    Everything is in favor of Rafale expect the per hour cost.
    IAF has long experience in operating French aircrafts, so that will be an added bonus.
    Shifting production line to India would be a game changer for the economy. More orders after this 110 from other customers will also follow through.
    Although all these promises of ToT are just for names sake whether it's USA or Russia or France.
    Unit cost can still be perfectly justified for reasons like 14 hard points, 1852km of combat radius, nuclear capable, Spectra, Meteor, Scalp, towed decoy, very high availability percentage etc.
    Moreover Rafale has been heavily used in different combat theaters and successful and only F/A 18 shares the same operational experience.
    Next important thing is the French offer to revive the Kaveri project and the assistance to develop another new engine from scratch.
    IAF has to somehow figure out a way to reduce the hourly operating cost.
    Also Indian Navy needs 57 fighter jets and the plan should be to keep similarity in the platforms to take advantage by sharing the usage of the several facilitating infrastructure.
    Navy might go for Rafale F4. And this would be the last foreign fighter purchase for Navy too.

    • @subarnosinha8042
      @subarnosinha8042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not for the next 10years Rafale production line isn't moving to India. French have only recently started work on F4 version(Indian version is F3R) which will enter production in 2023-24. Jets will be produced for the next 5-6 years, 2028-29. Only after that, production line can be moved to India and it'll take around 4-5yrs to dismantle the line in France and setting it up in India, 2033-34. It would be pretty worthless during that time, this entire exercise.

      @@subarnosinha8042 The way things are shaping up it is more and more looking like none of the aircrafts in the MMRCA 2.0 & MRCBF deals are suiting india's purpose and future requirements completely. My heart always said that all the funds and effort should go completely towards the development of KAVERY engine, Tejas 1A, 2, TEDBF, and AMCA.
      But again the head rings an alarm bell which says that the squadron size is fast deleting, so we need to buy something on a fast track.
      Still I would vouch for the indigenous platforms any day any time.

    • @debajyotidutta6795
      @debajyotidutta6795 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@subarnosinha8042 IAF had already publicly declared in early 2019 during BSD's tenure in a press interview, that for IAF it is last foreign combat aircraft purchase for India. The fleet of support aircraft looks good for now. By the time they'll retire I'm sure NAL, HAL and some private player will develop an Indian aircraft for that.
      The only challenge is the jet engine. Our scientists can still get around 10 years of breathing space to crack that. The SARAS aircraft from NAL is very promising and is just the beginning.
      In the helicopter domain we have already on the path of self reliance in terms of design, development, features, performance etc. The only challenge is HAL's production line. That can pushed.
      For IN, they have always been the champion of indigenization for decades. So unless it is a geopolitical equation, like in case of the 2 frigates from Russia or a complete lack of indigenous technology like in case of SSK submarines or naval guns, or missile systems or 'signal' systems IN will always want Indian stuff and Indian stuff only. It helps them to maintain the very critical aspect, which is 'control on their systems'. That is why few foreign vendors have backed out of strategic partnership model for the SSKs.
      For IA, which has been the major playground of the firangi touts and their Indian slaves, the tide is slowly changing. ARJUN M1A, ULH from Kalyani, Tata-Kestrel WhAP, sniper rifles from SS, bulletproof vests, new assault rifles from the OFBs... are just the beginning and very promising one.

    One important point is that the production line of Dasault Rafael is not large in comparison to Boeing. Dasault would take 7 years for supply of 36 Rafael after the date of signing of contract, then how much time they would take for supply of 110. The depleting squadron strength of IAF should also be kept in mind particularly in view of increasing security threats posed by China. The delivery of weapon systems by US has been very fast as compared to France and Russia.

    My suggestion is to get Rafael 36-72( even used f3 should be fine if we can for 50% cost along with help from France for Kaveri engine ) for the airforce and 36 fa18 for the navy both with spare parts indegenised . (Wishe list) Since USA is planning to stop production we can ask for assembly line in India so we can sell FA-18 to other countries, which will also help us maintaince cost cheaper. Same with Rafael if they agree to assembly line then we can add more Rafael’s to airforce. Long term (10+ year) plan should be to bring tejas mk2 (500+) for interception role and AMCA (100+) for air superiority role. Imports should be only so we can cover this period.

    I feel Saab Jas Gripen is amazing, they are offering whatever tech they have, the engine is American but in terms of tech transfer no one is going to give engine tech, if we are able to localize line replaceable units and get tech for their gallium nitrate radar, it would be amazing. Also Gripen is a network centric fighter jet, being single engine it has low operating cost and faster serviceability, but the only catch is Tejas as a program should not be affected.

      It's the same engine as Tejas mark 2 and amca, the engine will be made in India but the avionics is British which we will have to import. Having f18 for navy, Saab for the airforce will go hand in hand with our indigenous planes as they share the same engine.

      The IAF already has a super maneuverable heavy payload jet in the form of Su-30MKI which are scheduled for heavy upgrades in engine and avionics department making it all the more capable. Moreover F/A-18 is a strike fighter jet, not an air superiority fighter and is being widely used as the primary aircraft across US Navy and USAF, who as we all know are not novices to this game. It occupies the sweet middle ground in terms of operating cost, purchase cost and maintenance. And if India is about to make every jet operated by the armed forces to be indigenous in origin in the future, then all we need is a capable low cost alternative for the time being. That extra money could be implemented in development of AMCA and LCA Mk II. So no point in going for an high priced jet just to fill the time gap until indigenous jets are operational.

    Rafale is going to be the clear winner. There is no point in buying only 36 Rafale jets as it would be extremely expensive to maintain such a small fleet. Plus, going for any other fighter other than the Rafale is going to be a logistical nightmare. F/A-18 super hornet is a great jet but America ain't so trustworthy. Plus, US would not allow integration of nuclear weapons on the F/A-18 super hornet. We cannot integrate nuclear weapons on our Tejas because of presence of American engine.

    Highest possibility is India going to choose Rafale inspite of comparatively high price...
    IAF has futuristic vision & Rafale fits in it... because of this India all ready paid for Indian specific customization in advance...
    No Airforce is spent on infrastructure.... training... weapons...only for 36 jets...
    There are chances with Rafale India can use indigenously developed weapons in it...
    And there was news that India might deal more 70 Rafale.... but IAF denied it completely.....

    Rafale is definitely the best of the pick but price is a big concern. We also need to balance our relationship with USA. Therefore Choosing between F-18 and Rafale would be a big test for Indian government. And as the presenter rightly said you can’t get everything, you either have to spend more and get the best or spend lesser and chose a bit inferior fighter jet. May the best fighter win and help Indian Airforce. Jai Hind.

    Navy super hornet cost around 66 to 70 mn USD but rafale m cost around 130 mn USD. our navy has plan to buy 57 carrier fighters. It would be wise to buy super hornet block 3 at half price of rafale m (marine version). But airforce rafale f3r or f4 be a great choice.

    India ko MMRCA-2 Mai super hornets purchase Karna Chahiya. Rafael's are too expensive both purchase and operation wise, but India's has already spent on infrastructure and training for 36 rafaels so it makes sense to purchase 36 more under followup order clause. Last but very important India will retire 350-400 old fighters viz Mig-21, Jaguars, mirage-2000, Mig-27 in next 10-12 years so to make up shortfall in numbers India should buy around 100 Mig-35 with information clause under Govt to Govt deal.

      Your patriotism is appreciable. But indigenous aircrafts, atleast those which occupy the middle weight and the heavy weight or even 5th gen capabilities are no where near production even in the next 10-15 years. Proper deployment is another matter altogether. Meanwhile the existing jets like Mig-27, Jaguar, Mig-29K are getting outdated and nearing the end of their lives by the minute. So what is India supposed to do for the time being? Lie between two hostile nations, one of which is a major world power helpless and defenseless? Purchasing forgein tech is not A choice but the ONLY choice for the time being.
