    Not sure if I come for the Chinese or the acting?! I moved from China like you but to next door....Myanmar. So now I need to look at you to improve my Chinese for my TH-cam channel and for work as some of my student's parents don't speak English so I need to speak Chinese to them. Blessings from Miss Liza in Yangon. You killed me with the boyfriend skit.....'I didn't have a chance'!🤣🤣🤣

Maybe you should catalog a Series of Lessons that can be used in our Public schools to help students get some help as a tool for Teachers, I think if you played your Cards right our school Board would be all willing to buy your Teaching Programs because you have a great Personality and you use Humorous ways

    The choice between shi...de and le is not a matter of emphasis. It is a question of whether or not you want to connect this information as extra information to the main event.

    "This video was made by my teacher"
    "这个视频是我老师制作的"
    In the 是…的 construction, if 是 is followed by a person, then I think it's a special case.
    This is not emphasizing any detail. The person after 是 is the doer of the action.
    And the subject of the sentence is what they created. So this is the "passive voice", expressed with "by" in English. I don't think that 被 would be used for the passive voice if someone created something.

    So to sum up 🆙 we use “shì”是 and “的 if we want extra information about something or we want to emphasise about specific information in the sentence . Correct me if I’m wrong 📖

  • @Dave6177

    Great lesson! Hadn't heard about this structure before 😁👍. Btw. could you also ask "你昨天是几点回的家" ? Like Verb+ 的+Object instead of V+O+ 的. Or does 回 not work like a verb like that?

    • @mountaintag
      @mountaintag ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that 回 can't really be separated from the place you're going back to, especially if it's 家. I think that 回家 is like "go home" in English, and you can't put anything between the two words. But I think it would be okay to say:
      你是什么时候买的你家?"When did you buy your home?"
      Here, I have separated 家 from 买, and this should be okay. It's the same as:
      你是什么时候买你家的?

    Great Job shuo laoshi, xie xie ni

  • @SpanishWorld-zu2nm
    @SpanishWorld-zu2nm ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, if I am asking somebody what their job is, should I say 你是做什么工作的 ?? Only if I am asking further information? Like, person A says 我有工作 then person B says 你是做什么工作的 ?

    • @ShuoshuoChinese
      @ShuoshuoChinese  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! This is not the 是…的 structure discussed here, “你是做什么工作的” and “你做什么工作” basically have the same meaning. How to tell? - the fact in the past follows the pattern of “who did what (I had food, she went to China, He bought book, etc) , so we don’t dig into the “what” part because it’s already apart of the known fact. In other words, we don’t use “什么What” as the question word for 是…的 structure.

    • @SpanishWorld-zu2nm
      @SpanishWorld-zu2nm ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShuoshuoChinese Okay, that makes sense because in the video you said 是…的 is used for "when, where, from where, why, how, and with whom". So, I could say 你是怎么知道这个活动的? if the event is a known fact for both parties and I am asking how you knew about it, whereas 你怎么知道这个活动? is like asking "how did you know about this event?" when the event wasn't a known fact for both parties, like if I came in and saw an event written on your calendar that I didn't know about and I asked you"how did you find out about this event?" Is that right?

    • @ShuoshuoChinese
      @ShuoshuoChinese  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This might be a bit hard to understand but the “known fact” in your example is not “这个活动”,but “你知道这个活动”。To ask “how did you know this activity “ is “你是怎么知道这个活动的?” While “你怎么知道这个活动” is more like “How come you know this activity?”

    ShuoShuo.... PLEASE SLOW THINGS DOWN!!!! Within the few first few seconds of this video you displayed shi and de which stayed on the screen a whole 1.75 seconds! If you want your people to be able to learn the characters you MUST display them for MUCH longer. If you have two characters up, with that timing that gives people less than a full second per character to see where they are displayed and POSSIBLY be able to remember what they look like. THERE IS NO NEED TO GO THAT FAST. Your content is great, but you make it difficult for (at least new Chinese students) to follow your content. Yes, there are times when one has to listen to spoken Chinese at full speed as some of your videos do. But when introducing WRITTEN DISPLAYS OR MATERIAL Strongly suggest you linger on the displays 5 to 10 times longer than you do. You will find many more students and subscribers. Thank you.
