I followed your instructions and made the tester. Hooked it up to my lawn mower to test it. It worked...kinda. The mower runs but there is no spark visible in the plastic tube. I adjusted the gap to almost touching and then I kept making the gap bigger til the mower quit but there was never a spark. Tried it on my weed wacker too but can't get a spark in the tube even though it runs good. I did it in the dark in case the spark was so weak you couldn't see it in the dayight.

p.s. Love the modification you used to retain the spark plug tips! That's definitely an improvement over how I threw mine together and if you don't mind, I'll borrow your idea and upgrade mine! Cheers again! Zip~

ZippoVarga Thanks for the subscribe. Feel free to use any of my ideas. My lift is a handy lift and yes it is air powered. The two extensions are removable. Maybe I will do a video on that.

Pretty good idea , I grew up in South Florida and used to ground out a Spark Plug to the car or engine but in Florida’s Sunshine it was sometimes too bright to see the Spark sometime we had to do the test later that day in the dark

Interesting. I assume the heat shrink is to insulate the assembly when current goes through it aswell as to keep the clear tube together? I dont have heat shrink off hand for tomorrow. Could i use cable ties secured very hard on each end instead of heat shrink to keep tube in place over the lead ends?

Zip ties would work fine. If the wire fit snug into the tube you don’t have to use anything. The heat shrink I use just keeps it all together.

Place black electrical tape on the backside of the clear tubing leaving a small viewings window . This helps for viewing in bright sunlight . 2/23

I needed this video because I need 7/16 gap precise to check the spark on my boat . So far I haven't found a spark tester thats adjustable although they probably do make them . I will make one myself . Thanks for sharing Bone

Is the 1/4 of inch (6mm) what you find best measurement....not 3 or 4 or 5 mm? I imagine it must be a good coil to spark over a long gap ???. Thanks for your reply.
