    I wore a hole in my possum fir gloves using trekking poles in less than 5 miles! I only use mine at camp. The possum socks are the warmest thing I’ve ever put on my feet short of down booties.

      Depending on which brand you get & the possum vs merino blend (some brands create some pretty thin gloves) I can totally see that happening. I’m like you Mike….they’re a perfect camp type glove when used as a stand alone glove. When layered with something more robust, it’s a different story. Thanks for commenting Mike & happy new year! Greetings from Washington state! I’ve been dealing with Raynaud’s syndrome for some years now, the game changer for me was the possum down gloves and socks, down booties for in the tent and sleeping. I got mine through Zpacks but I think you can get the gloves and socks directly from the company in New Zealand. Between that and just plain keeping my core temp up I recently went on a trip that got down to -16 C with no problems! Stay safe and have fun out there. I’m a new Sub now!

    For the past year, we have switched most of our base layers to merino wool...as much for the warmth as for the non-stinkyness factor. Given most of our hikes are not in the extreme cold, it works for us. I wonder if I pick up a possum on the side of the road and add it to the merino wool if it will make me warmer... Thanks for the great information. Keep up the good work. Congrats to the winner.

    Any thoughts or experience with the Dachstein boiled wool gloves?

    • @MiyagiontheTrail
      @MiyagiontheTrail 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dachstein Wool has become a relatively generic term that implies that the item being constructed was made by the ancient methods of felting and fulling (sometimes referred to as boiled wool) wool, and still used today, almost exclusively carried on from ancient times as a heritage and traditional method in the Dachstein region of Austria. My friend Dani makes her Peruvian Highland Wool gloves in a similar fashion, resulting in increased density of the material. Mitts made using this ancient tradition have been popular with mountaineers for centuries and are absolutely the “real deal”for seriously cold weather. They are great insulators, are wind proof, and offer a high degree of water resistance. Thanks so much for asking Ron! Happy New Year to you! Fist bumps ~ Miyagi
