Yellow River is definitely a beautiful area of Iowa along the Mississippi River with lots of variety. It’s one of my favorite regional spots to return to.

Great video. 3/4 mile is car camping ;-) . It's nice being 'away' from the car, but close enough to run back and forth to it or the hike is short enough that you don't mind packing a heavy pack for some luxuries at camp. I like camping like that to have a basecamp and then take day hikes with a smaller pack.

Wow. I've been to the Paint Creek unit twice, but had no idea Paint Rock had those views. Thanks for the video. I was SHOCKED how nice Iowa is in that area and love it. I live 4 hours away near Chicago, which btw is one of the worst places in the country for a backpacking hobby. Trying out new places as much as I can. Lapham Peak in Kettle Moraine was my last overnight (since your from WI). I was impressed with that also. I think Paint Rock might be my next one.
You guys will absolutely love Yellow River. There is a ton of variety there between the different units. I also highly recommend Wyalusing State Park just across the river in Wisconsin. Lots of great day hikes there along the bluffs. Don’t forget Effigy Mounds National Monument right next door to Yellow River. Awesome views and history there. So much to explore!

Much appreciated! Kevin was a pretty awesome camp mate. It seemed as if the water levels were about average. We were pretty high up on the Bluffs though so I didn’t get a close-up view.

@@MiyagiontheTrail that's cool to hear - those groups have generally become too big to really be meaningful... at least in my opinion. I loved the Midwest Backpackers when it was only a few hundred people and there was a solid core of 15-20 people that got out together regularly. Would love to cross paths with you someday :)
Beautiful and I can honestly say Iowa has never been on my 'go to' list. As for the food thing, I beach camp whenever I get a chance & my first nights dinner is typically whatever is freshest (lately I've been getting lionfish) yeah those big ugly, poisonous barbed invasive things. Good eating though !
Truthfully Iowa was never on my list either. The Mississippi River Valley area is definitely not to be missed. I’ve heard that prepared properly Lion fish is delicious!

Hey Miyagi, always appreciate your production and editing! Great video! Indigo stole the show! What a good lookin pup! I could even get the kids to agree to a 3/4 mile trail...especially with such great views and a big campsite! Gosh that Hammock might actually work for myself and the kids. Rugged Mountain Mister is small enough to fit in the middle still I bet!
Much appreciated! Indy is an awesome dog for sure! 🐕 Yellow River is a super family friendly location for shorter hikes & great views! You definitely need to get the kids out there. If your kids wanna try hammocking but need to still be right there with you, the Clark double hammocks from Dutchware might just be the ticket! They are a bit on the spendy side and heavy but they do serve a purpose for certain kinds of adventures.
I was seeing reports that the Mississippi was really low this year. Did you guys experience that at all? It didn't look low in your video.
I have heard that as well. From our vantage point it did not look low, But I could very well be wrong.
