plenty of witches are a whole different species, but the term "witch" usually means a self taught caster, its often used as an insult to sorceresses (calling them crude) and in the games 1-3 you meet those kinds of people witches: species of demon-like beings but often humans (and elves but rarely, as their race is well versed in magic), allways casters

I just wasn’t sure if Yaga, for example, is an one of a kind individual or if there are more of her kind. Or how human witches like Abigail are connected to these creature like witches. But after your explanation they don’t seem to be connected at all.
@@Philipp2968 they arent connected indeed, it was a name given to "beautiful women in the woods who do supernatural stuff" essentialy, that all got hunted down, cause of the more social ones being evil (you can appear youthful as a witch by using young sacrificed kids, illusion or flesh shaping which is quite rare and thus often not used by witches, but sorcerers) the power scaling is also different, as all casters are intelligent to some degree and magic isnt well defined. why give a powerful but easy summoning spell to other casters when it takes away the advantage from you, endangers you from the greedier ones who want to know it, and possibly shape the world too fast for your comfort? this is why "sorcerers" are often equal in power while theres a wide gap in withces. they study what was safe enough to be written down

My theory is that Rat Catcheress, Mammuna and Yaga are another set of three witcher that live somewhere else in the continent.
