    50 years this year, still the only UNDEFEATED team in NFL history , enough of this weak schedule nonsense, doesn't matter , they won them all in 2019 for the NFL' 100th season, they were voted the best team of all time, perfection is perfection, anything less get a cigar

      A few teams went undefeated in the 1920s but had a tie or two. Miami was the only team that was undefeated and untied including the playoffs.

    What a great year! People knock the schedule but they were playing a colts team that had been to the super bowl (1968, 1970 & AFC championship 1971) twice. The a Jets team that had a healthy Joe Namath all season - twice, a Vikings team that had gone to super bowl 1969, playoffs in 1970 (12-2), 1971 (11-3) & the sickly good (& big) Kansas City Chiefs team who won super bowl (1969), picked to return in 1971 (10-3-1, 7-0 @ home) & a New York Giants team that finished 8-6 but had super bowl bound Washington Redskins (11-3) & two time super bowl participant (SB 5,6) Dallas Cowboys (14-3, 11-5) in same division twice each. Buffalo got a new coach Nick Saban who used OJ Simpson well & their improved defense. Lets not forget the Brown's (10-4) & Steelers (12-4). Every week was a near heart attack! Oh yeah, we lost our signal caller, Bob Grieseim game 5 of what would be a 17 game season

      @@billhassell434Boy you really went out on a limb. Those teams didn't do it with a STARTING qb. Some of you guys are making arguments you don't have to make. Even the weak schedule argument is moot. How many good teams since '72 had, I'll say favorable schedules, with lesser teams coupled with injury riddled teams and still didn't accomplish what the Dolphins did? No need to bring up what teams did in '70 & '71 to make a case for their '72 schedule, that doesn't make sense either.

    This was the greatest team ever assembled. Don Shula was quoted to say: this was the most intelligent team he had ever coached! Many of the players had impressive jobs on their off time. I believe that Nick Buoniconti was a lawyer on his off time. This is just one example.
    Overall this was one of the best years of my life and I completely cherish every moment of this glorious accomplishment. This feat can never be equaled because of so many rule changes since. It’s just not the same game anymore.

    I think the 72 Dolphins caught a break by not having to face the Raiders in AFC championship game. The Raiders would have been an underdog and in the 70s when the Raiders were an underdog they won 85% of the time. I think the game would have been played in Oakland. If so then the Raiders probably would’ve been the favorite.

    Then why do many of those that played on that '72 Miami Dolphins team say the '73 Miami Dolphins team was better? Why would so many of them say that? Because they were better in '73! In '72, each of Miami's post-season games was decided by seven points or less. In '73, each of Miami's post-season games were dominated by the Dolphins winning those by 18, 17 and 17 points.
    Boxers have had undefeated records facing nothing but tomato soup cans as opponents. Does that make them the best ever? Until they face a real opponent. Gerry Cooney was 24-0 till he faced Larry Holmes. Strength of opponents matter.

      What matters is Takeaways , The dolphins had 56 and lead the league , That 72 team lead the league in all 4 stats at end of year a record that will never be broken EVER , 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 as the Super Bowl champion , 1st in scoring off, 1st scoring def , 1st points for , 1st points against , Turnovers 56 , That team played the competition of that era and strength of Opponents is really Irrelevant once the league mergers in 1970 , You cannot expect to play an entire season in a postseason 8 best teams format, You make no sense With a 40 man roster playing together as a team of Tomato cans .

    • @davidcobb2693
      @davidcobb2693 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They played a CUPCAKE SCHEDULE! But they did run the table against teams that would have struggled playing against the top college teams of the era. The team that ended their 18-game winning streak was a consistently great team, playing in 5 consecutive AFC Championship games after shutting the Dolphins down to end their winning streak, if it wasn't for a garbage time 4th quarter score, Miami would have been shut out, they managed to make 10 First Downs and they rolled up ( more like shriveled up ) 195 yards of total offense. Many members of the 1973 Oakland Raiders remained with the team through their unprecedented ( at the time ) run of AFC Championship games and were part of the 1976 World Champion Oakland Raiders, considered by many as the best ever.

      @@mr.majestic2667 You toss around Super Bowl numbers like you actually know something but you really NEED to learn what a comma is AND how and where to use them, when you put a dash (-) in between numbers, it indicates through, like if you say, "Before Tom Brady signed with the Bucs in 2020, he was the Patriots from 2000-2019". 2000-2019 verbally stated is, "two thousand through 2019". The way you wrote your comment looks like you think the Chiefs were in Super Bowl 1 through 4 which they weren't and it also looks like the Colts were in Super Bowls 3 through 5 the way you wrote it. IF your level of reading comprehension must be painfully weak if YOU thought I called ANY team "nobody's". The '72 Dolphins Strength of Schedule (SoS) WAS -4.27 (minus 4.27). SoS - Strength of Schedule indicates the combined winning percentages of the opponents this team played in a given year. Higher SoS indicates a tougher schedule, lower indicates easier. The 8-6-0 Kansas City Chiefs and the 8-6-0 NY Giants had the best record among the teams Miami played during the 1972 regular season, the Vikings were 7-7-0, the Jets were also 7-7-0 and the declining Johnny Unitas led Baltimore Colts were 5-9-0. Their '72 regular season schedule gave them 4 games against the Bills and Patriots who were a combined 7-20-1, other heavyweights on their schedule were the 1-13 Houston Oilers, the 4-9-1 San Diego Chargers and the 4-9-1 St. Louis Cardinals. Unitas, Namath and Dawson were declining and even though Tarkenton was still a steady QB, the Vikes didn't have Chuck Foreman in 1972, he was the 1973 Offensive ROY, Rookie Of the Year. You old Dolphins fans are a sensitive bunch, maybe 2023 will be their year, the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV and it took them 50 years to win their next one, Super Bowl LIV, maybe Dolphins fans should look forward to Super Bowl LVIII (58).
