Really helpful little video, many thanks. My washing machine has been migrating across the kitchen each time I use it and your explanation about the knocking sound nailed it
I dip in, from time-to-time, to these very useful eSpares videos and find them so educational. It's great to learn and gain some knowledge about the mechanics of our domestic utilitarian devices we use in our homes everyday that we take for granted. Many thanks.
This sounds like our problem. Thank you. We have that model & the dryer stacked on top. It's way to heavy to deal with as we have back issues. Thanks to you, I think we have an idea of how to instruct a repair person. Thanks again. Have a happy Resurrection Day.
Hi Matt This video is very useful for me thank u for the suggestion We have checked the balance several times couldn't figure out the prblm. And now u gave us a solution
Even though 2 years old,the video was the perfect answer i was looking for.Had an unbalanced load issue.Looking for how to perfectly load the washer.Thank you for this video.
Such a common problem that is not explained well in most instruction books. Thanks for the comments, remember to 'like’ the video if you enjoyed it or it helped.👍
Nice vid, I have a Defy front loader that when rising is done it knocks back and forth and too much weight can really make the drum bang back and forth. Could this be the shock absorbers?
Thank you so much this is super helpful and hopefully it's what is actually wrong with my machine. Sounds like the concrete weight has shifted a little from what I've seen here. I've spent £200 already with zero repair & what seems like a wrong diagnosis & told to buy another machine. Its a miele 4 years old! Time we had a look ourselves instead of chucking the machine.
Hi Matt! Thank you for this very informative video! I have the following problem with my 9 years old Candy washing machine. At the full speed it is spinning normally with some vibrations like yours is at 2:00 but when spinning is slowing down, near the end of a cycle, shaking starts so I usually have to press it down with my hands to stabilize it. Do you know what could be the cause? I adjusted the feet on the machine and made sure it is leveled.
Matt. I have also seen washing machines shake when all the legs are screwed out to the max. This caused a waving effect in the motion of the washing machine. All I did was screw the legs in to the min and level the machine out - like you mentioned. Another good video from #eparts Thx
We have the same problem in our machine. The servicemen said to replace the damper. Should I replace it or simply tightening the screws and balancing the load will do good? please reply sir.
Hi princy B, if the screw is loose it is worth tightening it to see if it works but be careful with the loads if it is causing the machine to go out of balance.
Hi Matt! I installed my Samsung front load washer a few days ago. It vibrates at the beginning of the spin cycle and stops vibrating when spinning reaches its full speed. Then it resumes vibration at the end of spin cycle when the speed drops. What can you advise? Thank you.
Hi Rustam Nasirov, make sure it is not a balance issue first, check the machine is perfectly level so it's not causing the vibration, it is a new machine or have you moved and reinstalled it?
Hi Rustam, make sure the transit bolts have been removed at the back, have you made sure it's level and if you still have a problem it is under guarantee.
@@eSparesThank you Matt for your prompt replies. The level is good, bolts are pulled out. The only problem might be that the floor is not that solid. Front two legs of the machine are placed on linoleum which might be the source of the problem, other (rear) 2 legs are on plywood floor. Perhaps I have to put a solid wooden support under the machine and see how it works.
Hi Matt, thanks for these videos - very useful. I've watched a good few other videos too, but haven't quite been able to work out if it's worn bearings on our machine or some other issue with similar symptoms. I wonder if you could help make my mind up on this... The brushes on our 3 year old Smeg washing machine have recently been replaced - in fact, the engineer changed the entire motor because we'd paid the cost within the job fee. We are heavy users of the machine (and have had many an unbalanced load in it... ooops) - and I suspect the bearings have gone this time although the repair guy on the phone today says this would be rare in a 3 year old machine. There's very little excess up and down movement with the drum and instead plenty of movement from front to back with the drum - could this still be bearings? The machine makes a rumbling sound at the back when the drum is turned, it's not as smooth a turn as it was, but nothing seems to drag it - it just seems a more eliptical turn and less centred. On a spin, the noise is like metal on metal being finely ground - it's not screechy, but it does get louder and louder and higher as the spin progresses, until it's almost like a permeating song coming from what used to be a pretty silent machine. We're just working out if it's better to call it quits with this Smeg machine if the bearings are gone or to spend almost the equivalent of a cheaper machine to have it fixed. Normally we'd have a go ourselves at changing parts, but the washing needing done is building up, we're travelling a lot with work at the mo and, although we hate throwaway mentality and fix lots of our household good ourselves, sometimes the convenience of a next day delivery new machine solves problems quickly. If I knew it was bearings I'd buy another machine. If I thought it was something simpler and cheaper to fix, we'd get the repair guy in or take a look at it ourselves. Thanks in advance.
Bearing. Classic bearing noise and that it changes pitch with speed. Just make sure there isn't anything that is in contact with the drum as it spins that could also be scrapping on the drum as it turns. (would more than likely be something foreign that isn't part of the machine that went in with a wash load. Possibly something left in a pocket)
Hi Matt could you please tell me if it's normal to have some back and forth movement in the drum ,say quarter of an inch or so ,or shouldnr there be any movement or play by hand ???
Hi Jason, depending on the machine you may get some movement and everything should be fine, if you are also getting noises then that would indicate bearings.
What are the numbers I'm looking for to get on the meter when checking the heater coil and thermistor? I saw your video but am still a tad bit confused.
Hi Rob, when checking for the resistance of any component you are looking for a reading on the meter to show continuity if a component has failed usually won't get a reading through the component. start on the lower range if the meter to start and move up the range.
thank you for the video mine very noisy though is worth looking when my husband has time, but the one i annoyed is keeps beeping during the cycle specially an extra spin programme any tips with that problem? we thought it might be the belt is a problem i been doing the maintainance cleaning to it but still keep beeping.
Hi Evangeline, you don't mention the model details but it could indicate an error code which would mean something went wrong during the wash, can you see any flashing lights, make sure you check the filter.
@@eSpares yes i check filter clean it the model of my washing machine is Hoover DXA 48W3 no flashing light it keeps beeping and lately extra spin programme when i set it did not work i keep on eye in it and waiting if they an error comes up during the cycle so i can figure out whats wrong in it.x
Does that extra weight not damage the shocks and stretch the support spring tensioners? I'm curious how you got this weight. Is it Vibrofoam, or Vibroform?
Hi Rob, it does not damage the shocks as it is tested by the manufacturer to ensure it is safe, the weight comes with the machine and is made of concrete.
My top loader LG is making very bad noisy sounds though it’s new while spinning as bad as you’ve shown what to do do you have any videos for top loader?
Same thing with balance, try first with just light loads and if this is OK be careful to load any 'heavies' so they can balance with similar weighted washing.
Hi nw8000, now that is the question so if you have made sure the machine is level then remember that each machine has a load capacity 6kg 7kg 8kg so don't overload it or under load it as both will cause issues. Different brands will spin at different speeds and cope differently with loads so don't put a bath mat in on its own and if you have a problem stop redistribute the clothes and try again.
And here's me thinking a balanced load is,making sure ya dont put more clothes to the right hand/ left hand side of the drum 😄 never gave the kgs a thought
Hi Surrey Transport And Trains, we do not have a specific video for your model but do have a video on changing the bearings which will be similar in the process so should help th-cam.com/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/w-d-xo.html
I received a brand new washing machine yeaterday and it’s meant to be really quiet, when in a spin it is so noisy and the vibrations are making the machine move? I have tried various loads of washing and it’s still the same issue?
Hi Brenda, we have a dedicated video regarding a washing machine shaking or spinning noisily that you can refer to here. Hope this helps you. th-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/w-d-xo.html
@@eSparesyeah I’ve watched this thanks, John Lewis actually plumbed it in, leveled feet etc but when on a spin it’s so noisy and vibrates that much the machine moves… just wondering if the machine has a fault?
I've just purchased a new Beko machine and OMG it walks and turned. we've have leveled the feet flat on floor but still is doing it. after watching this VDO I'll let you know as soon as possible the results 😂😂😂
Have you removed the 'transit bolts'?, these fix the drum during delivery and must be removed on installation. For more information see another video: th-cam.com/video/Leqc63H8G3Y/w-d-xo.html
I have a Hotpoint aquarius WMF760, (looks just like one on the video) that shook like no ones business, and sometimes gave an F-005 error, which I think was a short due to shaking too violently. Bought 2 new dampers for my washer. When went to replace, the original dampers had actually fractured some of the bottom of the washing machine where they affixed. In effect tearing out a hole the size of a penny washer. Fitted the new dampers with some very large washers (to cover the torn out holes), all now works fine
+Martin Stockdale Thanks for your comments Martin. If your wash load was out of balance regularly the excessive shaking would have created metal fatigue resulting in the damage. If you wash heavy items together in future not only will the machine shake less it is likely to help prevent further damage.:-)
Hi Sean Brunette, the normal reason for the machine causing a noise and shaking badly is an unbalanced load but if you have checked that then the dampers could cause a noise and affect how the machine spins.
@@eSpares Thank you for the reply. It is definitely worse with an unbalanced load. I checked and they seem to have oil or grease around them so I ordered some new ones and hope that will fix it. Also ordered some new springs just incase. Thanks again.
@@eSpares I ordered 3 new ones. They are not at all what I thought. there is major play in them. Not so much as an absorber. I took one out and realized it was just like the new ones. Then I saw there was places for 2 more. I had 3 factory but there is room for 5. I added the extra 2 replaced one and things seem way better. On the tub there is a place for 1 more but the base plate doesn't have one. I guess that the difference between a less expensive unit. Obviously the load matters but so does the cheap out on the machine. 3 VS 5.
Hello eSpares, Perhaps you can shed some light onto this for me. Will make it as brief as possible and leave out the story part: *Received free 2014 LG washer: WM3370HWA with matching gas dryer *Functioned normally *Added a little extra water up to the drain in rubber seal for large items, king bed covers *pump would remove any excess water above and beyond the program options, successfully *The FE fill error would display on the screen until the correct water level was reached then cycle continued again *Selected extra water, but it wasn't enough *Selected "warm" water temp * Water temp in tank was good for this *Used hot water inside house for cleaning, etc *Heating coil turned on and electric burning odor emitted from washer vent *Cycle finished *Sanitize option selected for next wash *Electric burning smell worsened *stopped sanitize load and switched to warm, burning smell not as severe as sanitize mode Still think it is the heater coil Questions: *Could heating coil and thermistor be caked or covered in hard water minerals? *Should this "odor" be there? *Technically, how long do thermistors and heater coils last, on average, of course? *How long do washer pumps last? *This reminds me of my hot tub that needed a new heater coil in the first 3-5 years, same symptoms and similar odors *What is the average life span of the original parts on this model machine? *Springs, shock absorbers, aka dampners, heater coil, thermistor, water pump, front washer control panel, and the main interior control panel? *There is a lot of movement in the drum for unbalanced loads. The machine will attempt 3xs to rebalance the load and spin slowly instead. Thanks ahead of time, i would add inthe story and this would take you through all the steps of what happened, but I don't think its necessary. Regards, Robert
Hi Robert, wow a lot of questions lol we will try to answer as many as we can but some will be diplomatic. The error code FE on LG machine indicates the machine has overfilled which indicates a faulty inlet valve, over time limescale can build up inside the machine and usually elements are the ones affected most. We would not expect an odour from the machine so try a washing machine cleaner to get rid of the odour. We can not comment on the lifespan of components and it varies so much it would only be an opinion and not factually accurate. We also have a video to help with the balance issue th-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/w-d-xo.html
Hi eSpares, My house is an original 1950s with a 2 wire ungrounded electric system in the original house section. Terrible wiring in the main part of the house, but the newer additions added later all have the 3 wire upgrade romex type of power cable. The washer is connected to the 2 wire system through a 3 port socket, which I didn't know about until I removed the socket cover. The only other available socket is over 5 feet away located behind the dryer. I will have to run an acceptable extension cable for this to the washer because hiring an electrician is out of the question. The Fe display only turned on when the washer added to the additional water I put in to wash the king bed covers recently. Once the correct level was reached the cycle continued and the error message went away. So im not too concerned about that part at the moment. No wonder appliance repair companies can charge so much for a visit, these machines are just so much more complicated than the ones I purchased 25 years ago..
My Machine is new, bought it in November 2023. It's a 10kg Hoover washing machine, black, H-wash 500. We moved into a different property in January 2024. Today it has decided to jump around my kitchen. Do I need a repair guy, or is it the filter? What's going on?
Hi, don't know how you got on with your bouncing machine. However, make sure the machine is level, AND the floor it's on is solid. That is so important. If on floorboards, they will flex with the weight between the floor joists, and that will make the machine bounce. Hope helps
I have the same problem but found a plastic puk shaped thing under the washing machine just a bit bigger than a 2£ coin halved in 2. But when u loosened the concrete block that's what my machine sounded like. didn't sound like bearings.
Hi eSpares. Very useful video. I tried all of these techniques. But my machine shakes like how it does without the weight tightened (but my weights are completely tightened!). I am trying to fix it .Would be so grateful if you could help me out. Thanks!
As we try and explain Anshul, the likely cause of shaking is what you are washing so next time it occurs look at the mix of heavy items. If there is any heavy items put them separately on a heavy wash with enough to spread around the drum and i should resolve your problem.
barry shanks my machine only has a weight under the the door of the drum and had came loose. didn't even know it was there till I tilted it back and pushed it and noticed it was slack. tightened it and all good. same sound as this video but the top weight was perfect. so went looking. job done. thanks.
It is often the front weight that will come loose and sometimes you may find concrete 'dust' under the machine where the movement has started to damage the weight. Keep an eye on the machine and watch the load balance to ensure it does not come loose again.
That's what happen to my machine. Very loud banging noise on spin and dust gathering underneath where the concrete block was wearing away due to the movement. Thanks to your video I've managed to fix the problem and saved me pounds.
Hi Mat, Would you by any chance know how to remove the drum from the washing machine in this video? I have a similar machine which has the suspension springs attached to a metal bar running accross the chassis. I have seen your colleague's video on how to replace washing machine bearings (that washing machine did not however feature that bar).
mikevad360 If you follow the bearing video as a guide to check you are removing all the parts necessary to remove the drum and then undo the four screws on the bar you (with the help of a friend) can use the bar to lift the drum up and out. When I have done this before I would not disconnect the dampers as they simply slide apart and once the tub is out are easier to remove and reassemble them, and then attach when fitting the tub.Note this machine (and maybe yours) has a 'welded tub' without bolts around the rim that cannot be dismantled to replace bearings.
eSpares Thanks Mat, that was very helpful, I was able to lift the drum out of the chassis and luckily the tub on this machine is not welded. I am however having some trouble taking the pulley wheel off. I have tried hammering the rod which seems to be connected to the drum but it doesn't budge. Without removing the pulley wheel I cannot separate the drum from the tub therefore making access to the bearings impossible. Do you have any suggestions for me regarding this ?
mikevad360 Start by using a releasing fluid like WD40 and if that and a sharp tap with a hammer does not move it try carefully heating the pulley with a hair dryer to help it expand and release.
Thanks again Mat, once again your advice was perfect. The lubricant did the trick and the hair dryer was not necessary. Again thank you for your help :)
great video thanks, I have the exact same washing machine that is walking down the hallway. I've checked the counterweight and levels and everything is fine. would the next step be to replace the dampers and springs? is there a way to test these before replacing? thanks!
+Phil Kocho Hi Phil, are you sure it is not a balance issue and shaking excessively see 0:47 . As a x field engineer I replaced dampers many times when previous engineers had ordered them for this problem and found less than 5% were faulty as the problem was usually the load. To stop a machine that slips on vinyl or tiles a piece of Bluetac under two feet is usually enough unless severely out of balance.
Thanks for that video.I found it extremely useful and It has solved my problem. I'd bunged everything in and the toweling dressing gown was much too heavy when soaked..It was unbalancing the load. 😊
Hi Jimmy, the machine may be balanced but if the washing load is not it will cause an UE error. Try the machine empty or with light items and it should be fine. Remember anytime you have a UE error if it is down to heavy items the evidence will be inside the drum when unloaded. This is why we produced this video to try and explain this better.
Hi, Bought the washing machine 3 months before. There was no shaking or vibrations until now, but last 2 times while the machine is in spin its shaking and vibrating too much but grinding sound is not heard. Please help. The machine was levelled properly. PLEASE help
Hi Lincy, the main reason for your washing machine to shake is because of an uneven load causing the shaking if the machine is perfectly level you need to redistribute the load and try again. Check the suspension underneath to make sure nothing has disconnected or has broken as well.
@@eSpares Hi Matt Your video helped me to understand about balanced weight. Always I used to put one heavy item with other much lighter ones because I was scared of overloading the machine. Thank you. Also thanking you for the timely reply to my query. One more question. The machine is whirlpool 6 kg fresh care. How much dry cloth ( weight) is the maximum I can put for a single time wash? Heavy items as you said I understood I have to wash together. Then what about lighter ones if I am washing lighter ones together how much total weight is accurate for the machine. Also is it alright to use dry washing powder always. The machine booklet suggest different weight for different wash mode, like rapid 30 Max3 kg, mixed Max 3.5 kg also recommend dry or liquid soap for each option. Should I consider those instructions or I can add cloth weight equally for all kinds of wash option ? PLEASE advise. Thank you.
I have an Indesit that moves across the floor. The repairer says there is nothing wrong with the washer. It is the suspended floor which is causing the machine to walk and produces a loud noise. Is he right? what can I do about it?
Hi John, It is likely there is nothing wrong with the machine especially if recently checked by an engineer. The purpose of this video is to show how heavy items in the washing can cause this problem. The larger capacity the machine and the higher the spin speed the greater the energy that has to be absorbed. Increasing the mass will help so consider placing on a concrete paving slab as it will help and try to keep heavy items together and avoid mixing light and heavy items.
My LG TROMM WM1812CW was giving me an LE error, I replaced the Drive motor sensor, bearings look ok, gear on the rotor is in good shape, I started a wash quick cycle (28 minutes) and at minute 7 just gets stuck, stay there and never finishes the cycle, so I pause the machine change the spin speed to no spin and the time goes to 1 minute and drains the water and finishes the cycle any clue of what is the issue, that you
Hi Edgar. When a machine stops while washing it is usually related to a heating problem. European machines will have a heater that you would need to check but your model (USA?) does not so must take in a hot water supply. As you have just been working on it check both water supplies are turned on first.
Found there was a big concrete block at the front of the machine under the door area attached to the drum. This was slack, so i lay it flat on its back and was able to get access to the torsion screws and tightened them. Hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks
Hi Ian, the concrete weight is used to 'dampen' movement on the spin cycle and will usually only come loose if there has been a lot of excessive shaking on spin caused by out of balanced wash loads. Following this video will help understand how to avoid this and prolong the machines life.
Tightening these bolts like is said did the trick. Works perfect now. Bet a rip off machine guy would have said summit else was busted and whipped me £150. 1 hr later and I'm fully working with a quiet machine again.
yes it did. all sorted now. machine is 6 years old but still looks like new. wasn't the top weight but the bottom one that was slack. whole house was vibrating. crazzzzy lol.
On some programmes the machine will repeat a rinse cycle to help get any detergent out of the washing. Check the programme you have selected and do not overload the machine.
+Balint Szegfu This is such a common problem until you realise how easy it is to avoid. And of course it will help the life of your machine by not shaking it to bits and damaging the bearings.
I found a cause of unbalanced loads in my Bosch; it was not spinning up gently but instead jumping to full speed, giving no chance to distribute the load evenly. The cause of this speed gremlin was a broken wire to the motor (the leftmost wire in the block connector). I hope nobody else suffers the same symptom - it's extreme.
+Bernard Payne Thanks for your comments, the wire would likely have been to the tacho coil. This feeds back to the control board the speed of the motor, when broken the motor will go to maximum speed briefly and stop. This is shown in another video: th-cam.com/video/D5Aw7CBEGPI/w-d-xo.html
What if the floor area under the worktop is uneven? You don't have a long enough tool to adjust the BACK legs and you don't have enough space to use a spirit level on top of the machine, while it's under the worktop.
+Sydney Athome You can use a spirit level on the sides and front panel to show if they are upright or the machine is sloping but it is not necessary to have a machine absolutely dead level. However it is important to adjust the legs to ensure the machine does not rock. Try adjusting before pushing in place and readjust until it sits firm.
+eSpares I used simple maths, a calliper and spirit level. 1. I turned all the machine feet to close position. 2. I used the spirit level and calliper to measure the height/depth to level on the floor where the machine legs would be standing. 3. I adjusted each machine legs to compensate for the uneven floor. Works great.
Hi Shohid, it is not essential for the appliance to be 'dead level' but it should not be leaning in one direction. Most spirit levels can measure a vertical post so use this method against the front panel and its edges to check if 'significantly' out.
Does anyone know if you’re wanting to save time and electricity, say you just hand wash all your clothes but you want to get most of the water out. Can you just put them in your washing machine and go directly to the spin cycle? Is that OK? Or will that damage your washer? Thanks.
matt, I have a wm2701hv by LG and i have a a knocking sound at the start of spin cycles. This is only at the beginning of cycles at lower speeds and the machine will eventually level off and speed up thus reaching high speeds. I have just tried to solve this issue replacing the dampers with new Original equipment replacements from lg. The symptom continues however. Curious enough this isn't a constant knocking noise like a loose counter weight as described in the video. On this particular model LG the weights are on the front of the drum. I feel like the noise is produced in this area almost as if the bottom counterweight is hitting against the front panel. thanks, Ronny & Laura
doing this I found that after some previous work on the drum was done the bottom counter weight was installed backwards. thus sticking out enough to knock against the front panel. thanks matt
In my 22 years of appliance repair I would say a shaking, banging walking front load washer is the biggest headache. A few things to consider: #1 not all home floors can handle a front load washer (especially the heavy bulky ones like LG, Whirlpool, Samsung etc). A simple test you can perform is to place a glass of water on top of your washer, and, standing right in front of it sprig up and down on the floor (not jump, spring.) if the water sloshes around in the glass you are hooped. #2 even if the washer has leveled the load, when it starts revving up you will get a jumping vibrating tub until it reaches around 600 RPM. #3 If your rubber feet on the washer have worn through and it is sitting on the metal part of the feet, it will cause this problem. #4 if you have a lot of dust and soapy residue under the rubber feet it can cause the washer to "walk". These are things you can check in an uncontrolled situation.
Hi, I just watched your video on the the shaking washing machine. Where do you get a weight like that? My front load LG washer doesn't have a weight like that, but there are 2 springs that it dangles from. Each time there is a wash there is banging noise that the drum has excessive movement. Can the springs actually support the drum and that weight together? There are extra spring connections on the top of the LG plastic drum, I wonder if those are meant to have springs connected to them in order to stop the excessive drum movement? I just have so many questions regarding this washer, it is new for me. Thanks for the videos
Hi Rob, every washing machine will have a concrete weight fitted, the machine is designed to support the tub by means of suspension and springs and has worked for many years.
Hi, I found the weights, they are attached to the front of the plastic drum, but they are "SMALL" size, very. Oh well, I'm still wondering how I can find out if my shock absorbers are still good. It might be answered in another reply. THx you very much
Hi Rob, check for any damage to the suspension as if they break it can cause issues and most are creased so check that is still working when they are moving.
HI eSpares, I have the new control board for my LG washer. The fuse has continuity so it is good. I want to test the board first by just connecting the incoming power from the noise filter to see if the red diode glows. it is a new board, and it should glow, but I don't wish to connect anything to it yet until I finish checking the parts behind the front cover. Thanks, Robert
Hi! Our Bosch has recently started vibrating slightly more then usually during a fast spin with a full load. The machine is level and when I put pressure on top of it, the vibration seems to ease off slightly. Is that a sign of a loosened balance weight or have the shock absorbers started wearing off? :-)
+Amingr This sounds like the feet may need resetting to ensure it is evenly pressing on all four feet. The shock absorbers very rarely wear and a loose weight can be checked by looking at the bolts as shown at 2:09
Hi. Thanks for your reply. The washing machine was rattling during another spin and I adjusted its position. Turns out, the feet must have been touching the decorative moulding, so thankfully no more rattling.
Really informative videos you guys make! With this one and the "Diagnose Drum Problems"-video, I already know what making the bad noises from our washing machine without even opened it yet. Recognized the sound right away from the loose counterweight at the top when you loosened it a bit :) Is there any way to diagnose wornout shock absorbers at the bottom without having to remove them? Are they oil-filled or just a spring in them? Those were my alternative suspects before I watched this vid. Those or the springs at the top, but those are a bit easier to check.
Many engineers have suspected and replaced the dampers after customers have complained of excessive shaking. Nearly all of the times I have replaced these they have turned out to be fine (unless obviously rusty or broken). It is much more likely the problem will be due to the wash load being out of balance, that is why we made this video in an attempt to show this.
If it is (was) a new washer the shipping bolts for locking the outer drum weren't removed. To travel more than 5ft or so would require a longer than normal power cord (or it bounced down a steep hill).
I don't know why, but, my old washing machine started to do a loud noise, during a spin cycle, the drum stopped suddenly, and guess what happened after that, the drum got dented! The drum was also scraping the inner tub! How this happened??? Can somebody answer my question? Also, this happened a long time ago.
Hi Gregory, OE is usually an output error indicating the machine cannot drain due to a blockage in the pump but this could be different depending on the Manufacturer. We have videos on error codes for a number of Manufacturers as well as videos on diagnosing the problem, see another video like this one: th-cam.com/video/frEJhX9Sppw/w-d-xo.html
that's why you biui y a front load cause it isn't suppose to get unbalanced my old front load never had a problem with it my new one constantly unbalanced
mine was none of the obvious problems.in the end it was a tiny nut out of a childrens toy set.say 1mm by 3mm just above the waterline stuck to the outer drum wall ..on fast spin very bangy.lowered the spin it went ..found it with a 14inch ziptie poke it in between the drum and the outer drum ..take the lid off and have a good toorch..or bright light .as you poke the ziptie round you can see it moving round through the holes in the drum.keep poking in a in an out motion draging it round never found the nut .it was poking it in and out .this wont sort everyones problem.but just goes to show .a litte thing behind the drum.will make it bang loud.on fast spin...
While it's running, you're not going to want to take the top off. If you unplug the machine, there is no issue removing the top and tightening everything up.
The shock absorbers may have been damaged, you will need to check them and they are located underneath the machine and here is a video to help th-cam.com/video/Z_9XpYe1hqA/w-d-xo.html&t
Hi Andreas, on some machines sounding like an airbus can be normal lol but most machines should not be noisy and can be repaired but thanks for the post made us laugh.
Europeans are always explaining things about front-loading washers, but not top-loading washers. A lot of us around the world don't like front-loading washers.
Sorry about that but unfortunately we cannot get hold of top loading machines to produce videos on. Hopefully by following our diagnosis videos: th-cam.com/video/QYPqpjLV7s4/w-d-xo.html the information given should still allow you to identify your problem (even if it looks different on your machine).
That is because top loaders use too much water and dont spin fast enough compared to front loaders which use water more efficiently and spin much faster thus getting the clothes wrung out more
Because top loaders are only really popular in America. The rest of the world uses front loaders because they're better at cleaning with less water and electricity.
easy for you to say, how can a 110 pound woman lift the stupid thing to do this job........I guess I have to pay someone for an expensive service call.....
Really helpful little video, many thanks. My washing machine has been migrating across the kitchen each time I use it and your explanation about the knocking sound nailed it
Hi Dave, thank you for your post and glad our video helped you sort it.
I dip in, from time-to-time, to these very useful eSpares videos and find them so educational. It's great to learn and gain some
knowledge about the mechanics of our domestic utilitarian devices we use in our homes everyday that we take for granted. Many thanks.
Hi Anon, glad you are enjoying our videos as we try our best to produce a video everyone will like.
Lovely! One of the best demonstrations of the inner workings of a washer.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Glad you found this video interesting!
This sounds like our problem. Thank you. We have that model & the dryer stacked on top. It's way to heavy to deal with as we have back issues. Thanks to you, I think we have an idea of how to instruct a repair person. Thanks again. Have a happy Resurrection Day.
Hi Matt
This video is very useful for me thank u for the suggestion
We have checked the balance several times couldn't figure out the prblm.
And now u gave us a solution
Hi, thanks for your comment, hopefully our video will help you to solve the issue with your washing machine!
Hi, thanks so much for your comment Louise! We hope this video was able to point you in the right direction of the issue with your washing machine.
Have the same problem, what was your solution?
U mnie pękła przeciwwaga po prawej stronie dopiero jak rozebrałem zdjąłem to okazało się że jest walnięta
Will you please suggest me is Direct drive washing machine is good behaf of belt drive.
Matt.
I have also seen washing machines shake when all the legs are screwed out to the max. This caused a waving effect in the motion of the washing machine. All I did was screw the legs in to the min and level the machine out - like you mentioned.
Another good video from #eparts Thx
+Robert Sababady Thanks for the comments Robert. :-)
Being upside down, how do you keep washing machines spilling out water in Australia?
They use heavier water.
@@eSpares thank you so much
@@eSpares It is a new machine.
Perhaps I didn't put enough load of laundry.
Hi Jason, depending on the machine you may get some movement and everything should be fine, if you are also getting noises then that would indicate bearings.
hotpoint the single weight at the front bottom and came loose. tightened them up and result. thanks.
:-)
how do i get the top off please ?
Oh, then I don't understand why they wouldn't use the same weight on a 2014 machine. Oh well?
Thank you so much this saved me £140! Just because of the concrete weight was loose
Hi, thanks for your comment...it's so good to hear that our video has helped you to save all this money!!
My top loader LG is making very bad noisy sounds though it’s new while spinning as bad as you’ve shown what to do do you have any videos for top loader?
Same thing with balance, try first with just light loads and if this is OK be careful to load any 'heavies' so they can balance with similar weighted washing.
Hi there, how do i get a balanced load?
Hi nw8000, now that is the question so if you have made sure the machine is level then remember that each machine has a load capacity 6kg 7kg 8kg so don't overload it or under load it as both will cause issues. Different brands will spin at different speeds and cope differently with loads so don't put a bath mat in on its own and if you have a problem stop redistribute the clothes and try again.
And here's me thinking a balanced load is,making sure ya dont put more clothes to the right hand/ left hand side of the drum 😄 never gave the kgs a thought
Thanks. Really helpful. Going berserk here doing my son’s loads at his place. Still gonna have to find a man to help.
Can you tell me how to replace the bearings on a Hotpoint Aquarius plus WMF740 Please or any Hotpoint washer.
What mm do i meed for the top counterweigh????
I've just purchased a new Beko machine and OMG it walks and turned. we've have leveled the feet flat on floor but still is doing it. after watching this VDO I'll let you know as soon as possible the results 😂😂😂
Have you removed the 'transit bolts'?, these fix the drum during delivery and must be removed on installation. For more information see another video: th-cam.com/video/Leqc63H8G3Y/w-d-xo.html
Also what is your opinion on beko washers ,I bought a 9kg drum model ,I've had one before and it was ok ,for the price they seem to be a good buy .☺️
What about if the dampers are bad? Would that also cause the same issue with a unbalanced load? I wish someone would have a video to show bad dampers.
Hi Sean, let us know how you get on.
3 VS 5.
Hi Sean, hopefully, it will be ok but any problems give us a shout.
Hello eSpares,
Perhaps you can shed some light onto this for me.
Will make it as brief as possible and leave out the story part:
*Received free 2014 LG washer: WM3370HWA with matching gas dryer
*Functioned normally
*Added a little extra water up to the drain in rubber seal for large items, king bed covers
*pump would remove any excess water above and beyond the program options, successfully
*The FE fill error would display on the screen until the correct water level was reached then cycle continued again
*Selected extra water, but it wasn't enough
*Selected "warm" water temp
* Water temp in tank was good for this
*Used hot water inside house for cleaning, etc
*Heating coil turned on and electric burning odor emitted from washer vent
*Cycle finished
*Sanitize option selected for next wash
*Electric burning smell worsened
*stopped sanitize load and switched to warm, burning smell not as severe as sanitize mode
Still think it is the heater coil
Questions:
*Could heating coil and thermistor be caked or covered in hard water minerals?
*Should this "odor" be there?
*Technically, how long do thermistors and heater coils last, on average, of course?
*How long do washer pumps last?
*This reminds me of my hot tub that needed a new heater coil in the first 3-5 years, same symptoms and similar odors
*What is the average life span of the original parts on this model machine?
*Springs, shock absorbers, aka dampners, heater coil, thermistor, water pump, front washer control panel, and the main interior control panel?
*There is a lot of movement in the drum for unbalanced loads. The machine will attempt 3xs to rebalance the load and spin slowly instead.
Thanks ahead of time, i would add inthe story and this would take you through all the steps of what happened, but I don't think its necessary.
Regards,
Robert
Hi eSpares,
My house is an original 1950s with a 2 wire ungrounded electric system in the original house section.
Hi, thanks for you comment and question here...we have a video on this subject that could help!
th-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/w-d-xo.html
Hi, don't know how you got on with your bouncing machine. However, make sure the machine is level, AND the floor it's on is solid. That is so important. If on floorboards, they will flex with the weight between the floor joists, and that will make the machine bounce.
Hope helps
@@Hands9924 Thanks. My partner looked at it and it's on a balanced floor. It wasn't before. Thanks again.
So are you suggesting more load is better to prevent wandering and vibration?
Adding heavy items together will balance out the load, stop shaking and reduce noise in your washing machine.
I have the same problem but found a plastic puk shaped thing under the washing machine just a bit bigger than a 2£ coin halved in 2. But when u loosened the concrete block that's what my machine sounded like. didn't sound like bearings.
Please see the replies to your other comments.
If there is any heavy items put them separately on a heavy wash with enough to spread around the drum and i should resolve your problem.
how can I show u a picture of what I found under the machine. thanks
Ian
The weight and the bolts holding it are shown in more detail on another video here:

barry shanks my machine only has a weight under the the door of the drum and had came loose. didn't even know it was there till I tilted it back and pushed it and noticed it was slack. tightened it and all good. same sound as this video but the top weight was perfect. so went looking. job done.
Thanku for your helpful information
Hi, thanks for your comment...hopefully it our video has helped you solve thee issue now.
Again thank you for your help :)
mikevad360 :-)
Does the apply for Bosch machines to
Hi Lara, The video applies to all washing machines so hopefully the information in the video will help you if not get back in touch.
great video thanks, I have the exact same washing machine that is walking down the hallway.
Hi Oystersgetclamydia, thank you for your post and glad our video helped.
does using a stand fix the vibration problem?🤔🤔
Hi Aditya, it would depend on the cause of the vibration but the points shown in the video always help you locate the reason.
Hello, how do you repair a Samsung washer showing UE error. The machine is balanced
Does this apply to top loadeing machine?
Hi Thrill Kill, top loader balance the load in a different way but you still need to be careful with the loads as it can still become unbalanced.
Increasing the mass will help so consider placing on a concrete paving slab as it will help and try to keep heavy items together and avoid mixing light and heavy items.
our first front load machine wobbled and moved from it's place, making a huge noise due to unbalanced load..
got clarified.. thanks 🙏🏽👍🏽

Someone tell me it is a standard to use snap rings to that concrete.
Tightening these bolts like is said did the trick. Works perfect now. Bet a rip off machine guy would have said summit else was busted and whipped me £150. 1 hr later and I'm fully working with a quiet machine again.
Ian Nicol
Did it shake agressively I guess. I will try that hope it's doing.
yes it did. all sorted now. machine is 6 years old but still looks like new. wasn't the top weight but the bottom one that was slack. whole house was vibrating. crazzzzy lol.
After my washer broke after three years plus it was holding water why
Hi Rachel, check the drainage so start with your filter and the drain pump as it sounds like it hasn't drained out properly.
eSpares unfortunately it got scrapped last week

My indesit washing machine sometimes repeats the wash cycle after rinse instead of spin cycle .sometimes keeps repeating the same pls advice
On some programmes the machine will repeat a rinse cycle to help get any detergent out of the washing. Check the programme you have selected and do not overload the machine.
Very useful this video for me!
Thank You!
+eSpares Thanks, very thorough. I just wanted to make the link between an unbalanced load problem and the wiring/speed sensor failure.
+Bernard Payne :-)
What if the floor area under the worktop is uneven? You don't have a long enough tool to adjust the BACK legs and you don't have enough space to use a spirit level on top of the machine, while it's under the worktop.
+Sydney Athome You can use a spirit level on the sides and front panel to show if they are upright or the machine is sloping but it is not necessary to have a machine absolutely dead level. However it is important to adjust the legs to ensure the machine does not rock. Try adjusting before pushing in place and readjust until it sits firm.
+eSpares
I used simple maths, a calliper and spirit level. 1. I turned all the machine feet to close position. 2. I used the spirit level and calliper to measure the height/depth to level on the floor where the machine legs would be standing. 3. I adjusted each machine legs to compensate for the uneven floor. Works great.
+Sydney Athome Great, now you just need to remember about washing heavy items. :-)
Thanks.
Yes you can do that. Just use Drain and spin or directly to spin cycle. No problem
I do that a lot. No problem.
Hi espares my john lewis washing machine jlbiwm1402 making metallic rattle noise I think this video is the cause of my problem.
Hi And War, lol that would be a neat trick if we could do it, I think you need to look at the video again ☺
matt,
I have a wm2701hv by LG and i have a a knocking sound at the start of spin cycles. I feel like the noise is produced in this area almost as if the bottom counterweight is hitting against the front panel.
thanks,
Ronny & Laura
+laurahsu2227 Check the bolts on the weight as if only a little loose they can knock at certain 'speeds'.
doing this I found that after some previous work on the drum was done the bottom counter weight was installed backwards. thus sticking out enough to knock against the front panel. thanks matt
+laurahsu2227 Glad to hear you resolved your problem.
But my washing machine is a top loader. Where is the concrete block to check what needs tightening?
We might be able to help if you give us a model number Joe. :-)
Hi David, thank you for your post and helpful tips. We hope your information provided will help other people.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO
Hi DSM, Your welcome
Hi, I just watched your video on the the shaking washing machine.
Where do you get a weight like that?
My front load LG washer doesn't have a weight like that, but there are 2 springs that it dangles from.
Each time there is a wash there is banging noise that the drum has excessive movement.
Can the springs actually support the drum and that weight together?
There are extra spring connections on the top of the LG plastic drum, I wonder if those
are meant to have springs connected to them in order to stop the excessive drum movement?
HI eSpares,
I have the new control board for my LG washer.
The fuse has continuity so it is good.
I want to test the board first by just connecting the incoming power from the
noise filter to see if the red diode glows.
it is a new board, and it should glow, but I don't wish to connect anything to it yet until I finish checking
the parts behind the front cover.
Thanks,
Robert
Hi Robert, we do not test anything live here at eSpares due to the safety risks but we do ask you to be careful.
Good video mat 👍
Hi Eric, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed the video.
Glad you sorted the problem, thanks for the feedback. :-)
It is much more likely the problem will be due to the wash load being out of balance, that is why we made this video in an attempt to show this.
my bosch washer drum hit the side of the washer before a spin
Hi Wayne, that does sound like an unbalanced load, have you watched the video for the tips we give to prevent this from happening.
I swear my washer just took off jumping up and down the damn street with all my clothes!🤣
Hi Angel Eyes Jr, that's a great way of explaining it. We hope this video has tamed your washing machine :)
Hi Acer, it sounds like the issue was related to the bearings failing which can result in too much movement in the drum.
spider wheel broken
Excellent !
Hi, thanks for your comment, it's nice to know our video was useful for you, and hopefully it has helped you to solve the problem!
well done, thanks
Hi David, thanks for the nice comment, remember to like the video and subscribe for even more useful videos.
what is a jumpa?
Hi Ted, a jumper would be a clothing item and with regards to this video it would help to balance the weight load inside the drum.
What about an OE error code?
Hi Gregory, OE is usually an output error indicating the machine cannot drain due to a blockage in the pump but this could be different depending on the Manufacturer. We have videos on error codes for a number of Manufacturers as well as videos on diagnosing the problem, see another video like this one:

Great video and answers a lot of 'untouched on' questions (as you mentioned).
Thanks for the comments Kal, another video you might find useful is:

Thanks very much! ...(Kinda wish I hadn't kicked the sh!t out of it when it started making horrible noises now. ;) )
Lol, not a recommended way to repair an appliance.:-)
Problem sorted then😅
I just watch this for entertainment not for help lol
I used to do that
And even when you do this and the machine walks across the floor when it is less than 12 months old, then what?
Hi Fireicer Cooper, contact the manufacturer as it is still under guarantee and they will come out and fix it for free.
This was really useful video and that you are responding helpfully to people 4 years later is very commendable! :)
Hi Ninja Duck, thank you for your post and we will continue to offer advice to help everyone with the issues.
that's why you biui y a front load cause it isn't suppose to get unbalanced my old front load never had a problem with it my new one constantly unbalanced
Thank you sir
Hi ashok dobariya, you are welcome and have a good day
I’ve learned heavy things together light things together
Hi Rachel, it is about finding the right balance
mine was none of the obvious problems.in the end it was a tiny nut out of a childrens toy set.say 1mm by 3mm just above the waterline stuck to the outer drum wall ..on fast spin very bangy.lowered the spin it went ..found it with a 14inch ziptie poke it in between the drum and the outer drum ..take the lid off and have a good toorch..or bright light .as you poke the ziptie round you can see it moving round through the holes in the drum.keep poking in a in an out motion draging it round never found the nut .it was poking it in and out .this wont sort everyones problem.but just goes to show .a litte thing behind the drum.will make it bang loud.on fast spin...
Thanks for the comments Franky, glad you sorted the problem.
Shame you did not find our other video:

Terima kasih banyak .....
sama-sama. :-)
Don't worry!! The noise is just from the motor and the pump!!!
I have same prob, what do you thing could be, it make same noise
I'm confused... 'never take the top off at home'.. then 'simply tighten the nuts ' which are under the top..
While it's running, you're not going to want to take the top off. If you unplug the machine, there is no issue removing the top and tightening everything up.
Hi Andrew, thank you for providing Brian with the answer nice job.
Ahh ok lol got it now, thanks
I think it the shock absobers
The shock absorbers may have been damaged, you will need to check them and they are located underneath the machine and here is a video to help th-cam.com/video/Z_9XpYe1hqA/w-d-xo.html&t
sounds like an Airbus, but that's "normal", yeah?.😂🤣
Hi Andreas, on some machines sounding like an airbus can be normal lol but most machines should not be noisy and can be repaired but thanks for the post made us laugh.
Thakyou so much
Too bad you start looking for these videos when it's already too late.
Hi Stefan, thanks for your post. We hope that you come back to us if you have any appliance related issues.
The indesit washing machine it's biutiful and God it's my old washing machine 11 it's old
Hi Mr. wash, thank you for your post and you machine is lasting well.
This doesnt work
Ha, thanks, it was indeed a loose weight!
Hi Kim Jong Il , glad our video helped.
Niicee.
Hi Austin, thanks for your comment. We hope it has helped you solve your washing machine problem!
If I buy a lot of these machines I'll have enough stepping stones to get to the clothesline.
It appears our video has not provided you with the help you need. Have you thought of checking your local DIY store for a stepping stone instead?
@@eSpares lmao...troll of the year
that s what good p sounds like lol
:-)
women don't care about balancing :)
Europeans are always explaining things about front-loading washers, but not top-loading washers.
A lot of us around the world don't like front-loading washers.
Sorry about that but unfortunately we cannot get hold of top loading machines to produce videos on. Hopefully by following our diagnosis videos:
th-cam.com/video/QYPqpjLV7s4/w-d-xo.html
the information given should still allow you to identify your problem (even if it looks different on your machine).
Its because you dont have no friends or family coz your an bitch
