The History of Raf Simons

- Raf Simons is one of the most influential designers in the history of fashion. We all know that he’s a favorite among celebrities like Kanye West and A$AP Rocky, but in this video we’ll be going all the way back to the very beginning. We’ll see how he got his start in the industry without going to school for fashion, the most important shows early in his career (including Black Palms, Riot Riot Riot, and Virginia Creeper), his appointment at Jil Sander, the drama surrounding his departure, his work at Dior, the move to Calvin Klein, and then finally his arrival at Prada. We’ll also be looking at how he impacted the sneaker game with his Adidas partnership, featuring standouts like the Ozweegos and Stan Smiths. Overall this journey is truly an inspiring one to look back at, and I’m excited for you all to watch. This is the history of Raf Simons.

I was really giving up on doing clothing and finding your channel and hearing about everyones story has really motivated me to keep going.
What’s your brand called bro? Brand owner here as well
Right! owning a clothing brand isn’t easy & takes a lot of mental toughness
@@Tauhir331 what’s your brand?
Been a brand owner for 5 years and it’s a marathon bro Social media can make or break you but building a community behind your brand will give it a strong structure!
Peace ✌🏾
@@raidteamco.7438 good insight! What is your brand n how could we make a community behind our brands?
One thing’s missing. The yearly collection with Fred Perry. He’s kind of leading the way FP is moving, keeping the grunges/punk dna, with full Raf design year after year. It’s underrated for sure.
Still wear my fred perry raf all the time
Not sure if anyone else said it on here yet, but I believe the “NEBRASKA” sweatshirts are in reference to Basquiat. There’s a very famous photo of him wearing a “Nebraska” football Jersey from the 80s. And I feel this fits in line with Raf’s aesthetic and love of rebelliousness and art
That Has to be it, I can't believe how no one caught that...that was brilliant 🤝🎨
Holy smokes - this is the truest form of fashion history I've found on YT. Coming from someone who's worked with ONEWARD, VF etc, this is the content I hope gets out to more folks!
means the world thank you 🙏
It may be hard to believe, but the Riot - Virginia Creeeper - Consumed era collections were hard work to sell. They were well received in the alternative fashion media, but consumer bases were scant. We had boxes of the stuff from all these collections, going at 70% off, and still hardly shifting. The late 90s early 00s mens fashion world was not locked into a celebrity culture. The context now has shifted, and we see this as position normal.
This channel is such a gift for those who Love fashion
happy to hear that thank you!
The longer the better, going from fashion videos to fashion documentaries.
Your station and videos are inspirational not only to designers, whom I see many comments from! but anyone can appreciate your comprehensive and eclectic content . even a bit spiritual ! I love how you work the concept of fate, timing , and destiny into these docs ..I’m sure you inspire a lot of fashion designers
Raf at CK was chef freaking kiss!
agree, i liked it a lot more than it got credit for
great video! as someone who loves fashion and wearing clothes I am trying to brush up on the history of the brands and designers that I love, your videos have been very fundamental in helping me do that. Thank you.

Great video as always!! I had a mind blown moment with the Nebraska logo. RAF being the original reference on the continued use of the word Nebraska in street wear. Makes sense and connects many dots.

Great video bro I am a die hard Raf fan I have alot of his older archival pieces and I love to study his older collections so this video came at the right time. Now I def want to get some more pieces thanks to this video since I sold one of my AW 2000-2001 "Confusion" patched sweaters. I def want to get some more Black Palms pieces I only have 1 from that collection.
Another great video.. thanks again for the amazing content & teaching me more about another designer I love

babe wake up, Threaducation uploaded
Haven't watched this episode yet (already know it's gonna be fire)...but after you watch it, go watch the Raf doc Dior And I. It's phenomenal and shows Raf's genius in it's rawest form.
Finally a new upload!
great vid! speaking on current era: loved the first collection of men and women's at prada and the latest ones are gorge re: accessories
thanks man awesome script and awesome audio recording with the punches. !
As a clothing designer myself, im very very inspired by the likes of Raf & Rick, there was information in this I didn't know at all, some of the best designers in the world want to be nobody, passion over accolades 🖤
I don’t understand why people always associate Raf and Rick, like they don’t have a lot in common, their approachs are very different. I would rather make a link between Raf and Undercover for example. But anyway, I respect the fact that you have these as inspirations, they are both incredible designers.
🔥fire as always🔥
Been waiting on this one and thank u for using this track for the background 💜
What track is this?
Awsome vid!!
I love these brand history videos
This was awesome and u definitely need to make a video on JIL SANDER
I love this channel
need a Maison Margiela video next
Great video man! Keep on doing that stuff. I would love to see one about Alexander mcqueen or Martin Margiela
ahh the one we've been waiting for
W UPLOAD ONCE AGAIN‼️‼️
Great video! You got yourself a new subscriber!
beautiful video
The video implies Raf at CK was a downmarket move but Calvin Klein’s RTW and diffusion lines (the jeans, underwear, perfurm, etc) were made by 2 separate companies. The RTW was just as prestigious as any American label could be, but the diffusion lines eclipsed the brand, and made the RTW unsellable to high-end retail buyers.
I LOVE THIS
Would love to see more history on women designers. Love what you’re doing
I love the storytelling approach to this video. Very comprehensive and educational. New fan! PS Not a big fan of Raf on his own. If we can’t explain why a sweater with the word Nebraska on the front was popular as a fashion piece then it’s a case of the emperor has no clothes. I do though enjoy his work at Prada.
Thank you so much from costa rica
Another banger from my man overhear Ty
Dope work mane
thank you mane
I’m
New to this Chanel and I love it 🥰
Love this. Please do a Maison Margiela one!!

If you ever do a video on Jil Sander can you include Lucie and Luke Meier? I find their story interesting and their taste is really good
Yes I'd love to see one of Jil Sander

the storytelling game is on point
Great content bro🔥
Can you please do Margiela next🙌🏾
The skeletons beat is my favorite background music you use
Thank you again! Raf is very important to me. You have to do Margiela and steve lacy
Finally some videos of real designers and not only that Soho gang, ian connor, playboi carti lame shit! Enjoy the content lately! + love the background beat!
