If I recall, the cling gel was scrapped due to it causing sickness in testers, no matter what they did to it. They tried to change it into a new laser-reflecting gel in an update post-release, but scrapped it for... some reason.
The laser gel was basically replaced by the redirection cubes because they were much more mobile and versatile than basically a wall with two states for the sake of lasers

You need to hurl yourself over the invisible wall. - Level 9 exists, but it is very broken, which is probably why it wasn't included in the final game - I don't think there are actual hidden secrets, other than maybe that you can play in the main menu and that there is a checkpoint far in the void in that level (also that one little sticky ledge in level 5) - In the files exists an unused song that most people say is the best song in the game and should have been used in the levels - The sticky bug you had is actually really weird, as I myself have never experienced it (same with anyone else I know) Source for these facts: I'm a speedrunner of this game (3rd in any%, 2nd/former WR-holder in low%) and data miner Speedrunning the game is fun and we are always welcome for more people to join and try it out

After being re exposed to Narbacular Drop in the video I went down a video game/ early internet rabbit hole. Seeing all the stuff that Kim Swift and Eirk Wolpaw worked on. Wolpaw made Old Man Murray, an old video game journalism forum. One of the last posts was about 9/11. That just shows how old it really Is. An old ass picture of Wolpaw in a cemetery is still viewable on the website lol. The 90s internet was really a different time. I look back at these people, and they were the same age as me when they did all this, now, they’re 20 years older. They’ve worked on some of the biggest games in the industry and have the experience that most of us now can only dream of. It was so much fun reading about their careers.
fun fact, in case you didn't know this: the reason Valve didn't put the wall climb paint/gel in Portal 2 is that in longer play sessions people got horribly motionsick from it because it would flip your camera around a lot

Yup. Portal 2 originally wasn't going to have portals at all. It was going to have the player solve puzzles with the gel gun instead. Fans didn't like this, so they instead added the gels into the second half of the game as puzzle elements.
Actually the sticky gel is partially implemented into the game, but It has no texture, and it doesn’t work anymore. supposedly the combination of the wall walking and portal mechanics made some of the testers motion-sick. So valve didn’t include the gel in the final game.

Woah, the Digipen thing reminded me of Nitronic Rush, if you haven't played it before I *highly* recommend it, it's another free student game that's like racing... survival rocket car parkour shit, I don't know how to describe it but it's a blast to play and it has an awesome like tron vibe to it and I know they made a more fleshed out successor to it but I just love the feel of Nitronic Rush more.
"I can imagine getting stuck at that flinging puzzle (in Narbacular)" i'm pretty sure the portal 2 commentary goes on about how much effort went into visual and level design to actually get players to think of solutions like that. So yeah almost certainly it was a major stumbling block.
The one other portal hack id recommend is Thinking With Time Machines. It's a cute hack that adds a new feature and takes maybe 2-3 hours. Definitely not a priority compared to other hacks like Portal Stories Mel.
