I luv her. Her podcast with her pets during covid got me thru it happily. She's on my top three country talents. She can write, sing, play numerous musical instruments and entertain as no other.
Nine years ago, I had the fortune of seeing MCC and Shawn Colvin perform live at the local theater. There was no backing band--just these two women, their guitars, and their voices. They both seemed really nice and fairly often talk between songs. It was a great concert that consisted of music from both their discographies (I remember Shawn performed “Trouble” and “Round of Blues”, which were both enjoyably upbeat), as well as some covers (the one that stood out to me was Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Only Living Boy In New York”). But the highlight of the night was unquestionably their performance of this tune. The song was my favorite of the entire set list, their teamwork on it was fantastic, and I was shocked when they kept playing afterwards, since it really felt like the perfect way to close the show. Since then, I’ve learned about encore performances and am guessing that must have been what happened. Either way, it was a truly fantastic performance in a fantastic concert that I’m honored to have expierienced.
One of my very favorite cd's to this day. I can't express strongly enough that if you like real country music you should give this whole cd a shot. Brilliant song writing.
I don't consider her music country. She was originally classified as folk/blues. She got no air time so her agent changed genre classification to Country. Country music stations are how she got air time and built a following. I never heard a country singer that her voice and music sounds similar to her. Actually she is unique and defies classification to any genre.
@@normanchadwick2817 This is 100% accurate. She happened to exist in an era when folk rock didn't really receive any recognition. It's sort-of a shame she had to go the country route but at the same time it gave her SO many silver, gold, and platinum albums I don't see it as a bad move. This song, as well as many others of hers, leans heavily toward a Fleetwood Mac sound as opposed to Reba McEntire or Shania Twain.
a timeless classic....describes what drives us each and in our relationships....MCC is one smart cookie, and can put out some serious tunes too! One of my favorite MCC tunes, but have always felt that 10,000 Miles was a song that captured the loss of the innocent after 9/11.

MCC was part of my childhood, lol. Down at the Twist and Shout, I Feel Lucky, Shut Up and Kiss Me, Passionate Kisses, He Thinks he'll keep her ... this is probably my favorite. I remember hearing it on the radio when it was new. I think it was the summer of 1993. The album was released in 1992. love that guitar in the beginning! :D
I am a veteran, and a retired cop, I went to see Mary in concert several years ago. After the initial round of applause Mary started to play her guitar and I choked up. She is such a great performer. Love her music.
Awesomeness! Every song! Live or recorded is amazing! Saw her in Stowe Vt. One of best concerts ever! Listen to her heart felt words accompanied by amazing musicians. Everyone thinks she is country but she is so much more (and from NE). Doesnt matter...incredible music!
I just found out I am losing my hearing in my right ear probably for ever on the third of june, I have followed and loved Mary as long as I could remember, any way this will be more than likely the end of my singing ,but if Mary ever reads this, you are my idol,so tonight the last night of my singing career,i will be singing your songs, and I thank you for your inspiration. your loving fan Rollanda Seattle, Wa
So sad to read of your hearing loss, but the music will never leave your soul. Keep singing - even if you're the only one listening. May God bless you.
sorry fromme too have lost some of the highs in one ear. started from going to a concert years ago, didn't know how much volumn those floor speakers put out, and as a teenager crank up the volumn than i used to work in the sound room at my church, and people woould forget a live mike next to them and i had earphones one. ouch take care God Bless
william harley I lost all my hearing in my left ear a year ago. It makes me so sad, but I hang on to that right ear and i appreciate music more than ever!
I lost the hearing in my right ear and only have about 60% left in my left ear - they said a hearing aid called a bi cross would help me but they are expensive but I'm going to try to get them..I tried them out and they were GREAT! I don't know if this would help you, ( or someone else ) but I wanted to put it out there in case it might help!

I hadn't heard this song in probably 10 years. Forgot what an incredible singer she is.
"We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make." That was what I picked for my senior quote the year I graduated from high school.
It's a good quote.
I borrowed " the knack of knowing when, and the gift of knowing how" for a wedding toast.
What an unsung poet. Love ya, Mary Chapin Carpenter
This is a Matrix Hack song
I did "show a little inspiration, show a little spark"!
One of my very favorite cd's to this day. I can't express strongly enough that if you like real country music you should give this whole cd a shot. Brilliant song writing.
This CD is a favorite driving theme. Put it in and just get away from people for 1-2 hours. .
This is the message... .❤❤❤
Always a great guitarist, lyricist, writer, vocalist! ❤️🧡💛 from Maryland, MCC!
Ms. Carpenter is perfection ! So glad I "found" her again on TH-cam tonight ..... Early 1990s memories and treasures ....
Love this song ❤
90's and earlier had the best country songs hands down!

Real substance here. No wasted motion, no unnecessary frills, just perfect. One of my favorites.

ALWAYS admired this classy lady. Wish I could see her in concert.
saw her in concert with Shawn Colvin about 6 months ago…….fabulous show
She's touring in 2022.
Still adore this with all the depth I felt the very first time I heard it!

Such an awesome song!!! Wow. What a beautiful Song sung by Mary Chapin Carpenter
Show a little inspiration, show a little spark
And show that things that drew me to you and stole my heart
And tell me something I don't know instead of everything I do
And look at me as if I mean something to you
Our hearts are beating while we sleep, but while we're wide awake
You know the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Show a little passion, baby, show a little style
And show the knack for knowing when and the gift for knowing how
And have a little trust in us when fear obscures the path
You know we got this far, darling, not by luck, but by never turning back
Some will call on destiny, but I just call on faith
That the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, to what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way
Caught up in our little lives, there's not a lot left over
I see what's missing in your eyes; you're searching for that field of clover
So show a little inspiration, show a little spark
Show the world a little light when you show it your heart
We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard (everything we got, we got the hard way)
Everything we got, we got the hard way
(Because the world won't stop) hang on, baby...
Another classic song from my childhood. She was so talented. I still love it in 2013.
And also in 2023!
I agree we have two lives. One we are given. One we make! A great truth!
So much love for the stories she sings. I feel hopeful. Thank you Mary.

This is her best song, in my opinion.
We got this far baby not by luck, but by never giving up. This is my life. ❤️
....By never turning back...
Fantástica voz y bellísimas canciones, las de ésta formidable cantautora norteamericana.
I remember Mary. In this song Mary sings and sounds just like Barbra Mandrell.
IMO, MCC is an excellent musician...she plays guitar and piano beautifully. , she writes music; and, Oh My, her voice!
❤️
