That trick with the whisper track on the vocals makes so much sense. I was so sure I could hear some special flavour on the consonants that I couldn't place
This is such a vibe. Cory always is anyway. The Power Station Tour became available on Spotify right before I had to go in to hospital for surgery. Boring lonely ass hospital room, not allowed to move. Sucks, right? Well, yes, but I had that album on repeat and it made me not go crazy. I mean, I didn't go crazier then I already am. Cheers for that, Cory. But about this song, I actually didn't care for the vocals personally so I didn't listen to it as much. But damn, there are so many elements to it and they're all sick.
I can't possibly tell you how much I was looking forward and hoping for this OT1. I absolutely adore dodie (and FIZZ, DON'T SLEEP ON FIZZ!) and this is one of my favorite tracks off the album because of it. The word of the day for this track is absolutely FUN! FUN FUN FUN!
Shout-outs to mamma Wong with that bass surpise. Always gotta put on for da mamma. If I were in Cory's position, I'd do the exact same. I'd cry and tell the world about it. Good stuff. 😎👍
By the way we went to the concert tonight in Paradiso Amsterdam and we loved all the vibes, energy, craftsmanship, and joy you guys put in this. Hope your leg will get better soon, it took 'Meditate' to the next level 😉!
Just did a gig yesterday with a young talent that loves Dodie. (Monster was one of the songs we did) Woke up today to this video! Love "On The One!" Thanks Cory! Looking forward to more collabs with a few friends And looking forward to seeing you in February?
YESSSS LETS GO! Was waiting for this one when the song first dropped. I love the choice to have Dodie doubling her vocal parts with whispering, it creates such a unique feel to the song
You totally can speed up/slow down with and without fades in Pro Tools; look under Audiosuite, pitch shift, Vari-Speed. You've got options for fade, extend/fit to, speed up slow down. Loved the breakdown!
the collab I didn't know I needed it! I listen to you and dodge for years but never would have thought you two would collaborate someday, everything is possible nowadays, internet and social media done right
Thank you Cory! I love and appreciate how you break everything down. It’s ultimate cool how you share your creative process. When I hear the completed song, my mind will flip back to the creation of it. Sooo dope!! 😎
These videos are amazing, thank you. Every one helps me appreciate the song even more knowing all the little bits behind the scenes. I love hearing the little imperfections in tracks that I can't quite hear listening to the whole song too
The level you operate on is amazing. So much respect. Enjoy your music. This video is so cool to see behind the scenes for me as I am now not just listening to music but learning to play bass.
I saw Chelsea Cutler use the Neural DSP Archetype plugin in her Studio video, so I looked it up and saw the name Cory Wong. Then I searched for a video about how to make a song like Vulfpeck, because I love their chordal movements, and I saw the name Cory Wong. Then I jumped ship and watched a songwriting video from Dodie, and there in the recommendations, THIS video featuring Dodie, and again, Cory Wong. What black magic are you using sir.
Cory, dude. I've been following you since early vulfpeck days. This is cool as heck man, thank you for sharing! you have an awesome producer brain, very cool to have an insight to your productions!
The new album is so amazing, i didnt really start liking this song until about my 5th listen, (when i started noticing all the details in the mix) love to see this on the one!!!!!!!
THERES also a way to do fade speedups or slowdowns in pro tools...u highlight the region u wanna affect and u go to Audio Suite and choose Vari-Fi. there u can slow or speed warp ur shit...same concept, but offcourse just a couple more steps cuz its pro tools
This song slaps so freaking much, dodie absolutely crushed it too. Also, I swear I thought I had heard Phoebe Katis in the background vocals, it just has her style in the shout sections.
Yes, collabs are so mind expanding! Finally you get these additional 2% to 10% more, what brings exactly the spice to create something very special. Great song and album. Bought it a minute ago on iTunes. 👍😎
Cory, you should have the synth guitar part split between 4 guitarist or so live. Each would alternate playing single notes of the arpeggio like drum lines do with bass splits! Especially panned, this would be such a cool visual and audial effect I know you and some dope players (I am pretty available ;) ) could pull off! Sick tune, love your creativity with production!
While I'm personally not a fan of the modern whispery female vocal, this tune is so tight and funky. Thanks for breaking it down, Cory!! Always learn something new from these.
Dodie is my favorite musician. Watching this has been so nice. Probably a better word but I couldn't think of one. It's just so lovely watching the whole process of great music being created. Thank you❤
omg I’m a lil flat in that chorus on the right ear LOL
Loved this so much omg all the lil BITS in the production god wow
Ha, this is ace dodie. Seeing Cory tomorrow. Saw Theo and Joe last night. Manchester. Any chance you might turn up??
SAME Theo was immense! Cory tonight, secretly hoping for a surprise appearance :P @@chriswright2553
i am watching this again and the ferris bueller bit is making me LAAAUGGHHHH hahahaha
My wife and I have been listening to this song nonstop. So so good man.
That trick with the whisper track on the vocals makes so much sense. I was so sure I could hear some special flavour on the consonants that I couldn't place
I liked the vocal production on this one. Felt like dodie was sitting next to me. The whole song has a very intimate mix, actually. Very cool.
I thought the vocals sounded mumbled and muffled. Maybe it's my speakers.
That's her style. Very detailed and soft. Personally I prefer vocals with a bit more projection.
@@althejazzman Well she sings 1000x better than me
I love On the One - it's like he's teaching us how to appreciate the song more deeply, and all the cool nuggets to listen for!
Even your breakdowns have crazy good production quality. How are you so naturally entertaining?!
Dude. The snaps in the mix are perfect. Love the trem on the overheads. I'm going to do that
Blows my mind to have you describe all the different components that make up the tune. This is so complex and creative.
These guitar/synth arpeggios are absolute fire!
There's about 15 minutes of sick ambient music hidden in this track
but does it earth core??
SO MANY great ideas here... awesome. And that bass is crazy good.
Oh man, I've been into Dodie's music lately, hugely excited for this.
Love this song.
Great insight. Thanks, Cory.

Thanks for taking the time for these break downs! They're really inspiring and makes me want to start recording songs myself!
YES. More On The Ones! Also, love this track. Dodie is amazing. Some days I get the arpeggios from this song stuck in my head all day. It's great.
I so love this tune .

I absolutly love this format

Good stuff. 😎👍
Love this vid and the track! Has a bit like that menu song vibe from one of the old need for speed games.
Found it! It's 'Get low' from Lil Jon & the east side boyz
By the way we went to the concert tonight in Paradiso Amsterdam and we loved all the vibes, energy, craftsmanship, and joy you guys put in this. Hope your leg will get better soon, it took 'Meditate' to the next level 😉!
I LOVE THIS SONG
I'm not going to be able to make it to see you in Dublin - this time- but please come back.
Love the vox production

These videos are so helpful. I'm looking forward to the song you're in from Spy x Family Season 2. That was such a surprise.
Love on the ones, especially the editing in this one. Super tasteful, yet very fun and enjoyable

Love this track and especially Cory's production techniques. The best producers know when to let things slip from the grid. Oh Yeah !!🍷
Got to love him at the end. So the reason this all worked out...and also...oh and also....and also....and also... killing it man
Always love the breakdowns of your songs. Super fun.
Can't wait to see you in Dublin Ireland.

This was so awesome. You can really how much experience and music knowledge Cory has.
Sick video! Love to hear about your thought process with arrangements and production!
Hell yeah! Still hoping for a Thriller 'On the One'! But this episode is sick! So much cool production in this track.
Those Sterling drums are insane
i would love to see the breakdown for look at me
For whatever reason this reminded me of the type of stuff Brian Wilson would do. Well done, thoroughly enjoyed.
Hi Cory. Saw you and band in Copenhagen. What a show, what an amazing electric vibe in the room! Please come again! :D
I love these "On the One" series of videos; keep 'em coming! Only one question, though: where can I buy myself a Cory Wong Signature "Tone Spoon"? 😂❤
Just google "Chinese spoon" or "Chinese soup spoon" - I guess that gives you just the right sound. 🥣😃
i luv your video style
Thank you for uploading every time Cory!
Fantastic production. Love dodie, and her quirky harmonies :D
When are you gonna do a track with Lawrence? :)
Great producing, thanks for sharing so much!

Finally another episode of on the one!🙌🙌🙌
Always learn something new from these walk throughs. The whisper tracks - mmmmoooney!
man, i wish i had your mixing skills. amazing!
Whisper vs no whisper gave me goosebumps.
The new album is so amazing, i didnt really start liking this song until about my 5th listen, (when i started noticing all the details in the mix) love to see this on the one!!!!!!!

I saw you live in Stockholm, best show I ever saw!
Oh man, this is super interesting stuff.
I could’ve listened to these drum and percussion fills for DAYZZ!
Uber-fun, all of it ☺️👍
This is fantastic to watch, thank you!
This is brilliant! I LOVE your videos - I love to listen to your workflow I can learn so much! Keep em coming!
I like the Comme des Garçons shirt!
Also, I hear a Tron-filtered Enya note progression midway through the video and from her song 'Aldebaran'.
These videos are freaking awesome!!!
This song slaps so freaking much, dodie absolutely crushed it too. Also, I swear I thought I had heard Phoebe Katis in the background vocals, it just has her style in the shout sections.

It's a fantastic song! One of the best ever in my opinion ❤😊

hi Cory, what service do you use to make your dope woong links?
While I'm personally not a fan of the modern whispery female vocal, this tune is so tight and funky. Thanks for breaking it down, Cory!! Always learn something new from these.
Ahhh 116bpm .. that's the Minneapolis sound secret... love it
Making MN proud man!!
I think I've been secretly wishing for an On The One for this song specifically (I love seeing your process on any of your work).
So cool
On the one!! 🔥🔥🔥
