LUXEMBOURG. 3.6 times as big as Singapore. (999 sq. mi) in size, and measures 82 km (51 miles) long and 57 km (35 miles) wide. 16 teams. So that's one every 90 minutes. Perfect....
It's very interesting to hear a foreigner's perspective on our league and country in general. This was interesting even for me as a Singaporean. Seemed like you enjoyed it, pity about your luggage.
@@FootyAdventures The Malaysian league is a lot more vibrant and better supported. You will love it, some real die-hard fans there. Singapore had a team which used to play in the Malaysian league back in the days. Most Singaporeans will say those were the gold old days.
@FootyAdventures Can't wait for that one mate I managed a team in Malaysia called Johor DT their chairman must be rich because after winning the league in the first season he gave me 10.million to spend. Can't wait to.see you visit this team so I can learn more about the team I managed on FM!
Stadiums in Singapore are built and maintained by the Singapore Sports Council, they're all community sports facilities. The clubs pay to use those stadiums as their home grounds, so that's why you could pretty much walk into any stadium at any time of the day.
Just to point out, the young lions (U23 team) also helps to facilitate players serving National Service (mandatory conscription) to continue training and playing professional football. There are plenty of takes on this (a lot disagree with it), but the motivation is to limit the hinderance of National Service on the progression of young players. Even more for you to be weirded out about :)
On the VAR question which you had towards the end of the video. Due to the small and connected nature of the country, we adopt a “centralised” VAR system where the Video Operation Room is centralised at Jalan Besar Stadium. So essentially on match days, the VARs report to Jalan Besar Stadium no matter where the match is played. Another interesting fact about our league.
Ah great videos once again Sam,I lived and worked in Singapore nearly 20 years,I absolutely adore that country and it’s fantastic people, thanks so much for bringing back so many happy memories I had during the years I lived there! ❤ 🇸🇬
Great job. I think you captured all the idiosyncrasies of the league (A Bruneian team, a Japanese team, and a local U22 side). Even though Albirex has won the league so many times, it is not allowed to be the Asian Champions League representative, so it will fall to the local side that finished the highest. The league used to have a French team as well (Etoile FC) as well as a Chinese team (Sinchi FC). Tampines Rovers has the honour of having Jermaine Pennant turn out for them before.

Interesting to see a different picture of our local football league thats for sure and props to you for pronouncing most of the names correctly. If you're ever in Singapore again, definitely check out Lion City Sailor's new training centre because im sure you'll be amazed and it'll be a great piece of content!
Fun fact. The most successful SPL team doesnt even exist anymore. Warriors FC who last played in 2018 has won 8 SPL titles, 5 Singapore Cups and of course they were the first Singaporean representative to play in the Champions League and won their only game against Henan Jianye of China. Too bad they were mismanaged financially and had to fold up in 2018. They were based in Choa Chu Kang Stadium and Tanjong Pagar replaced them in 2019.
It would be nice if you could come and watch the Singapore national team play too If we qualify for the second round for the AFC WC 2026 qualifiers 2nd round, we face Thailand , China and even South Korea Would be interesting if you went to Jalan Besar or the state of the art national stadium to see Singapore take on this challenge
Sad you didnt expand my fave team Hougang United. They are currently the Singapore Cup holders, winning their first silverware 42 years after their formation. Also Grant Holt has credited the club for reigniting his career, before he left Hougang for Barrow. Also another famous name who played for Hougang was former Crystal Palace player Andre Moritz, who have recently retired after spending his only season for Hougang last season.
Amazing coverage and commentary mate! Really refreshing hearing your perspective on local football stadiums and despite being a small country we have a strong love for football that's only growing more and more! Really appreciate that you tried pronouncing the various stadiums as how we locals do. Sorry to hear about your luggage situation but really encouraging to see your positive attitude nonetheless Hope you enjoyed your stay and looking forward to more of your videos!
Spurs vs LCS might be a great opportunity, happening on 26 July. Dortmund did also play LCS during the world cup at Jalan Besar Stadium, that includes Emre Can and Donyall Malen
Glad you managed to visit our unique league system. It's still a very new league and more should be supporting the talents hopefully we'll find the crowds coming in once again.
The Brunei DPMM FC usually play in Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium back in Brunei but the renovation is still not completed and hopefully you can visit Brunei to watch DPMM play and watch the local league
Mate just remember that Liverpool will be playing in Singapore next week so if you could fly back from Thailand and you will get to see the national stadium where you just ended your video. Thanks for doing a video on my home country.... it is a very hot country and sadly, our league doesn't get much support from locals. Most people tend to watch the PL - with a big Liverpool, United and Arsenal following.
8:50 wrong, hougang United 's original name was marine castle, they were formed by a group of Newcastle united fans that live in Marine Parade. Go ask Grant Holt and Liam Shotton they were our former players. From then this club has had several name changes

The Young Lions model used to be somewhat common in ice hockey. Slovakia and Belarus used to have their U20 national team in their top pro league, and Red Bull Salzburg has a U23 team that plays in a pro league Austria/Italy. It’s an interesting concept but not sure how well it works
Before the Singapore premier league in 1996, Singapore do not have any pro league. Singapore national team played in a soccer league as a team in the Malaysia soccer league with other Malaysian state teams. And from the 1950s to 1990s, Singaporeans only supported 1 team and the home team plays in the old National Stadium with a capacity of 50K Those were the times when the soccer atmosphere and crowds can be comparable to major European teams when all in Singapore are soccer mad.
Oh man! You beat us to it! We had plans to do this! Fantastic video. it was exactly what we envisioned but done better! thanks for dropping by in Singapore, sorry about your luggage but seriously, this is one of the few videos we've seen about our local league and stadiums. The Football Association of Singapore should be paying you for promoting the league this way. Hope you get your luggage! Cheers!
Singapore's stadiums/sports complexes double up as community sports facilities. That's why they are open to public. With such a small land mass, we do have to maximise the utility of our sporting infrastructure. Singapore invited overseas teams in a bid to raise the standard of the league & give local players exposure to foreign styles of play, thus the invitation of Albarex Niigata. Brunei DPMM's invitation was also part of our common history as well in the M-League, as well as our close international relationship.
Jalan Besar is the Office of FAS = Fooball Association Singapore. Also the Singapore Team was also many times winners of the Malaysia Cup (Malaysia Premiere League).
Very very Cool... So much info about a league and the teams playing in it, that most of us (ok, a lot of us) knows next to nothing about :D ... THANX for every second !!!!
Think of the potential of the dying shopping centres of the UK. I don't think the slick fancy sports facility vibe of the Singapore one is exactly the vibe for the UK, but what if an abandoned department store was stripped out and turned into some kind of slightly grungier version of the above, cram some seats or standing where there was space around the edge, the enclosed space and the city centre location with a National League team or a Scottish League One team in it, packing in a couple of thousand on a Saturday, could be a really cool way to revive these spaces and create a new kind of atmosphere. And for the first time in our footballing history teams would be moving to their most central location ever instead of to random development areas beside a dual carriageway near nobody in particular. You could then get some pop-up bars in the adjoining space. Many have parking spaces and bus routes already in existence. I'd be down in a flash as a neutral.
Borrow the concept from the Qatar world cup stadium where they use shipping containers to build the makeshift stadium and pop up shops or food trucks like what you allude to?
