    Great setup! My only suggestion is to get a canister filter (Fluval makes excellent ones) & get one rated for 2 to 3 times the size of your tank. Turtles are notoriously messy (not just waste but food bits) so you really need a good filter to keep your water clear & your turtles happy & healthy. Those little submersible Amazon filters probably aren’t gonna cut it. Also separating them was a good idea. The older they get the more territorial they are.

    • @RCCarDude
      @RCCarDude ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a canister filter his tub would have to be higher than the filter since it's gravity fed. Also the cichlids should help a bit with the excess food waste, but yes, you're right.

      @vidareptilia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the suggestion! Yes we've used a canister filter before and they’re great! Internal filters are convenient for us since we live in a small apartment. Easier to clean & disassemble 🙂

    Part of the issue is his nails ! They need some hard surfaces to grind down those bad boys ! I have live rocks in my enclosure for them to stand on etc and that helps keep them broke down also a basking area made out of cement blocks would also be abrasive enough to chop down those nails

    I would love to do an indoor turtle pond for my RES! They are almost 16 and are huge now (2 females). I have them in a 75 gallon now with 2 large DIY toppers my husband built. The tank is essentially empty from decor because they destroy or eat everything! I would love to do a large outdoor pond with some Koi, but my RES are aggressive. They eat everything! Well, one is aggressive and the other is an angel baby. The mean one is the troublemaker! Ha

    • @vidareptilia
      @vidareptilia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you’re ok with your fish possibly getting eaten, I would suggest guppies, minnows, neon tetras and tiger barb. You can also try gold fish and cichlids, but they do grow bigger over time. Good luck!

    How did those filters end up doing? I have a yellow bellied slider that I got about 4 years ago. I've gotten unlucky, and he's already 8 inches. His current aquarium is too small, and I'm thinking of making a setup like this

    • @vidareptilia
      @vidareptilia  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not a huge fan of external filters, but those can handle larger gallons. We like the internal filters we're using because they're easy to clean and assemble. So far so good! Marineland filter is also good too.

    Addressing the suction cup problem! You get silicon adhesive and apply it to the inside of the suction cups and then apply to inside of tub, you might want to use duct tape to hold whatever you are putting in there!

    Do you know if turtles prefer glass?? Like are they more bored when they don't have glass to look through?

    • @vidareptilia
      @vidareptilia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I say glass aquariums give the turtles little to no privacy and the open space makes them think they can swim through the glass which can be stressful for them. Whereas
      tubs is more secure which makes them feel more comfortable and safe in their surroundings.

    • @stevendiaz2257

      It’s possible, but it’s always tricky housing pets together. You can try and slowly introduce them together, but please close monitor them for a few hours to check for aggression & see how that goes (RES tend to be more aggressive than pink bellies). Good luck!
