Hi Bill, just wanted to let you know that i really appreciate your videos especially those meant for interviews. I’ve graduated a while ago in international business so not even specialised in Finance& Accounting, and without any work experience related. But only by watching your videos like a week or two, I have revised so much of the financial knowledge (even understood it more now), become a lot more confident during the interviews and successfully got myself a job as Financial Administrator with a very good salary. I can’t thank you enough for what do on this channel. I will keep watching your videos and wish you all the best in your career!

I am an introvert and I am good at FP&A. You don't have to talk a lot. What's more important is when you open your mouth it's value to your stakeholders.

I agree. I wouldn't say FP&A is for extroverts. Sales is definitely for extroverts, but anything in Accounying/Finance an introvert would do well in. The biggest difference that an introvert may not like in FP&A is that you'd have to be comfortable doing presentations, but that depends on the company. When I worked in FP&A, VP and CFO handled all presentations. FP&A has more creativity since you're creating forecasts and various reports/graphs/presentations. Accounting is booking things that already happened, so not much creativity there.
Accounting tends to be more routine than FP&A.

Hi Bill...i believe that accounting is also an art and wouldn't require that typical person of an introvertive personality. Some people might have all the skills but lack the social impetus to secure their dream jobs...so its good to have a blend of academic and social skills

Hello Bill and Maria, my job title does not match with my responsabilities. In the company I work for, my job title is financial controller, but I do not manage any balance sheet, P&L, income statement, cash flow, etc. (Only the deputy CFO does that in my company).
I'm in charge of the labor cost analysis & reporting, payroll lead & management, income tax & sso management and payment, sales forecast-analysis-reconciliation, AP & AR, import & export cost, assets and depreciation management, bank reconciliations, input and output bookkeeping, international order creations, claims & refunds, logistics, etc. (All these tasks I do for several countries, as we have offices in different locations. Btw, this is an e-commerce company). So basically, my work is related to finance, payroll and operations/logistics. Do you know what job title is closer to my responsibilities? (In my department organization chart, I'm in a middle high position, over the accountants and below the deputy CFO. I directly report to deputy CFO with some tasks mentioned above)
I'm looking for new job, but I would like to assign a correct title to my current role. I think financial controller is not correct and could make recruiters get confused.

    • @TheFinancialController

I think your title is correct based on the duties, thou I will say you have a few duties slightly out of norm such as logistics, but generally your title is correct

By the start of 2023 I will be looking for a new job. Would it be a good Idea to work for a mid-size CPA firm 2-3 years to be able to get experience in Tax and Audit and then move to the private sector? If yes, What type positions should I be looking towards in the private sector?

    • @TheFinancialController

Yes, good idea. And in private you would look at Accounting Manager

Can an introvert be a Partner at a Big 4

Senseless question, being introvert has a almost nothing to do in your career success. I'm introvert and bit antisocial but it wasn't an anchor to become regional finance vp. What the board values are results and measurable value to deliver.

Only F500s have FP&A teams. You’re far more likely to be a CFO after being a controller. The only non-F500 CFOs I know of come from accounting backgrounds.
