An update in 2022 bricked my shield
A ha, here we have it, you promote fire devices so you can sell more of this bs
Fire devices are terrible, your promotion of them suggests your opinions aren't worth listening to.
Its 10x better than any other device. Flawless
@stephen: I think this is subjective. I myself prefer the AppleTV…..I sold my Nvidia shield.
I had a lot of streaming devices, I'll stick with Nvidia Shield.
@@macruz8503 Out of curiosity, why do you prefer Apple TV to Nvidia Shield? I'm undecided on which one to buy
@@giuliano71 hey there. Well for me I think the user interface is a lot cleaner and minimilastic. The phone integration is great….for example let’s say I watched a show last year. It will give me a new phone notification telling me there are new episodes/ season. Also I am able to walk mount the Apple TV which clears up space . It just works for me very easy to plug and play. Oh yeah also when I buy movies or tv shows it asked payment via the phone and Apple Pay is pretty secure instead of having the actual card on tue device.
@@RenatusChristoph Apple TV? Not for me! Maybe you had an older tv?
I bought the Shield Pro in 2021 and it's hands down the best streaming device I've ever owned.
How would you say you use it?
@@burberriesncream LOL. As a streaming device.
@@burberriesncreamAre you serious??
I use it for streaming games, movies etc, and it is indeed flawless. I researched my options the last 3 years, and I haven't found anything better than the shield pro. It's definitely worth it.
Do NOT buy Amazon Firetv or cube! What's the use of getting a cheaper device (which it is better) but Amazon disabled USB Debugging & are discontinuing 3rd party apps & moving towards an HORRIBLE locked down system like Apple. You're wasting your money but most people are dumb & will stick with Amazon. I dropped them like a hot potatoe & if more people do what I did you'll see Amazon hurt like DTV did. Also Amazon did not care that Wyze cameras no longer worked with Alexa & Wyze never gave any help. So I guess Wyze knew. Stick with an Android box. Now I get to view my cams again no thanks to Amazon.
Idk what you are talking about, I can install 3rd party apps fine on Fire TV 4k stick still. And the moonlight app functions the same as Shield, I can stream 4k games form my pc easily
When you say dumb.. you mean people who aren’t ‘geek dweebs’ right?
@@MylonasFilms No I mean they won't leave Amazon. They just put up with the bs. All Android box operate the same as firestick. It may have settings in a different place but everything is the same.
@@TheCleaner6969 You can still sideload the apks but its hidden and harder... sometimes if they decide to update the software, you are screwed and need to do it again (if you could in future).
@@samfkt I should of said future or people looking to get into streaming. I do understand you still can on current devices but Amazon is really pushing their Vega OS on new devices. I would just be careful not to invest in the whole Amazon brand/devices if you like your freedom.
Currently you can achieve more on the Shield than Fire due to Amazon Changes.
I'd buy a shield against Fire
Nothing comes close to the shield
They are not even comparable as the Fire can't do what the shield was designed for which is cloud gaming. Due to the OS the Fire can't even run Cloud gaming apps. If you only want to stream movies or music the Shield is a complete overkill and no one should pay 100+ bucks on it just to do that.
@@frutti_di_marius but AI upscaling, better controller.... hardware is better aka better boot times, easier to sideload apps.. All that favors the Shield
💯 the nVidia Shield is supercharged in comparison to other TV boxes, Fire sticks or cubes. It's actually hilarious that some people try to make comparisons.
@@Shon1582 Not close? For what? I rather have a new device like the Google TV streamer with updates for years to come.
Had my Shield since 2016, and it's never let me down. Had 5/6 firesticks fail me in that time so no brainer for me. Yes it's pricey but u have no restrictions and will save u money in the long run! For me it's always been the best and for me...still is! 👍
Had mine since 2018. Still works great.
Good that I bought it in 2015. Never failed, it just worked. No need to worry about getting new smart tv boxes because it still just simply works.
I have 3 Shield Pros and had 2 new Firecubes but sold them for $50 each because they can't sniff the Shield Pro.
No other devices do full atmos surround throughput. Only device that can be used with 4k rips with plex. And the only one i know of with gbs lan port. 100mbit is not enough for uncompressed uhd.
Question: does it have to be connected to internet to do the upscaling?
I am just worried that they turn such a beautiful device into a brick whennthey drop the support 😢
@@marjorieblack4888no as far as i know upscaling is done locally on hardware
@@marjorieblack4888 no
@@marjorieblack4888 it has to be connected to the interwebs to do anything, lol
This is f** True. Nothing can handle big local streaming file like the Shield with True 7.1 Audio, HDR, DolbyVision etc...
At least with Shield you don’t put up with the Amazon bullshit. Still the Gold Standard even if they aren’t likely to make a new box. Their focus is now AI
I couldn't agree more.
TOTALLY agree. Fire Stick/Cube was the only thing close to the Shield, but thats changed with the Fire Stick getting more and more locked down. FireStick is becoming AppleTV 2.0...especially once Amazon gets its own OS.
Bought shield tv pro in 2015, still going strong 😁 my only Android device in house.
You should have a Apple TV thingy 🤣😎
I bought a Shield Pro back in 2022 (the 2019 model) because it's still the only device that does full audio passthrough for Plex and other local streaming solutions that is reasonably priced and dependable. It also is good for running a Plex server, but for me, I just use it as a Plex client when I want to watch movies and TV I've put on Plex the same way I would when playing them from the disc. So for these functions, the newest hardware isn't required unless they start introducing new standards. With this said though, I've considered giving up Plex and simply going back to my physical media for quality better than streaming, just because things just work with physical media in terms of compatibility. Either way, The shield for me, has been a solid solution for local streaming content in formats most other devices don't fully support.
Dude wtf you talking about, nothing comes close to the Nvidia Shield..my one is still going since 2015...
Yeah, this guy is full of you know what.
In terms of what?
Did you watch the video? Or just read the title?
If you watched the video he’s saying Nvidia will release a new one soon so hold off and wait for the price drop or buy the new one
@@mitchbaker6300 false there is no information anywhere about an upcoming NVidia shield.
You have posted plenty of videos on here that have given me plenty of reasons not to get FireStick / Cube devices. The NVIDIA Shield Pro has performed flawlessly for me for a very long time. Why do they need to come out with a newer version or model? If it's not broke, then why fix it?
im not saying it isnt worth it. My biggest point is do not buy a new one as an upgraded model is probably coming
@@UpgradeGuyTech Understood. They did a good job at future proofing the NVIDIA Shield Pro.
Nope, Nvidia is making so much money on AI, they could care less about the Shield TV, latest hotfix was 10 months ago, it's safe to assume future development of the Shield TV is dead in the water, sadly @@UpgradeGuyTech
@@UpgradeGuyTechthat is not what your video says, you're literally advising fire devices over the shield, the very reason I found this video is because of how hacked iff with fire TV I am, and looking for something that will actually work and not crash and promote and Amazons crap content.
Your only criticisms are you THINK they might launch a new device (ironic that you promote Amazon who have released multiple fire devices, why doesn't that render the previous obsolete? And Amazon have a proven track record in needless fire devices upgrades to sell more devices, yet your promoting a company that is a worse offender for one of your main criticisms of the shield, utter hypocrisy.
Your second criticism is they haven't issued software updates for nearly 2years......have you considered that it doesn't need them, if it works well "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
What a pathetic criticism. lack of updates is a positive not a negative. The fact you think lack of updates is a good thing is concerning for what modern tech has done to people's perceptions. A good device should never need updates, it should work properly from day one, the more updates a device needs means the worse it was when released, continued updates indicate the company can't even correct what should have works at launch properly.
Youre meant to indicate sponsored content, and that's the only logical conclusion (without using ad hominems) for your "opinion" is that Amazon are paying you.
Anyway thanks to the comments on this video. I shall now go and purchase a shield and take great delight in smashing the heck out my fire TV device
Going to get the Nvidia Shield Pro 😊
No one has the level of performance hardware that the shield comes with. There is nothing that even comes close.
I have two Nvidia shields, ones from 2015 and one of the latest pros. The 2015 model still gets regular updates and is basically the same processor as the newer models. I’ve gone through three (yes THREE) cromecasts and a Roku in the same timeline on my secondary tv, yet my shield is still running strong!
Streaming my PC in 4k and upscale to 4k is basically the only reason why I ordered the shield TV pro. Got it for 165, down from 220. Let's hope it's good once it arrives ^^
Been running a steam-link setup for like 9 years now and the 1080p limit and lack of HDR is what pushed me towards the shield.
The value in the shield is the ability to go 3rd party apps, the Firestick is about to change their operating system that will prevent you from downloading what you want on it. I'm keeping my shield till it no longer works.
Me too.
I currently have the latest fire cube and I’ve been considering getting a Nvidia Shield for a while now. I know that the fire stick third party apps feature may come to an end one day. And I want to be ready for that day. So getting one is definitely an option for me. I just have been hesitant because I don’t wanna buy one and as soon as I do. Boom, here comes the next version. I’d be pissed ‼️😂
With Amazon moving away from the Android OS, I’m looking for a new device that I can backload, was looking at the Shield but have the same age concerns. Recently picked up a Cube and regretting it since I heard the OS change is coming
NVidia shield is the most up to date streaming device out there, which has been primed and ready for Google TV a while back already, which is android based anyway so no concerns there. There is no comparison at the moment when it comes to the nVidia Shield, the Amazon products like the fire stick, cube, etc are all just cheap knockoffs IMO, and Apple TV boxes just suck @$$ 🤣
The only promising thing to replace the shield is the new Buzzbox Powerstation 6 it looks like it uses the Nvidia chip. Not enough data on it yet. Any comments ?
No uses Chinese CPU RK3588 ...Chinese junk overpriced
I am still using the 2015 version and I can honestly say this is by far the best $189 purchase I have ever made. I was waiting to see if shield is going to come out with a new version but I am going to go ahead and buy the 2019 version. I am thinking Nvidia will not release a new version because there are tons of cheaper streaming devices that get the job done for most people's needs, which is simple streaming. The Shield enthusiasts may not be in a big enough number for Nvidia to generate any profit from releasing a new device. So I am going to get the 2019 version before it disappears.
Is the shield decent for GeForce now?
Nvidia shield is never outdated it is built for the future for any year.
i'm still rocking a 2017 shield and it's pretty quick and flawless
It is important to realize the advantage and appeal of the Nvidia Shield has over the others. Its the integrated GPU, which is not only regulated to games. The GPU handles Encoding/Decoding of video much more efficiently than other so called streaming devices. In fact the Nvidia Shield can act as a PLEX server all on its own, it is that powerful. It has its own Plex server app in the app store. No other device on your list of "competitors" has this ability. This is the secret sauce if you will of the Nvidia Shield that has given it the ability to keep on going. I'm sure a refresh is immanent to the line, and it will be worthy of Nvidia's manufacturing magic.
I'm still using a 2017 model and it has been so damn reliable and consistent that I have really no reason to even consider changing it (and it's not even the latest model). Excellent support, planty of power, damn good retro console. never a problem with pads, keyboards, headphones...
But I'd really like for Nvidia to release a 2024 model, because mine still runs good (with come thermo paste change along the way), but nothing is eternal sadly.
😅
It's still 100% better than any firestick crap, even without updates.
Says a lot more about tv manufacturers that a nearly half a decade old streaming device is beating their native smart tv OS on even flagship $5K+ tvs. Nvidia can see usage and sales stats...there is a reason they haven't bothered releasing an upgrade.
The first version of Nvidia shield tv is way better than any other device out there, and its not even close. The pro version destroys everything end of convo!!
You didn't talk about home theater usage for streaming audio. Dolby atmos, DTS X, etc...
It's still the best even at full price. Why change what's almost perfect? If they would eliminate the Netflix button on the remote, it would be a perfect system.
Personally I would like to see Nvidia Shield collaborate with Atari. Atari VCS’s PC mode is very underrated. Atari VCS is a very cool product that lacked the power of Nvidia. And I would like to see both companies work together. Just my opinion as an owner of both.
Bought Nvidia shield in 2016 still going strong.
Today I bought Shield pro at a promotional price for $230 and after what I saw, no equipment is equal to it. It is fast, efficient, does not jam, and the image also looks beautiful. I switched from Amazon
Nothing comes close to a NVS, even thou it came out in 2019 , just don't do it guys , if you can get it cheap enough or on sale buy it, & don't look back
Paused at 3.25 to say that there probably is a new Shield coming but they won't announce it until after Nintendo announce the next Switch, Nvidia would be silly not to as the Shield does have a huge fanbase
I use Google Chromecast with Google TV for the past 3 years at a fraction of the Nvidia Shield price and works perfectly for what I use it. I would never spend over $250 dollars. If they sell it for $50 I will try it lol.
I have a google Chromecast with Google TV in the living room and bedroom, so easy to use, maintain and never any problems.
Where do you live? The Shield Pro is $199, not over $250.
What about all the supported audio outputs, trueHD, DTS, etc?
Benchmarks only mean something when it translates to real-time performance difference.
I have two Nvidia Shields the 2017 & 2019 TV Pro models got no complaints and I I've had the Firesticks and FireCubes.
Me 2
@@NebRadojkovic Me 3. Shield is stilll King.
My Nvidia shield has been having a lot of bugs lately and freezes a lot
Mine is almost unusable.
I'm an existing owner of the Shield Pro and have been as impressed with it as much as I was when I got myself a Popcorn Hour A-100 back in the day. I'm in the market for a second streaming device and actually had similar thoughts about the current generation's lifespan as are expressed in this video. I can wait a while (and probably will), but if I was pressed into a purcahse today I think I'd still buy the Shield over the other offerings in the market, crazy as that might sound but even the latest Fire TV Cube doesn't look that compelling in comparison 🤷♂
I still use my Nvidia Shield 4K 2019, and it kicks the other competitors into the ground, with no problem whatsoever. The Nvidia Shield is Flawless... So yes it's definitely worth buying in 2024
Can you play Roblox or genshin impact on it? (Tryna save on a games console by getting this..)
I have fire sticks, android tvs and the Nvidia shield... I use the Nvidia shield the most... Total misinformation
Still using my 2015 shield ( got from gamestop for $150 at the time ). Great purchase. Still going strong. I also got a $20 walmart onn 4tv last month, that i also like. Honestly if you just want to watch videos and stream , i think the onn tv is a great buy. But if you are into gaming , casual or even high end steam games shield is amazing. Plus its geforce now service is like none other.
I seriously wonder if amazon paid you to advertise firetv. Firetv is not even a competition to shield. Shield is at a different level. you start advertising shield by comparing cpu benchmarks. Even a non tech user would know a tv box is supposed to play videos and depends almost 100% on its graphics processing power. The nvidia tegra processor on my 2015 shield is still more powerful than any firetv in 2024. Nvidia is the envy of every company for a reason.
As far your cry about shield releasing android late , its similar to apple releasing features way after android does. A newest / flasiest android is not what anyone using android tv box needs. They need a stable experience. Yes the recent release of shield was a disaster , but they promptly fixed it with another release 15 days later - something you forgot to mention. I think your entire video was about promoting firetv sales - and had nothing to do with shield.
And if "value-for-money" is someones concern - They wouldn't get a shield. There are plenty of cheap tv sticks/boxes. I got the onn tv box for another room which I love.
I think Shield worth buying only because it allows HDD USB connectivity unlike Amazon fire cube or stick.
probably could be a new shield in 2025, the newest tegra chip will be available to the switch 2, they could divide the production if nvidia want.
Isnt it the best for playing pc games remotely?
Some people would say that, It is becoming outdated but still great for Emulation
Just saw this review.....just had to write that really NO argument given by this dude is a reason not to buy this device!!!
Ive had mine for 8yrs now....still use it every day. What real NEW TECHNOLOGY is there? 🤷♂️ We are still on the same ol 4K as before
I can't add storage to the Firestick 4k versions no matter how many videos I watch so I can't load all the apps I want without getting a no space message, but i have added all the storage I need to the Shield. No one seems to mention that at all. Really considering a 2nd Shield!!
I still have the 2015 model running my plex server with minimal problems. Usually the problems arise with other devices not having the codecs necessary to run the files. There is hardly anything that plays files with TrueHD lossless atmos codec and DTSX.
I got the original pro in 2015 500gb storage plus memory card slot and it still runs flawless, games old and new also handles streaming really good, as a founders member it only cost £5 something a month too for gaming and nivida have always updated its product too so no issues their so when has it ever been an outdated device? Never !!! Some people have issues with the newer boxes but iv had none its ran everyday for streaming movies and tv shows, as the kids use it also i have emulators running smoth as fuck so we play the old school games alot too mega drive, super nintendo, gameboy, nds, game gear, its purely well and simply the best device known to man 9 years and still running 🤷🏻♂️ the only things iv upgraded on mine was the remote, and the controller !!!!
There is no other box wich streams DTSX, atmos lossless. Shield is still the best in home cinemas.
I have both the 2017 Shield TV and the Fire TV Cube 3rd gen. Overall, the Shield TV is still superior, but it's time for Nvidia to release a new one. Due to the Android updates, it definitely has lost performance. When it comes to just using streaming apps right now for me, the Fire TV Cube is better. However, for pro users, I don't recommend the Fire TV Cube, especially since it doesn't have USB 3.0, only 2.0. Everyone knows there's really no streaming device today that comes close to the capabilities of the Shield TV. With that being said, that doesn't mean we don't need a new Shield TV. We need one with updated hardware as it's the same hardware from almost a decade ago.
Your logic needs to be tested here. When did you last see a Bugatti On sale? When you have the best putting it on sale is just not good business logic. In essence the day something better comes out than the shield you might see it on sale but until the new tech still plays catchup there is no reason. Also speculating around revision updates. Have you considered that there isn't a update because there isn't a need for one? The same reason why the Nuke silos in US still run on XT machines. With your logic then the US military is outdated. If it isn't broken ... dont fix it. The Shield still rains supreme over ALL other devices even if its 5 years old
I have 5 Nvidia Shields for every TV I have, my son has it as well and both of us for a very long time. I still have one from 2015, never had any problems with any of those. Using for streaming only and I will never buy any Amazon devices because of the restrictions. NEVER!!!!!! I did buy new ONN box for $50.00 and it works great, using it right now. I used to pay $150.00 a month for useless cable TV so what is the problem to spend $1000.00 for 5 NVidias? That's less than 4 month of cable TV and I am done.
How does this compare between this one and the superbox s6 max? And can this get ppv events for free*?
I have a 2017 shield and it's still going strong but they should be releasing updates and no one is making any new videos on sideloadiing 3rd party apps like they did in the early years ,its hardly mentioned anymore, like it's a thing of past
As the shield pro is on sale now at £150 lol .
If you buy the Amazon cube 3 it’ll be swapped over to a locked down system .
For same price lol
You can also easily roll back any software updates on shield or simply turn it off .
The problem is the firestick is weak I've had 5 fail in 2 years,
& firestick is restricted
Yep, and absolutely no fail on my old nvidia shield 2015.
I dont regret my 2019 Shield purchase but most of the cool kids moved to the Apple TV for streaming and the REALLY cool kids seem to be going back to physical media. Yep, ye olde DVD. Movies and series being dropped from streaming services plus more ads has driven some back to the silver disc. DVD 'rot' and CD bronzing dont deter these folk, but for the purpose of this vid I wont be ditching my shield anytime soon.
Soooo I just bought a 3rd Shield. I dont really need it, because it would go on a seldom used TV. Im wondering if I should return it.
Its a must have as a Plex client. Cpu power isnt everything, codec support makes a huge difference for video playback..
What is the alternative to it?
A NUC PC (tiny full OS PC )
or an old laptop giving it a second life (cheaper solution)
The shield itself is great. What ruins it is android updates. The updates kill performance and useability. It is still one of the few devices that run androidtv, not googletv. Just for streaming I say no, walmarts onn box is better for the money. But I use my shield for emulation. It runs everything for NES to Switch like a champ. But so does my Samsung Phone.
It can be that they will either launch newer hardware or software and also I am sure for many people there are should be that find the Shield to be worth buying.
So what's the best streaming device? I'm interested in running Kodi on it, but I'm not up on current devices. :(
Shield, hands down. And you can still sideload 3d party apps. I have a 2018 model. Works great. I also have a 2021 4K Firestick, very good, but not as fast or smooth or have the storage memory as the Shield.
nVidia Shield Pro without a doubt! Even the old nVidia Shield 2017 model is untouched and will serve you very well. nVidia Shield (either one) will not disappoint, other boxes leave you feeling cheated. nVidia Shield's are not cheap, but you do actually get what you're paying for, and they're a beast.
Nvidia Shield rules, period, end of discussion. I have the TV and the Pro and they are virtually flawless with their operation. When a hiccup occurs once every blue moon just reboot it and issue resolved. Before I purchased my first Shield I previously was using the Fire Cube 1st and 2nd Gen and both were a dumpster fire with their endless myriad of problems and the 1st Gen lasted eleven months and the 2nd thirteen. I cannot think of any possible upgrade that could make Shield any better than it is. Shield still spanks every other current streaming device soundly and its not even a contest. The only other device that can come close is the Apple TV and even it was soundly drubbed by the Pro. No doubt the Nvidia Shield streamers are expensive, but they are worth every penny of your hard earned cash.
Only thin close to the Shield is the latest App TV, and it would win IF and only IF Apple actually sorted out Bitstream Audio. PCM is all good and well, but with such a mixture of content there Audio delay often needs a slight adjustment espeically when going from Full Atmos to DTS 5.1. They really need to just add it
* Note * This is from the POV of a Plex user
I just bought one. I have been on the fence for so long. Only going to use it to steam Plex. My smart TV doesn't have the horsies to play Plex content from it's native app. I'm a truck driver always on the road. I depend on streaming Plex. I was thinking about sending the shield back and just using my Intel i9 PC to play movies it performs well. But I really want a streaming app experience with a real remote control not a keyboard and mouse. I made the keyboard and mouse a nicer experience with the unified remote app but that's beside the point. I'm about to open the box up just to check it out. I bet a new one comes out and the price will drop just like your saying. Going to have to find a way around avi formats. More than 10% of my library is avi that's the main issue I'm having with this thing. I hear all the raving comments about it. I know there's workarounds and you can convert the files. That's unrealistic for me. But, I know me. I got to play with something new I know I'm going to like it. I do feel like I waisted my money. Only because a new one might be right around the corner who knows. I'm going to come back to this comment an edited after I experience the shield for the first time.
I bet they will soon. They are too popular not too
Why Nvidia should do anything? Why they should lower the price? They supposed to increase the price because after 5 years nobody made anything better! I'm going to purchase one before it disappears from market!
@upgradeguytech --- How does it compare to the Tanggula X5 Pro?
The short and simple answer is that the Tanggula X5 Pro cannot compare to the nVidia Shield Pro, because it is a piece of junk, absolute trash and a total waste of money. First off, it's fugly, it does not support the Android TV OS, it's not a Google verified streaming device, so you can't have a Legit Netflix (or other verified by Google apps) installed. The hardware inside the cheap Chinese 3D print printed case is substandard and way too overpriced. In short it's cr@p 👎🏻😄
I have the 2015 shield tv 16gb and it's still works great. I cleaned the fan for the first time last month. Does anyone have the 2015 model and the 2019 model? Is it worth upgrading to the 2019 model? I know they might come out with a 2024 model?? But I haven't heard any leaks to that point. Nvidia might not come out with a new one.
main critique:
It's old and expensive.
But it's still better than everything else...
Also FOMO-ing into "they might release something new".
Does it do what you want it to do better than other devices? If you want to stream from your nvidia gpu to living room tv, then this is still a great buy.
I'm pretty sure Amazon are sponsoring them, his only criticisms are a new one might come out (like Amazon do every 5minutes with fire devices)
And these not been updates for a while, which basically i dictates it works well so doesn't need updates, surely updates are just an inication a product didn't initially work properly.
I'm off to buy a shield now
I have a Shield..had a Firetv before.. The Shield is by far the better Android device on the market.
If there is going to be a new Sheila, then people should hold off, otherwise you can’t beat it.
Can't wait for the new Sheila
Is something really becoming obsolete if it’s still the best device on the market? I don’t think so
Just bought mine at £160, seems a brilliant device so far. Wish there were more apps available
Have two of them for the most of 4 years, been hanging on for the next models. Have replaced remotes from time to time, when the wife pours sticky drinks over the buttons. Back when Hi-Fi was the thing, I sunk a lot of money into that with incremental upgrades. Learned some from that, unless it is a significant upgrade, or a complete redo, don't spend the money.
I just bought it and love it. I cant stand firesticks with all preinstalled apps tgat suck. I use iptv and don't need all the ads and crap. Picture quality is so much better u must admit with shield. I wasn't fond of price. I use android boxes all the time which are cheaper but they do not update at all. I'm not a gamer besides baseball but it's cool that I have an option to play a ton of free games if I'm bored. Anyways love ur content. Just my 2 cents.
I had my nvidia shield for 5 years now and never had issue and I feel it can anything other boxes can do
Do you think for the future of the nvidia shield tv devices that they should get the Google TV OS update, because many of the portable devices and TVs already are preinstalled with the OS and we do see it is less to see a device still shipped with the older Android TV OS.
What’s better than a shield ?
I have a Shield and love it. I think at some point NVidia will come out with a new device. The truth is, if you are not concerned with streaming Netflix in 4K or Live streaming via TH-cam TV, there are several devices that crush the shield. Oogos has so much more capacity. If you are clever enough, you can build your own device for under $80 that destroys the Shield.
What is Oogos? Never heard of it before. Can't find it online on any comprehensive search.
How do you deal with the buffering issues with an IPTV on Nvidia Shield? I have strong WiFi and it only buffers on IPTV channels ? Please advise.
It’s probably the iptv sub
Yep. A huge percentage of the time, buffering with IPTV is a provider issue, not a client issue.
i got the shield pro a couple of weeks ago and it is hands down AWESOME! it replaced my android box from my tv provider etc. it's fast and responsive and offers hell of a lot more than the others.. apple tv? no THANK YOU, not even if you paid me! if nvidia ever releases a new shield i will buy it as well!
Smart commercial : u dont say "buy a fire cube" but "dont buy a Shield" wich is the best android box....
If it wasnt a commercial, u would compare many devices, not only the amazon one :D
Just picked a Nividia shield Pro for £75 , can't complain at that price , yes second hand but hardly been used .
In the UK they still sell new for around £189 , I was never going to pay that for it , had a multitude of android devices over the years including Minix and the Sheid pro has the best picture quality hands down.
I sold my shield 2 years ago and I'm looking to buy it back as the ccwgtv isn't cutting it. Where did you get it for 75? EBay cex?
@@cabbagehead8815 Facebook selling pages , just got lucky, same time I sold my Minix u22x-j that I'd had for about 4 years for £40 , so really the Shield only cost £35, if you keep your eye out on there you can find the odd bargain 👍
in five years, you'll be saying that this was the best 75 pound purchase you've ever made. I am still using the 2015 Shield TV as my main entertainment system and I am amazed how well it's still running!
It disappoints me to say that I am returning the Nvidia Shield TV Pro which I just purchased. I really wanted to like this over and above my Roku 4K stick but that is sadly just not the case for me. I will state for the record that I am not a gamer so none of those features weigh in as a factor for me. I also most certainly am not trying to demean the Nvidia enthusiasts but just offering my honest opinion.
First the Pros:
1) I primarily purchased because I wanted the stability and speed of the 1Gb ethernet port which I will say works very well overall and the speed difference is certainly very noticeable.
2) User interface is very intuitive and smooth
Cons:
1) I have to agree with this review. I see very little difference with the AI Upscaling vs not using it.
2) The audio quality of the Nvidia is significantly subpar vs that of the Roku 4K stick.
3) Randomly I would not be able to access some apps. I had to uninstall and reinstall a few apps several times in order for them to open.
Like I said....I tried it and I really wanted to like and keep it......I just cannot justify doing so at the $200 price tag. I know many people feel the Roku devices have a stale look and interface but you know what they do have to offer? They simply perform as expected. IF/When the next gen Roku Ultra comes with a 1Gb ethernet port I will be all over that one.
I appreciate hearing the honest recap. I don't see a lot of people in the comments here comparing to 2022 Apple TV 4K, and I'm trying to compare the two. I currently use Roku Ultra and it's totally fine for most things but having ads really turns me off, and it doesn't give you a lot of options or control or feedback over audio/visual status to diagnose what's available vs. what your devices are requesting/displaying. Also a few random crashes and quirks that may be unique to my unit or setup.
@@clavicus It isn't just you. My Roku streaming stick also has random crashes forcing me to disconnect and reconnect. I think I am going to give the Apple TV 4K a try as well and see how that one performs. One thing I will say is that Apple support is generally very responsive so hopefully they can guide me through any setup hiccups. Good Luck to you.
@@joeg.5669 just got my Apple TV 4k (3rd gen with Ethernet version) used for $100 from local Facebook marketplace. I have to say it’s exactly what I wanted. Extremely responsive, great small remote, some Apple integrations I didn’t realize, that I think will be handy. I like that the apps seem to keep their “state” unlike my Roku Ultra that seems to clear apps back to square one if you want to switch between them. looks like it’s a keeper. I may buy another for the living room. I can see how the Shield would be preferable for a tinkerer type of person though. I think I may be getting older and narrowing the scope of things I want to spend time customizing. That said, i spent a couple hours tinkering with every setting I could find. The menus are pretty sensible.
@@joeg.5669 I’m put off the Apple TV because you can’t sideload apps and there are very few apps for IPTV on the Apple App Store
I had one back in 2017 and wasnt a fan of it alot of apps were buggy barely work on it and some apps were having Restrictions access to usb memory so made using emulators or games impossible
Just got one yesterday
The Navy Exchange removed all of them from the shelves which is nuts because they have always had it so, I think it may be a canceled unit.
But since most things are run from the cloud why worry at all about it getting expired outdated?. If the things are mostly done by the cloud. Vs physical hardware like ps5 xbox
I rlly hope a new shield will be made when yhe new switch releases! Fingers crossed!!! I love the shield with the wake up function for my plex server and power saving
In my opinion the price is prohibit . Was lanched years ago and the price is still the same . If it have a drop in price maybe i buy .
Apple TV+ 4K sets very high standards. No commercials and important video adjustments to get the best out of your system.
There is one fact that has not been mentioned at all. Try to get trueHD sound out of one of the other devices. Even my new Apple tv is not capable of that.
I love the upscaling. It's definitely the best still.
I want devices that are friendly for streaming videos/videofiles from my Computer. this means i need to toss out my Roku, got a video covering side loading recommended devices?
If someone thinks that cpu performance is so much important, why not just apple TV? A15 is insane in TV Box area. However,CPU performence has overpowered since shield TV. The functions of TV Box are most important.
