  • KTM 390 Adventure | Will a cheap slip on be better, or worse than the stock exhaust? I wanted to try a new exhaust, but I was not looking forward to spending $400 to $600 dollars. So, I found a discount option. - Frank

    Looking into acquiring a 390! Nice bike, thanks for taking the time to share with us!

      Hello AB, I hope you enjoy the bike. It has a lot to offer. And at its lower-than-average retail price, it's easier to justify some farkles. - Frank

      Hello AB, I was surprised at how much I like the sound. It's only a 373cc single, nothing is going to make it sound GREAT, but I am more than satisfied with how much better it sounds than the stock pipe. - Frank

    Yeah, I agree. The nuts and bolts are a soft. A 3dB increase is a doubling in sound, but it takes more like 10dB for our ears to to think its doubled. So you new pipe is almost twice as loud, but it doesn't sound like it....if that makes sense.

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Damian, The sound is noticeably increased when behind the bike, but even doubled, its a quite bike. I would say that none of the Ali / ebay pipes would make he bike seem LOUD, unless it was a straight pipe. - Frank

    I had a Vitpilen 401. Installed cat delete pipe and kept stock muffler. Way louder, way lighter. Track use of course 😜

      Hello Pork Chop, I bet its loud! I bought a mid-pipe delete pipe. But once I heard a 390 with it replaced, it was louder than I wanted for a daily rider! - Frank

    Hey I tried an slip on exhaust called Barrel exhaust rogue(costs about 200$ here in India) . Sounds pretty stock with Db killer but louder with more bass without Db killer..
    Quick question, didn’t my installation I didn’t notice any gasket which you installed from the bend pipe to the catalytic converter.. Will that make any difference? I don’t see any difference as such

    The Akrapovic slip on Exhaust is an excellent addition to the KTM 390 Adventure. It's lighter, and it looks fantastic on the Motorcycle 🤙 I am shocked at how little you paid for that exhaust. Question is? Is it an authentic Akrapovic? Probably not for that price! But it looks great on your motorcycle. Curious how it performs!

    • @OneOldManRiding

      Hello, it's a knock off. It did not have Akro on the Pic when I ordered, but came with it. I ran it for almost two years, I was very satisfied. Then I put on a full Dominator system. - Frank

    Would have been better off replacing the resonator chamber with a link pipe and either keeping stock muffler or putting that slip on back on

    It is ok to use copy exhaust from china ? Will it effect the engine in long term use ?

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jigmet, folks have been using the inexpensive Chinese exhausts for Maazon or eBay for many years. I expect there is no harm, it's just an exhaust. Mine has been on low for 7K miles or so. All good! Thank you for watching and commenting! - Frank

    What about performance? Any different?

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello Andy, not that I could notice. There is not a lot of HP being out out by the engine. The actual Airflow is not restricted by the pipe much, more by the cats in the header. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. - Frank

  • @TheRolfano
    @TheRolfano ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why would you call that an investment? If you wanted to improve performance why not eliminate the resonator which weighs like 10 pounds and keep the stock exhaust?

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, I had heard a bike with the resonator removed. It IMHO did not make the bike sound better, it only made it sound louder. So swapping to a slip on was my choice. I spent a small amount of money and achieved two goals. I like the sound better, and I like the looks better. Win for me 😊
      Lots of folks remove the resonator and the cats and are happy with the result. Heck I may someday, but this met my desires at the time. - Frank

    I see you have a money problem (as in too much of it) 🤣! I’ve thought about changing the exhaust on my VStrom, but the motivation is for weight savings. Supposedly I could save 10 pounds depending on the slip-on. I just haven’t got to the point that I want to make the change (spend the money). Nice how-to video.

      Hello V Track, I do have a spending problem indeed. Fortunately the bike was inexpensive. I saw a guy buy a cup holder for his GS that cost almost as much as this exhaust! - Frank

    First of all ... I'm confused. If you ask my wife, that is an all too common state of mind for me.
    Anywho ... this Acapopovichwhatever is from _Jinna_ and was ~$85???
    There is a _real_ Akrapopa-dingy from Slovenia, right?
    If so, would a real Akrapovič , model for $300 - $850 sound and fit better? I looked at the Akrapovič site, hence the proper spelling, and found that there seemed to be no pipe specifically for the 390Adv. Did the one you bought profess to fit the KTM? I mean it does obviously, but was it spec'd for it?
    I'd love a new boutique, look at me, exhaust system for my 390, but although the sound and look is just a weeeeeeeeee bit better, I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars for what you get.
    Now ... just for me ... take out the _decibel killer_ and let me hear it. I'm sure you can stuff it back in. Worse comes to worse, put the old one back on. ;)
    Well, if you read this long, thanks, I really appreciate it.
    Take care,
    S

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello S, It did indeed claim to fit the 390, and sure enough it fit very well. The only downside is I picked one without a head shield on the pipe between the pre-muffler and the exhaust. I recently melted my riding pants a bit.
      The sound without the DB killer is noticeably louder, but not too bad. Its a small engine and does not really make much noise unless you pull that pre-muffler. - Frank

      @@OneOldManRiding Even though I'm like to give the owner a good slap for his cheek, and his back up is woeful, a Lextek VP1 is just made for that bike(longer,keeps the shit/water out of it), Coober front pipe(not dented underneath from the factory), and a custom link pipe(my mate's company, as used by Triumph Glasgow), and you have one good looking performance exhaust system ,for a fraction of an Akra...I've done over 10k with stainless Lextek without issue!

      @@OneOldManRiding Problem is it really doesn't. Human hearing is too subjective and volume controls mean I'm not there to really judge, I'm controlling the final output with my playback volume. I don't have a dog in this fight, but he's right about phone app accuracy.
