One day... Thanks for sharing your experience!
What I will say Mark, that life is short. If it’s financially within your means to do so, and it brings you joy and happiness. Why not do it? It’s extremely reliable, and that worst case it holds its value and you can sell it. Hopefully some of my videos can convince you to take the plunge :-) hopefully I’ll see you around in the summer during one of the meet ups I will be hosting!
I Found one with a clean titel and 62k miles on it 2008 automatic, asking price is 30k usd, should I get it ? Or maintaining it would be nightmare ? Plus all the cash I have is about 40 thousand dollars
2008 audi r8 motor mounts went out. They are hydraulic and costs $7,000 to replace... Cats started to fail so i had to hollow them out and add a stage 2 tune for another $3,000. So if you uave an R8.... Best to prepare for motor mount failure every 60 to 80k miles
Honestly, i love the design of the first gen R8 better than its successors. It's a nice mix of supercar style and vintage style, imo. First time i saw it, the grille reminded me of the grille of cars from the 1930s-40s. The newer models have strayed from this design, and lost the smooth and flowing look of the first gen in favor of a more aggressive style with the sharp edges and shapes. I personally wasn't a fan of the newer R8.
Hey man, thanks for the cool video. I have a question. I know many r8 mk1 owners prefers the manual. I am considering buying the mk1 R-tronic (s-tronic is barely for sale in the eu). I live in a big city and don’t enjoy long distances in traffic with a manual car. Did you ever try the r-tronic and what are your thoughts on it since many people are negative about it?
Thanks Nasser :) I have driven the R tronic, it’s not bad. It’s more rough shifting but I actually enjoy that it adds to the experience. Yes it’s not the fastest and won’t set records but it adds to the visceral experience. They are also very reliable, I wouldn’t hesitate to make a purchase decision on a clean rtronic example.
R8 is my favorite car to put in garage lol 😂 but mk2 tt vr6 is the one I put the miles on and the gti mk7 and mk8 drives just as good with less sound but saves you on gas ⛽️ 😊
You are lucky there are so HQ roads in your country to enable daily driving of lowered sportscar. Here where I am even SUVs struggle with deph of potholes in town...I can see cars like yours end up seriously damaged very often...+front lips are brushed to destruction by speed humps....I would have to instal 2 inch lift kit + 5" lifting hydroshocks on mine to keep it running...would be allroad R8 in the end..hahaha...
@@carswithsonduren Eastern EU...here is construction industry corrupted completely ....asphalt material is so short-changed that even completely renewed highways break within 3 years....
Is the V8 different to the V10 in terms of fuel consumption? Comparing manual and DSG? Also are there differences in overall maintenance cost (except tax and insurance)? I can’t decide between them, the v10 is definitely the car with the “supercar” performance but I’m no racetrack driver so the v8 should be enough for the street. But then, will I regret not buying the v10 😅
I love these, but i feel the fact it basically has an TT interior lets it down... I have MK2 TT, and alot of the interior pieces are taken from that (or vice versa)
Experience is probably really very nice and cool, but the power.. pedal to metal from 70-110 kph took forever from 4k rpm. Even if I compare to my 2012 supercharged 400hp S4. That explains why I could easily keep up with an R8 on a mountain passes. May be 5.2L makes more sense. This car wont cut it in terms of feeling "supercarly" after hoping from a 500+ twinturbo engine saloon.

The hydraulic motor mounts fail at about 60k.. Cost me 7k to install new motor mounts in my 08 R8.
Save for your motor mounts...so when it comes time you have the funds.
Your car is so Beautiful🔥 I will buy an R8 soon a 2008
Thanks man and welcome to the channel a lot more great R8 videos for you to check out! Keep driving towards your goal and you’ll get one as well!
Hopefully some of my videos can convince you to take the plunge :-) hopefully I’ll see you around in the summer during one of the meet ups I will be hosting!
love the R8, while in Asian big city, the low clearance really is a problem, the speed bump and underground parking ramp is nightmare.
Didn’t know that, that’s unfortunate:(
I Found one with a clean titel and 62k miles on it 2008 automatic, asking price is 30k usd, should I get it ? Or maintaining it would be nightmare ? Plus all the cash I have is about 40 thousand dollars
Do you have the link for it?
Its in arabic because I'm from Saudi Arabia but I'll share the link
Awesome share it with me anyway I can ask my dad to help me read it :) Welcome to the channel!
Totally agree my man.
How much are your oil changes ?
About $200
Hey man, thanks for the cool video.
Dream Car
It really is :)
Awesome video. Question are you still on the original clutch?
Thanks man and yes fully original clutch still 🙏
My 08 R8 is at 68k and still on original clutch.
R8 is my favorite car to put in garage lol 😂 but mk2 tt vr6 is the one I put the miles on and the gti mk7 and mk8 drives just as good with less sound but saves you on gas ⛽️ 😊
Oooo MK2 TT is very nice. Congratulations on the awesome lineup of vehicles Eddie 🙏
STILL the best looking car ever (08 specifically)
Couldn’t agree more 15 years later!
Can you tell me about the Bluetooth adapter? I have 2011
Just Amazon any Bluetooth to Aux adapter they all work the same!
Damn, where are you located out of curiosity?!
@@carswithsonduren Eastern EU...here is construction industry corrupted completely ....asphalt material is so short-changed that even completely renewed highways break within 3 years....
Damn. Corruption and greed ruins it all for everyone.
Can you send the link to the iPhone holder and Bluetooth link? Thanks

@@carswithsonduren Thanks!
Beautiful car! Gives me baby nsx vibes lol Probably never be able to afford one of these sadly but i can dream.
Keep dreaming. Everyone can do it. I believe in you :)
Great looking motor. But my god you take your hands off the wheel far too often... Driving past pedestrians too. Need to work on that.
Thanks dude I will keep them glued on!
How is the fit for a bigger person. 280ish pounds?
Possible but very very very tight and not comfortable
That is a shame. Thank you for the quick reply
should i wait until next year to buy one?
Yes. Market is coming down a bit now for all cars including the R8.
Which gas stations do you go?
Shell with 0 Ethanol
@@carswithsonduren thanks! Wish I would acquire a gen 1 R8 one day
One day you will. I’m rooting for you brother!
Timely upload!
Someone is lurking R8 listings 👀
@@carswithsonduren guilty lol
😂😎 I know this feeling well haha
Is the V8 different to the V10 in terms of fuel consumption? Comparing manual and DSG? Also are there differences in overall maintenance cost (except tax and insurance)? I can’t decide between them, the v10 is definitely the car with the “supercar” performance but I’m no racetrack driver so the v8 should be enough for the street. But then, will I regret not buying the v10 😅
Hey I made a video just on this topic I think answers all your questions :) th-cam.com/video/8iL8sGwJNas/w-d-xo.html
I can get 22MPG on the interstate to 9 MPG rolling hard 2011 v10
I love these, but i feel the fact it basically has an TT interior lets it down... I have MK2 TT, and alot of the interior pieces are taken from that (or vice versa)
That’s true they definitely use some parts bin items across the VW lineup but I still think it’s put together well but I agree.
Every other supercar would be much more expensive to maintain.
I want one. But I got a wife and two kids😂😂
Worried about the dreaded Carbon Build Up
Just get a walnut blasting done and it won’t be a problem.
@@carswithsonduren gotcha, I own a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Sport Carbon (long name) and it’s been constantly giving me issues, I just dropped 4k on a new sun roof and I’m looking to either upgrade and get a new toy or just keep tossing money into the pit
@masteroogway8254 I heard they are super prone with issues :( Sad to hear
Not supposed to be using any ethanol? Bro wtf are you talking about
Problem with Audi R8s they don’t hold value its not a Ferrari. Basically looks like a TT on the interior.
I bought mine 5 years ago now and the value is up roughly 20% so it’s not only been holding value but slowly increasing.
change to fourth lol please
It likes the high rpm’s
R8 V8 isn't a supercar lil bro.
You are one of the reasons that im still keeping my R8!! Unfortunately, I recently burnt my passenger side ECU 🥲 Do you think jumping the car's battery was the cause?
Oh no :( are you certain it is fried? What are the codes? Did it happen right after you jumped it?
@@carswithsonduren No codes shown. It just stated no communication to control module, thus, i was certain damaged ECU. Brought to nearest workshop and opened it and confirmed it was literally burnt on the capacitor area :(
@@carswithsonduren it was happened one day after I jumped it. For those who has the same model, I really recommend not to jump it unless using a proper battery charger :)
Damn :( you can get them fixed and it could be cheaper than buying new FYI. Check the R8 talk forum.
Do you have any interest in driving and reviewing my 2014 Nissan GTR?
I’d love to maybe sometime in the fall :)?
@@carswithsonduren Fall, or spring, I've emailed your linked email account. I'd like to see this happen at some point. I'm in Kingston Ont.
