Hello! Regarding to the space and charge capacity, What do yo think would be the smallest lipo battery I could use. And based on you experience how long do you think it would last?

Here is some additional information: The controller is actually powered from 6V and not 5V (4*1.5V). Even a little bit more.
The white small connector is called JST PH 2.0, so the red and white ones are both JST, because JST is the company who invented them. You can get these connectors and a crimper pretty cheap in a set and you would not need to cut the cable.
When doing this mod there is a big downside: The controller doesn't detect when the lipo is getting too low, because the buck converter still works when the lipo is discharged too low. and then it will just drop out completely (a quad would just fall out of the sky). That means you can potentially damage the lipo if you're not not aware of that. Of course an alarm works, when plugged it, but that is crazy annoying to me - especially because there is such a function in the transmitter already.
I made a 2S mod with a linear voltage regulator and a few diodes that is much safer, because i tuned the electronics to simulate a 6V battery, where the controller would still warn me when the 2s lipo gets low (at around 3,6V per cell).
However, since I made the mod reversible (no damage), I went and got myself a bunch of NiMH batteries (got 8 of them to switch around), and that's even easier - they don't get up to 1.5V each but that's fine, because they stay on 1.3V for quite long. I find this to be the easiest and most convenient solution.

Neat! thanks for all great information sir. So i take this transmitter is stil a great budget starter :) for now i just use it for simulator. my jumper is still my every day runner.

I tried mine with a 2s lipo direct to the system, no diodes whatsoever... Works fine so far...
Just not sure what's its effect would be except that it wouldn't alarm once lipo is drained bc alarm goes off at around 3.8v..
I guess it can tolerate a direct 2s because AA batts aren't exactly 6v at full charge, they even more.. (1.5v per cell is actually more than 1.5v at fullcharge/new just like any other batts)...

@@joeyvalenzuela4157 I have not checked what kind of regulator there is on the board, but if it's a linear one, then it could be damaged over time and burn out one day, because it would have to dissipate more heat than usual.
It is true that AA batteries usually are more than 1.5V when full, but 8.4V from a 2S battery are way more than six AA batteries with around max 7.1V. If you want to be sure you could check what regulator is on the board (linear or switched mode) and in case of switched then it would be a good idea to check if the output voltage is right (probably 5V or 3.3V).

@@Noxoreos ah yeah right.. you could be right that it might burn out one day... I haven't tried it for that long though.. i will take your reply as an advice..
Though, i would also like to emphasize that the old 2s lipo i used only reads at around 7.8v full.. and i haven't flown long enough for it to drain too much or fry my board up.. hehehehe

@@joeyvalenzuela4157 totalyright buddy, beside if worst case happend you didnt spent much on this starter budget transmitter.... if it was a tango 2 or new from radiomaster i would do little more research. my good old daily jumper t16pro still uses 18650x2 works perfect for me as most of my gear runs on 18650:)

the problem is de buck converter is always connected with the lipo.i would modify the transmitter zo that when i switch off the transmitter the lipo is disconected from the buck converter (i use lion 's )but that is the same .now i can charge with the batterie insde the transmitter .

I added a 2S to this used it for an hour and then the screen faded out and does not turn on or bind or anything. I'm pretty sure I have a 5.6K ohm short to ground(if 5.6k is a short) So next time I will use a step down converter to 5V to be safe.

      @@Just4FunRC Where is this resistor?
I meant there is a 5.6 K ohm short from VCC to GND. Unless you mean something else. The board itself looks immaculate though.
Thank you very much for the condolences.

I read somewhere, you can power it up to 7.4v (2s) without a converter. Maybe it can be powered even higher? Seems someone needs to test it.

yupp. if i recall right it could display up to 6.99v. but should handle 7.4 but 8v im not sure. That is why i installed a tiny dc dc 5v step down :) so i can use what ever 2s 3s 4s i have laying around :D
