Hats off guys, this is fantastic. I thought I just didn't understand compression properly, as I never found the settings to do anything pleasant where I wanted them to. I can't wait to rediscover this, I'm sure I'll fall in love. Thanks team!
This explains why the plugin to me just always "sounded weird" but it was very early in my audio career so I was never able to explain why. Kinda crazy how my ears still picked up on it even if I didn't know the technicality behind it. Thank you for doing this, gonna throw the plugin back in my template
Genuinely thought I didn’t know how to use when I bought it when it came out , just downloaded the update and I’m blown away! Can’t wait to put on my drums from now on 🙏
I am very excited for this update. I have even more respect for Nolly and the GGD- Team when they acknowledge the mistanke and apologize instead of giving a bad explanation and wishing the ground would swallow them up. Way to go!
You know what, fairplay to Nolly to owning up the mistake within the first minute. You can really see he cares about the product he & the whole team put out and that he is genuinely disappointed by the obersight
ye it's been intressting... bought smash and grab and absolutly saw an improvement in my drum mixes but something felt of. after the update i heard the difference and it just clicked. what i heard was that the snare never got the round full sound i was looking for and was always sticking out in the mix. it's nearly perfect now! thank you and kudos for owning up to the mistake!
As a “preset” guy this really explains why I absolutely suck at producing. I always assumed the knob did “something” behind the scenes that was simply too subtle, too radical, for my ears to hear. I’d slap on the Waves API stuff mainly and then use this for more beef (seriously not knowing wtf I was doing). But no need to apologise imo - you’ve revolutionised drum sounds in the industry. This is a wake up call to actually learn what the gear I’m using does and not rely on presets!
Watched this video and it compelled me to buy it. Threw it on the modern and massive kit with help from your tutorial. Sounds amazing, appreciate the tutorials and the honesty!
I would have preferred GGD to release the update as a new plugin like neural DSP did with the X versions of their plugins. I have used smash and grab on too many projects to count so I'm not willing to update it and lose all my original drum sounds. It really sucks they aren't backwards compatible
@@GetGoodDrums Yes but you have effectively broken all old sessions that didn't commit compression plugins. It's not normal practice to have to commit compression plugins. Breaking old sessions = can't trust the plugins moving forward and won't use them anymore.
@@jeffdunne9602I think with how simple the plug-in is, it shouldn’t be more than a minor inconvenience to have to redial a couple knobs if an old session is important enough to be revisited for any reason.
I'm still confused, does changing the setting in normal mode not change the settings when I switch into pro mode? Like I'd assume if i pick snare or overheads, when i switch to the pro side, it would've carried over from what i selected in normal mode. I just downloaded the update last night but I'm not noticing a difference for me (I'm using Reaper btw).
just when someone commented about problems with S&G on a video about tuning based on attack vs release of your guitar playing on a composition, this video shows up. Methinks to make mistakes is human. p.s. my guess is that tom mics can capture too much of the stick attack which "grab mode" might not be suitable for them.
So when installing the new version, is the older version replaced with 'v2' in extant projects? Just making sure I have the updated version running properly without having to reapply instances of SnG 😀
Do you have the cymbal spot mics going through the "OH" mode along with the actual OHs? I think that's what I'm seeing in the mixer but just wanted to confirm.
I just bought Smash and Grab this morning and realised that it’s now on sale! Any chance of a refund so I can purchase the sale version? 😂 There’s also an issue when using the VST version on my M1 Mac where it sums everything that passes through it to mono. But when I use the AU version it works fine. Is there any fix for this at all? I prefer to use VST versions of plugins. Thanks!
This proves you don't use the plugin in your own productions... ugh Also... calling a FIX an UPDATE, when the only thing you've done is make the plugin work "right" years after it was released... come on!! I fell for the heavy marketing push back then and purchased it. Stopped using it shortly after. I don't feel like downloading the "update" and giving it another go... But that's just me. Too little, too late, IMHO. But It's good that you owned it, though...

Props to you guys for owning up to this. Nolly seems like a genuinely good and honest person. Gonna go back and give this a second chance.
Props for owning up Nolly and GGD. That was the right decision. Going to download the update now.

Last time I was this early, Nolly was still guesting on periphery songs.
New Elden Ring DLC anddd updated smash and grab ? An awesome Friday it is indeed!

Just clocked these are the drum stems for Good Tiger! Alex is a beast on this record!

Thanks Nolly and crew!!!! Excited to get back to using this badass unit
I completely forgot I have this. Great reminder and update to check it out again.

Nolly's Apology
Such heartfelt.
thank you so much for the update, plugin works super well now and im excited to use it more!
Sweet!! 🍭 I experienced some issues with S&G in one of my mixing templates in Logic Pro X, just recently. I‘m glad this is being fixed now!
I'm looking forward to diving into this in my DAW. Thanks Nolly for the demo!
Very cool of you to do this!
Those raw snare velocities though. Rudi is the man.
That API 2500 bus comp is the shit
So this is why I've only ever really liked this compressor on snare drum lol. Appreciate the honesty, looking forward to trying the update!
Happy to see this from you guys. Love every product i own from you guys and use them daily. Appreciate the accountability. 👍🏻
It’s something I wouldn’t have noticed unless someone told me about it, thank you for being transparent with your fans/customers Nolly!
Great job guys, and thank you for being open about it.

It’s all good, you r forgiven…this plugin freaking rocks!
Alex is a monster on the kit, love hearing him play
Respect for bringing this to light and owning up, added to the cart 🛒 🤙🏾
Love the honesty at the beginning. Happy to see it's been fixed - excited to start using it again.

Great video man, really needed the tutorial on SnG
Thank you Nolly :)
Still a great plug in before this guys! The default setting worked great for me on so many things.
Cant believe i released an ep with one default settings lol. Still sounded good which shows you how good this compressor is
Would be really cool if you did a similar compression plugin for orchestral instruments!? You’re welcome for the idea 👍
Good work fella
Maybe in the next update include a Drum Buss Mode😁?
finally!! Thanks!
For aaaall this time I thought I had hearing issues or just lack of experience with compressors and it turns out it was a bug :\
Apologies again! Hope you enjoy the update - we really think it's a step up!
Nolly for president
You should think about giving a new 14-day trial for those who didn't like the plugin before the update.
im scared to update it. Will it affect all my songs??

We understand your frustration, given how non-functional the previous version was we felt it made sense to overwrite it.
