Flysky fs-i6x Cheap and Easy Lipo Mod

- Simple mod to allow your Flysky FS-I6 radio transmitter to run using either AA batteries or a 1S Lipo battery. The converter used is a DC-DC Boost Converter Li-ion Battery 3.7V 3V-5V i purchased from ebay, links to similar items below along with JST Connectors:

The modification is VERY easy, simply solder on a wire to the postive and negative terminals in the battery box, connect to the converter and solder on your adapter of choice. VERY simple. I did it in 20 minutes while taking my time.

Quick Head's up about this mod...You cannot tell what your voltage is on the Lipo, so make sure you start with a fully charged lipo. It will display 5.03 volts until your battery has drained below .9 volts, so be careful. I typically charge my batteries before i fly so it's not much of a concern but i'd hate for someone to fall out of the sky bc the battery drained with no warning.
Chris Sullivan and hey I think you can change the voltage for the transmitter in the secret menu or is that only for flysky i6s transmitter?

@@simtcr apologies, did not see this until now.. with a 900/1100 mah battery from a dead laptop pack, i get about 4 solid hours of flying. i charge it about once a week

@@MadMarcWinnipeg i ended up ripping apart a laptop, using a single 900mah lipo and i get HOURS of use from teh transmitter before it hits 3.3Volts and i recharge.

@@MadMarcWinnipeg cool, it's really straight forward and 1s battery chargers can be had from China for a dollar.
you need add lipo batery inside battery box, and step up board can install in flysky cover near mainboard, and need adjust step up converter output to 6.4V then flysky working good, under voltage work but not far and not good. problem have lot connect radio to plane.adjust voltage up lot.
I have seen several mods to use lipo batteries. I get that people probably have spare lipo batteries that they can make use of. The problem is no lipo gives the correct voltage. Why mess arround? Surely simpler to use a 6v nicd pack?
the 5 v step up works really well for me now for..almost 2 yrs. i also have a step up adjustable if i want to go to 6v. as for the nicd pack, i have none of those handy but i have several single cell lipos. It's just a convenience thing for me and it charges while attached to the transmitter, lasts for days, and cost me a buck.

if you feed 6+ volts it has better range, someone said they used hi volt AA batteries
I'm actually waiting for a voltage step up module to test that. For me, though, 5V is more than enough since i fly micros with tiny rxs that only need to work at about 500 ft or less. One thing i LOVE about the current setup is that it allows me to use a micro USB charger to power the transmitter...so i can literally plug in on my porch and fly around my house without any issues of batteries :) I'll update when i get the step up converter, thanks for the tip
@@Sully365 you need orden 0,5$ step up adjustable board,and 3,7V lipo battery then you can install all in box. 2A about max, flysky not eat lot current ,i remeber need only 300mA max. but anyway, step up neec adjust 6,4V about, 6,6V normal. alarm have 6,0 volt and under volt working but not good and no alltime lot problem have. radio contact.
@@mattivirta my alarm goes off at 4.5 volts. Rechargeable batteries typically give in the 5.5 range and only new alkaline gives me anything over 6. I've found the 5v area to be perfectly useable, just don't use it for long range flying, which i wouldn't use with flysky anyway
It works with a 2s 500mah 7.4v lipo on screen it shows as 6.6 v easier mod

I agree..it's actually a great Transmitter. It has a 10 or 14 channel firmware mod that adds a timer and rssi, it's cheap..easy to use...and the receivers are suuuper cheap. It's just great.
Chris Sullivan I have the fs i6s & I want to get rssi on my osd and well as telemetry on my touch screen for the TX I also have the ia6b receiver that when bound I see RX voltage and below it says” SIG |10 “ and it will count down to 9 or 8 all the way to 0 when it has no signal & if u want RSSI in ur osd with any flysky RX I’ve herd your supposed to go to aux channels in your TX and set channel 10 to ERROR as well as in Betaflight in the receiver tab , but I can’t seem to do that with my transmitter , I have the timer mod software with the 5 model memory and other features do you know why I can’t do this on my TX ?

If you use an adjustable stepdown module. I've heard you get the best range at 6 volts, just don't go over about 6.5 or you could damage parts
Pas besoin de réduire la tension, la i6x a son propre Ubec. Dans mon cas, avec 2S, TxV1 = 7.70 V mais Int V1 = 5.15V.

What are you wanting to do with an ESC and a radio or lipo?
I just think about this,, and i see this...sometimes M happens
simple mod but not good, under volt working sometime sometime not working lot problemn radio contact and no far can use. flysky need up to 6,2 volt working normal good. under volt have only lot problem.
Never noticed a problem compared with the stock aa batteries. I have tried with and without a voltage regulator and noticed no difference so i didn't make the swap permanent, but you're correct, you can add a step up regulator and show 6.3 volts for optimum effectiveness, not it lowers your flight time. I found the 5 bolt range is best for me. That's also the equivalent of 4 rechargeable batteries that are around the 1.2v range.
At any rate, a year later and I'm still using the same battery or a single 18650 from a dead laptop.

Good idea. The way mine is set now, though, i can run anything up to 5 volts and it will get 5 volts. I'm thinking of swapping an upconverter instead and push to 6. I only used lipo batteries since I had many spare cells and nothing to do with them. I now use laptop battery cells and they last a really long time

@@Sully365 I had previously modded mine like you did, but I modded it again to use a LiFEPo battery. What's nice about not using regulators, is that you get the actual voltage of the battery on your transmitter, instead of just the regulated voltage. I took a new XT30 pigtail and soldered directly to VBAT and GND on the main PCB inside the transmitter, and I also kept the stock AA battery connector connected to the main PCB. This way, if the LiFEPO battery runs empty, I can disconnect it and go buy some AA batteries and insert them instead. I just have to remember to not have both in place at the same time=P
@@ojkolsrud1 awesome. I like having the option available for aa batteries, too. I only use a regulator vc i don't know of a battery source in the 6.3-4.8 range
@@Sully365 There are! LifePO4 batteries, like I said, supplies a voltage of 6.6V.

That's essentially what I'm using, which works perfectly! I think the i6 can handle up to 7V.
