Really makes you wonder what colabs we may have had back in the day if it were always as simple as some texts and files sent over email...
I mean every legendary jazz player jammed with every other legendary jazz player, so we don't have to wonder.
george clinton and the p-funk era were sending cassettes back and forth, each "peeing on it." it is definitely faster now, tho, the process, so long as the focus is on point. cheers!
i thoroughly enjoyed writing this song with you Mr Wong 🎉
💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This very much feels like a Snarky Puppy tune, especially the horns. Awesome as always :)
I thought the exact same thing when I heard it.
Check out the band "New Sound Underground." Kevin played keys in that group as well, and it's definitely inspired by/in the vein of Snarky Puppy. Damn I miss seeing them rip it up around Mpls in the 2010s.
I just heard Grid Generation live and it melted my face off 10/10
Same... I'm still recovering so I have to be careful with the tracks I listen the next weeks.
I text Louis Cole all the time to play on my tracks too.
"Louis Cole is a singular voice on the instrument of the drums, and music in general, of our generation ... a one of a kind musician!" Absofuckinglutely! Truer words were never spoken.
Cory, I agree with you about the guitar solo. Very nice, sir. Very nice.
I have only recently recovered from my addiction of listening to this 500x/day by locking myself in a sensory deprivation chamber. I emerge, this comes out, and the earworm returns.
Thanks for a great breakdown of an awesome track.
This song slaps! I would love to someday hear an entire LC/CW project album, I think that could be really fun.
LC/CW/LC feat Lucky Chops
Add Lettieri and Dart and boom!
LC with Fearless Flyers works insanely well I think. Absolutely no hate against Nate Smith tho.
It'd certainly be one of the tightest, funkiest pieces of music you could hope for.
This was an instant CW classic. I remember my first time hearing it, the amazing drum solo followed up by the perfect guitar solo totally blew my mind. 😂
Louis really is one of a kind. I remember seeing Clown Core on adult swim, like that could only be Louis Cole.
That guitar solo so fire,Cory…..
Wow, this was so great…..
I’ve been binging this song for the last month and to find a half hour breakdown is so exciting. That vibrato at the end of the Moog line has always stood out to me in the final mix, adds so much.
Awesome ON THE ONE! // "The Grid Generation" (feat. Louis Cole) Video.
Thank you for breaking down your creative process and revealing the birth of this tune 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻!!! The first time I heard it, it seemed obvious to me that it was a piece to enhance the horns section, and now your video shows us how well they are complemented by the other instruments. It’s the kind of tune that seems very “thick, massive” at first, then the more you listen to it, the more you pay attention to the details, and the more you like it, and now here comes your video to finally shed light on everything. Very good and complete composition 🎼🎵🎶 pumped up by a lot of energy 🔥💥⚡ with epic collabs 🎸🎷🎺🥁🎹🎸!!! Great job, Mr. Cory Wong 💓☮✌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 !!!
adding that flute to the verses is such an underrated touch, makes it feel so much more like a Louis Cole tune
Truly one of my most favorite songs, perfect drums, perfect guitar solo, perfect horns, perfect bass, perfect melody, and it always makes me feel great, no matter what time of the day. I have no idea about Cory's idea behind the title, but for me it is the theme song of the times we live in, the grid generation
I was hoping for On the One for this tune. This is all sick! Thanks
this song goes so hard and has been stuck in my head since it came out
how tf does ur grand piano just fit so neatly into that pocket of that room like that what the hell thats amazing
the guitar solo shreds my guy
Thank you for this format, it's my favorite thing to watch.
And this song is also a banger, love it!
🤩
This is absolutely the killer track of the album - please make a whole album and tour with this band and Louis Cole!
Michael’s bass trombone part is such an incredible texture in the horn arrangement 💗 killer as always Mr. Wong :)
Completely agree on this being your best recorded solo, Cory. Burning!
CORY AND LOUIS? Dream pair omg
Louis is an absolute _monster._ Talk about sounding like midi. Incredible musicianship on this track and that guitar solo was *VERY* tasty.
jay webb is so good
this is indeed such a fun live starter song.
would love to hear kevin's original demo
Always loving these!! I hope Aces with Big G is next, when I heard that track I was like woooah Dom and Cory, on the same track??? Yes!!
Waiting for that Jay Webb MIDI plugin 🎺
Oh my... those horns are exquisite!!!
now THIS is THE ONE i've been waiting for
YESS!! WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!
Love these videos!
Kevin RULES! PB & The Jam + New Sound Underground! Minneapolis RULES!
What a treat to get a closer peek into some LC production…. Thanks Cory!!!!!!
One of the most awaited collabs, thank you for the insight!
I learn so much from every one of these videos. I want one with Michael Nelson about his approach to developing orchestrations
One of my favs! Super fun watching you break it down
Nice Caribou Coffee on the desk. Much love from a fellow MN’n!
Was hoping for this!!!
Came together so well. One of my faves on the album!
friggin amazing song man. my favorite for sure
This song absolutely RIPS. That does it. I'm getting a crew together to do remote recordings!
Love this tune! Thanks for the break down, it was awesome 🔥
Definitely inspiring as always
I’ve been dying to see this one!! My favourite song of the album. Thanks Cory!
Amazing track!
This is one of my favorite songs of yours
Absolutely love this one, the baritone parts, the drums and guitar solos, the bass shining at just the right moments, it's all so tight. Thanks for making these deep dive videos!
So stoked I found this and thanks for posting
So cool sharing all this information. Amazing !!!!
My CW Signature Strat just got here yesterday. My son got incredibly excited that it can play "The Sackboy Song" (Vulfpeck-Cory Wong).
Love these vids and your dynamics approach
Best song on the new album
Great sounding tune, loved the solo around 15 minutes.
One of my favorite picks from the album next to Acceptance and Brooklyn Bop, Michael Nelson has written such a killing horn section and somehow, Louis was able to keep everything so tight and precise!😆 Hopefully Acceptance is next😍😊
This is fun!
Saw you do this live in London. Definitely one of my favourites of yours, so great to hear how it was put together! You're a legend.
I’ve only recently been tuned into your music. Man, really glad you exist. Giving me air to my music lungs
Saw you play this track in Manchester recently, totally amazing. I never go to gigs anymore as I work in the industry (foh sx) but your live show was astoundingly good. Thanks DG
First time I heard that drum groove without knowing who it was I was like "man, Cory Wong should bring Louis Cole for something like this" and when I see the song name and feature I felt very silly. It was obviously LC and his unique thing. Would love to see LC and CW live together.
Holy Funk, this song is so awesome, I immediately bought the album on bandcamp
My favorite tune off the new album, so glad you did an analysis video of it! :)
Can't wait to see you in Miami
Cory, many thanks, what really impressed me is your clear explanations about your editing decisions - 'this is what I did, it felt right, moving on...'
And in the real world, if you want to get stuff done and shipped, that's the way to go!
Trust your gut!
This song slaps live! I seen them at the harvest festival in Fredericton, holy smokes...tightest band I've ever seen 🤯
Very inspiring. Don‘t skip the snere sounds, that first sound bad. You are blessed. You are blessed to have these brass players playing. Just a fan….
these episodes make me enjoy the songs more - well done.
now let's roll to costco
solo gives me that rocking sorta Umphreys energy! shreddding!
I'm really enjoying what comes across to me, as a brit, as large helpings of Larry David in Cory's delivery and humour. Somehow makes the funk even better.
My top track on the album and amazing to groove to in London back on the 11th October 🎉
whuuuaatthefrakinnicesounds! praise for sharing this workproces! :D 🙏
What a banger to open with at your concert at the Paradiso. Exciting stuff😊👍🏼. Big fan of Petar by the way, you and him have something special going on…
Another classic I love it and thanks for the peek under the hood
Saw this played live in manchester and what a superb track man
yeaaaaaah saw this live amazing!!!!!!!!
It sounded great live - but it FELT even better with the bass travelling through my soul
@@IAmWorseThanYou yeah I agree 👍🏻💯
G R O O V E APPROVED
Nice solo Mr Wong
Please come to Sydney, Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a dope jacket
That electric bass is tighttttt
20:06 bowsers castle vibe
You are the god damn man, this video is killing and cracked me up. " I put a little tuning on him, sue me, sue him!"
I could go for a Caribou coffee in Minneapolis right about now.
"I started with midi, I get the real cap playing and it sounds more midi!!"
- Cory Wong 2023
🤣🤣
😍
Im hoping you do one of these for Look at Me with Allen Stone!! Love this series
Hell yes! I love this tune. Amazing to get a deep dive.
(& it's day 37 of asking for an "On the One" of Thriller 🙏)
Cory, you’re definitely a south Minneapolis dude, I could tell, nothing wrong with it
That cheeky Caribou in front of frame there....
that phaser delay on the durms...\oo/ ??? good lordy
Dude this is incredible. Can you do a video like this for Acceptance? That’s my fav song on the new album!
I’m not gonna lie I didn’t know Cory played the solo on this one. I would’ve thought Mark played it despite having elements of Cory in it.
Oh you live in Minneapolis? That's awesome, i thought you were based in Cali. I saw you live in Chicago, it was awesome :D
15:54 That just tripped me out, I thought he was directly talking to me for a sec. (But forreal, who IS he talking to; who’s Carter?)
me
Nice Glasses on you!
Thought it was going to be a commentary on how everyone is working on the grid these days and how this impacts the music. Oh well.
I say it Moog :)
