This idea that games are "rare", nope, not really.
Let me tell you the scam. Some collectors buys 100 or a 1000 cartridges of something that is relatively rare, rare because nobody wants it, or it's not popular, or whatever. they they sell ONE item to THEMSELVES in some roundabout way for LOTS OF MONEY$$$. You might even have a group of fake collectors selling "among themselves".
This establishes a "market value". All of a sudden you have a bunch of naive people trying to buy the "rare game" (nobody wanted 2 months ago) because the prices are SKYROCKETING.
I'm pretty certain I played this game at my cousin's house in the early 1980s.
I doubt that is an original copy of the game

I remember Pepsi Invaders being mentioned in DYKG Pepsiman, but they barely talked about the Atari game other than being a Space Invaders clone. Also the Kool Aid man at the end, made me laugh! I just bought some Kool Aid Bursts few days ago! Oh yeah!
That must have been where I heard this from. I was guessing Guru Larry since "here's a license you didn't know existed" with ultra obscure games that I actually didn't know existed (unlike a list from TheGamer where it would be things like "Spongebob TV plug and play" and "atari donkey Kong").

Hey Chris, if you wanna find more rare games to review, I know of this one McDonald’s computer game that came on a disc with Happy Meals during the 2000s. It was about fitness, but I remember it having Ronald McDonald saying the word veggies.

When everything started turning into Pepsi I was worried that Pepsi Man was going to pop up.
Was looking for this comment. The premise was definitely copied but still an interesting episode.
When Pepsi started the Pepsi Challenge they initially had it against Coke and RC Cola, but when people tended to prefer RC Cola they dropped it from the taste test.

Where to start? This was a silly choice for Coke because in Space Invaders, the invading force ALWAYS wins in the end. No wonder they put a timer in.
Technically, this is an incredible mod for 1982. Atari's limited hardware and sprite capacity makes programming games a nightmare at the best of times and it was worse in 1982 before modern development tools existed. The guy who modded Space Invaders did an amazing job.
1. Having DIFFERENT letters on the same horizontal line is incredibly hard to pull off. The original game had identical aliens on each horizontal line so this was a big programming change.
2. The mothership and gunship in the original game are monocoloured. Changing them to multicoloured ships requires interrupts to be added, meaning that the rest of the game's clock timing had to also be changed to make sure that the rest of the graphic elements appeared in the right place. The programmer might have had some nul commands he could turn into interrupts but if not, it would have taken him dozens of hours of programming just to accommodate the changed timing.
3. The end screen is an additional imposition on memory limitations and a complete programming change.
Finally, there is currently a copy for sale in an Australian retro game store (of all places). It's currently on offer for AU$3000.
