As someone who has been with the same LQA department for the last 10 years, the industry is in shambles. Our department is going to be shut down soon, and a lot of talented people will be gone. The writing was on the wall tho, when you see first hand how much money is being burned due to chasing to wrong trends when people already moved on, lack of direction when leadership constantly changes many components of a game, lack of communication when for example translators don’t get any feedback which leads to numerous audio recording sessions, many pieces of the game still being unplayable even late in the testing phase, etc. But I can tell you that the DEIB department will still be there, tho they contribute nothing to the bottom line. The industry needs a hard reset, in the meantime we’ll have Indy games and massive backlogs to go through. I love this industry, it has been my home as a gamer for 35 years, and has given me work for 10 years. But it can’t continue like this, and more than ever before, people must vote with their wallets.
Thanks for the inside scoop. It's just sad to see it like this... games seem like they were made with more passion back in the day when they weren't such a massive undertaking.
FACTS 💯. Older games are like them old movies. Old movies have this thing that no matter how much times u watch em, it still grabs your attention whenever u come across them & u never get tired of watching them. Same with old games u never get tired of playing them. Mario 64 is a perfect example of this.
Well let's think about it for a sec Overpriced consoles Overpriced games Greedy company decisions Jeff grubb Lazy game story and writing to focus on graphics Stick drift on game controllers Yeah I think I pretty much am *Saying this sarcasticly*
As an RPG lover there is literally Years worth of games coming out. Nintendo seems to be the only one of the big 3 remotely honoring traditional physical media fans.
@@beersmoker4444 that’s actually the problem though. The switch in particular only caters for RPG’s almost exclusively, leaving gamers with a broader taste in games out in the cold
@@bluefox9er Don't think thats entirely true as there are thousands of games, and Nintendo doesn't make only RPGs, its just they haven't realistic Dudebro Actiongames (ok, now they are rather LBGTQ Woke Bros Action Games in Sonys Case) and less realistic Shooters or GTA, which has to do something with companies didn't believe in the success of Switch 1 after Wii U. The Rockstar Dude regreted not to bring GTA (V?) to Switch. Obviously the weak mobile hardware was a factor too (it got late ports or no ports) and while thats not going to change entirely (mobile can't really compete 1:1 with PS5 or Pro or PC ) it should get much better. No one will underestimate Switch 2 and it will be probably just strong enough for most games for the next years. So i guess it will get better. Nintendo making Nintendo Games won't change though. As i am a JRPG Fan since many years obviously i'm not concerned that much, but in the end even as JRPG Fan i had to buy other systems for Final Fantasy or some Atlus games and Tales of. I think that will get much better on Switch 2 too. And at least oldschool western Nintendo games will get more Metroid Prime, Pikmin lives, and perhaps Star Fox will be revived and we could see a 3D Donkey Kong too some day.
Honestly the current state of video games has been a blessing in disguise for me. Nothing new I’m interested in has been coming out so I’m saving money and having a chance to get to my ever growing backlog. Just finished Nioh 2 and might finally be able to get around to Cyberpunk.
I need to clock Nioh 2, Sekiro, Dynasty warriors empires 6,7,8. Samurai warriors 4 empires, Metal Gear Ground zero, MW2 ps4, Blops3, 4, Cold War, MW3 , Blops 6 , GT7........ the list goes on. By the time I've finished ,sweet baby inc, will be in the past, like "Rise of the robots".
I don’t pay much attention to anything other than Switch. I bought it a year and a half ago and I’ve been constantly impressed with the array of old games, new games, and remakes. I heart people complaining about this and that with the console, but to me it’s hands down my favorite system of all time.
I am with you in that opinion as well. It has alot of flaws and made me wish it had more powerful, but i never been so happy nor have I ever bought so many games on any console; ever.
Switch with the most garbage optimized third party games. Kinda sad if switch is the only console you own tbh. Amazing first party for trash third party
The price hike to 70 bucks along with basically everything else costing so much more now has made the decision to buy games change from one of "looks fun I'll pick it up" to "this must be incredible otherwise I am significantly financially hurting myself for little gain". So many games I would have gotten this year I just had to pass on because of the price. It isn't worth the money now. The decision from all the publishers and system developers to do this has basically priced me out of gaming. I'm not gonna reward their greed anymore. (also don't give me that BS that the costs of making games has risen, literally does not matter. The price of good should be determined by the value it brings to the consumer, and frankly no video game released ever is worth 70 dollars)
lol idk which game started the $70 trend recently but I knew all games would follow suit .. & what happened to game companies saving $$ by selling us digital copies so the consumer will eventually save $$ ? They still wanna sell us $70 digital games
Can we please stop acting like $70 is a lot for a videogame. As long as I'm actually getting the full game I really don't mind. The same people complaining about paying $70 are the same people that will spend hundreds in the cash shop of one of those awful online games that nickel and dime you for everything. I was paying over $70 for some games back in the 90's. That is the equivalent to paying $145 today.
@@observer.b_e_l_l_i_s Agreed. It is why I buy several retro games a month. There really isn't much out there for new games. I pre-order new IPs, though.
No, I'm definitely not happy, tired of all the broken and / or bad sequels/remakes made for the "modern audience." Tired of the push to all digital games. I am annoyed with all the gaming journalists talking about diversity and inclusivity instead of actually talking about the game. Annoyed at Nintendo for trying to delete any attempts at preservation from the internet or patenting game mechanics so no one can improve on some of their stagnant franchises. Not saying there aren't some great games coming out in between (Black Myth, Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy, Space Marine, Zelda, Mario) but for the last 3-4 years I've mostly gone back to Retro games in-between each of those rare great games I mentioned.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 It's boring...the gameplay seems to talk more then the game itself. I'll skip, I'll go for the fast-paced action combat RPG.
Switch 2 is on the horizon bringing next-gen iterations of Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Pokemon and everything else for many years to come and I just bought a PS5 Slim 3 weeks ago having a blast with Dragonball Sparking Zero and revisiting my other PS4 games in their upgrated PS5 iterations. So yeah, its all good.
Subjective. Wukong great , silent hill 2 great, rise of ronin great, Astro bot great. And it’s awesome revisiting days gone, dying light and a bunch of fantastic ps4 games running at 4k 60 fps . Soooo not sure what you mean
I've always known the world would end before Nintendo Games would have a home on a console dedicated to powerful visuals and everything that would come with that 😂
This year I’ve enjoyed FF7Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Astrobot, Zelda EoW, Helldivers 2, Shadow of the Erdtree, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Black Myth Wukong, Balatro, Silent Hill 2, and I’m about to get Alan Wake 2 dlc and Stalker 2. Yeah, I’m pretty happy.
Agreed great games for sure 👍 but expectations are not Real for most people and companies so even if a year has the best games in the world made for most people it will still be bad😂 the world we live in lol😂
I've been gaming for 30 years now. And as a primary PC gamer, I remember the dark ages of the mid-to-late 2000s. There has been some genuinely great games this decade, but gaming overall is in a sorry state. You have... -An industry that's openly hostile toward its own customers, often outright saying it wishes to replace them -A fringe ideology that has infected every aspect of Wester gaming. Which is being driven, somewhat ironically, by activist private equity firms, rather than customer demand -A competency crisis resulting in games looking worse, playing worse, having terrible writing, and getting released incomplete and broken -Developers who view any legitimate criticism at best as "noise", at worst a personal attack, and throw online temper tantrums like petulant children -A culture of toxic positivity (which is really just narcissism) within the studio system feeding the above. -Rising prices but a decline in quality -Lack of innovation in hardware and gameplay -Unchecked corporate greed that has resulted in predatory practices like microtransactions in games targeting children -Censorship of titles both new and old, especially East Asian titles -A culture of racism towards East Asian developers and culture from Western devs and games media -A decline in consumer rights, including the loss of physical releases, online requirement/DRM, and the shift towards subscription models. "You will own nothing..." -Unsustainable budgets -A glut of predatory live-service and gacha titles, which are also unsustainable -Industry consolidation resulting in less customer choice, and feeding a lot of the predatory/anti-consumer business practices. -A preservation crisis for older games It's mostly a Western problem, but some of these issues are present, or becoming present, in the East as well. Both Nintendo and Sony for example are very anti-consumer. It's sad because things could be so much better. Even the young people have a lot of the same complaints us old timers do. It's like the whole industry just collectively decided that they're entitled to our money and that we'll buy whatever slop they throw our way. That was true for a while, except it's not working anymore. The whole thing needs a hard reset. Because I'd argue we're in a worse state now than 83. Back then it was really just one big company that pooed the bed, and the Western scene shifted from consoles to home micros (later PCs). Now the industry is a lot bigger, and is falling a lot harder.
I don't agree that competition necessarily brings out the best from these companies. Nintendo is doing their own thing and I'm far more satisfied with them than any of the others for like 3 generations now. #IwataWasRight
There’s a lot of great stuff out right now, and a lot of bad stuff too. But what’s important is that no matter what type of game you prefer, there is plenty out there for you to choose from.
if everyone hopped on xbox 360 era games like gears 1-3 or cod 4/black ops 1-2, or halo 3, I would buy those again instead of spending money on this generation console or games
No. The fact that we can’t have game preservation due to copyright violations is absolutely absurd. I feel the copyright system is being abused tenfold as literally everything is considered copyright infringement or patent infringement.
@@hass556He's referring to how your copy can be taken away, even if you have it physically. You can dump the game you have physically. Even GOG doesn't have DRM with the copies they have for you to download.
I’m cool if game companies wanna make stuff that’s inclusive of more people. But I do wish the industry would move back towards the “target market” idea, where you find your niche and go all out trying to cater to the customers. This whole “try to appeal to everyone” thing hasn’t really been working for me.
As an almost 50 Yr old guy. I've always been a nintendo fan boy.. even thou I had the ps1 and 2 and truly loved them. My nintendo was always my 1st point of choosing.. I bought a ps5 and had it for about 6 weeks before I sold it. It was just not for me... so I'll carry on with my switch until the switch 2 is released.
I'm similar, except I'd gladly support Xbox over Sony. People forget how Sony has behaved since entering the industry, buying up studios & paying others not to put their games on Sega or Nintendo consoles. They tried to put Sega & Nintendo out of business (though bad decisions by both helped with that), and almost pushed Nintendo out as well. They STILL pay for 3rd party exclusivity despite nether Nintendo or Xbox doing so. And now that they've cornered the market again, they're going right back to all the scummy business practices, price increases of games/hardware/services, going back on their word, pushing all digital, barely releasing any of their own games, etc. Sorry for the rant, but the Nintendo & PC fanboy in me doesn't like how Sony operates.
@@Pswayze23oh stop it. All companies have done trash moves. They ignore it cause of the rose tinted glasses they have on for their favorite plastic boxes
For me it was after 6th gen. 7th gen was cool but the 6th gen had so much hits, so much variety & they just felt different & unique. No 2 similar games felt the same in the 6th gen era. Now everything is just copy paste.
They will continue to triple-down on the things that make them fail, even as they continue to fail more and more. It's either because there aren't enough personal repercussions for the individuals doing the work, or because there's "dark money" propping them up, or a little bit of both.
I’m just about done with modern video games. I’m tired of all the nonsense being pushed, the corporate greed, unfinished games, and gaming journalism, just to name a few things. This console gen has been a disaster from the start with the ridiculous shortages, scalpers, and developing games for previous gen has dragged out way too long. And now we have all these people who think they can’t work in an office because it’s too scary for them to go outside and see people in person. I’m more interested in retro and indie games these days over any AAA game or anything backed by a big corporation that’s not Nintendo.
I’m hyped with the industry man, I watch you and spawnwave everyday. You guys do work to support the industry and are doing a great job. I got a ps5, switch, and even an Amazon fire stick and I got to say I’m happiest with Nintendo. And with modern day systems like the Anbernic handhelds, you can enjoy retro games on modern hardware. So yeah man, it’s an exciting time to be alive and I appreciate all you do for the industry. Keep on fighting bro!
I’ve been playing video games since the mid-80s. Back then I just played what looked interesting. I didn’t really read the video game magazines so it was usually word-of-mouth on which games were good but I played a lot of duds also. I never thought about the state of the industry. I just played games and I usually enjoyed myself. I still try to do the same thing nowadays, even though I do watch reviews for video games and have a lot more information at my fingertips. With that being said, even though there’s things in the game industry that I don’t like like micro transactions, always online features not having the entire game on the desk. I just don’t buy those games. I buy the games that I am interested in, which is usually single player games like Final Fantasy the game is on the desk even though it does have to download onto the console. And I don’t play games with micro transactions, or that require you to be always on line. Every year there’s a lot more games that come out that I’m interested in and I can reasonably expect to finish. So long as that’s the case, I don’t care about what else is happening in the industry. I got enough crap to worry about that. Actually matters without getting obsessed with things that I don’t approve of in video games. When I am not able to find games that I like anymore, I have a big enough backlog of games that I own that I want to play that I’m not even worried about it. I think people need to spend less time freaking out about the state of the gaming industry and constantly complaining about every little thing and just have a good time playing video games. I’m so sick of hearing people complain all the time. I generally try not to click on negative videos like this, but it seems like that’s all anybody wants to talk about.
One of the best times in console history was the Ps1 and ps2 era, because the amount of creativity you had at launch from other companies other than Sony. Twisted metal, bloody roar, nightmare creatures, tomb raider, beyond good and evil, crash bandicoot, metal gear, Tekken, gran turismo, syphon filter, ridge racer, resident evil. Amazing. Wish I still had some of those games!!
Certain industries that have influenced the over correction, as you may, have a baby consultation firm within it that I heard have only had 30 out of 80 games they have consulted on released. This has me worried for upcoming years, it takes time to right a sinking ship... It might not be under water, but the AAA industry is taking on water with the path ahead looking similar to the path that got them here.
Im not happy, but Im also happy. Im not happy because I see alot of stuff happening in the industry that's ruining gaming. And I dont think publishers will change. But at the same time I'm happy, because I think the problems the industry is facing is going to bring a gaming crash that will fix these problems. And maybe 10 to 15 years from now things will be better. Yes, many publishers will probably shutdown or become smaller, but new publishers will appear and approach gaming in a positive way. As for how I think I'll consume gaming, I'll go with a combo of Nintendo Switch 2 (for Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2 games) and Steam Deck 2 (for Xbox, PlayStation and Steam games, and also emulation). I think it'll be the best way to game in the next 10 or so years.
Spot on RGT. Whats funny is that the average age of a gamer is getting older and older. That means there are more older players like myself in our late 30s early 40s, than there are new gamers coming in. These companies need to keep that in mind and realize we just want gaming the way it was during the PS2/PS3 era. Ive been exclusively on Playstation since 97 and this may be my last PlayStation because the company has just become something that is so far from what they were.
Indies and JRPGs right now are doing really well. I think the bubble burst on AAA games though. People will only take companies trying to milk them for all they've got for so long before they nope out. Not to mention how ideological a lot of these publishers/developers have gotten in the western industry in particular. No one wants to play through a sermon on your world view just make good games. It was inevitable the AAA market would crash and I think a lot of these indie to AA developers are making a new market to replace it. Once the AAA collapse finishes we'll probably have another decade or two of developers who actually care about what they're making and their fans. Though when the industry starts ballooning in profitability again, which it will, investors will get involved and we'll be right back to this point where companies are only interested in making money and could care less about the quality of their product or what their customers want.
One more thing from me while I'm ranting. Folks, the word "than" is spelled with an "A" not and "E." These are two different words...."Then" refers to time in some way: "I went to the store, THEN I went home." The word "than" refers to comparing things: "I like Spawn Wave better THAN RGT," or "RGT is a better Nintendo TH-camr THAN anyone else." See? Then=time, Than=comparing.
I see games I like and I play them. -People being fired -Woke games -Gaming journalists -Self important TH-camrs -Gaming franchises None of it matters.
As someone who started playing during the Gameboy era, I'm completely unimpressed with the state of this generation. I was holding out for a PS5 Pro but I am unwilling to pay the "Concord Tax". I have also found that the past few previous generations are also on decline in terms of hardware (i.e. my original XBOX360 that wasn't supposed to Red Ring, did; a bought a newer model that now has disk tray issues and the hard drive is starting to fail, my PS4 Pro also has tray issues; the only thing that has stood the test of time is most of my Nintendo Consoles --- GB Colors still work, DS and 3DS still run fine, Wii also in good condition). I'll comeback when all the ideologies are flushed out of the gaming industry. In the meantime places like Steam and GOG will have my money, I can wait for exclusives to hit those services whenever they do. I'm still a fan of having physical copies of games and everything I own I plan to replay. I don't even know what to do with these games I've collected, now without a system to play them on.
I found out last night from an old friend who works in the industry that they receive funding from the Canadian Liberal government to push their agendas. As a Canadian tax payer, I'm not amused. He also told me that some of his own devs wanted to give some of the characters the Sweet Baby Inc treatment for a re-release/remaster they're working on. He was having none of that. He shot it down immediately. I thanked him.
I don't like modern games the same way I don't like modern TV shows or music. they're just characterless and soulless and not for me, I already know of decades worth of amazing memorable special meaningful content. if the world stopped tomorrow, and you could gather your top 20 favorite movies, music, games etc of all time, I don't think many would be from the last few years. all the best games of all time already exist.
I would agree. Gaming got too big there for a moment and a lot of people got into the business not to make games but to just make money. I feel those are the ones getting hit the hardest right now and hopefully the just leave.
The state of the industry is very bad and guess what? I’m ok with it. Let it all burn to the ground. Got tons of backlog to play and never cared for the +AAA games anyway. A restart might be just what the doctor ordered. Smaller games, taking less time to produce with more fun to play. Not company loyal. Currently playing mostly on the Switch, but if another company comes with an improved system with the gaming experience I like, I easily “switch” over.
I currently enjoy the games being released so yeah you could say I’m enjoying where gaming is at right now. I think if you solely focus on all the bad stuff such as DEI, “wokeness”, and micro transactions then yeah you’re going to hate it. But if you get off of social media and just play games then you’ll enjoy it wayyy more as a hobby, that I can promise you.
Man, I love this generation. So many games to enjoy. Is no longer traditional with exclusivity and next gen only games, but the catalog is amazing and is that what matters to me.
Not only has there been a lack of creativity, but also a major lack of quality software and performance optimization. More and more, games ship unfinished, buggier than ever before, and their runtime performance characteristics are abysmal.
In 20 years there will be no major flagship consoles or PC's. People will just have TV or monitors which we will stream everything to. Gaming companies will all be subscription based.
Other than Concord, PlayStation had an awesome year as did Nintendo, the one that is in trouble is XBOX where its consoles aren’t selling, gamers are rejecting it, DEVELOPERS are rejecting it, GP is a dead end, it’s just failure after failure 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
No. Too many remakes and remasters and not enough original games that are actually good. Every other game launches in a sorry state, lack of interesting content or lacking in content at all. I could go on fr. There are still good games being made but overall this generation has been a disappointment
Because when original games are taking 5-8 years to develop, costing in excess of 100m and requiring 150-250 people to work on them, only for stuff like DEI to totally ruin said games, developers are finding the risk with making original games a lot more... Well riskier than it once was. For every one Elden Ring, getting 2 or 3 Concords is not a sustainable business model for the gaming industry to be in. Hence why we get a lot of remakes and ports. Because those are at least safe bets.
@@devilangel4655 this is basically the issue, games taking 5-8 years to make while consoles last for 6-8 years. The math doesn't math up, it's also not the fault of developers because every single generation consumers expect better graphics, faster load times, more content and they don't want to pay more for it. Meaning we are now in the era of diminished returns, games from previous generation to this generation don't really look much different, the experiences were even better, yet the games for this generation cost more to make and take more time. The industry isn't able to sustain that because it stifles creativity, it forces developers to make ports and remakes, too afraid to take risks and the situation is only really going to get worse. Nintendo always the wise player, saw the coming so they made their consoles one generation behind, this was the clever thing to do it seems. Guess they knew what was going to occu.
I'm glad you make this video because this has been racking my brain when it comes to the console market and their direction. Especially the end part where these companies are trying to be Hollyweird and games are pretty much loosing their stang power to have us show up for them.
if we talk in general, no, the gaming industry is in a very bad place, nintendo can ignore a lot of it because it has it's own games and is a different platform, but the slop we get on pc and ps5, even on xbox, is laughable, the continuous sad remakes (demakes) and the political activism in video games is bringing too much bad quality slop
I think that over correction you talk about is on point and not all companies are dei invested and i'm very excited for the future, especially from asian companies, i think there is alotta potential to make awesome games with the hardware that is out now or gonna be out soon. Games take alotta time to develop, so we just gotta be patient, alot. 😺
The fact of the matter is that for us 30+ gamers, the best days of gaming are very much behind us. I've pretty much stopped purchasing anything made by a western studio bc it is usually dogshit and stuffed with garbage ideologies.
All they do is use old content and rehash and resell it anything new sucks because they don’t have genuine creativity. We are literally getting 2024 games with PS3 graphics and textures. 😂😭😂😭
I don’t think the current game industry and environment can survive on the current model with the lack of ingenuity, high costs, less physical media, long cycle times, subscription services, and microtransactions. It’s got to go back a bit before they can really advance further and shareholders will not be happy from the big few.
My thoughts on the industry are it’s too expensive. 70$ for a video game is too much, especially for games that are broken or you might not like. PC parts are expensive and scalpers make it worst. I also feel like there’s not much of a choice anymore
I haven't been happy with modern games or the video game industry for at least four or five years now. Good thing there's indie games and Nintendo. Which, aside from their hostility towards their own fanbase and the emulation community, seems to be one of the only major corporations in the video game industry that has not completely lost touch with reality and what gamers want.
Yes, we just got the absolute monster that is Sparking Zero, Silent Hill 2 is apparently really good, and Warhammer has been popping off. Games that deserve success find success now.
Overall? No. There is little excitement. Every game feels and looks the same. Social media is ruining the ability to have your own opinion and just enjoy something. Clout chasers leaking and spreading rumors ruin lives.
I'm extremely happy. I don't even want to imagine how broke I'd be if they still made good games. For starters, my wallet would have been a hundred bucks lighter when Star Wars Outlaws came out. I'm so thankful that Ubisoft made that game so bad that I didn't want it.
It means whatever a Republican doesn't like on a given day. How that fits in with a video about the current state of the video game industry, I do not know.@@cineologist_
As an overall industry, no. I’m not happy with it. However, there are a lot of positives that are happening in the industry. For instance, the indie scene is bringing a lot of the creativity that the AAA developers/publishers seem to be lacking.

I started gaming just before the first crash. Games got so much better for a while after that. I believe the games peaked during the PS2, Xbox360, Dreamcast, and GameCube life cycles. The modern games have focused on everything but having fun. It's all about micro transactions instead of unlockables. I'm all for DLC to expand a games life with more added content. Just bring back the fun. Get rid of surprise mechanics and pay to win. Bring back co-op couch and online. Friends want to play together and not always to see who is the best. MORE CROSSPLAY! It shouldn't matter which way you choose to play, not all friends want xbox. Not all friends want PlayStation. Some even want to play on PC. Make it about the games. Console wars have been done, everybody lost when physical games shifted from the focus. Digital should cost less! Physical should work off of it and not a must load on HDD to play. File sizes are ridiculous and out of control. Keep up the great work RGT! -OVG-
It’s happening right now. We will look back on 2024 and maybe 2025 as the woke video game crash. It’s not like every studio will do giant layoffs or close down all at once on the same day or week
One of the primary effects of the on going gaming market crash: 5-8 years required to make one AAA game when consoles tend to have a 5-8 year life cycle. Clown: "sO wHeN iS tHiS mAgICaL "gAmE cRaSh" GoInG tO hApPeN" You actually can't make this stuff up 😂

Collections of some of the best games come out. We have so many options that if you are bored that is on you. It's mindset thing to appreciate or hate.
I know a lot of people don't take Roblox seriously due to the demographic, but people tend to forget that Roblox is a game engine and a platform for its games. So I'm personally keeping up with a lot of high-quality upcoming games that are actually pushing the creativity and imagination that it was originally meant for. As for mainstream gaming, I'm also looking forward to many indie games that will release next year. I'm not going to bother with PlayStation or Xbox anymore.

Retro is still the best gaming.

I've been gaming for 30 years now. And as a primary PC gamer, I remember the dark ages of the mid-to-late 2000s. There has been some genuinely great games this decade, but gaming overall is in a sorry state. You have...
-An industry that's openly hostile toward its own customers, often outright saying it wishes to replace them
-A fringe ideology that has infected every aspect of Wester gaming. Which is being driven, somewhat ironically, by activist private equity firms, rather than customer demand
-A competency crisis resulting in games looking worse, playing worse, having terrible writing, and getting released incomplete and broken
-Developers who view any legitimate criticism at best as "noise", at worst a personal attack, and throw online temper tantrums like petulant children
-A culture of toxic positivity (which is really just narcissism) within the studio system feeding the above.
-Rising prices but a decline in quality
-Lack of innovation in hardware and gameplay
-Unchecked corporate greed that has resulted in predatory practices like microtransactions in games targeting children
-Censorship of titles both new and old, especially East Asian titles
-A culture of racism towards East Asian developers and culture from Western devs and games media
-A decline in consumer rights, including the loss of physical releases, online requirement/DRM, and the shift towards subscription models. "You will own nothing..."
-Unsustainable budgets
-A glut of predatory live-service and gacha titles, which are also unsustainable
-Industry consolidation resulting in less customer choice, and feeding a lot of the predatory/anti-consumer business practices.
-A preservation crisis for older games
It's mostly a Western problem, but some of these issues are present, or becoming present, in the East as well.

Nintendo is winning at the moment that's about it
Certain industries that have influenced the over correction, as you may, have a baby consultation firm within it that I heard have only had 30 out of 80 games they have consulted on released. This has me worried for upcoming years, it takes time to right a sinking ship... It might not be under water, but the AAA industry is taking on water with the path ahead looking similar to the path that got them here.
Take me back to 1996 when video games were king!
It’s kinda boring. Sandbox is like fix your own lunch restaurants. Wash your own car or dog.

This year I’ve played, final fantasy rebirth, Mario vs donkey kong, paper mario ttyd, Zelda echos of wisdom and silent hill 2

Sweet baby is ruining games. That is all
I found out last night from an old friend who works in the industry that they receive funding from the Canadian Liberal government to push their agendas. As a Canadian tax payer, I'm not amused. He also told me that some of his own devs wanted to give some of the characters the Sweet Baby Inc treatment for a re-release/remaster they're working on. He was having none of that. He shot it down immediately. I thanked him.

It’s got to go back a bit before they can really advance further and shareholders will not be happy from the big few.
Honestly nobody is making bangers except Nintendo
And Atlus.
L take. SEGA is thriving
My thoughts on the industry are it’s too expensive. 70$ for a video game is too much, especially for games that are broken or you might not like. PC parts are expensive and scalpers make it worst. I also feel like there’s not much of a choice anymore
There is nothing to be happy about.
Finally someone is speaking facts with current Nintendo as of today.
RGT's is indeed my favorite Nintendo TH-camr, and the thumbnail is confirming it indeed.
I'm extremely happy. I don't even want to imagine how broke I'd be if they still made good games. For starters, my wallet would have been a hundred bucks lighter when Star Wars Outlaws came out. I'm so thankful that Ubisoft made that game so bad that I didn't want it.
i will never support anything woke ever
That word is bullshit.
Yup me either those people are mental
Define “woke.”
It means whatever a Republican doesn't like on a given day. How that fits in with a video about the current state of the video game industry, I do not know.@@cineologist_

I’m very happy with the games industry. I play 12-16 good games a year. And don’t get around to play another 4 great games I don’t have time for
I am fucking tired of all negativity. Despite this: there is so many amazing games 2017-2024.
As an overall industry, no. I’m not happy with it. However, there are a lot of positives that are happening in the industry. For instance, the indie scene is bringing a lot of the creativity that the AAA developers/publishers seem to be lacking.
I'm good with Nintendo. I sold my other consoles because I got tired of waiting seven years for games to come out because they put graphics first.
I miss the old 90s early 2000 video game days
No. Nuff said.
Too Many People Complaining About Gamespass .. Had It 5 x Years Now & It’s Best Value In Gaming .. Never Stuck For Something To Play & Played Games I Never Thought I Would Which Opened My Eyes To Other Genres I Now Love 🎉
Keep up the great work RGT!

woke devs making propaganda and gas lighting the fans is how ive seen the industry in recent years.
Facts.
My Dissatisfaction is mostly just console gaming. Its too expensive and you really aren't getting much anymore.
So when is this magical "game crash" going to happen? We're all waiting.
It’s happening right now. We will look back on 2024 and maybe 2025 as the woke video game crash. It’s not like every studio will do giant layoffs or close down all at once on the same day or week
It's click bait. Ignore it.
One of the primary effects of the on going gaming market crash: 5-8 years required to make one AAA game when consoles tend to have a 5-8 year life cycle.

@@BingChilling-hr1hh I'm checking the sales and it's going crazy well for studios. Sony has had a monster resurgence in game sales this week in Japan after months of not doing great. Echoes of Wisdom is tracking faster than Link's Awakening and could make it to the 10 million mark. And didn't that Silent Hill game just get declared the fastest selling entry ever?
Face it, this "game crash" is all in your head.
@@gligarguy4010 one week of Sony (a Japanese company) doing well in Japan for just one week (first week in nearly a year)... Is nothing to be happy about... Because you know... Its JAPAN 😂....
Still working on Kid Chameleon. Been working on it for almost 30 years. Really hope I beat it soon. These new games look INSANE. One day. One day.
I'm busy playing games, instead of complaining about the state of the industry. This noise is coming from a bunch of entitled whiners. 😢
Haven't watched the video yet but my 2 cents.
I don't like the state of it, but I don't think games are bad either, I do think everyone (including devs) are too political. Which ends up making people hate games, people hate other people, devs Hatings devs, people Hatings devs.
We used to just not care or buy a game. Now it's all about shouting how much something is wrong to you and why.
And consolar warriors moving to social media has grown the toxic players.
Its easy to hate a game but it's hard to enjoy a game without having people hating your guts just because you like something. God forbid you like something social media hates. You can't talk about if you do prepare to be lambasted.
Gen Z and millennial gamers think it’s more fun to count frame rates than play fun, engaging games so sadly, the industry is catering for them
Exactly bro. There is such a hyper focus on graphics & technical aspects of video games right now.
*Younger Millennials* and Gen Z.
Gen X and Older Millennials are very different.
We remember the days when games were fun and didn't have to look spectacular, though it was always a great bonus.
@@Jaxxon123 Millennials born after 1989, I'd say. They're a completely different generation from millennials born before that.
If you don't mind waiting for games. It's the best time to be a gamer. Prices are competitive for digital or if you are on console physical. You can emulate some of the best games made.
I am happy. Honestly, there needed to be a slower generation for me to get caught up on all the backlog that I had. It's so nice to start getting caught up.
Im very happy with gamepass, thanks for asking! 😊
