It's a pity people throw out pieces with this much potential but it's good when someone like you comes along and gives it a whole new life. It looks fabulous mow.
I have a friend who had a tenant in the furnished apartment in her barn skip out and steal everything that wasn't bolted down (and a lot of what was, including the porcelain bathroom fixtures, vanity, and the kitchen sink and cabinet base) while my friend was in the hospital for a knee replacement. When my friend was trying to refurnish the apartment I began to notice that some of my neighbors (I live in a major city, about sixty miles from my friend's farm) were clearing out their houses in preparation to move. There were a lot of nice pieces, tables, chairs, and I'd call my friend, "Hey, could you use... Do you need...well there' these pieces with 'FREE' signs....." The absolute top score was a four-piece leather sectional corner sofa that appeared never to have been used. The neighbors were very nice and helpful with loading the pieces into my compact pick-up and on a couple of occasions, friends would ride out and help with unloading. I found a couple of usable pieces at a local architectural salvage warehouse but the major appliances have been elusive. The apartment is almost furnished otherwise, needing just a couple of things to make it look more homey, and my friend's church has found a tenant for her.
Gorgeous! I was afraid this kind of craftsmanship was a dead art! Bless your patience, attention to fine detail, and the recognition of value in restoration, especially, with well crafted pieces….
You’re my favorite refinisher. Just completed redecorating my entire house. Without spending a fortune the house is complete. I love it. So satisfying! Thanks for sharing!
I am not a fan of painted furniture in general, but I must say you are truly a craftsman, not just a man who paints furniture. The skill you show and the care you take with the pieces of furniture is amazing. You have won me over and that was not easy to do. I am 78 and I like what I like, but you are a true craftsman. Craftsmanship is dying out in our country. You should be very proud of yourself. Not only do you rescue furniture destined for the trash, you make masterpieces out of them that I would be proud to have in my house. Wish there were more people like you in the USA today, that take pride and skill in what they do. I am proud of you!
This is very nice. I can't believe someone just put that on the curb. One man's trash is another man's treasure. The details on this piece is what really makes it. That gilding wax on the hardware and drawers was the perfect finishing touch. 🙂👍
They likely didn't intend for it to go in the trash. People will set out furniture they no longer want knowing that someone will come along and pick it up. I've done that. It's easier than Craigslist or donation.
RIGHT? I mean I hate that "orange" but even simple paint done carefully can look fine, and I've needed a dresser a few times now and wound up having to get flatpack crap that looked awful and functioned even more awful, uh, ly. And did NOT last of course! But this one if I was in need I'd have just wiped clean and straight up used. I'll make it match my gothy house later! Thrift stores and curbs, all day long: what you find will be cheap/free, probably WAY WAY better than Walmart crap, and often have some beauty to it. Yes, that's important too--beauty and order are good for mental health and/or the soul, IMO. AND you didn't reward some flatpack scam artists for their junk! I think sometimes it's "cheaper to replace later" if people are doing a huge move? Okay sure--buy used and good when you get there--but I'd be all over Nextdoor or FB or something getting a few bucks or just giving it away! HOW does it make sense to smash a working beautiful dresser to replace it with stamped out fake gross chemicals "wood"--ohhh, riiiight. PROFITS are all that matters, I forgot what planet I was on for a second, heh.
At first I couldn't really figure out the color, and thought at one point I wasn't going to like it, but wow the whole thing was gorgeous! Great fun to watch.
When I was first starting out many years ago in my own place I had very little money and furnished my home with stuff from the curb and I would do interesting paint finishes on them and turn those trashed pieces to treasures that I still have today 30 years later! Older pieces are much better built of solid wood and worth keeping and preserving if necessary. And when you put so much work in something you cherish it all the more. This is the best way of recycling and saving money! You might find you won’t need much in life if you collect older pieces like this along with interesting objects from flea markets and antique shops to dress things up. If these things are still around all these years later they will still be around many years from now. I’m tired of stuff that falls apart in 5 years and needs to be replaced. So much junk is being produced today that will be in a landfill even before we might be finished paying for it. Now if we could only get appliance makers to start manufacturing things again that last 20-25 years we might all have more money in our pockets for things in life we really enjoy! ..or even perhaps our old age?
WOW! Ordinarily, I do not like when beautiful wood pieces are painted, but you have TOTALLY changed my mind! This is spectacular! I just found this posting this afternoon and have subscribed and am about to go on a binge watch of your other videos! The finishing touches are what really make this piece stand out. Thank you for saving this piece and making me a believer of painted furniture. It gives a new life to the discards, which is wonderful!
Thanks! Also, consider that this can be stripped and refinished in the future. This piece sold to a repeat customer for their childs room. I hope that it gets 20 to 40 more years of use, painted or stripped/refinished. Our trash trucks crush furniture on the spot.
@@ThatShabbyGuy Have watched about three more of your videos on stripping and painting older, discarded pieces. Have you done a video on that Thomasville armoire and the chest of drawers you found at the thrift stores? I want to see what you did with them! Also, have you ever replaced veneers on wood pieces? I am going to search on that next! Keep up the great work!

I'm just sick with the thought of all the decent furniture that gets thrown out. Thankfully you were there to rescue it. It turned out really, really beautifully!!! Thanks "Furniture Savior". 😁
@@cindygrigg7911 I've seen BEAUTIFUL furniture at the DUMP!!! 😳 It's so sad. Thankfully, there is a store at the local dump here now that sells perfectly good items that would otherwise end up as trash. One time when I was there, I saw an entire antique set (end tables, buffet, coffee table, etc.) that was being unloaded into the store to sell. I asked one of the workers where it came from and he said they just took it out from the dump next door. Someone's grandmother had died and they just took all of her 1940s, solid wood furniture and dumped it, causing some imperfections. Can you believe it??!! I bought the end tables, refinished them (one had a gouge on top from being thrown out of the trailer), and used them for years.

I'm thankful to see that piece of furniture NOT go to a garbage dump. Use those supplies to make faux wood grain over the puttied areas. That's just me I'm OCD like that. Lol. I love creating something beautiful out of a "Not so loved" item. Whether it's painting, reupholstering or sewing an item, everything I own is pre-loved and inexpensive or abused and thrown out. I wish I could show some before and after photos of my rescues .
You did a fantastic job on that antique dresser. I love antique furniture with the fine dovetailing craftmanship, curvature detailing, and dentil molding. You breathed new life into that piece; gorgeous!!

Very nice transformation. People who oppose painting as a viable finish for older furniture need too remember that paint has been a reliable finish for furniture for centuries. Love the color you chose, and the details really work well.
Oh man, I wish I could get so lucky to find a piece of furniture like this on the street! It's gorgeous and turned out so beautiful! Really, really stunning!

That turned out beautiful!! I never would have thought about doing that glazing step. I would have just painted it and went straight to the polyurethane. That step with the gold really brought out the details on the hardware too. I'm impressed. P.S. Loved your socks too.
Beautiful job! I've done exactly the same thing with a number of pieces, years ago. Very satisfying. I'm too old now - when I moved recently, I began to furnish from scratch, via Craigslist and FB Marketplace. Only buying things of good quality that I don't have to restore.
This pieces beautiful. You pay so much attention to detail, that is very much appreciated. I'm sure your pieces don't chip and they last another 100 years. Great work, thanks
The dresser looks fantastic!!! I have a vintage/antique Hepplewhite bow front dresser very similar to this one, perhaps in slightly worse condition. We know it spent at least some of its life out in the barn before my In-Laws bought the farm in the early 1960's and moved the dresser back into the 1927 farmhouse, which is now our home. To say leaky barn storage is unkind to veneered furniture would be an understatement. I cleaned and made minimal repairs and have used the dresser for almost 10 years, mostly as it was: veneer is still loose in some places and missing in a couple of others, scratches, and a couple of deep cigarette burns from an unknown careless owner prior to being stashed in the barn. The dovetail jointed drawers and the dresser box are still very structurally sound and worth an investment of time and a little moolah. Now that my Dear Hubby and I call the old family farm home, it's time to give the dresser a face-lift and help it continue its life of service with an updated appearance in its old home. Your video is greatly appreciated, and it has inspired me to take the plunge and just get 'er done! Thank You for your detailed steps and excellent results to get me motivated!!!

Absolutely gorgeous! Wish we had those kinds of finds up here. Beaten up furniture here goes for way more than it should in the condition that it's in. That colour and glazing really brings out the details.
I've been watching a lot of these furniture rehab videos lately and this piece is one of my favorites. One of my favorite quotes from the move Sabrina is "More isn''t always better. Sometimes more is just more". Restraint can be nice (although I get we all have different tastes) and I love the subtle touches you used that elevated the piece without taking over. Beautiful job!
Greetings from Canada. Shabby you have done an amazing job and to say the outcome is a stunning piece of furniture would be an understatement. I love the gold and grey-blue combo, it's so fresh and chic. Btw, I've been watching you for years and you just get better and better and better with each new project. Keep up the excellent work.
Your finger does the best painting job. Turned out absolutely beautiful. I cannot believe someone left this beauty at the curb. Just absolutely gorgeous. Ou are a master Re fisher. You cannot find this in the stores. Can’t get enough of your videos. Just found you yesterday. I have a really good custom made dresser that needs to be refreshed. I’ll be binge watching your videos before I start on my dresser. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
This is awesome! You did a great job on it! I’ve redone and repainted many pieces of furniture. But your spray finish is awesome! It’s so nice you can repurpose something like that you found in trash. As it appeared to be a well made piece! Loved watching this vid! 👍
It's encouraging to see the beautiful results you got from your work. I have an old grandfather clock I've been thinking of painting black - one day. Maybe I'll finally give it a try, using your smart tips.
I'm a wood person. I would have veneered the top after repairs, stripped and refinished using an oil rubbed or waxed finish. Not a fan of painted wood but good job.
Gorgeous! The green chest looks like it is from a French chateau . It is both an Honour and rewarding to watch your work both in progress and the finished products.
Glad I found your page. I love watching stuff like this; it’s settles my mind after so much overload. You did an amazing job. I wished you were in my area to refinish my old bedroom set. I got it from a thrift store almost thirty years ago and it’s still standing. Just needs to be refreshed but the workmanship is A-1-A
My mother started me on "recycling" when I was thirteen years old. We went to used furniture stores (now antique shops), thrift stores, curb pick-ups, dumpster diving, and everything in between. I learned from her how to do all of these things and, not only did we end up with some stunning keepers, but I also have furnished houses with some real gems as well. My daughter is now learning the same things. With time, products have become better with greater availability and far more options, from simple paint to decoupage and techniques for some great outcomes. It's a fun hobby as well. Nice outcome on this dresser!
You did an amazing job! I really like this piece, especially the color and the special touches you gave it (the gold finish really made it pop, plus the staining technique). Really beautiful 😍
Wow, this is gorgeous! You are such a good artist. I love the colors and finish. I just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you for sharing how you refinished this piece and your thoughts during the process. I have never refinished a piece of furniture but this is certainly motivating.

Wow! Fantastic transformation! You are so talented!
Probably the most valuable and worthwhile DIY video I’ve seen on the subject.
Thanks for the kind words. Have a great one!
Beautiful ❣️ You have a lot of patience
It turned out beautiful! Great job.
Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! One of these days I want to do a video where I paint a dresser with only my finger lol
Wow, that’s beautiful! Love the color and the gold trim just sets it off perfectly!
This is awesome! You did a great job on it! I’ve redone and repainted many pieces of furniture. But your spray finish is awesome! It’s so nice you can repurpose something like that you found in trash. As it appeared to be a well made piece! Loved watching this vid! 👍
Gorgeous work and that hardware is amazing!!
Absolutely gorgeous! What an amazing transformation and new life breathed into a beautiful piece of furniture! Love it and well done!
Looks great! Even the hardware! Attention-to-detail is excellent at selling.
Thanks for the tips! Wonderful job! I would love to find a beautiful piece like that.
So beautiful with the gold!!
It's encouraging to see the beautiful results you got from your work. I have an old grandfather clock I've been thinking of painting black - one day. Maybe I'll finally give it a try, using your smart tips.
That'll be gorgeous!! Please do it. You'll love it and others will too.
I'm a wood person. I would have veneered the top after repairs, stripped and refinished using an oil rubbed or waxed finish. Not a fan of painted wood but good job.
I love that gold-enhanced dentil molding. Beautiful. I never find stuff like that on the side of the road!
What an artist you are. Makes me rethink the finish on my old Mahogany Bedroom set. Thank you for sharing this art.
Beautiful!! Great job with refurbished piece of furniture. I love the color you used.
Gorgeous!
The green chest looks like it is from a French chateau .
It is both an Honour and rewarding to watch your work both in progress and the finished products.
Very nice piece of furniture. Yes, this is a good form of preservation, as well as renewal. Too easy for some just to continually buy new.
This is a master class on renovation. You have skills. I love everything you did to this piece.
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
I'm watching this video again!
Nice outcome on this dresser!
absolutely stunning, great job!
Like many have already said, this piece is gorgeous! Well done.
Thank you very much!
You did an amazing job! I really like this piece, especially the color and the special touches you gave it (the gold finish really made it pop, plus the staining technique). Really beautiful 😍
Totally awesome! Old is new again and I love the details it had already and draw pulls.
Well done. I don't love painting wood, but sometimes it is only option. It looks beautiful and you do wonderful work!!
Stunning ! You did a beautiful job .
Not bad for a lefty.
Wow, this is gorgeous! You are such a good artist. I love the colors and finish. I just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you for sharing how you refinished this piece and your thoughts during the process. I have never refinished a piece of furniture but this is certainly motivating.
Thanks a bunch for subscribing. Welcome!
That piece turned out beautiful!!
You are very talented restoring curb finds to painted gems.
And dude-your socks are awesome. ☮️💟
The dresser came out beautiful. You are so talented and sure have lots of patience. Loved seeing the finished result.
This was awesome, its one thing to notice a good piece of furniture on the curb, but another to know what to do with it. You' made it look easy too! Thx for sharing.
