Ancient netbattle player here who basically quit after netbattle died. Here's a brain dump about this set: The name BOAHTar comes from the German word for "wow". The set made a lot more sense back in the day when milotic and dusclops were much, much more common. Fireblast wasn't that great because it only marginally helped vs skarm and the purpose was to be a stall breaker so you needed that milo/suicune coverage rather than meta/rachi. Pursuit trapping Gengar wasn't common because they also ran sub punch to beat twave seismic toss blissey, so tar wasn't nearly the iron clad spinblocker counter it is now, and of course pursuit doesn't kill clops. Basically you'd rather tack on sub punch to your special tar than waste moveslots. Additionally, swampert wasn't as omnipresent because of more competition from donphan and flygon, so hp grass wasn't on every special attacker. Even zapdos ran hp ice pretty often!
Boa Tar existed to take advantage of the Net Battle quirk of Substitute blocking Rapid Spin. It also needed Thunder for Surf Suicune. (edit: and Milotic)
This was an awesome, informative video; thank you for the upload! One thing to note, i do think the video quality could improve by turning the music down just a tad. You talk pretty low, and having the music at the current volume level really drowns out your commentary, making it hard to hear you at times. Otherwise a stellar video and I’m excited to see more in the future!
Peak 1600 the other day using the relic version with Thunder. Pretty good against Milo and Suicune if they switch in and get the paralysis. I think that Fire Blast over Thunder it's better for sure.
I remember many years ago i tried boa in a tournament and was very disappointed with its damage output. It got 3 surprise hits off, but didn't do enough damage to win me the match. I think i was using t bolt over thunder tho.
