It’s AWD. How are you surprised?
It’s funny that EVERY SINGLE VIDEO has someone complaining about transmissions/races not being fair/times etc.. just enjoy the damn video for what it is, there aren’t many videos like these out there that we all haven’t already seen. It’s Friday guys, lighten up and enjoy! :-)
Seriously. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
@@its.Andy1 yep. I see people complaining it’s a manual Elantra but if it were the DCT people would be complaining it’s not fair bc manual vs DCT with the type r and wrx.. just enjoy it for what it is. Kids fail to realize that Sam is spending money making entertaining videos for us
I don’t get how people are complaining it’s not fair, them being all manuals makes it the most equal.
@@Fadic4 that’s what I’m saying haha people just don’t make any sense
@Fadic4 it's not about equal its about which is better in it's best form not making one slower so it's equal
As soon as I saw a Manual Elantra I knew it was gonna lose. DCT would made it much more interesting.
...plus it's probably not octane learned either, does make a difference. As an EN owner myself I hate the "excuse maker" greatly because we're saddled with it.
I see what youre saying, but given that the type R is MT only, MT vs MT seems most fair.
@M4B21S88 yeah we get it for sure😇
@@M4B21S88Even then, this EN driver was doodoo buns at launching. Go watch the U-Drag video from Edmunds. The EN 6MT was able to launch better than the CTR in both races in that video.
It's just blatantly obvious that most TH-camrs also just paint the N in a bad light when they drag race it........ Sam can't do track cuz hes not a good driver. And most people don't go on track and so these 40 year old boys will see a SL race and think this is the better car... Childish..
Id argue that the type R hides Sam's deficiencies as a manual driver. It was obvious in other EN videos with sam driving everyone called him out for sucking in the N he couldn't shift for anything
Excited to see this race. It's a good comparison of straight line performance, but in the real world and driver skill, the results will vary (especially with MT). We know the CTR is slightly better and should be with the biggest price tag, The WRX obviously has it's all season benefits of awd. The N is the best bang for your buck compared to the CTR, ITS, Si, Integra A-spec, GTI, and GLI. I have a Veloster N 6MT and it's slightly slower than the EN, but in real world performance my quickest time on a drag strip was 13.8 1/4, with still room for improvement being my first time.
@@Mr.Bisquik i have an fl5 but I can live and probably enjoy the elantra N as much if not more 👍

Hey Sam love the video!! I would love to see the Elantra Dct against the fk8 type R. As the 6 speed Elantra only makes 276hp as compared to the dct Elantras 286hp!
Let's compare these in the wet and snow and see what happens! I'd say it would be a massacre in favor of the WRX. I went from a Civic Si to a WRX and I'm glad I did!

@@ROVA00 Exactly, that's why putting the WRX only in drag races is the same thing.
@@martlodrld5934 yes and no. The wrx is actually excellent in drag races because the AWD gives it a huge advantage off a dig. The problem for the wrx ends up being weight and HP, which limit it on the top end. Subarus are famous for costing an arm and a leg to make power reliably. I don’t have personal experience with the newer 2.4L engines, but the EJ255 and 257 could not really handle more than 380ish whp before needing to upgrade pistons and bearings to avoid blowing up. In fact, these engines would often blow ring lands just for adding an intake and downpipe without a proper tune.
I can say with some confidence that it would cost at least $12-15k to make 500whp RELIABLY on the EJ’s.
I had a 350whp 2006 STI and I could beat my buddy’s c5 corvette with a launch… but then he’d pass me once we got to around 80mph lol
HOWEVER, the FWD cars really have the biggest disadvantage on a drag race.

I don’t know much about the tuning potential of the type R or the N (and I’m sure they’re good), but for $150 + $700 for the AccessPort, I have an E40 off the shelf tune that gives my VB another 50-60 whp and 100 ft-lbs of torque on totally stock hardware. I do love that type R though. Best looking of the bunch for sure.
@@sbmcneill what’s the $150 price for?
@@waybach $700 for the AccessPort, $150 for the OTS tune from Dmann (Felix performance) or Graham (Boosted Performance) which both give big increase over the Cobb Stage 1 tunes which come with the AccessPort. Their pump gas tunes give another 20 whp over Cobb stage 1, and their E30/E40 tunes give another ~20+ whp. So basically $850 can get you around ~320 whp, 360 wtq which makes it a totally different car. 0-60 in the mid/high 4 second range. No hardware updates. This is purely an OTS tune exercise so if something goes wrong, can fix with totally stock parts too.
@@sbmcneill ohhhh for the tune gotcha, question.. You think voiding your warranty was worth it or do you ever have some sort of regret? I’m on the fence not just for the AP, but to get a AOS
@@sbmcneill yeah the VB is a absolute beast, no mods needed stock hardware it makes so much more power. And just basic mods makes a massive power increase
@@waybach 0 regrets but do your own research. Go check out some VB WRX groups and see for yourself how reliable this engine has been so far in the tuning community. You will be hard pressed to find a failure, and the ones you do are pushing 400+ wtq. The OTS tunes completely transform the car and are no where near it's limit.

Damn too bad they choked the Wrx from factory only 12 psi of boost stock. But when u turn it up to 18 psi with an intake on pump gas it’s a mid 12 second car. Trust me I had one and it moved out
Exactly, the performance ceiling on the wrx is way heigher due to fa24 and awd, only thing holding it back is the transmission

The rolls runs are far more indicative here, wrx is way behind the other two.. realistically no one will launch their wrx at 5000rpm to get away that quick so for the rest of the time, it’s slow it was gobbled up by the Elantra N and type R on the rolls

Cool showdown. Pretty much the results I expected. I wonder if you would also have to pay a duty tax to buy the WRX in Canada and then take it back to the States.
Thank god u stopped caring about 0-60 digs. Road courses are in another world
We need to have Elantra n manual v. Elantra n dsg…. Do the same with the gti…. I’d like to visualize what the added performance of the dsg actually looks like
A gti with the manual "felt" subjectively quicker than the DSG when i compared them back to back but its probably not with a stopwatch... its the extra control and ability you have to keep it in the meat of the powerband with a manual that gives that impressionj... absolutely fantastic ,mechanical feeling short throw shifter in the gti..For laughs ,I test drove before these new 23 model yrsgti's, I tested a 2016 that had an intake, exhaust and what seemed like a tune... it had a dsg also and it would roast the tires in 1st, 2nd and thru 3rd gear with 2 people in the car.!..neither of the new cars had anywhere near that much power... felt over 325 whp easily, maybe more...that one didnt look anything special, a real sleeper, but would have eaten all 3 of these cars here for lunch
The old N still wins all around. $13k difference before taxes and IF you can find the R at MSRP. The performance gap isn't large enough to warrant $13k+ more. The 2024 Elantra N looks way better than the other 3 cars, sounds better, and you can get it with a DCT, which is the better transmission.
😂😂 looks better lol looks like a pile of l shit no road presence at all compared to the ctr

WRX was surprisingly good considering it’s down so much power and 300lbs heavier. A mild tune, CAI and exhaust and it’s the best of these 3 cars hands down!
Dumb comment. Tune and mod the other cars and the WRX is last again. What a dumb comment
with just a tune my man.... a Dmann ots tune on 93 is 315whp.... thats not even talking the 340 ish torque... just a tune... yes... with an intake, FMI, and mid pipe, that civic will struggle to keep up at any power level less than 500whp, and even then it will only pull up top like it did here. The type R is amazing out of the box, but once you start adding power it really falls apart. its pretty much at its limits for functionality.
@@juanticimothat’s just not true… it the type r would struggle to keep up a tuned wrx yes is nice and can max out at what 380-390 whp before you need to worry about the transmission a fbo type r can push above 400 no problem and as always it’s a few hundred pounds lighter from a dig it will struggle but roll type would eat a Subaru

Waiting for all the subi owners to say if you just mod it a little it will perform better, but this is a stock for stock comparison. Not sure why so many peoples feelings get hurt over this stuff
So we learned that the N is a great bang for the buck , yes it didn’t beat the type R but was close and its way cheaper . Both are track cars more so not drag so I’m curious how track times would compare . If you over spend for a type R good for you but if I wanted a car like this I would do an N with some engine mods . 2. The axles/bearing are all new. Lighter and stronger (less unsprung/rotating mass)
3. The engine, transmission and suspension bushings are now polyurethane. (Much less wheel hop, stiffer)
4. The Dual wet clutch transmission is an 8 speed. Which not only shifts MUCH faster that a human can shift, but as 2 more gears to keep it in it's power band
5. The DCT (Dual clutch transmission) cars come with the NGS (over boost) button, giving it 10 more wheel HP for 20 seconds.
There are more improvements, like better engine, intercooler and brake cooling.

@@juanticimofalse. 530whp CTR that puts the power down fine. Proper tire and suspension setup does wonders. No “functionality” lost whatsoever
@@StormFK8exactly idk where people are getting their info about type r not being about to passed 400whp reliably 😂
@juanticimo you just don't know how to drive if you can't handle 325 fwd whp car lol. It's not spinning every gear. Learn to manipulate the gas and buy yourself an auto instead.
Yeah that's a clear example of 300+ hp
