Holy shit is it the same Ryan Gosling from the Among Us movie???? Edit: apparently there is an actual movie named Fall Guy and I responded with brainrot, my apologies BKC.
What I love about aerodactyl in gen 3 is that it actually feels like the fastest thing alive. There’s barely any priority in the tier and there’s no choice scarfers to outspeed it.
@@komodovah6433 It can try, but even as a potential Aero counter, it struggles against a lot of more common special walls (Bliss, Snorlax) and is further limited by what HP it gets. If it gets HP Grass to take on mons like Swampert, it gets walled by Celebi, and vice versa for HP Ice.
@@johnsanko4136for a while i was running swampert + flygon on every team just so i could annoy electrics regardless of the hidden power they were using
I mean this with full sincerety: I love that you just keep going past the outside vehicle audio while other TH-camrs would cut or restart a script read lol
Another thing I realized is that with a spike and sand down aero is able to OHKO nearly every OU mon above 85 speed if they are not running bulk (jirachi is a roll or u need more spikes, gengar needs a bit of chip damage, flygon is obviously an exception). It’s the perfect mon to punish people who just slap 252 attack and speed on offensive mons and call it a day
This video made me realize for the first time how similar aero is to my favorite mon to use: Nidoking! In gens 6-8 I would always ladder with a nidoking team and have consistent success with it. Even though it’s a mon that requires a lot of pseudo-50-50s (e.g., ice beam the lando vs ep the tar) and gets outsped and OHKO’d by so many things, it’s incredibly resilient. It resist rocks, is either immune to or doesn’t care about every status, and its electric immunity and fairy resist give it a surprising amount of opportunities to hit the field. I found that even if my opponent was outplaying me and getting every turn right, I would eventually get the one turn I needed correct due to having so many opportunities granted by a strong defensive backbone. The similarities are astonishing!!! I’m officially an aerodactyl superfan.
BKC can you put a jump scare in one of your videos? Don’t acknowledge this comment, just do it randomly, make the volume lower than usual and then shout something scary like “THE PHYSICAL SPECIAL SPLIT!”. Many thanks
My new Jolteon Cloyster team has won me 3 games in a row by winning that speed tie. What a interesting balance. The two fastest in the tier 1 shot each other and speed tie
absolutely love how you were trying to wrap up the video at around 17:45 because of the noise in the background however you couldn't help yourself but keep talking about aero for 10 more minutes
Best part of ADV is how people just seem to be chill. Getting a flinch in gen 9 : Opponent cussing you out Getting a flinch in gen 3 : "Dang that do how it be. GG."
things are more tense than this in reality but it is true that people are very considerate of the aero/ddtar flinch factor so trying to check them with non-rock resists is generally not the most reliable strategy! not sure if there's anything similar in gen 9
As someone who got into ADV late, I put Aero on one of the first teams I ever built and I have never taken it out since. It is a cornerstone of my identity as an ADV player and a mon I always consider when building a team. As a fellow Lanturn Gang player too their synergy is tremendous, they eat each others' weaknesses for breakfast.
in any other gen a way to counter aero would be to wittle it down with rocks, or to use priority moves at it until it drops. Its cool in advance because the only way to really beat it is to wall it out with a swampert or skarmory. advance’s real lack of priority makes it interesting because it punishes giving your opponent free turns to do stuff like set up spikes on skarmory or click soft boiled on blissey. Stuff like that can let suicune get a calm mind off or for aero or heracross to get a subsitute going, or even to get punished by a focus punch. But its also cool because the defensive pokemon in the tier dont feel unbreakable, with arena trap and magnet pull and everything runs HP grass etc, and defensive play doesnt feel as free - no pivoting moves outside of baton pass, no regenerator, less fishing for status with scald or static or flame body. I dont know, I think I just appreciate how balanced advance can feel except for a few things. I havent delved much deeper into other gens apart from 9 so i couldnt comment p.s. Ive tried running Choice Banded adamant flygon quick attack in advance. It saved me from a belly drum salac charizard once. felt pretty proud of that.
I said the title of this video almost verbatim the other day talking to my friend about ADV OU. Something about the edge of May that makes you appreciate the flying dino.
With Aerodactyl getting Rock Head, here’s a buff for it for modern gens: It gets access to Head Smash and Brave Bird, as additional STAB options, as it’s kinda wacky that a Pokémon with Rock Head only gets one recoil move that Rock Head lets it spam, and one that it doesn’t even get STAB on. It also gets access to Flare Blitz, Wild Charge, and Wave Crash for coverage. Oh, and U-Turn is always nice to have. Also, as Aerodactyl is a bit frail to run Pressure, I’d give it Sand Force instead, so it can go crazy on sand teams. That 130 Speed means it normally outspeeds everything, so it doesn’t need Sand Rush, and it has good Ground and Steel coverage options.
Ive been using your celebi lead special tar tss aero team on ladder to get back into competitive pokemon and it's been so fun. Every time I play I feel rewarded for making good decisions and positioning whether I win or lose, and aero is a big part of that. I hadn't considered using it as a pivot so Im gonna try that out. Do you have any advice for tweaking teams? I never feel like the adjustments I make to older teams gives me solve anything.
I'm glad you like it and that it still works! see what pokes you're struggling with and try to figure out how you can adjust things to deal with them while maintaining what makes the team effective
Thoughts on sub Aero? I've been running into it quite a bit recently and it's genuinely terrifying if Skarm is too chipped to phase. Definitely less flexible, though, I feel like I only really see it on SD Pass.
Hey kev, can’t seem to get Flygon to work when team building in ADV. do you think flygon is worth it when building? One of these 20 minute videos on how to incorporate flygon would be awesome. Thanks
During this video, you mentioned several other powerful flyers (Mence and Skarm), and it got me wondering how Superman is doing in the current meta. That team has always interested me and seems like a relatively beginner friendly way to start ADV OU.
How good do you think archeops would be in this gen, hits harder (140 base atk) than aerodactyl and even harder tyranitar , has great speed (110 base speed) but is slower than aerodactyl. But he has its drawback in defeatist , which doesnt seem as bad as the newer gens because of no stealth rock.
it's generally the better choice, threatening cele harder is a really big deal, as is the supereffective smack on dol, and being able to threaten both of these pokemon while not allowing a ttar switch is REALLY huge (you don't get pursuited and don't allow a dd, most notably, but generally great for not giving opportunities to any ttar that'd otherwise be an annoying momentum reversal. the extra damage on mie doesn't come into play often but is also a highly significant tool in games against it (posing a greater threat to bulky mie is huge for aero spikes teams given that it's generally a nuisance). flying's best quality--apart from the obvious hera/loom ohkos that rarely come into play--is being able to smack pert and gar in one move (as well as, say, mence). an extra move to hit pert and gon is nice so you're not solely going off double edge, and the stab means it has generally good spammability. the third hp option I didn't mention in the video is more specific but still legitimate; hp fighting, though it loses the 31 speed iv, can be seriously effective, since the cold ohko on ttar is incredibly useful for revenge killing one that's already gotten a dd and is out of eq range. if you're in that situation and it gets a dd you're probably toast so being able to always beat it even at full hp is really helpful for some teams. mcmeghan demonstrated this on some jira dol spikes thing he had vs cyberodin in spl last year (iirc). the (threat of) tar ohko also makes aero a decent lead for some teams looking to mix it up, since you also beat zap. the extra damage can also be really huge for picking off blissey at higher ranges, and can help muscle through lax better in a pinch
nah hp fly is v strong, esp on adamant aero (niche but legit), it also helps a lot w fighters who aren't salac hera; bug is better a lot of the time for the above mentioned reasons but fly is still great
