Oh my lord this lesson is the most useful lesson I have seen in TH-cam for Chinese. Other channels usually focus on how to say sentences correctly but not on how to avoid serious mistakes. Thanks for this!
You are great... That 's the first time somebody explained to me this construction. And it s so logical .... And so similar to italian! Thank u so much
I've been learning Mandarin for four years now. I've been taught about these constructions before of course. Today, for the first time ever, I've learned about this difference XD Really, somehow no one really cared to explain that to me before, even though I must have gotten this difference wrong during classes many times.
Very interesting and useful video! So we use the 是的 structure for emphasis. What about putting 昨天 in front of 我. That way we also emphasize yesterday right? And another thing. At 2:57. If B would be: 'We drove to the park'. So when I want to add park in the sentence. I put park after 的 right? Like this 我们是开车去的公园。Is it also possible to put 公园 in front of 的. Or wouldn't it make sense? Or is it maybe wrong because it wouldn't be clear enough whether you emphasize 开车 or 公园?
I think that 是…的 is generally used to emphasize an adverb: when/where/how/why. I wonder if it could be used to emphasize a noun. For the last example in the video, I wonder if I could use it to emphasize: THIS is what I bought in Beijing. Could I say: 是这个我在北京买的。
Can you please explain why "谁说的" is translated as "Who said that?" I don't know if the whole phrase would be "是谁说的" but based on this video, if we ask "who" it's not immediately apparent why we should not say "是谁说了".
I have some difficulty grasping the rationale behind this gramatical structure when using a personal pronoun. [Pronoun + shi4 + when/where/how + de5 + (omitted noun) ]. When you ask for example: When did you see Mark? and later answer: Wo3 shi4 zuo2tian1 qu4jian4 Ma3ke4 de5... How do you explain it? is it something like: I am THE ONE that yesterday went to see mark? The full chinese answer including the omitted noun at the end would be something like: Wo3 shi4 zuo2tian1 qu4jian4 Ma3ke4 de5 ren2?
One video about the correct usage of potential complement VS 能,will be very helpful. And one video about the correct usage of the complements of result
This is explained at Grammar 3.6.1 th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=AaTrEvE_abs Complement of results see Grammar 2.9.1 th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=17CvjW26gNY
你在哪裡學中文? 我是在大學學中文的。 你星期幾要上課?我是星期三要上課的。 I can't guarantee you that it's correct since I'm not a native, but it should be something along the lines of this.
I am even less of a native speaker :-) but I tend to agree with Vallaris A. Because I think that the item to be emphasized needs to follow directly after 是. So kev villa's last example seems to stress 要. Perhaps it could be translated as "On Wednesday, I really want to go to class" (if it could be considered correct at all). To stress "Wednesday" even more, I would be tempted to say: 是星期三我要上课的。
你在哪裡學中文? OK 我是在大學學中文的。OK 你星期幾要上課?OK 我是星期三要上課的。❌ 我星期三要上课。OK Remember, this video is strictly talking about COMPLETED actions (usually the past). 是……的 is usually used for past, completed actions.
why cannot be : 我昨天去见了马克? vs 我昨天见马克了 whats the difference? Make it worse, i am Chinese. Mandarin is my first language. After watching these TH-cam videos, then i knew the way i spoke Chinese is incorrect in terms of grammar
I may be but a learner of Chinese as a second language, but I was thinking very hard about this too. My conclusion is that it's a structure when there are two consecutive actions. Because you're going... AND seeing Mark, the 了 gets moved to behind the object. The most common case seems to be using 来 and 去 from what I found after frantically searching for examples. Do you think what I'm think makes sense? I could have it wrong.
I guess there is difference. 了indicate that action is completed. So, use 了 when you want to suggest action is done....... But note that 了 is not indication of past tense...... But wait for their official answer, it will increase my knowledge too.......
Hrushikesh Khot for what I know, in these examples there is no difference, both are correct. However, if you put in a counter you need to put the 了 in the middle of the sentence.
I think that with a counter included, you can still add another 了 at the end of the sentence to indicate that the count will continue. This could be translated as "so far" or "up until now". For example: 我吃了三个饺子了 "I have eaten three dumplings, so far". 我玩了三个小时了 "I have been playing for three hours, so far."
My feeling is that putting 了 right after the verb implies something more immediate. So perhaps your first example could be translated as "I went to see Mark just yesterday". But the word "just" would not be implied in the second example. Certainly, if 刚刚 or 刚才 is used, then 了 needs to appear right after the verb. For example: 我刚才去见了马克 "I just now went to see Mark."

他们的视频都对学习汉语有帮助,Jon 除了法语规定解释得特别清楚以外,还是一个很幽默的人 and available to help and answer any question! 值得报名他们的Channel. 加油加油
I'm in HSK1 with Chinesezerotohero.com and the lessons are as good as this one. Thank you!!!
Where are you now?
You are great... That 's the first time somebody explained to me this construction. And it s so logical .... And so similar to italian! Thank u so much
讲得非常清楚!谢谢!请问你们都是线上教学吗?
Great video ,man very useful. I am enrolled in the HSK 3 course and am really looking forward to future Chinese gone wrong videos :)
Thanks for choosing to study with us!

Great video
But, I think the question should be “How did you get to the park?” instead of drive to the park
Amazing lesson! 谢谢!

这些都可以:
我们是开车去的公园。
我们是开车去公园的。
昨天,我们是开车去的公园。
我们是昨天开车去的公园。
any help with the use of 给, 为, 对, etc.. as prepositions would be really appreciated as I think these are often misused. Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for your continued support!
Great video - Thanks for this. I look forward to future videos

这个是我在北京买的。OK. This is what I bought in Beijing.
这是我在北京买的。 如果他们听错了 可以说 是这个, 不是那个
Thank you so much you helped me in this lesson a lot ❤️
Hi. Please provide translation of both the statements cause some of us haven't learned them either. Thanks!
Really, interesting, I know the structure but I didn't know when use it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS! 🤍 非常有用!真棒!太谢谢你了
I've spent at least half an hour watching 是的 videos on TH-cam, and within the first two minutes of watching this I was already saying "Ohhhhhhh"
谢谢老师
Thanks- this is very helpful!
Simply perfect!!!
This is as clear as the daylight❤
Why does the first example have 了 and 的 after 马克 and not after 见
4:00 can zhege be used in the beginning of the sentence as well?
Ravina Janwasia of course you can say “这个我是在北京买的”
Can you please explain why "谁说的" is translated as "Who said that?" I don't know if the whole phrase would be "是谁说的" but based on this video, if we ask "who" it's not immediately apparent why we should not say "是谁说了".
Really nice! Thanks.
Great content! Subscribed yesterday! If I ask “when did you wake up?”, will it need to have the same structure or can I ask “你今天几点起床了”?
Your emphasis is on *when*, so it would be 你今天是几点起床的?
@@ChineseZeroToHero I admire how you take the tome to reply to everyone. Thank you!
Teacher can i cite your this video in my grammar book?

Your videos are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing. I have a question. Can you use this structure to describe someone as in 她 是 漂亮 的?
That would be an answer to question like "Is she a model?" " yes She is a beautiful model." 对。她是漂亮的。 they omit model because you don't really need it
thank you so much ! I tried to figure this out for so long, and now I got it.

Very useful. Thanks so much. About the final example, is it fine if I answered the final of question this way: 我是在北京买这个的
It should be 我是在北京买的这个
what about if i say “这个蛋糕是妈妈做的” is taht correct and use the same form shi ... de?
哇塞!老师谢谢!我终于明白了。
很有意思
3:50 我是在北京买的这个。Could we also say: 我是在北京买这个的。?
"We drove there" isn't an an answer to "how did you drive to the park?", it's an answer to "how did you GO to the park"
Could I say
"我是在北京买这个的。"
instead of
我是在北京买的这个。"?
So in terms of the questions, should I ask “你是在哪儿买的这个?”, “你是怎么去公园的?“。。。Is the 的 necessary in the questions?
Yes, the same rule applies to questions as well. See our video on Grammar 1.15.1 th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=0MBVY8w2VTQ
wo zuotian qu yiyuan kan le yisheng

不能找到关于“其次”和“在....上”这些视频。
“在……上”是语法4.1.5,“首先……其次”是语法4.3.4。我们有些视频只有在我们的网站chinesezerotohero.com上买了HSK课程的才可以看。如果有兴趣可以来我们网站了解一下。😊

You're absolutely right. This is an HSK 1 video, there are many other uses of 了 which will be covered in HSK3+.
What's the difference between 我昨天去了见雅克布 and 我昨天去过见雅克布
Amazing..
