Gentlemen, I've been trying for months to figure out why an Echo PB255 blower wouldn't start even though it has 90 pounds of compression, spark, and fuel. After finding this video, I learned that it uses the same flywheel and thus the same replacement parts. I followed your video, and the blower lives again! Thank you so much for your efforts! A thousand blessings upon you and your families!
Taryl fixes all are the BEST videos ever on small engine DIY repair! Good job fellas! This was perfect and I don't even have an Echo leaf blower but you learn stuff that just gives you confidence doing other small engine jobs. Thanx!
Good job Jaryl.....looking forward to your channel.......Thanks for all the work you guys put into these videos.....one of the best channels on the Tube...
I have a Remington Ambush that may have same problem, it will start with starting fluid but won't keep running unless I have full choke on. I did take apart and clean the carbitrator once already and that didn't seem to improve it. I figure I may pull the carbitrator apart once again and double check that fine screen again, perhaps even though it looks clear there might be som "resins " remaining that I can't actually see and an air blast failed to remove. Thanks for another Great Video ..... Bravo !
You really do cover everything. I just bought this new looking blower at a junkyard for $20 and I had the exact same problem. Sheared fly wheel. Thanks for the part numbers. Really helps out a diy mechanic. I did the same thing he did for troubleshooting and then when to check the coil and damn the flywheel is free spinning. At this time I thought , gotta see what taryl has to say about this
Great video. I learned a lot. I haven't read all the comments and I apologize if already addressed but my starter rope would abruptly stop when I tried to crank the blower after replacing the flywheel. It turned out the flywheel was hitting the coil, preventing me from cranking the blower. I had to access the coil in order to adjust the clearance between the flywheel magnets and the coil. I used a business card as a spacer while making the adjustment. After doing that it cranks like I imagine a new one would. I also added Loctite to the coil threads but had to quess at how much to tighten it as I don't know the torque specs.
Cousin Jaryl gave me tips that will help me repairing my Echo ES210 vacuum/leaf blower that has no spark. I could have use a impact tool with the recoil starter in place, probably damaging it. And then, not putting a rope/cord to deep in the sparkplug hole that could get caught in the intake/exhaust ports. All good stuff. Thanks for all of the great small engine videos, and intertainment. Karl
Both educational and entertaining very well done I was attacked for many years I enjoyed working on small equipment it was nice to see somebody repair one properly
I really appreciate you showing the struggle of putting that key back in there. It's always frustrating when they say "this goes here" and then cut to it being installed. You da real MVP.
I happen to fix the same leaf blower this afternoon then I saw this. Nice to know if I ever have a starting problem. All I had to do was put a handle on the rope. It runs well now. Thanks for the information.
Great video solved my no start problem as I had the same symptoms (spark, compression, fuel were all good). I filed a bit of material off of the new key and fit no problem.
I was just working on the same leaf blower. Had fuel, air, and spark. It wouldn't even start try to fire with starting fluid, but it did eventually start without it. I'm curious now if the timing just lined back up. Well, the neighbor will bring it back next time it doesn't crank, that will be the first thing I check. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. Had a customer bring in a pb255ln that wouldn't start. He put a ebay carb kit on it and torch spark plug. Adjusted the carb and was getting fire and fuel but wouldn't start. Took it apart and whoever worked on it before didn't put the Woodruff key back in so timing was off.
Excellent. VERY Informative Jaryl. Safe trip home............... I thought mainly outboards chewed out the flywheel key. Only 1 torque click needed . Done.
Great info. I searched for how to vids for no start on this PB 250. I put a carb on it thinking it was carb. But, turned out 100% this flywheel issue. SPOT ON GUYS! Thank you so much for putting this info out there. Honestly I wouldn't have figure it out. And there was no other content I found on web about it or on youtube. This got a like a subscribe from me.
Stumbled on this looking for something else. Don't own a gas blower but really enjoyed the video and skit. Even though I feel competent at many mechanical tasks, I still learned a couple of things and laughed a lot. Best use of 30 min on a hot summer day in Dallas... delaying my chores. Thanks!
Wow, you do a really nice job of laying everything out along the way so lots of people dont make the common mistakes. Fantastic job on this video which fixed my issue. thank you.
Ive been a small engine tech for the last 13 years. Im the only tech in a very high volume shop. I STILL watch your videos if im in a pinch and need some advice. Thanks a lot for all the very informative videos. 👍
If you break or loose that plastic lock for the blow tube, a couple of well places screws from the outside will hold the tube solidly in place. It aint stock, but it's a cheap and solid fix.
I have the Echo PB-255LN that I purchased on 4-12-2018 and used for light use residential. I have always used ethanol free fuel with the Echo or Amsoil full synthetic two-stroke oils. I am very picky about cleaning/maintaining my equipment and filters on everything I own. I start the blower like it says in the manual, this isn't my first rodeo, I already knew how. I started having starting issues with it towards the end of last fall 2021 and it bogging down and dieing and then taking at least 15 pulls to get it running again, in a struggleing manner. After dieing it would not start right away, I would have to let it sit for at least 15 to 30 minutes before it would struggle to start again, at least 15 pulls. I checked spark plug and it was clean but I replaced it anyways with the same NGK BPM8Y and I still had the problem. I did some online research and checked the spark arrestor but that was clean, I removed it so it would never become a problem in the future. I also checked the exhaust port and that was clean and no scoring on the piston. Took apart the carb to check but that was clean and no dirt/grime. Blower would still not fire-up without at least 15 pulls and then all same problem. I ended up using my electric blower over the winter. In March of this year 2022 I played with it again but same problem so I ordered a gasket/diaphram kit from Cutler's through Amazon. When it arrived I took apart the carb again the original gaskets and diaphram was still in pristine condition with no deteriation but I replaced it anyway. SAME PROBLEM! I then did some more research online and removed the plug for the low idle adjustment screw to play with that but that was of no help. I also removed the spark plug and it gets spark when visually checking, I don't know if it is a strong enough spark though, it does look bright and strong. I was told by a buddy that the coil could be dirty/surface rusty so I took everything apart to look inside and everything inside is imaculently clean. I did the business card gap check on the coil and it has the perfect light drag feel to it, so I didn't bother to even take off the coil yet. I called up the dealer where I bought it at since I have about 6 more months of warranty remaining but they said it would be at least a 4 to 5 week turn around. I try to fix most stuff myself since I'm capable of it and it's a half-hour drive down there for them to mess with it. Amazon has aftermarket coils for half the price as an OEM but they only last a few uses until they poop out is what the reviews have stated. It is not worth me paying about $90 for an OEM coil when the blower cost me $200. I've now come to the point where I'll just have to take it to the dealer for them to replace the coil if that is the problem and wait a month. I don't think they had the flywheel problem with the PB-255LN model and I'm not going to try to chase this problem any further. I'm taking it back to Austin Outdoor Power tomorrow and they can dick with it. I will not be buying another Echo blower again until they quit using crap parts. I'll probably end up converting to battery powered equipment since I'm sick and tired of gas powered problems and the amount of labor time I put into messing with them. I hate the price of what those batteries cost.
my cheap $100 Homelite 26cc Leaf Blower worked great for 2 hours then died. I haven't been able to get it started since. I replaced the coil. I have huge spark, 90 PSI compression, and wont start with starting fluid?? I saw this video, and took it all apart to get to the key on the shaft. but SURPRISE, thee is no KEY on this Homelite 26cc blower?? Any ideas what to do next?
Great video but I do have one constructive comment. When you are screwing into plastic, ALWAYS start the screws by hand! Apply firm pressure and turn the screw BACKWARDS until you feel the screw drop into the previously cut threads. Then turn it clockwise a couple of turns until you are sure that the threads are fully engaged. Then you can run them down with the impact if you want but tighten them by hand. If you fall to do this, the steel screws can cut new threads which rips out the old threads. Then you have a stripped hole to repair. I spent 30 years repairing cars for a living and 10 years repairing copiers and printers. I’ve dealt with a lot of plastic parts.
I have an Echo Weed Eater that is 13 years old, it has Never Failed and still using the Original Spark Plug-I have replaced the head a few years back. When this one kicks the bucket-a New Echo will be Purchased--Hopefully their Quality has not Decreased...
When I was a service tech for echo they had us reinstalling new laminated style flywheels with a different fan hub that had more surface area where it contacts the flywheel. Hey Cuzz Jaryl, I have a stihl back pack that was doing this but now I bought a NEW Walbro carb and it stil does it, starts and dies but when I put the choke on a little bit runs great fuel line is clean, and filter..mufkin is clean..cylinder looks great..What else could it be? Several other echo machines had the good aluminum flywheel. I robbed a couple from junk echo string trimmers and maybe a chainsaw??? from my junk pile to use on the blowers I've fixed. Buying new parts is something I rarely do.
Good video ,I bought a echo blower had it repaired under warranty the idiots put a new plastic flywheel back in it because they had it in stock a month later same problem needless to say I’m a commercial mower and never went back to those guys after spending 40,000 a year on new equipment.
Really good information on Echo PB-250 blower. There is a problem with mine and the engine stall after a full throttle. The primer bulb seen to be hard to pump gas in. I dismantle, cleaned the carburetor and adjusted the screw at the bottom but the problem didn't go away. Any help and appreciate in advance ?
Jaryl did a good job explaining everything, thumbs up.
Thanks!

When I was a service tech for echo they had us reinstalling new laminated style flywheels with a different fan hub that had more surface area where it contacts the flywheel. We were told install it with red lock tite and were given no torque spec either. That’s why I think echo is a big joke, this was over 6 years ago when we started replacing thousands of these flywheels and they have just now came up with a correction to the issues. By the way the true issue was either the torque spec they were using from the factory or the lack of thread locker. I have fixed many of these with the original flywheel and fan hub by just putting a dab of red locktite and a good bit of torque on the hub itself. Aluminum flywheel is not really needed

The service bulletin on the instructions was 2013
