It's not only plumbers, contractors in general seem to work on their own time frames and getting them to come back and change or just finish something or even getting them to call you or txt you back can be an unwanted journey in patience and FRUSTRATION! Your system is amazing. Looking forward to seeing it up and running perfectly. 👍💖👍
Whew, one step closer to being DONE. What do you think guys?! I put some of the supplies I used in the description :) Should I do a video about *how* to make a fish rack?
I’m working on setting up my very first rack and it’s so great to see you include your mistakes and problems too. So thank you for that. If anything it’s more inspiring than the “perfect” videos.
My favorite is pvc cement for fixing those types of leaks. And plumbers tape is great for bulkheads. I love seeing people do DIY projects like this. It reminds me of decades ago when we had to make everything DIY. Great projects, this will save so much time with water changes. I use to have this style auto water change in my store. First thing I did was laugh at the ball valves, they are so hard to turn. Slay qween!
I understand he was slow, he did killer work though. He even added a cleanout to the drain line. Your forethought in adding valves everywhere is great. There are often only two or three in an entire home which is wild. I have one accessible on every branch of piping in my house so that if I need to do a repair in one section I don't have to turn the water off to the entire home.
I can't wait till you have this project completed. It looks so professional 👏 😍 it will be such a huge time saver when it all ready to go. I can't wait for you breeding projects!!!
Next time you have to use threaded fittings try putting a small amount of silicone on the threads. It'll help seal it and the silicone won't bond to thw pvc so it'll still be easy to take apart in the future. They also make liquid teflon but I personally prefer using silicone
Looks fantastic Taylor! That is an ambitious set up. The plumbing that the guy did looks really great- very sorry to hear that it was a trial getting there. Almost there it seems!
You are one clever lady, what a marvellous setup! I look forward to seeing the tanks full of Betta breeding activity 😁We must be the only people in the world whose plumber comes when he says he will; the upside of living in a town with only around 2500 people.
Great job Taylor! I built a similar system in my own fish room. One of the only differences that your other viewers might like is that I installed my carbon block filter AFTER my mixing valve. That way, I only have one cartridge to change and less connections. In either case, way to go, fun stuff!
I was originally planning to do it like that! But my plumber convinced me to put them in the crawl space to save precious fish room space. Made sense to me, lol. Thank you!
@@SimplyBetta Yes, I did something similar. I put my mixing valve and water filter in my basement, where the water comes into my fishroom. All to save precious space!
That water your throwing away is amazing fior plants I pump all my water out to my garden and the plants love it I just put a bucket with a pump with a flot valve
thanks for this walkthrough. i’d like to try and build a water change system and air system on my own in the future. this is really helpful. and omg you’re too funny 😂
Love your videos so much I hope to have a fish/plant room someday instead of having them in my bedroom and I want an automatic water change system it would help so much. I had 2 betta spawns last year and one this year. Love the fish keeping hobby! I have 3 tanks right now.
im so stoked. ive been diein to buy one of your beta. i do alot of things like you do. i love beta and im also a painter that mostly dose beta paintings
Taylor, you may have already thought of this but just in case I want to warn you. Those awesome filters you've got under the house can't deal with hot water! It will ruin the sediment filter for sure and the carbon block. The work around is that the hot and cold water are mixed to the temperature of your aquarium and then pass through the filters. You may have already thought of this, or of another solution, but I still wanted to bring this to your attention. P.S. use Teflon tape on thread connections! This is used in almost every plumbing job in my country. I use it constantly when building R.O. units and when performing plumbing jobs on our water main. In any case, great video and love the project update!
Metal valves are ok on drain pipes, BUT maybe not on the water supply to tanks. Because if they have brass or copper or other metals in contact with the water, it will dissolve some of the metal into your fish tank water. That can kill fish or hurt them - so you'd have to do a lot of water analysis to make sure the metal concentration in the water is at a safe level - for whoever needs to know. For thread leaks - there is a great thing called PTFE tape. You open the joint and clean it, wrap a few turns to match the thread direction and reassemble. There are liquid joint compounds "pipe dope" that I would only use on drains. Your bulkheads - might need a careful tightening - easy with experience, or you can use a crow's foot and a torque wrench to make sure you don't crack the glass. Maybe some cardboard in the way of tools to prevent small cracks.
Wow very impressive set up! Love the water filter system. You got me thinking! I may try something similar to use for water changes on my 2 - 125g, 1 - 60g and a 29g quarantine tank. It would be nice to just drain and fill with filtered water
I did, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with threaded stuff. Maybe I need to buy a bunch of cheap threaded stuff and practice! Thanks :) wait did you change your username jakedog?
@@SimplyBetta unfortunately JakeDogg passed away 😭 early December he had some medical issues, and after needing 2 anaesthetics in a week he didn’t recover well from the second one and passed in his sleep the following day 😞 I think plastic threads are always hard to get to work well, especially if they have any pressure behind them, good luck, I’m sure u’ll have it running great in no time tho 🥰
Ok. Ok. I'm jealous now.... Love the setup and I like how you mounted the bulkhead at the bottom for that flexibility and I think you can get the water level higher in the tank vs a top mount bulkhead and end up with the top water gap.
I am taking apart my fish room as I am moving to a cabin that currently doesn't have room for my tanks. I will have to build a building to house my tanks. Your setup has me thinking about the design 🤔
you sound like my wife talking about any plumbing issue I have ever had to take care of at my home. Additionally, the metal inside the ball valves may leech in to the tank. You can probably find plastic boiler drains. I used one on my water change setup. That is more like a garden spigot type mechanism instead of a ball valve. Think about it like a baby gate valve.
Trying to replicate your automatic water change system. For the Hass Intellifaucet, what model number are you using? There is a K250 version and a K375 with 1/4 inch valve port @ 0.5 - 4.2GPM and 3/8 inch valve port @1-10GPM flow range, respectively.
