What sets them apart from Michael and Trevor is that these two argue in every scene but still have genuine appreciation for each other without threatening to kill the other even once
Franklin and Lamar were heading that way. They are practically them but the younger versions. What stopped them from going down that direction was Michael and Trevor themselves, installing lessons which must've remained with them.
You're not wrong, but I think Franklin needs other people to bounce off of to reach his full potential. He's like Larry from the Three Stooges; funny, but at his best working with one or more others.
I could be wrong(probably am) but Lamar was actually planned to be playable but slink johnson(Lamar’s va) got arrested during the development and rockstar got so deep in development they couldn’t turn around and make Lamar a playable character(could be wrong)
