@@adammyers7383 So I know tthis “Marvel” (more like Huge MCU fan) in the real world he doesn’t really like Spider-Man and said that Spider-Man is weak and not that great and important of a hero and weaker than Captain America and can barely last in a city compared to Cap, and when he watched Captain America Civil War, he said Spider-Man sucked during the civil war airport fight and was so bad (I told that person that Spidey only had 6 months of experience and that person said that they did not care and STILL expected way more from him). I even told him how he was whooping Falcon (who he says is badass) and Winter Solider’s ass and he resorted to saying “Yeah Well He’s Very Annoying” and doesn’t get the concept of how Spidey cracks jokes to annoy his enemies and defends Deadpool and said Deadpool was funny and not annoying and when I had to explain to him why Spidey cracks jokes, he said he “never saw it in that way”. He said he was not excited for the new Spider-Man Mocies (Back when “Homecoming” was in production) because his movies “aren’t that good” (This is all long before Homecoming went into production ). How can you be a Marvel fan and not acknowledge Spider-Man’s importance to Marvel? He’s Stan Lee’s favorite character. When I told this guy about the Civil War trailer, and told him to guess the big surprise that happens, he thought Hulk was gonna show up and when Spidey showed up, he was like “Cool I guess”. I really should’ve told his friends because they would’ve shut him up and give him proper treatment as this dude apparently spread stuff about me and got away with being quiet about these things . He’s also a big PS4 person, so I hope he saw the reception and sales for that game through his ass-noculars. He even told me I’d be a bad teacher because I’d just show students Spider-Man movies (Tobey Maguire ones). and keep in mind his favorite heroes are Deadpool, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Antman, Falcon, and Punisher (who he knows nothing about besides his cool weapons)

And another thing is his resilience. No matter how hard he’s hit he always gets up. No matter how hard his villains try to destroy him physically and emotionally he always gets up. Because that’s what a hero does. That’s what makes him one of the greatest fictional characters IMO

another thing is that really helps Peter is the world of Superheroes. Peter isn't the strongest hero, that's Thor/Hulk, He isn't the smartest hero, that Mr. Fantastic/Hank Pym/Iron Man, he's not the most experienced hero Wolverine/Thor again, he's not the biggest leader of the heroes, Captain America/Cyclops. Peter can EASILY decide the world has plenty of heroes that they don't need him and with the bad press that follows him, it would be the smart thing to do. But Peter realizes he can still help, he can still save lives, that he has responsibility to help others and so he does. Because that's what a hero does, that's what it means to be Spider-Man

"But Spider-Man can't even benchpress a planet or warp reality!"
No. No he can't. And yet, you'll always see him on the front line of people taking on cosmic threats and malevolent gods. The same way you'll see him on the front lines of saving people from bank robbers or fulfilling Make-a-Wish Foundation requests. Don't get me wrong, he's not perfect. But, and listen up, writers, he's not a whipping boy, either! He's not a man-baby who cries about how life is too hard when he's the one sabotaging his one life. _He's Spider-Man, and with great power comes great responsibility isn't a ball-and-chain around his neck!_

      @SiamHossain7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

You had me in the first half but nah that second part is absolutely wrong, its part of what makes him just as compelling because all people have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot and then lament about their choices; Spiderman mules and reconsiders his choices, he regrets them as much as anyone would but that conviction he builds to move past them and beyond them is what makes him, well, Spiderman, and is one of the most iconic aspects about the character. Sometimes you are just ALLOWED to complain about life being shit because life really is just shit sometimes but spiderman teaches us that whilst it's okay to do that the more important part is to conquer it. Acknowledgment of both is key.

I always debate with myself who is the best Superhero of all time, between Batman and Spiderman. Both are polar opposites in many ways - Batman is rich, Spidey is poor, Batman is human, Spidey has powers, Batman is detached and broody, whereas Spidey is bright, quippy and relatable. But there's something, they both share in common (apart from being geniuses and having the two best rogues galleries in comics) - is that they bare the weight of the world, despite all the personal sacrifices, pain and tragedy it brings them.
Batman is a cold, aloof prick to almost everyone around him, but that's because deep down he cares so much, he feels he has to suffer the pains of the world so that no one else has to. He is so utterly obsessed with his crusade, that he ends up pushing those closest to him away, and his relationships with women almost always end in failure. He is doomed to end up alone, because that is the life fate has chosen him. Yes Bruce is one of the richest men in the world, and has been given a life infinitely more privileged than Peter, but his wealth is more of a necessity to do what no one else can. He is a man who has stared into the abyss itself, and he toes the line of that abyss every night he goes out, but he never lets it consume him. On the flip side, his villains are representations of what happens if you do let the abyss consume you. But Batman is close enough to see the pain and despair in all its ugliness, and despite all that he still strives to do good, and has an iron resolve to never get pushed over that line - despite the Joker's best efforts.
Spiderman however is an everyman, who doesn't have Batman's unrelatable status as a Billionaire. Nope, Pete struggles to pay his rent, can't get a proper job, can't keep a girlfriend - everyday struggles we can all relate to. We all wish we had superpowers to change our life around, to do what is best for ourselves - and how many of us would actually use them for the good of others. Pete despite how crappy his personal life is, never once uses his powers selfishly. He continues to endure his sucky life, despite how easily he could turn it around, because he has the ability to do what others can't. He selflessly goes out and puts his life on the line to help every person or thing he can find, whether it be foiling a bank robbery, stopping a world ending alien invasion, or simple getting a cat out of a tree for an old lady. He doesn't detach himself, and see himself as some superior being, who others have to bow to. He acts like just another New Yorker you can hang out with. He can still crack a joke in the tensest of situations, something Batman can never do. He is the proof that absolute power doesn't have to corrupt absolutely.
I love Batman, and the world of Gotham more than any other comic book universe. But Spidey as a character is my personal favourite - as the ultimate selfless dude, who despite his incredible powers and deeply tragic personal life, can still keep his head up, be a grounded person, and help thousands of people, and ask for nothing in return. He is the personification of a hero.

The reason why Spider-Man works is because he's the first superhero whom everyone can truly relate to. The hero who starts out as nothing more than a teenager who's ignored by everyone around him, just like most kids everywhere. And then through a series of unfortunate events, he chooses to put on a mask and fight for what's right while learning what it means to be a hero along the way, just like how people learn how to be better as we grow up.

Spider-Man is a more focussed version of what Captain Marvel (Shazam) was written to be
Just like how the Raimi Trilogy is a more focussed version of the first three Christopher Reeve Superman films
    - first film is the origin story where the character learns of his responsibility
    - the second film is an extension of the first where the character has been given the choice to be normal and he does however must give up the thing they want the most
    - the third film the character fights their inner darkness to rise above (there’s a lot of rubbish in Superman 3 however the only good thing in that film is the junk yard fight)

His rogues gallery definitely feels more human than Batman's. With Batman, most need him to prove something or enjoy toying with him to the point where their obsession makes them less human or understandable. Spiderman's rogues have their own lives and most outside of Norman Osborn aren't going to lose much sleep if he dies, a little annoyed they didn't get to kill him, but they don't revolve around him and often crossover and cause trouble in other titles.
I don't know if Batman's rogues outside of the big names really pop up outside the Bat Family but it's not uncommon for Spiderman's rogues to randomly appear in something like a Captain America or a Daredevil cover (Carnage even crossed over with Nova and Doc Ock with Hulk). Really adds weight when he feels responsible for them because, in universe, they tend to cause the most trouble.

People tend to forget that in the comics he tried to join the fantastic four in amazing Spider-Man #1 and it was Johnny storm who inspired him to Continue fighting after he lost for the first time in a fight ever against doc ock. And saying that being Spider-Man causes Peter only pain is also incorrect because in the iconic issue 50 of lee’s run in that story, after having a bad day as being both Peter and spidey he hears jameson at the worst time and he overthinks into believing what Jonah is saying is right so temporarily hangs up his suit. The thing is that unlike Spider-Man 2 his Peter life doesn’t suddenly become better. He finds out that everyone was ok and him being there didn’t change their lives that much but with Spider-Man gone crime increased and Wilson Fisk makes his first appearance ever and tries to take control of New York’s underworld, after Peter relies that he was only overwhelmed with emotion at the moment he gave up being Spider-Man and remembers his uncle(at this time uncle Ben never said with great power there must also comes great Responsibility) reignited his Spirit To be a hero again.

I agree with almost everything you said in this video, but where I disagree comes when you say that the MCU Spidey movies has Peter use the other heroes "as a crutch." The entire point of the story in those movies is that Peter doesn't need the other heroes, and he doesn't need to be like them. In Homecoming, Peter is constantly trying to impress Tony Stark, to prove that he's "worthy," in a sense. But it's only when Tony loses faith in Peter, and Peter is forced to act on his own and be his own hero that he's able to stop The Vulture. He doesn't need Tony to do this, he does it completely on his own.
Likewise, in Far From Home, the entire point of the movie is that Peter doesn't need to be exactly like Tony. Sure, there are parallels between him and Tony, but everyone who disses the movie likes to ignore the conversation Peter has with Happy on the plane. He's lost everything trying to be the hero that the world wants him to be, messed up so badly he feels he can never live up to Tony's legacy, but through this conversation with Happy, he learns that he doesn't need to live up to Tony. This is the opposite of "using other heroes as a crutch." This is just an extended version of Spidey's origin story, as he learns what he needs to be as a hero, and struggles with his own problems along the way. And in a world where all these other heroes already existed, why wouldn't they be a part of his origin? Hell, the second issue of the original Spider-Man comic has him trying to join the Fantastic Four. The presence of these other heroes in his movies, though they do assist Peter from time to time, ultimately help Peter to become his own hero in the end, and at the end of these movies, he's the one who saves the day, without any help from other heroes.

When you think of Marvel, Overall you think of crazy superheroes with these crazy powers. Things like flight, invisibility, electricity, superhuman strength. Spidey literally is just like you but he just has some more low key powers.
Climbing on walls is cool, but in a world where people are flying and entering different dimensions then it’s more simple. He is the most realistic marvel character. He has a good heart but he is broke, lost his parents, basically got his Uncle killed due to his neglectful attitude.
His story and life is even more interesting than his Spider-Man Life. He lost so much and learns from how mistakes and decided to use his powers for hood, making himself a hero instead of being forced to be one from family or friends, he made that decision even through all the injuries and loss. He is an idol to the average nobody and that’s what makes him special, he never credits himself and always is there to help others out even if it costs him something.
He is a teenager but goes through something even people who throw their lives on the line like cops and firefighters would have nightmares over, and he does it daily. He can make his life amazing by fighting back against bullies and telling people who beat down on him why he is always late and isn’t there for them. His costume was man-made and so was his legacy.
When we think of Marvel, we think of SPIDER-MAN. He is someone we can see anyone becoming, the average nobody with great power but using them in the best ways possible.
Miles is just as cool in my opinion, as a young black male I end up looking up to him, his amazing costume, his awesome powers, what he stands for, who he represents, and how he is an amazing Spider-Man to take over the mantle.

    Spider-Man is the best superhero.
Superman needs a limit to how little power he can use; his moral obligation makes him do it.
Batman needs a limit to how much pain he can use; his moral code stops him from doing it.
Spider-Man does both. We know Spider-Man is overpowered can easily defeat all his villains. But we also know he had moments where he simply doesn’t want to or has ever reason to not defeat villains. So he is perfectly in the middle.
His worldview? Take up responsibility. Because criminals don’t, but they can.
His playful nature shows how he extends a healing hand to his villains with the optimism that they can be better.
And yet, he has police radios to seek out danger because he knows there’s always a threat. (Superman calls it the unending battle).
    Perfect hero

@T. rex King As I Spider-Man fan, it’s been frustrating the people I have had to deal with in the real world. So I know tthis “Marvel” (more like Huge MCU fan) in the real world he doesn’t really like Spider-Man and said that Spider-Man is weak and not that great and important of a hero and weaker than Captain America and can barely last in a city compared to Cap, and when he watched Captain America Civil War, he said Spider-Man sucked during the civil war airport fight and was so bad (I told that person that Spidey only had 6 months of experience and that person said that they did not care and STILL expected way more from him).

His old girlfriend died, his best friend turned into a murdering psychopath, his best friend's father raped his girlfriend, his aunt was almost assassinated. Yet, he keeps going because he doesn't want others to feel the pain he does. He's by far the most selfless superhero, and he truly is what every person should strive to be.

I think the comic book series that does the Spider-Man character justice is Spider-Man: Life Story. It shows Spider-Man go through life at a normal pace from the 60s all the way to the 2010s, where we can watch him evolve and grow old. Despite all that, the basis of his character still remains loyal to "With great power, comes great responsibility". If you're a new Spider-Man fan and want to know truly how Spider-Man should be represented the way Stan Lee intended, I'd give Life Story a read. Absolutely brilliant.

The thing that makes Spider-Man so good is the fact that he doesn’t always win and get a happy ending, for Spider-Man to win, Peter Parker has to lose. For example in Andrews universe, he beat the electro and harry but what did it cost? Gwen. In Toms universe, he managed to cure every single villain along side tobey and andrew but what did it cost? Him losing absolutely everything. Which is why its so successful, his powers are so powerful and unique and hes such a great kid with good intentions but life at this point is basically torturing him at a young age yet he still continues to do the right thing

in comics, there are three moments that showcase what makes Spidey such a compelling hero to aspire to
Amazing Spider-Man #33, Maximum Carnage, and Avengers vs X-Men
in these stories, Spidey faces off against impossible odds, no-win situations, and finds a way to persevere.
Amazing Spider-Man #33 was recreated in Spider-Man Homecoming, and also in Spectacular Spider-Man, where Spidey gets trapped unerneath a steel gate and water starts to climb threatening to drown him. He's about to give up, call it quits, but when he remembers those that are depending on him, those he loves, he summons the strength to lift more than he ever had thought he could and makes it out.
In Maximum Carnage, the final issue, Spidey is left alone while all his allies are either gone, injured, or away to get ready for the final fight, leaving Spidey alone against Carnage, Shriek, Demogoblin, and Carrion
in Avengers vs X-Men, Spidey faces off against a phoenix empowered Colossus and Magik in hell by himself in an effort to buy time for the others to get away, to save Hope Summers
