My Grandfather passed away last year and I found out he left his ‘15 Lariat 5.0 to me. From what I can recollect of our conversations; and the research I’ve done, this is the unicorn of F-150s. I know he was proud of it and I will for sure take care of this thing. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Hope yours runs forever!
I just purchased a 2017 5.0 with the 6 speed this morning! Super clean truck with 70,000 miles on her for $28,000! After seeing this video and a few others that are saying the same thing you’re saying it makes me very happy about my purchase. Thank you!
They say the 2017 was the best year of the decade. 5.0 with the 6 speed is bullet proof. Change oil every 4K miles trans pan drop ever 50k. Do that and you can pass it down forever
I’d be interested in what your thoughts are after a year or so of ownership. I’ve just put down a shipping fee on a 2015 F-150 XL 5.0L V8,4x4, and 8ft bed with 72,500mi. For the life of me, I could not find that combo of features/attributes with a single 2017 model. I’m Hoping that’s a sign of the known reliability of the 2015-2017 years. The market was absolutely flooded with 2018 & 2019 year 5.0 models to put it in perspective.
UPS driver here in sweet home Alabama. Loved listening to this video! I recently sold my 2013 3.5 Ecoboost ( which was cursed with issues) ….and just purchased a 2015 Lariat 5.0/ 6 speed . I absolutely love this truck!!!! Well designed truck , out of all the years makes anf models …. 2015 -2017 Ford V8’s had the best reviews on Ford forums. And honestly that’s all I want in a truck is dependability. Ty for your video and commentary.
Having your insight and inside baseball information on these things are golden. I don't know if it deserves the same trust, but take my '15 F250 XL. 6.2L 4x4. 8' bed extended cab with 195k mi. White with vinyl floor. I absolutely love that thing! It works it's di** into the dirt, pulls anything I hook up to w/o effort...I do 3,000mi oil changes on the engine, 30k on the diffs and xfer case. The point is that there's a feeling a guy gets when you work your ass off, struggle, work harder...and you get that truck that you know is the best. Like your '15 5.0 150. It's a feeling that is tough to beat. You deserve that thing, man!! You work your ass off for your family, you push out amazing content on the TH-cams, and you provide an invaluable service to the public. You've got a great rig there!!
Hard agree. My 17' F150 has been incredibly reliable. Bought used at 70k miles and have 150k on it now and had only had to do regular maintenance on it. Best thing I've done for it though was run 87 with a cold air intake and performance tune....that Coyote engine loves power and makes the truck feel like a bit of a sleeper unsuspected by other vehicles at the traffic lights. I may or may not have embarrassed a few other "modded" trucks haha. Anyways, great video!
I really appreciate your personal and professional take on the F150, this can really help someone in the future, after 36 years I still have my 77 F150 4x4 short bed with factory AC, roll up windows, just a very simple design, yes it doesn’t have all the refinements of today’s trucks but I love it just the same, thanks Rich 👍😁
Love your down to earth and to the point content! Please keep your channel going... Just flew to MN with my son and drove my new to me 50k mile 2017 F150 SC 4X4 5.0 1 owner, dealer serviced truck back to CT. I've been searching for the perfect '15 to '17 truck for literally 1.5 years and finally found a diamond in the rough. I found this video a couple weeks ago and have to say it's like you read my mind... each and every reason you give is what drove me to this truck, along with a couple you noted that I wasn't aware of... (blend actuator improvements and coolant pumps on newer models) No one can argue with this logic. Thank You!
I have a 2014, F 150XLT four by four, and, love it. Yes that truck has the "Coyote" and the six speed automatic. I get decent mileage, and, have had no transmission problems, and, none of the other things you mentioned. I do not mind the steel body, and, I live in north east Minnesota where we use a lot of salt on our roads. I just use good maintainence, and, keep it washed and waxed. I take it to a carwash in winter and take care to clean the frame, ect. It is now 9 years old, and, no signs of rust anywhere. I have had Fords, Toyotas, and, Silveradoes, and, this is my favorite truck, and, I am 74 years old.
I love Fords, Love V8s too. My Grandfather was a Ford Dealer tech turned CAT technician. He was a total ford guy from his 34 ford to the f250 he had when he passed. The brand totally speaks to me. I have spent the most money on my Fords and Love them most.
Finally, someone who agrees with me on the whole V6 turbski vs V8 Coyote argument (and 6 speed vs 10 speed)!! I had a 2000 F150 that I drove for 20 years (224,000+ miles.) In 2020 I bought a 2017 XLT w/ Coyote that only had 8,054 miles on it that an older man owned and only sold it because he could no longer drive. It still had that new car smell and I couldn't pass it up. I had been looking for a new truck, but didn't want to give up that V8 sound. My mechanic and I talked about V6 vs V8 and his opinion was that even though the V6 turbo had more torque and pulling power, all that strain would in the long run put a lot more stress on the motor than on the naturally aspirated V8. Made sense to me so I stuck with the Coyote and am glad I did. There's just something about a Ford truck that will keep me buying them until I can't drive anymore. Love your YT channel!! Please keep 'em coming.
I have a 15 XLT w/ V6 twin turbo. Has had plenty of power and not had any issues at 160k miles. I will say i do love the Coyote however and want that in my next truck!
I have a 2015 F150 XLT with the V6 Twin Turbo. No engine issues at 160K Miles with routine oil changes. Only thing i have replaced was the start/stop oil pump on the transmission. Has been a pretty solid truck as well. Would however like my next one to be a 5.0
I own a 2015 F150 lariat 4x4 with the Coyote. Love the truck. Great blend of comfort and capability. 42k miles and clicking right along👍 Huge selling points for me were the reliability of the 5.0, 6 speed trans, aluminum body (great in the Midwest) and equipment of the 2015+ trucks. Great commentary!
I have been a V8 F150 guy for quite some time now but when I was looking for my first pickup truck, I was initially looking for the 5.0 V8 but settled for the 3.7 V6 naturally aspirated motor with 98,920 miles and it now has 107,300 miles (owned it for almost a year so far) and so far so good, no major problems. I didn’t need a V8 and of course a naturally aspirated V6 leaves a bit to be desired, I’m happy I didn’t go Ecoboost and the V8 would’ve left me with more maintenance factors (great engine but more moving parts) especially since I don’t always tow or haul, only occasionally. Overall, both the 3.7 V6 and 5.0 V8 have got to be the best naturally aspirated motors ford ever had.
I bought my 2017 5.0 with the same frame of mind. It had 10 miles on it when I bought it. The dealership really tried to talk me out of it and wanted me to buy the 2nd gen ecoboost. They assured me all the ecoboost problems of the past were gone and I would regret buying the coyote. I don't regret buying it now. Not one issue in almost 6 years of ownership. No plastic oil pans!
I was a V8 guy forever, then when I bought my truck in December of ‘19, I decided to try the 3.5 eco boost. Gotta say, after 55,000 miles and using it on a pipeline right of way every day, I like the V6 a lot. Transmission is super clunky, but I’ve had an overall good experience with the truck. I like the grill design better than the 15 to 17 version. Not a fan of what I call the “ garage door grill “. But that’s just me, everyone has different taste. Mine fits the bill for me, yours does what you need it to do, all good. By the way, saw a late 80’s or early 90’s super cab 4x4 at a local parts store the other day that looked 100% original, man that thing was sweet. Have a good weekend.
Another great video, very good point by point explanation of why you chose the engine, and model year pick up that you now enjoy so much. I as a huge fan of yours am very happy for you and your points that you did point out to us were very well spelled out . This is your truck bought with your hard earned money 💰 . Enjoy it . Wishing you and your family a great and happy weekend 😊 bodymanbob from Alabama
When I bought my 18 eco 10speed it was stupid clunky for 2.5 weeks. Once it learned my driving habits it became the smoothest shifting vehicle I’ve ridden in. I’ve done the math. Yes, the v6 ecoboost will likely require a timing job between 100-150,000k. But by that mileage you will have saved more in gasoline alone over the v8, the saving nearly pay for two timing jobs. Not to mention having more power, and less strain/weight on every other moving part of the truck. Suspension, bushings, brakes, tires, you name it.
@@Sp3rmWizrd , mine has almost 80,000 on it now, just took it in for service after working on a pipeline in Ohio for the past 3 1/2 months. Tailgate handle broke, easy fix, passenger front seatbelt clicker not working, easy fix, video screen for navigation and radio would just turn black about every 3rd or 4th time I started the truck, APIM module behind the radio had to be replaced which would cost about 1300 bucks if your vehicle is out of warranty, Battery was bad causing auto start/stop to act up, OEM battery is about 225 bucks. The biggest issue I had was it was shifting hard between 4th and 5th gear. They ended up having to rebuild my transmission at just under 80,000 miles! I tow a side by side for work and occasionally a bass boat, so I’m not over working it by any means. The service manager at the dealership told me they’ve rebuilt 9 of the 10 speed transmissions in the last 2 months alone. Took mine to a transmission shop while I was in Ohio and had the fluid changed, filter and flush, to the tune of 450 bucks, looks like it was wasted money. Dealer still has it because they are waiting on special “ one time use “ bolts to put the transmission back together. I’ve been driving a brand new ‘23 XLT around for about 3 weeks as a loaner. Guess it could be worse? 😂
I absolutely love my 16 Ford F-150 5.0 Platinum. I have 80,000 on it now with 35’s. My dream truck. The transmission seems solid from what I can tell from videos. The same with the motor. It doesn’t appear to eat oil like the newer 5.0s. The only thing I’ve had replaced is the water pump that gave out on the highway at 65,000. I also like that I have a lot of the luxury features but not near as extreme as the newer models (shifter still connected to the transmission for example and less microchips for electronics) The oil is changed every 6 months as it’s not my daily anymore. Tows the 26ft boat or the jetski flawlessly. If you can find one this year you will not be disappointed with the 5.0
Been real fortunate with my 2014 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost and no issues. Doing regular maintenance. Got a Sentra last year as the daily driver I can keep the miles off the truck as it is going to hit 80K miles. Only issue with the truck I've had was a rear driver side door connection had come loose causing the vehicle to think the door was always open.
I have been wanting to upgrade from my 96 F150. It had the 5.0. It was a great truck but it was time to upgrade. I listen to your reviews, as well as a couple others on You Tube. I picked up a 2016 F150 crew cab 4 x 4 with the 5.0. Clean truck with only 116,000 kms (72,000 miles). I have the same thought on the motor size in the truck. Comfy ride. Powerful. Pulls nice. I get 26 miles per gallon (Imperial) at 60 miles per hour. Can't wait to try out the 4 wheel drive in the winter up here in Canada. Thanks for your honest opinion.
Ford Boss...You missed my exit at Roselle. This is great!...Just bought a 2017 Lariat in December at a dealer in Elk Grove Village, same powertrain< LOADED My first truck! 60k miles...out the door 35k Man I LOVE this vehicle....I checked them all out not a car guy but I know the engine and powertrain can do almost anything and are TRIED AND TRUE!!! Great video, thanks for your thoughts and I'll wave to you on the westbound I90... lol!
I've had 3 F-150s ... 1990, 1999, and my current 2017. All three were/ are 5.0 engines. It now has 95K miles and I've only had two issues: doors freezing in hard winter morning (a recall that was solved) and trans shudder recently that is temporarily fixed with FIXX. I will probably have to have trans work soon. Still, I love my 2017 XLT.
Only flaws I've come across with my '15 5.0 S-Crew is the water pump failed (120k+ miles), the quick disconnect upper radiator hose O-ring / Y-pipe leak, and the sliding back glass lost it's bond and fell into the cab (reattached myself with black RTV silicone and 3M Super Strength Molding tape). Those are the only issues after all of these years and miles. Definitely a good buy.
Hey good morning Rich,, hey thanks for the ride and the great story.. it really was a great decision for you to wait and get what you wanted.. that is a very nice truck and you made it much better,, Try to have your self a great job Rich..
Thanks for sharing this is great information. I am looking at the 2017 v8 Coyote model. I keep hearing the following common issues. Has anyone else experienced these issues with the 2015-2017 with the 5.0 engine? Transmission issues Brake failures Door mechanical issues Valve cover leaks Oil pan leaks Rear main seal leaks
I had a small oil pan gasket leak, could smell it on a rainy day and I had to have my brake master cylinder replace as it was taking too much pedal to get the same results. 2017 with 120K. Purchased new from dealer.
I've definitely experienced the brake failures/door issues. The door issues turned out fine because Ford fixed it even out of warranty and extended the warranty on the doors/tailgate for another 10 years.
There's a place in history for the Ford F150 with the 300 inline 6. The whole truck was bulletproof. Now I haul a big trailer. 43' long, 17,000 empty so a half ton is useless to me. So far the 7.3 is turning out to be very good. Nothing rots out here in Vegas to that doesn't matter.
My dad has a 92’ with a 4.9 and just hit 411,000 miles. Original engine. Rebuilt tranny and 100k (it was a work truck prior to us owning it). Just tune ups and routine maintenance.
Exactly the truck I am looking for. Was never a Ford fan, but looking at the rusted body of my old GMC, I think aluminum is the way to go. 5.0 coyote seems to be a very good motor in the pre oil burning years (15-17) and 6 gears is enough for me.
I have a 2016 F150 but with the v6 flex fuel….bought it new and 8 years later with 75,000 miles it’s the truck of my lifetime. I’ll never part with it… owned only 6 trucks in my 50 years of driving this is the best; love it.
I have a 05 f150 Lariat supercrew w/5.4 has 366,000mi just needs the cam phasers and timing chain rebuilt. Was my favorite truck and still running strong when I just parked it.
Great video. I just bought a 17 XL w the the 5.0, , 4wd with 100k. As an XL, very plane but for me driving it 4000 miles per year, it’s all I need. It runs like beast, sounds great and pretty excited to run it in the snow in western NY. I PAID $19k …. Going to get it rustproofed. Should last a long time.
I had a 2017 with the coyote engine already paid off and stupidly I traded it for a 2022 tremor because I wanted 4x4 and fell in love with the tremor trim while at the dealership. I had a very bad 2023 year financially and had to sell the tremor. Luckily I had enough equity in it that I was able to get a little Toyota rav4 cash so I’m in a good place without a car note but I wish I still was driving that 17 😢. We live and we learn.
My only complaints about my 2016 5.0 XLT would be the radio screen is way too small. 4.2" screen I think and its very noticeable when backing up to hitch up a trailer. Better than nothing I suppose. Second complaint would be because it is the supercrew and a 6.5' bed, the turning radius in comparable to an aircraft carrier. Other than that it has been a great truck for me. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't get the supercrew, I was fine with the supercab on my 2010 and opt for the larger radio screen.
I purchased a 2014 f140 xlt 4x4 with a 5.0. I love the truck. The guy that owned was from Iowa so it does have some rust on the cab corners, but we he did take care of it because there is minimal rust on the frame.
Gotta love the NA V8 brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160,000 miles on it and still going strong and its a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla ATAK exhaust on it as well.
Thank you very much for your experience/ opinion on the best years of trucks. I am a Boat Mechanic and deal with all the common issues I see regular. However I fix all my own vehicles too and don't get to see what years are best. I have a 14 F150 with the 6.2 in fx4 package. Truck has been amazing and just rolled 430Km. Due to high K I am wanting to research and look for the best used truck. Since the 6.2 Isn't available anymore naturally I want the 5.0. Now I know what years are best to look for. Thanks again.
I'd agree with this statement that the 15-17 5.0 is the best F150 out there, still in 2023. I have a 2020 3.5 Eco and I love it, have had zero issues after 3 years. I wouldn't buy a 5.0 unless it was 2011-2017.
I have the 2017 with the 5.0 and it’s been a good truck. Did get a check engine light for some sort of stuck intake runner around 40,000 miles (luckily it was covered under the 5yr power train warranty or it would have been a $1k repair). Great mix of power and fuel economy (19 hwy) compared to the 2003 I owned previously.
I have 17 f 250. It has death wobble at times. Changed front end stuff , tires , tie rod ends, bushings and one left side hub assembly. All four rotors changed and ford oem parts We did the tires and tire pressure sensors
Hey Rich could you do a short video explaining the differences between Traction Control, Advanced Trac, and Advanced Trac Sport Mode and how to disable them?
Great info. I have a '97 5.4 off road (gen 10 flagship year), approaching 300k but now looking for a good used xlt and, I've already determined after much research, 2015 to17 gen 2 , 5.0 is the way to rock. Your video confirms I am in the right direction. It's hard to find one with under 150 k on it for a reasonable price. You know what they say- 'you'll know when you get there'. Thanks!
Drove a 2014 f150 from 2014 to 2017. And then I got a 2017 XLT 5.0 V8 in Feb of 2017. It was 53,000 and I put 25,000 cash down on it. Best money I ever spent. 🙏🏼 Dont focus on the year.....it's only new for a couple months. What's more important is.....get a F150 period......and leave yourself a few thousand dollars to adjust/ add onto it the way you want. A f150 is a f150 no matter what. They are all special and great. Just insure the 4x4 is good. And it's a 4 door. Best family vehicle ever.
I'm hoping to upgrade to a truck like yours. I currently drive a 08 F150 5.4 4x4 that I bought new and it now has 256,000 miles and is still just a comfortable truck but I can only imagine how much better the newer trucks are. 😎👍👍🤙
Take care and save your money which you provably doing already as it just wheels . I have several friends with over 250000 with no issues and regular oil changes . Be well .
I got a 2016 5.0 f150 only issues I've had in the past 5 years - starter went out, easy fix - chp sensor got wet or whatever it's called when I was getting a car wash I think bc I turned off my truck during the car wash, causing my engine to think it's over heating when it wasn't, easy fix , In the same wet instance my wiper blade switch got shorted as well, easy fix- my first truck ever but I love it I don't want to trade in for a new truck , only problem I'm having is the paint peeling off in some random areas- also live in Minnesota so that doesn't help otherwise it's my favorite vehicle I ever owned !
I have a 2017 F150 5.0 King Ranch 2wd here in Florida. I tuned it, cai, exhaust and it wins some loses some. I'm not a racer but a stock trix was ahead but ran outta speed at the limiter and I blew by him at 140. I've been 11240 pounds grcw and it runs with the powerboost and diesels. 93 oct with boostane octane booster. So basically running race fuel. Mpg is great, full tank 486 miles to empty
I just bought a 2015 Lariat with 6400 miles and it seems awesome so far. 5.0 6speed is the best combo. Still have a 2013 5.0 6speed with 235000 miles runs great
I have had a 2015 5.0 coyote f150 since new. The only complaints I have are the stock belt tensioners went out WAY too soon (3 years), the vacuum hub system is a nightmare due to yearly solenoid failure right after winter, the transmission cooler lines rusts through a little too easily (replaced this year along with fluid and filter) and the suspension is fairly garbage, could not handle the weight of aftermarket tires and wheels. (replaced everything with bilstein and hellwig swaybars front and back). Other than that, solid truck. What I like about the platform is that you can keep upgrading the truck as the years go by because ford keeps the base frame the same and the aftermarket parts are endless. I will probably keep this truck going for 30+ years. As long as the frame holds up, I'm keeping this truck.
I have a V6 Twin Turbo 6 Speed 2015 F150 XLT. The shifting feels great for me and has power. Since im young its great and more than I need. I would like my next one to be a Lariat thinking I would like the V8 for longevity.
Close to 250k on my 2017 f150 no real problems. *corrected. Also got one issue that’s not really a big deal, there’s a decent amount of rust on my undercarriage. I live in a cold climate w/tons of exposure to salt while driving to diff sites.
I just got a Ford XLT and I’m real happy with it me and my wife we’re going to buy a 21 XLT Ford we’re just hoping it’s got the coyote motor in it too. We’re hoping that it’s gonna be as good as this 2015 will see.
stuck between 2017 5.0l with 6 speed or 2021 and above 5.0l with 10 speed i had the 2017 3.5 ecoboost and it was a nightmare with the 10 speed now jus wondering if the 10 speed is actually better in the newer 5.0l and only other reason i wanna get the 2021 and above is cuz the interior jus looks soooo much nicer other than thats i never had a 6 speed 5.0l idk what to do soo confused
Which one did you get? FWIW, I had the same question and likely getting the 2021+ for the updated coyote with the higher redline and more power, despite cylinder deactivation.
I got the 2015 f150 platinum 5.0 with 152k on it and no issues yet, but I noticed that the rear bumper looks like if it was starting to rust, and one corner on the front bumper the clear coat is peeling off. But so far so good, I cant complain plus they're dicent on gas, at 66mph I average 20-21mpg
When I bought my 18 eco 10speed it was stupid clunky for 2.5 weeks. Then it became the smoothest shifting vehicle I’ve ridden in. The only time it’s clunked at all since is the first immediate acceleration after a cold start. And that’s only because my truck isn’t used to me accelerating slowly.
I agree, the 1998-2003 interior/dash was hideous looking. I bought my 2003 (5.4L) brand new. But that's all we had then as the 2015-2017 F150 was still another 12 years in the future. Once you got past the "rolling hills" ugly, bland colored, all cheap plastic dash the truck did well for me. 285K miles and I only replaced an alternator, water pump, fuel pump. Otherwise, being a southwest desert truck the body was rust free and the paint still like new as well as the interior. At the very end the a/c compressor imploded and since I'm in Phx that was a must have and so I sold it in 2018 as wasn't worth the cost and simply time to upgrade.
Glad to see the positive things about these. Gonna trade my 17 5.0 mustang for a 17 f150 5.0, need to carry my bikes around 😅hopefully I won’t miss the mustang
I was a tech up until 2019 and I can assure you the 6 speed has its issues as well. Also I can assure all of you the 08-20 toyota tundra 4.7 or 5.7 is the best truck you can buy for reliability and im not just talking about the engine or transmission, I'm talking about everything, mpg isnt the best and the interior didn't get a real upgrade until the new Gen but the new toyota tundras are trash. I do like the f150s but only because of the interior and I am about to buy a 23 ford f150 tremor with the 5.0, they look great inside and out and as long as it has a warranty and I still have my 2 tundras as back up I am comfortable buying the new f150s with the new tech.
NEVER . To many mid-year manufacturing changes and single year proprietary parts . I watch your videos all the time , And see the struggles and the cra cra failures . Nope never gonna convince me to ever buy a ford anything . Love your videos though keep ‘em coming .
I'm sorry you feel that way I don't understand why you watch the videos though if everything's pretty much on Fords but I guess that's all up to you not me
I just traded in my 2018 Tacoma sr5 v6 (75,000 miles) for a 2016 f-150 Lariat (105,000 miles) with the 5.0 and 4x4. I’m in love with my ford. I like it a lot more than my Tacoma. I just hope it lasts a long time because my Tacoma never gave me any issues. My dad has a 2012 f-250 Lariat with 250k miles on it. Construction truck towing a bobcat skid steer, rebar and wood daily. It’s only left him stranded once
Absolutely love mine! Always get the ford jokes about “fix or repair daily” blah blah blah… but it’s been nothing but amazing. I used to be that typical Chevy guy making fun of ford… that was until I got one for myself
I am happy to hear your thoughts and ideas for vehicle maintenance and better outcomes for getting a vehicle that has dependable history and less manufacturing defects and some vehicles are plagued with so many problems. Again like your ideas and strategies on vehicle issues with details about those issues. Take Care Cheers!
Bought a new 2017 4X Offroad XLT with the 5.0/6speed. With 120k on it now it just went off the extended warranty I purchased from the dealership. Only minor repairs was an oil pan gasket at 100k, a cabin temp mixing valve (the lower one) at 80k and most recently last month my brake master cylinder had to be replaced when it was taking too much pedal to stop. I keep it serviced and have had all the fluids replaced (several times on some). Would I purchase again ??? Yep 100%. I pulled the trigger on this year because it was the last run of a proven generation and I didn't want that stupid start/stop and 10 speed to deal with. Now with Ford's recall on 500k 10 speeds for shifting into low gear at speed, I'm glad I 'm not riding in that Pinto issue.
_I’ll probably be buying a 2018 F150 with 130k miles. It seems good but the mileage seems high for the price. 🌞 Good to find a review from an owner instead of a dealer. Very informative._
If you're getting a 2.7 L ecobooster pretty solid but the ten speed transmission does have shift issues If you are getting a 3.5 L EcoBoost they had between 2017 and 2020 cam phaser rattle on Startup issues with the timing components and there was a third generation change to the cam phaser to fix the red line startup but not everybody went and got it in time and it also has the 10 speed shifting issue And then you had the 2018 to 2020 F-150 with the 5.0 l and 10 speed transmission that had oil consumption problems and also shifting problems so I typically tell people if you're going to buy an F-150 2015 to 2017 5.0 is your best bet
Would love to see your thoughts on high mileage 7.3L godzilla, thinking of trading in my 6.7L. Willing to give up the torque for simplicity if it’s a good design
My dad had a 2012 F150 with the 5.0 in it, and the 6 speed auto, and that thing was great truck. The NYS road salt took got to her though. The 5.0 has to be Fords best overall engine right now.
I have a 2017 F-150 with the 2.7 6 speed EcoBoost that my dad bought for me. I drive it like a grandpa tbh, but I’ve had 0 issues so far at 127k still on original turbos. I would hesitate buying another 2.7 EcoBoost but I don’t want to because of the 10 speed transmission.
Rich, if I was in the market for a truck, I would DEFINITELY buy what you recommend. It's like a butcher I go to. If I want a steak and he recommends some T-bones instead of Ribeyes, guess what I'm buying? Listen to the people who know what they're talking about.
I understand what you're saying. The whole truck the whole package. It's best I I agree except for if they had a manual option it would be the best ever complete. No conversation.... Nobody to argue, but since we're in modern times in the market is why we don't have manual transmission, not the manufacturer. They would love to give us manual transmission so you can get better gas mileage if driven. Leisurely... Of course, if you drive a manual fast it will get worse than an automatic, but.. the market doesn't want manual transmissions anymore... But then again there'll be too reliable for the modern day manufacturer
I picked up a 15 Lariat 5.0 with 41k miles today for $25. I made sure not to get the A10, I had that transmission in my 22 GT Premium Mustang and it would lurch and hunt for gears and Ford wouldn't acknowlege the issue, ended up trading it in for a 24 GT Premium M6. Got the truck so I wouldn't put so many miles on the Mustang. Glad I picked it up.
Rich you checked all the boxes on why I bought a 2017 F 150 5.0.New transmission, start stop, spray weld cylinders with low tension rings. I didn't want to spend that much money and pay to be an experiment for Ford. That and the fact it was the year end sale. When I bought it the sales guy couldn't understand why I didn't want a 2018 or any part of the 3.5. LOL.
AWESOME VID. It’s like I was driving to work myself. You did an awesome job of jumping on the maintenance of your truck and this vid is just mesmerizing. I drive to work Monday thru Friday in my 2003 F150 with a 4.2 V6 pulling me to my job. Like you, I have a commute, but not nearly as long; about 42 miles round trip. My truck is running great because I started adding Marvel Mystery Oil into her because of you! Stay Blessed!
I recently purchased a 2012 F-150 with 80k miles with the 5.0. One owner by an older owner who took expectational care of it. I’m hoping to have good luck with it 🤞
I just had the transmission rebuilt on my 2016 f150 5.0...after 309,000 miles. The engine is still strong! Works great!
My Grandma just passed away and I inherited her 2015 platinum f150 5.0 love this truck gonna have it a long time
Oh man. What a great thing to have. Remember your oil changes every 5k and do the larger maintenance at 100k and 150k.
I have the 2011 lariat, with 214,000 and driven a lot daily! If I ever have to upgrade I’ll get the 2015
What are the larger maintenance that needs to be done at 100 & 150k@@gale212
I just purchased a 2017 5.0 with the 6 speed this morning! Super clean truck with 70,000 miles on her for $28,000! After seeing this video and a few others that are saying the same thing you’re saying it makes me very happy about my purchase. Thank you!
Four wheel drive ?
How's it treating you? Planning to get one at the end of this year.
They say the 2017 was the best year of the decade. 5.0 with the 6 speed is bullet proof. Change oil every 4K miles trans pan drop ever 50k. Do that and you can pass it down forever
How many miles have you put on it now ? Any issues
Hoping that’s a sign of the known reliability of the 2015-2017 years.
I bought my 2015 5.0 brand new, 8 years later still love it! Excellent daily driver with 225 KM on it, can’t wait til she reaches that 300 mark
Not really a fan of the aesthetics of any of the newer 🛻.
Thank You!
2nd gen coyote is probably Fords best engine of the last 15-20 years when you look at all criteria.
Getting a 2015 5.0 King Ranch in Hunter Green tomorrow. So pumped!
Congratulations bro !! You will love it
@@eddroberts1681 oh I do! Lol
Any issues? The 2015 were know to have some 1st gen issues
@@Roger-il8iw nope!! First year down and it’s great!
How many miles on your pickup? That’s impressive to keep rust off it! -fellow Minnesotan
I’ve got a 2017 F150 FX4 with the 5.0l. It has 155k miles on it and not a single problem! Great truck!
You haven’t had any jerking or clunking with down shifts or up shifts?
42K? That's a lot of sitting after 8-9 yrs.
Just bought a 2017 5.0 6 speed
I’m pumped after watching this
I have a 2014 F150 Lariat 5.0 with 201,000 miles on it. Zero issues with the truck since day one when I drove it off the lot.
Great video !! I looked for 6 months before I found the truck I wanted. 2016 f150 fx4 5.0 ,3.73 lockers,leather interior like no other fx4 I've seen.
That’s the same truck I want. It’s difficult to find one with the 373 gears and big gas tank.
We just picked up a 35K mile '17 F150 with the 5.0. It is such a good runner and will be with us for a long time
I bought my 2017 5.0 with the same frame of mind.
Good video, I already knew this 5.0 was the best but you gave me more reasons as to why it’s the best.
Buy an aftermarket Raptor grill and have it paint matched for $400 or so all in.
Hows it held up?
I’m looking at a ‘17 xlt with the 5.0 and this video helps a lot with my decision. Thanks for the info.
Type of info I was looking for. Thank you. Will be buying these years in the future.
Your truck gets a nice highway run to work. Motor must love it!
Ford Boss...You missed my exit at Roselle. This is great!...Just bought a 2017 Lariat in December at a dealer in Elk Grove Village, same powertrain< LOADED My first truck!
60k miles...out the door 35k
Man I LOVE this vehicle....I checked them all out not a car guy but I know the engine and powertrain can do almost anything and are TRIED AND TRUE!!!
The non turbo 3.7 is mind-boggling fast. I can't wrap my mind around how much power engines today are making.
This one is way faster lol
Agree with you on this one. 18+ coyote had oil consumption issues, plastic oil pan, auto-stop before the 14th gen f150s.
My 2016 with the six speed seems to read my mind and shifts smoothly and well.
Transmission issues
Brake failures
Door mechanical issues
Valve cover leaks
Oil pan leaks
Rear main seal leaks
I had a small oil pan gasket leak, could smell it on a rainy day and I had to have my brake master cylinder replace as it was taking too much pedal to get the same results. 2017 with 120K. Purchased new from dealer.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
Straight six with dual fuel tanks and it needed them 😢
My dad has a 92’ with a 4.9 and just hit 411,000 miles.
Thanks brother! Have a safe and blessed weekend!
That's my truck! I have a 2017 V8 5.0L Ford F-150 SuperCrew 6.5 ft bed. Only has 37,000 miles on it. I love that truck.
I think the 2.7 is best engine option for the average F150. Love my Cobb Access port TCM tune and E85 and 93 tune!! 421WHP 525 Torque!!
I agree. If you want reliable and cheap hp gains, 2.7 is a formidable platform. Mine is e50 tuned and has been phenomenal. 208K and counting.
I bought a 2015 Lariat 4x4 6 speed 150 new! Still got it, I love it, only has 83k miles on it, I plan on keeping it forever!
I own a 14 f150 5.0L. 9yr old no issues yet. Just oil and transmission fluid change so far. Still on original battery which is amazing.
I couldn’t agree more! I have the 2015 f-150 5.0 4x4. Bought it brand new. Wouldn’t have anything else!
I purchased a 2014 f140 xlt 4x4 with a 5.0. I love the truck. The guy that owned was from Iowa so it does have some rust on the cab corners, but we he did take care of it because there is minimal rust on the frame.
I have a 2016 F150 5 L and you’re right it’s been an amazing truck. The only issue I’ve been having is my sunroof.
Yeah I already have a video about that situation in the library
We bought our 2015 new, still have it, very happy with the 5.0.
I have 17 f 250. It has death wobble at times.
Changed front end stuff , tires , tie rod ends, bushings and one left side hub assembly. All four rotors changed and ford oem parts
We did the tires and tire pressure sensors
Hey Rich could you do a short video explaining the differences between Traction Control, Advanced Trac, and Advanced Trac Sport Mode and how to disable them?
If I remember
I love mine! 2016 5.0 4x4 109000 trouble free miles.I had a 96 7.3 4x4 and had 300,000 MLS on it when I sold it and got my 16 f150
Be well .
@daxd8358 Thanks brother 👍👍😎
Your videos sometimes catch me dream drifting lol Craig's list.
I have a 2015 5.0 with the 6R80... perfect with 3.73 rear...love it...102,000 so far...it will likely last forever.
Still have a 2013 5.0 6speed with 235000 miles runs great
Currently a 21+ RCSB xlt coyote owner. If I had to do it again I would get a 17-20. Aftermarket support is key
15 - 17 was prime..... 18 - 20 had oil consumption issues
I have a 2014 f150 with 5.0 380,000 still going strong
Everything original on that truck? That’s a good amount of miles!
Got a 2016 xlt and love it. Next truck will probably be a 2017 king ranch or platinum.
2018 was the 3rd Gen have oil consumption issues
If you're getting a 2.7 L ecobooster pretty solid but the ten speed transmission does have shift issues
If you are getting a 3.5 L EcoBoost they had between 2017 and 2020 cam phaser rattle on Startup issues with the timing components and there was a third generation change to the cam phaser to fix the red line startup but not everybody went and got it in time and it also has the 10 speed shifting issue
And then you had the 2018 to 2020 F-150 with the 5.0 l and 10 speed transmission that had oil consumption problems and also shifting problems so I typically tell people if you're going to buy an F-150 2015 to 2017 5.0 is your best bet
Love mines, did my research bought it used with some miles on it, but love this thang
Would love to see your thoughts on high mileage 7.3L godzilla, thinking of trading in my 6.7L. Willing to give up the torque for simplicity if it’s a good design
Great video!
Just bought a Ford F-150 V8 5.0 L today, but have no idea what engine is in it.
Only $24k mikes on it. Gets delivered next week.
My dad had a 2012 F150 with the 5.0 in it, and the 6 speed auto, and that thing was great truck. The NYS road salt took got to her though. The 5.0 has to be Fords best overall engine right now.
Absolutely
“Go cry to your mommy”. Lmfao good shit bro.🤘🏽
Thanks, you too!
I recently purchased a 2012 F-150 with 80k miles with the 5.0. One owner by an older owner who took expectational care of it. I’m hoping to have good luck with it 🤞
You will
