It's my favorite relationship in Marvel. And I agree, the way he's going about handling his grief is upsetting and it would absolutely be great if he'd just talk to Jean. I think the issue is that it's clear Jean is also going through her own trauma. They both are not capable of being what the other needs right now, even if they want to be and there's a real gritty reality to that. Cyclops is my favorite X-Men character (almost my favorite Marvel character) and to see him making mistakes that I wish he wouldn't kind of only humanizes the guy to me more. I like what you said about how he should just stop avoiding her and end it because we're sitting on the sidelines watching them fall apart and we want them to help end the other's pain. But Scott and Jean are like... THE couple in Marvel. The almost endless love they have for each other gets them through the types of things that no other relationship could survive. I'm being super sappy, and I honestly am not a big soap opera/relationship drama fan. But this show captures what makes their relationship so compelling. Also, I've watched a few reactions to this episode (the Gambit stuff mostly) and your almost primal scream when Gambit was pierced broke me pretty good. And yeah Scott hiding it and getting defensive and throwing the blame was also very bad. The thing is we don’t know if the original Jean was the first wife, we don’t even know if the original Jean was the phoenix, Madeline/Jean said there’s no way to tell when the switch happen, so I can see how it can be hard to choose between one over the other when they’re the exact same and have the same memories how can you just choose between one when you don’t know which one you’ve been spending past couple of years with, again him sneaking around about it is definitely bad, but the situation is just generally messy no matter who he picked and wouldn’t really be fair to either Jean’s because they both feel the same and have the same memories. And this is why we had the Jubilee/Mojo Video Game segment last time. All the trauma and horror of the first three, the tragedy of Storm/Forge, and now The Fall of Genosha? We needed a breather mini-episode.
The Mojo episode was for the og watchers that touched on a lot of nostalgia. The 16 bit Genisis console, the sounds, and the old X-Men video game stage with Magneto in it. You wouldn't understand that but this episode 5 literally made me cry a bit and it's been decades.
yeah I loved episode 4, so much nostalgia. I already knew this was coming even though I love the nostalgia because it was pretty clear in episode 4 they were saying "here's the 90's, get ready -- shit about to get real" through the characters
Yeah, I didn't understand the complaint about "the message" of the episode being leaving the original series behind. The message was much more universal than that. It reminded me of the themes of moving on, learning to live in the moment, and accepting who you are today in Extraordinary season 2.
The writer said it’s supposed to be like how he felt around 9/11. Pre-9/11 it felt like things were getting better. When you look back, it’s a very nostalgic time period for people of his and my age range. Then the ending of episode 5 is 9/11.

Yeah the writer/show runner Beau DeMayo broke his radio silence to talk about episode 5. Stating that it was the centerpiece of his pitch for the series back in November of 2020. He said that the X-Men journey in this show was to mirror our own as we grew up from being kids to adults and realizing how unsafe the world is now. So in hindsight, episode 4 was a lesson in the need to grow up and change on our own. With episode 5 hitting us with life happening when we least expect it and forcing you to change. Now I'm curious to see how everyone moves forward now that we have four more episodes and there's no telling when season two or three will drop.
Personally this episode felt like someone at marvel heard people talking about how “ inVincIblE iS ThE mArVeL KillEr” sat down watched everything read a couple issues of the comic and said Ya ok I can play this game

This show is now on the level of Game of Thrones in terms of drama and shocking moments. This animated cartoon just had one of the most amazing emotional episodes of anything Marvel had done in a decades. Gambit has always been a loose cannon, someone who struggled to be more then a swamp rat. He isnt as poweful as most of the team, he gets passed over a bunch in the comics. This end for his character is just perfect. If you have to die, do it to save as many people as you can... ...with style petit, with style 😢.

This episode was beginning to end perfection. Great pacing, writing, voice acting, animation, fight scenes, and a devastating gut punch at the end. The problem with Scott's situation is that it's just too far divorced from the real world. What's happening to him can't happen in real life. Scott was married to Madelyn and had his son with her. For all intents and purposes, she was Jean. Extremely hard to say, sorry that wasn't Jean. Ignore that woman.
We don’t actually know when the switch happened though, it’s very likely he actually did marry Jean And what’s happening to Jean is also too far divorced from the real world, she has a major case of imposter syndrome and on top of it the man she loves might’ve replaced her in his heart with a literal clone made to replace her. And now he’s also going behind her back with said clone
He also feels he abandoned Nathan. Even if it was to save him. In his mind he did abandon him. He had his own daddy issues with Corsair and now it’s repeating. Jean/Madelyn stuff aside that is traumatic on it’s own.
When they mentioned genosha and magento being in charge in episode 2 i thought of "why do i get a feeling the genosha massacre is gonna happen?" And i knew it.

In the storyline this Jean/Maddalyn relationship is based on Cyclops was written to be a kind of a pos since he abandoned his wife and child without a second thought when the original Jean returned. At least in this story they're making it a complicated situation with no easy decision.
Is it cheating if he doesn't even know if him and the real jean were even on a relationship? So far jean hasn't pinpointed whose memories are whose or when the switch happened and if her memories have been messed with and gained some of Madeline's new memories not to mention jean and Madeline are the same person just twice he loves them both how could he not they're jean grey

The green happy little fella is called Leech, he can turn off all the abilities of everyone near him, he probably turned off Magneto's powers so the Master Mold could not read him anymore and thought it eliminated him when it did not. But here is the saddest part; if Gambit was still alive and with the help of Leech he could've temporarily turned off Rogue's powers so she can finally be able to touch Remy 😢
I'm not sure how they can top this episode. It's a hard hitting episode with superb writing and then they hit us hard with Remy and Erik going out the way they did. This is what we need Cable for.
Lady I had the same genuine reaction you had to this. The “I can’t feel you”, now with a completely different meaning because touching isn’t always feeling was spot on.
The storyline of the genosha genocide was called “E for Extinction” and came out in 2000 I believe. From that era and on, xmen is so dope in comics. I wanted them to adapt the storyline but figured they wouldn’t have the balls to do it, and they proved me wrong. In the comic version, I think 16 million mutants died that day, and it was another person who caused it. Cassandra Nova. Now I’m wondering how much further in comics are they willing to go now.

I've seen several reactions to this episode, and by far, yours has been the best. Most of them try to make light of what happened, joke, and not show emotion. You captivated me with your reactions. From Gambit & Rogue's conversation, his last action as a hero, to Rogue's final line. You broke me when you screamed "Cable you better fix this," since we know he's been trying to prevent it and failing. This episode hit hard for a lot of us Gambit and Rogue fans. It’s really kind of pointless to have any real hopes for Jean and Scott to full separate. So at this point there’s no real point for wanting anything different.

I feel like you were a lot harsher on Scott than Jean. He at least has the excuse of them literally bing the same woman, so he can't help but love them both. She has none with Logan other than she loves another man. It's a complicated situation with twisted emotions on both sides. Complete opposite. First Rogue and Gambit were never in a relationship, so no cheating. Secondly both Rogue and Gambit were far more mature than either Scott or Jean because they were honest with each other. Despite both being emotional and confused or hurt they managed to talk it out and come to a reasonable, open and honest conclusion, even if it was not one that was entirely satisfactory to either of them. Yes, Rogue's actions hurt Gambit, but when someone cares about you and wants something you can't give them it is inevitable that you will hurt them. You can't avoid it, but you can treat them with respect - which is what she did by going to talk to him.

Of course, but that's what this kind of drama is for. Another way of looking at it is, say I've had to choose to let down someone who is into me because I've just started a new relationship. We're all out somewhere together, because social groups work like that... Should I have to pretend to not be with my new partner? Is it somehow owed to the hurt party? Love your emotional journey through this episode... I'm an adult and tearing up every time watching this ANIMATED show. The writing is phenomenal.

This you cannot have a 10/10 episode for each one and still gave episode 4 an 8/10 it was more for the OG fans.

The Mojo episode was for the og watchers that touched on a lot of nostalgia. The 16 bit Genisis console, the sounds, and the old X-Men video game stage with Magneto in it. You wouldn't understand that but this episode 5 literally made me cry a bit and it's been decades.
yeah I loved episode 4, so much nostalgia. I already knew this was coming even though I love the nostalgia because it was pretty clear in episode 4 they were saying "here's the 90's, get ready -- shit about to get real" through the characters
Yeah, I didn't understand the complaint about "the message" of the episode being leaving the original series behind. The message was much more universal than that. It reminded me of the themes of moving on, learning to live in the moment, and accepting who you are today in Extraordinary season 2.
The writer said it’s supposed to be like how he felt around 9/11. Pre-9/11 it felt like things were getting better. When you look back, it’s a very nostalgic time period for people of his and my age range. Then the ending of episode 5 is 9/11.

Yeah the writer/show runner Beau DeMayo broke his radio silence to talk about episode 5. Stating that it was the centerpiece of his pitch for the series back in November of 2020. He said that the X-Men journey in this show was to mirror our own as we grew up from being kids to adults and realizing how unsafe the world is now. So in hindsight, episode 4 was a lesson in the need to grow up and change on our own. With episode 5 hitting us with life happening when we least expect it and forcing you to change. Now I'm curious to see how everyone moves forward now that we have four more episodes and there's no telling when season two or three will drop.

Gambit has always been a loose cannon, someone who struggled to be more then a swamp rat. He isnt as poweful as most of the team, he gets passed over a bunch in the comics. This end for his character is just perfect. If you have to die, do it to save as many people as you can...

In the comics, after the events of the attack in Genosha, Apocalypse resurrects Gambit and turns him into one of his 4 Horsemen.
I thought it was after M-day and gambit willingly joined apocalypse, and he was turned into a horseman along with Polaris and sunfire.
This episode was beginning to end perfection. Great pacing, writing, voice acting, animation, fight scenes, and a devastating gut punch at the end. Ngl, I teared up for our Ragin' Cajun 😭💔 I gotta think with Cable in the mix that there's a way to reverse this massacre cuz I can't see my girl Rogue like this.

The problem with Scott's situation is that it's just too far divorced from the real world. What's happening to him can't happen in real life. Scott was married to Madelyn and had his son with her. For all intents and purposes, she was Jean. Extremely hard to say, sorry that wasn't Jean. Ignore that woman.

In the storyline this Jean/Maddalyn relationship is based on Cyclops was written to be a kind of a pos since he abandoned his wife and child without a second thought when the original Jean returned. At least in this story they're making it a complicated situation with no easy decision.

The green happy little fella is called Leech, he can turn off all the abilities of everyone near him, he probably turned off Magneto's powers so the Master Mold could not read him anymore and thought it eliminated him when it did not.
But here is the saddest part; if Gambit was still alive and with the help of Leech he could've temporarily turned off Rogue's powers so she can finally be able to touch Remy 😢

The storyline of the genosha genocide was called “E for Extinction” and came out in 2000 I believe. From that era and on, xmen is so dope in comics. I wanted them to adapt the storyline but figured they wouldn’t have the balls to do it, and they proved me wrong. In the comic version, I think 16 million mutants died that day, and it was another person who caused it. Cassandra Nova. Now I’m wondering how much further in comics are they willing to go now.

From Gambit & Rogue's conversation, his last action as a hero, to Rogue's final line. You broke me when you screamed "Cable you better fix this," since we know he's been trying to prevent it and failing.

The thing is while I eat up this relationship drama like junk food. It’s really kind of pointless to have any real hopes for Jean and Scott to full separate. I’ve heard it all from the comics and no matter what happens, no matter how many times this girl dies it always comes back to Scott and Jean, call it true love call it toxic for Marvel there’s practically no difference. So at this point there’s no real point for wanting anything different.

I feel like you were a lot harsher on Scott than Jean. He at least has the excuse of them literally bing the same woman, so he can't help but love them both. She has none with Logan other than she loves another man.
It's a complicated situation with twisted emotions on both sides. Jean has issues trusting her own memory, so she gravitates to the one thing she knows she feels is real, Logan and his love for her. Scott knows for a fact that he has a connection with Madalyn, but he can never know for sure when the switch happened and doesn't know for sure who he fell in love with. Not to mention he had to give up his only son a day after he was born.
You didn’t like the Mojo part of episode four, but he was on something with his Divorce Court: Summers vs. Grey TV show.

She didn't really cheat tho. They had a discussion beforehand discussing that they were never exclusive and they also agreed to be just friends. I do agree that it was insensitive though :(
Complete opposite. First Rogue and Gambit were never in a relationship, so no cheating. Secondly both Rogue and Gambit were far more mature than either Scott or Jean because they were honest with each other.
Despite both being emotional and confused or hurt they managed to talk it out and come to a reasonable, open and honest conclusion, even if it was not one that was entirely satisfactory to either of them.
Yes, Rogue's actions hurt Gambit, but when someone cares about you and wants something you can't give them it is inevitable that you will hurt them. You can't avoid it, but you can treat them with respect - which is what she did by going to talk to him.

Another way of looking at it is, say I've had to choose to let down someone who is into me because I've just started a new relationship. We're all out somewhere together, because social groups work like that... Should I have to pretend to not be with my new partner? Is it somehow owed to the hurt party? No, the world doesn't work like that.
I think people look at this otherwise because we're so used to Gambit and Rogue as a couple, but they've never actually been that in the cartoon.
